I was the TFO (tactical flight officer) in our aviation unit in Fresno Ca. for 10 years. It was the coolest job ever. I controlled the search light, our infra red camera (FLIR), radio system, moving GPS map and police computer. It was a multi-tasked job and kept us busy day and night. Some people handled the fly along well, but some passengers would feel a little sick when we began to turn circles (orbits) on calls. We always carried sick bags which sometimes came in handy for citizens on flights.
Awesome video! just started learning to fly helicopters, flew the Robinson R22 last weekend! So much more freedom than a fixed wing bird but a lot more difficult to fly. Props to the pilots who fly the police helicopters keeping us safe everyday.
+Fight to Fly Photography Though as an aviation photographer with my local helicopter SAR unit, seeing that camera un-tethered does make me a bit nervous. :-p
I've been lucky to go on some lessons in a heli. Where they turn off engine and float Down. Also flown from England to amsterdam on a Robinson 44. Lastly Lear jet to Le Mans from England. Pilots are up there with the cool jobs list!! 👍🏼
Now that is the type of Pilot I would feel comfortable with in flying anywhere. He is unflappable, kewl, calm and professional. His Co-ee is equally as impressive bringing his professional set of skills aboard making them I would say a very effective aerial cop unit.
This video makes me cry every time I see it. When I was in the police explorers, I was a "victim" in a simulated plane crash and got to be flown to the hospital in a US Coast Guard helicopter. It was on that day that I fell in love - with flying in a helicopter. My dad was a fighter pilot, so maybe it's in my blood a bit. Because of multiple traumas, I never made it as a police officer, so then I got my EMT license and was studying to become a flight paramedic on our then called "Life Flight" helicopter. Life makes it's own plans though, and I had a bad back injury and couldn't walk for months, and a neck injury from a car accident (not my fault). I can walk now but now I'm older and retired. I have it on my bucket list to do a police fly along one day. I've done all kinds of police ride alongs, but not a fly along! I know it's never going to happen, unless I win the lotto and suck up to the chief, but I can at least dream - and drool every time I see this video.

Reminds me of some amazing experiences I had on helicopters. South England to Amsterdam, ride along on lessons and various trips around south England to restaurants and golf clubs. Booking lunch and asking to land in their grounds, slightly Emma but pretty cool when you turn up 👍🏼
Excellent video. Keep up the great job. Love the multiple views. Kudos to Gainesville PD. And be sure to keep an eye out for Chris Hancox and mathiastheok1 (see below) and land on them if spotted.
As a future helicopter pilot, this is a very interesting and exciting video. It really inspires me to continue to follow my dream. The only thing that scares me is the radio, so many codes and you really only get to hear something said once. The day I took my first intro flight, the instructor literally mumbled in the radio to the tower but somehow they actually understood while I was dumbfounded :/ I hope I get the hang of it :)
+Peace Ninja You'll get it, don't worry. And you absolutely can hear it again, all you have to say is "_________ (who your talking to) say again, please?" , also if you just tell them that you are "unfamiliar" they will help you out. A step beyond that is literally tell them that you are a "student pilot" and they will give you lots more help. Look up progressive taxi too, it's something you could request at a big airport if you were kinda lost. However you should also learn to always be prepared with a airport taxi diagram as well. Good luck in your flight training and try not to stress out about it.
Alden9420 Hey thanx for the tips, I'll be practicing my radio communications shortly. I've been looking into radio comms courses online and heard about "progressive taxi". Meanwhile, I guess i'll just talk to strangers on the phone to get a feel on different accents lol
Elwood: "What do you want for some lunch? I want some dry toast"; Jake: "I am going to have some fried chicken" :D. (Blue Brothers) Awesome Video! Thanks for making it. Cool job.
What a fantastic video..multiple likes ..being a military version of the 206 it sounds like either the transmission or engine or both rev differently to your typical jetranger, just wondering if this is because being a military machine it has different gearing for higher loads ?
Great video, thanks for posting! I could totally see this "taking off" and turning into a reality tv show with you two. You have the equipment to do it--would be great PR for the Dept.
Cool thanks for sharing. I see HCSO flying orbits at least twice a day... See it so often I can even tell a diff pilot is at the stick lol... Some fly more aggressive than others..
Nah you wouldn’t want to do that, you want to be able to get out quickly if it catches on fire. I do the same thing in the king air I fly, I don’t strap in until both engines are running and stable.
Loved the video! Great to see how this all goes. It's a great way to promote the service. While I wholeheartedly support the police and the job you do to keep us safe, civil asset forfeiture has been terribly abused by a few departments. It was a good idea, and clearly you all have put the funds to proper use. Sadly it has been turned into a cash grab by several departments, and so much more than taking the assets of drug related criminals. One DA has tried and succeeded in keeping the Land Rover of a citizen who was never charged let alone convicted. It was kept from him for 7 years. State supreme court ruled in the owners favor not once but twice. He finally got it back, and now the state is suing again. And he was never charged. Assets taken from convicted felons as part of their sentence, I am 100% for it. But going to buy a car with cash, being pulled over for speeding and having the $5k confiscated as "proceeds of the crime" is very hard to justify. I know you guys would never do anything like that, but civil asset forfeiture as it stands today is unconstitutional, and needs to be fixed to do what it originally was intended to do. Thanks again for a great video!
Why does it seem so sketchy two brave souls !! God bless you two on all you’re flights thank all officers in our country for their service !!! Sad what America is turning into media spreading hate towards are police departments ;( Jesus help us !!
What should happen is this. Police cars fitted with a drone to roof. Police see criminal and red box appears on them on the police cars screen. Then police click follow and drone takes off. Follows them.

