Troj and Rebecca: I would really enjoy the occasional session on how you prepare/clean and cook some of the species you catch. Spider crab compared to brown crab. How you cook mackerel, sea bass and pollock. I remember an old episode when you, Troj, cooked mackerel on the boat minutes after catching. Fresh mackerel is the best (and strangely underrated fish) when fresh, and you can't get fresher than that. Maybe for days when the weather refuses to co-operate and you have some fresh fish or crabs?
We have done a few in the past although last year we never got the chance to cook from the boat. I am still working on a few. Species videos which shows some ways to cook them but they wont be out for some time. Most people I know prefer to eat Spider crab it has a sweeter taste but its best now for a couple of months. After that I would not bother with it as the meat will get mushy and wet after breeding and shell changing.
Fab crab, younger ones are more active breeders so taking an old one won’t hurt. What’s going on with your big boat Troy? I know the weather hasn’t helped but a sitrep would be good?
Ty Troj, I was so disappointed when it kicked me out and said members only. I look so forward to seeing you and Rebecca. I don't have that many things I look forward to, but you are one of them. 😂 Mike
WOW! Great potting trip Troy & Rebecca - thanks for the video. Good haul of Spiders, a nice Lobster, and a fabulous Brown Crab! As you said, it maybe the Crab of the year! But I hope you find bigger later in the season. Stay safe & well. 🎣🎣👍👍
Hi Troj and Rebecca ... First off the addition of the underwater photography of pot hauling ect. Is really great! ... Rebecca had her biggest smile yet holding that prize brown crab ... Was wondering how old do you think? ... Also do you freeze spider crabmeat after cooking If there's any left after a meal ? Anyway was a wonderful dingy day !!!
The UA-cam Bell showed that I've been conditioned to associate a neutral stimulus (such as a bell) with a reflexive response (such as salivation). I've been inland for way to long . This is the land of beef pork and chicken - all with corn.
We carry lifejackets but don't use them. We wear flotation jackets far better for us. There is very little boat traffic and very strong tides further out. A lifejacket wont help you in cold water.
We have had the odd one disappear in the past but luckily it does not happen that often. If it ever does it usually does not take long to fine out who it is just talking to other fishermen along with all the modern tech these days.
We put back nearly all the females and most smaller legal male crabs giving them more chance to breed with a far larger gene pool every year. There are bigger crabs out deep just too deep for our small boats.
I would have let the giant go and kept the just over legal, there reason why there are so few giants, is because they get removed and eaten, so only the smaller males get to breed, losing the giant gene.
Its because all the small ones are taken that we see fewer big ones not the genes. They can grow a lot bigger than this. That's why we put the smaller legal ones back to give them a chance to grow.
Rebecca is not my wife she comes out because she wants to She prefers to pull the crab pots but does not want to drive the boat because of the minefield of rocks out there. I'm the one with the experience out there that has to keep the boat safe and anyone on it. Rebecca does what she wants to do and we work as a team that's why we get on so well and have a great laugh every day.
Would you eat or sell that whopping shanker? What would a crab like that be worth to you and what would a punter like me expect to have to pay for such a beast?
Both. Buying direct from the fisherman would always be cheaper. After a quick look they sell retail around £12 a kilo but can vary a lot. It depends on the area and crab size
The brown crab is a very powerful crab and could break bones they wont let go but are slow. The spider crab is faster but not as strong and I assume the mud crabs are very fast?
I understand. At times I would also put back very old crab lobster & fish (we did last year with a couple of huge spider crabs). The thing is people see so many small crabs in the shops they think this crab is really big and it is for us in the shallow water. But out in the deeps they can grow much bigger but its far to deep for our small boat and strong tides to be able to fish for them.
Wow! Huge crab you got there. Well done!
Wow! Big crab! Am sure enjoying your under water filming. Well done team!
Thanks
Some cracking Spider Crabs. But the Brown Crab is a monster.
What a superb crab! I like the underwater shots.
The blues are amazing on the lobsters...close up picture's would be great. Fantastic stuff 🎉
I love the underwater shots. The seabed is so interesting and varied.
Very nice crabs and lobster.

@@Trojwatermancan't wait to see a cookout@
What a stomper of a crab!I'm waiting for one like that in my pots, lol.
Great content! I absolutely loved it. Please keep making more videos!
The passion of friends, the job of finding crabs is the best job,
Thank you for sharing the information.👍

Big crabe tourteau and little mayonnaise merci pour vos vidéos
Now I'm really hungry for crab 🦀
I would have kept the big brown also. The best breeders are the younger more active.
Nice video!! Wish we had Brown Crabs in TEXAS!!

