- We went to the Oregon coast to dig for clams - purple varnish clams to be exact. We got our limit pretty quick. I want to thank Jeremy and Adeline for inviting me, I had a great time.

Greetings from northern Cali. Now you know to bring a regular long handle shovel, and not a large spoon, and a large mesh sack that oranges come in. Nice video. I love digging for all kinds of clams. Watching your vids for years. Good work.
Would one of those folding army shovels be a good medium between the trowel and a full size shovel?
PK! I moved to Oregon from Ukraine in 1988 at the age of 5. Moved to Florida in 2021 my heart is still and always will be in Oregon. Your videos keep me connected to my roots. Thank you and god bless.
Thank you. much appreciated.
Siletz bay was filthy with purple varnish clams the last time we were there many years ago. Glad to see there is still plenty of opportunity!
Thank you for a fun morning out PK!
You too. Can't wait for another trip with you guys.
I'm living vicariously through you.
I won't be able to move back to Oregon til at least next year, so im seriously missing home right now :/
TIGHT - LINES, PK 💯💯💯
I think ill take my daughter out this weekend
PK, that looks to be quite a nice adventure! Pretty cool a subscriber from Utah goes clamming!
PK don't eat the mussels. Thanks for the video.
Any update on how the RoyPow lithium battery performed for you?
Are you and the subscriber/s ok PK? I saw you posted the video and then there was the closure on shellfish from red tide, which has since widened to include all of the coastline of Oregon. You were one of the first 26 infected were you? Dang it I’m sure you’re fine as I know they post it and you’re always educated on where you go but I completely forgot to ask and now it’s been 13 days
Thank you, We are OK. This trip was before the closure. take care!
Same on this end. No issues for Adeline and I!
siletz bay there by the rocks is loaded with purple varnish
Those are ghost shrimp holes not the clam holes the clam holes are very tiny
Purple varnish are way too much work for my liking.. they are abundant everywhere, Lincoln city in the bay.. Newport over by the boat ramp they’re everywhere. I prefer gap, butters and razors way more bang for your buck. And after watching your video fully, you had a few “mud” clams, you probably didn’t realize that at first but I saw a few mud clams a lot of times people grab these clams without realizing they are full of mud because they’ve died previously..
I have had trouble getting all the sand out of purple varnish clams. Anyone got the secret?
Get some salt water in a bucket and put them in the bucket above the bottom. They will spit the sand over several hours and it will fall to the bottom. I use a crawdad trap keep them off the bottom.
Mix in a couple spoons of vinegar in the purging bucket
@@My.2.cents_ Mesh bag + shaking it every couple hours for 1.5 to 2 days seems to help them purge out all the grit. You need to 'make' fresh salt water, or be near the ocean to use fresh sea water. Water changes ever 8 hours or so keep the oxygen levels up.