Your banter made this video a lot of fun. Thanks guys.

How’s your career going? Random question just curious 🤣
Great work! And THANK YOU for keeping the startup procedures and everything!

I LOVE IT! Great job guys. You make this retired deputy proud.
As a pilot, I really enjoyed this video.
Cliff H i would love to learn to fly a helicopter it's a goal that I'm going to seek in the near future
Ryan A well, over 2 years later, did you do it?

GPD rocks, you guys are awesome, thanks for being there! Fly safe!!
I'm not a pilot but I enjoy these, I love the RUSH shout-out. I've been a huge fan since the beginning. Stay safe 🙏

A big thank you to all police for the excellent job they do.
Absolutely love the sense of humor in this video. Good job guys.
Thank you for the ride-along! Very informative!!
I had no idea police helicopters had MDC's in them. Sweet sweet video
as a fixed-wing PPL, I enjoyed that thank you and will share it on my channel.

Amazing, professional and well done!! Super interesting
Hi from New Zealand, Awesome video guys, really enjoyed this.
This was so cool! I would love to see the night version of this in 2020!!
Shout out to The Donald! Thank you for taking the job and doing so well! We sorely need you!
Great video, very good job editing with the split screens.
Looks like a Great Fly Along Ride

Hello From Anchorage Alaska,
and Thank you for the Flight it Was Awsome 🚁 🙏
Awesome Video - Thanks so much for posting !! Fly Safe !!
2 minutes in, already looks cool
Dang, a multimillion dollar operation and the first call is a dude that’s stole a bike? Wow, I’m definitely loving the dedication.
Thanks for the awsome and intresting ride hugs from kristoffer in sweden

Just wondering where Justin got his flight training? Military

Stan Knight holy shit it's the blues brothers 😄👍🏼
Came to see if they flew over Benhill

That’s a bad ass helmet. I’m gonna start wearing one of those while riding my ZX14.
Ah the 1956 Putney-Creech Super Jet Trooper. Fine machine. The PIC is not armed?
very cool!!! Thank you for all that you do!
Police depart wiping around in a old school 1970 helicopter.
Now that's gangsta.
I wish our department had an air unit. We really need one but it's not in the budget for a metro county!
That guy on the bike must've been infuriated, no way he expected a helicopter to track him lmao
Awesome video.
the two of them are funny as hell
At 8:15 I swore he said "eat your penis." I laughed pretty hard. I now understand it's peanuts.
Best job ever. Its not really a job its a hobby
I really need one of those cool grainy filter devices they "implement" for the pilots.
Cool love how you show everything
Thanks for posting and sharing the video it was great but damn that thing small looks like you're hanging out
where's the doors and a/c.Gainesville Florida temperature 33 degrees Celsius
I probably flew that same helicopter. The "C" had very good power.
How many hours on average would a position like this require?
I think most law enforcement are ex military so you need to be very experience I imagine
I really enjoyed it.
Cool thanks for sharing. I see HCSO flying orbits at least twice a day... See it so often I can even tell a diff pilot is at the stick lol... Some fly more aggressive than others..
When the second officer came to the helicopter...that one line Tom Cruise said in the movie American Made came to mind... Anyone else seen that movie?
Great video!! Thank you
You're both on top.
What! they have fly alongs? wow that's cool
thanks we will love it officer
So, how long do you need to be a patrolman before getting this assignment?
Usually depending on agency anywhere from 2-4 years
Everything is better with RUSH!!!
question. do your pilots get regular patrol cars for regular duty similar to how motor officers get cars during the winter instead of their bikes?
I would strongly recommend belting in B4 Start up.
Nah you wouldn’t want to do that, you want to be able to get out quickly if it catches on fire. I do the same thing in the king air I fly, I don’t strap in until both engines are running and stable.
On really cold days/nights, do you ever turn that big black fan above yer heads off to get warm?
Don’t you have a flir system in the helicopter?
I curious why it looks like only one of you are wearing body armor?
thanks for the great video guys and also can you please tell me what model is that canon camera
Looks like a Canon Rebel. Probably the T5i or T6i.
Loved the video! Great to see how this all goes. It's a great way to promote the service.

At 0:20 you knew I would be here to watch this...
What does the pilot do after say, 3 hours of patrol? Refuel and goes back out or do they go on standby at the base and wait until they're needed?
Not sure why but Chris looks very familiar and I've never been to Florida.
Jeremy Dickson Grindr
Idk why I called him Chris, I meant Ben
which certifications and licenses must be obtained in order to do this for a living?
What is your training process from zero time to getting licensed?
So are you saying you can get a K-9 dog on the helicopter also and a handler
Ernest Dougherty bombs away!
Why does it seem so sketchy two brave souls !! God bless you two on all you’re flights thank all officers in our country for their service !!! Sad what America is turning into media spreading hate towards are police departments ;( Jesus help us !!
Where in the world would you put a canine unit in that chopper??
just wondering, how come the helicopter doesn't have a trim string ? unless i didn't see it
i did know they flew ex KIOWAs?
The Pilot reminds me of Deputy Dangle from Rhino 911. lol Great personality as all pilots haha.
How much extra is the fuel burn without doors?
What should happen is this. Police cars fitted with a drone to roof. Police see criminal and red box appears on them on the police cars screen. Then police click follow and drone takes off. Follows them.
Dam! Aint no room in the chopper!
Does Alachua County have an Aviation unit as well
I imagine a lot of bodybuilders live in Gainesville.
Does Gainesville ever have gun shows?
Cool outfit
how long will full tank of fuile last
Big boy!!! Your lip light is on!!!
Any openings 😁?
