I have nothing but admiration for LAPD's aero units. They fly anywhere unlike the Sheriff's aero untis. Often times, while working Malibu at night, Sheriff's aero units wouldn't respond claiming loss of horizon. I ask for LAPD and they'd come very time.
Big Swan 1. I think, this video , was GREAT!! I would to see a lot more. So keep up being, our, CiTY of ANGELS. And, GOD, BE WIT,,,H YOU, ALL. My PRAYER'S will be with you, also. ✌️😷
You guys are incredibly lucky to have an adventurous time in the helicopter in Los Angeles. What I didn't know IS that Los Angeles is so breathtaking phenomenal at dusk and extremely beautiful from the air. Wow.... ( lower jaw dropping to the floor)
A very telling scene in the last minute as the freeways reveal those leaving the city in mass as they get off from their work week. Very few entering such a dangerous city. Nice video, just thank God I don't have to live there.
come 2 Nickerson Gardens projects you hang out every day in there.yeah you probably seen us hanging out at 109th central store it's yellow and blue see you 2marrow when on your way 2 the projects. I'll be wearing alot of gold jewelry
No only one can fly, the other operate a computer an goggles an stuff to talk to ground units.. the pilot doesn't do anything but fly an the other guy tells him what to do an is in control of everything
I wonder how they choose pilot candidates in the LAPD? Is it based strictly on seniority? Does being a rated pilot already carry any weight? Can you go straight from the academy to the air unit? How many hours do the pilots get annually? I saw a county helicopter, where I live in Michigan almost clip some trees while hovering OGE at night unaided.
For the police department? Contact a department and ask if you can go on a ride along. Sound serious about it though they won't want to waste time with someone just messing around
Unless they’ve changed their methods, LAPD always has two helicopters in the air at any given time. One over the “City” (south of Mulholland) and one over the “Valley”. They generally fly about two hours at a time, and the helicopters are switched out during the course of the day.
John Smith Yes, I see them on top of Piper Tech all the time. And, to be honest, I haven’t been able to listen to LAPD much as I was living out of the city and do not have a digital radio. But, from what I DO remember, unless that’s changed, LAPD does not have all 19 air units up and running 24/7. When I used to be involved with LAPD we were told that they operate as I posted above. Didn’t think they still fly JetRangers as I haven’t seen one in use for years.
It's easier on the helicopter's engine... and it's also safer. If the engine quits with them on that kind of a takeoff... they're a LOT more likely to be able to control their emergency landing, than they would be if they went with a lower forward airspeed and a more vertical take-off profile.
David, You are correct. Although the dispatchers and officers call it an airship, in a sense it’s a slang term. An “airship” is a dirigible balloon or blimp.
This wasn't at all just a joy ride of the city. We were actually accompanying the officers on their patrol of the city. What you don't see are video of actual incidents we were assisting on as we were asked not to video these incidents. This ride along was a great tool to get a sense of what this part of being a police officer is all about. Not an easy job, even from the air.

I have nothing but the outmost respect for LAPD Officers.
I applaud the LAPD Air Support Division, the Pilots have an outstanding job and with out them the ground Units below would be blind.
for anyone who doesn't live in LA, these things are overhead _constantly_
Great video! What a ride! I love LAPD Air Support Division.

GTA VI looks good.
Best gig ever.

Nice video
Can anyone arrange a ride along with them? If so, how do I do that?
BIG. SWAN!!!!!!! IS. THERE. A. LITTLE. SWAN???????
Wow did not know they are allowed through buildings like that...
If not, does the non-rated officer know how to at least get it on the ground if something were to happen to the rated pilot?
Reminds me of gta
Are both of the air patrol officers rated pilots?
No only one can fly, the other operate a computer an goggles an stuff to talk to ground units.. the pilot doesn't do anything but fly an the other guy tells him what to do an is in control of everything

Hey can I get information on how I can get a ride along with a group or organization ? Please ASAP
For the police department? Contact a department and ask if you can go on a ride along. Sound serious about it though they won't want to waste time with someone just messing around
but what if want to take a group for example like a group of 15 people

Osmar Vela aaaaaahahahahahahaha
@@yosmarvela6134 Buy a ticket on American Airlines? It's a helicopter, not a bus...
oh dude I want to go so bad
how many helicopters there for every station?
They don't have helicopters for the stations in particular. They have a central unit in downtown L.A. that covers the whole city.
Unless they’ve changed their methods, LAPD always has two helicopters in the air at any given time. One over the “City” (south of Mulholland) and one over the “Valley”. They generally fly about two hours at a time, and the helicopters are switched out during the course of the day.
LAPD ASU operates 5 Bell 206B3 JetRangers and 14 Eurocopter AS-350B2 AStars all flying out of the Hooper Heliport.
John Smith Yes, I see them on top of Piper Tech all the time. And, to be honest, I haven’t been able to listen to LAPD much as I was living out of the city and do not have a digital radio. John Smith According to the LAPD website, there are 4 Bell JetRangers and a UH-1 “Huey” (which I’ve never seen), as well as the 14 Eurocopters.
Why do they have to perform that manuver take off and fly to the end of the heliport and turn around and then take off
That was my question also...
It's easier on the helicopter's engine... and it's also safer.

I bet they landed on that building downtown, because the dude in the grey sweater had too "pee really bad!"
VFR
Lame that you didn't record anyone talking.
Airship and helicopter, two different platforms...just saying
+David Taylor LAPD call their helicopters "airships". They have a fleet of them.
if you listen to LAPD radios the officers and dispatch will say airship
David,
You are correct. Although the dispatchers and officers call it an airship, in a sense it’s a slang term. An “airship” is a dirigible balloon or blimp.
wow.my tax dollars @ work.how much does a gallor of helo feul go for?
You don't pay taxes or if you do, it's minimal considering your grammar is that of someone without a high school degree.
@John paul May you're *
THEY OVERUSE THOSE DAM HELIPCOPTERS IN L.A
bro 🙄
Copy that Boffin Research
what a waste of tax payers money just for a ride a long joy ride...
How is it a waste if they are simply accompanying these aviation officers on their patrol of the city?
This wasn't at all just a joy ride of the city. We were actually accompanying the officers on their patrol of the city. What about that Roof Landing ?
Was there a Need for Police Services there ?