I would love to get a crab over 7,5lb as that's my PB 8lb would be good but I think I need to go very deep.
OMG! What a crab!
Very good catch ❤
Are you ever tempted to release a monster like that back?
No because I know they can get bigger ones but they are in very deep water to deep for our small boats. Also we release many smaller legal size crab.
NO!!!! LOL
You had a fantastic day . Ty for sharing. I will see if there is any way I can becom3 a member so I don't miss anything. You 2 are great. Mike
What a catch that brown crab was Trojs hope Rebecca got her spider to herself good day crab fishing 😊😊
Rebecca has crab every day now 😂
🤣🤣🤣❤️

Not sure on the age but there are bigger crabs out there but they are too deep for our boat. We tend to eat spider crab fresh while its in season.
Somewhere between 30 to 40 years old possibly older.
That's an awesome crab M8, I bet that will feed both of you.😊
We fish in west wales have only had a few spiders over the years do you get a good price and is there a good demand for them hell of a crab
The spiders are cheap we get so many we throw most back keeping only the best.
My god buddy great crab
Wow what a catch few sandwiches there 👍
What type/name of crab you are catching? The big one looks like a dungenes crab or stone crab.
The big crab is a brown crab (Cancer pagurus) The spiny ones are Spider crabs (Maja squinado)
Great show. Great find 👏 meteorite mac channel Derbyshire 🎉
No bass at the moment ? Or are they not about at the moment 🤔
We fished with the rods for the first time today and caught a good one on the first cast then a small one then we fished for other fish.
Your brown crab is called a Parton in our neck of the woods.
It's a whopper 🎉
Hi troy Rebecca wish I could join you for lunch, he he ha ha ttfn
Where is this place? Give us a clue.
South West
How long do you let them soak between checks?
Varies I prefer to leave them 2 days but sometimes I lift them within 24hr
The UA-cam Bell showed that I've been conditioned to associate a neutral stimulus (such as a bell) with a reflexive response (such as salivation). I've been inland for way to long . This is the land of beef pork and chicken - all with corn.
how old would that monster crab be. i bet his missed a few pots in his life
If they age the same as a lobster it would probably be 25+
A really great haul, well done. I hope that I'm wrong but it didn't look like you were wearing life jackets. Are you fishing commercially?
We carry lifejackets but don't use them. We wear flotation jackets far better for us. There is very little boat traffic and very strong tides further out. A lifejacket wont help you in cold water.
@@Trojwaterman Glad to hear that. I was using the term lifejacket loosely to include all safety aids. Thanks for replying, good luck.
Have you had a pinch off a spider crab?
Just once. I was not paying attention and a big one got me just for a second but enough to split the finger nail
2:48 1 of 9 not 7 of 9 are you a star trek fan Bychan e Troy
WOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Have you had pots stolen? The Fish Locker guy has?
We have had the odd one disappear in the past but luckily it does not happen that often. If it ever does it usually does not take long to fine out who it is just talking to other fishermen along with all the modern tech these days.
Where are you crabbing?
Guernsey
Holy crap that is a beast of a crab I would jump off the boat lol
Wondered if you eat red meat at all, with the amount of sea life you take
I eat almost no red meat and Rebecca eats very little. Never really liked it apart from bacon
A crab that size as you stated ‘rare’ he deserved to go back IMHO.
Rare in the shallows but you can get them in hundreds of feet of water to deep for our small boat.
You should be putting back big crabs like that... it's an ideal breeder
We put back nearly all the females and most smaller legal male crabs giving them more chance to breed with a far larger gene pool every year. There are bigger crabs out deep just too deep for our small boats.
@Trojwaterman fair enough brother :) good to hear 👍

Why would you let the woman do all the lifting whilst you're recording 😂😂 chivalry has gone to tbh 😅😅
Because its her choice. Rebecca does not want to drive the boat & navigate through the thousands of rocks in the extreme tides we have here.
How come your wife does all the work and you give the orders.
Rebecca is not my wife she comes out because she wants to She prefers to pull the crab pots but does not want to drive the boat because of the minefield of rocks out there. @@Trojwaterman Thank you.
You should have thrown that big one back Troy and keept the smaller one , he's made for breeding , sad 😭
He is only big in the shallows The big ones are normally out in deep water too deep for our boat
If you ever go to Australia don’t handle a mud crab like you handle your crabs.. you will loose a finger real fast
The brown crab is a very powerful crab and could break bones they wont let go but are slow. The spider crab is faster but not as strong and I assume the mud crabs are very fast?
I only crab fish on full moons. WHEN THERE FULL OF MEAT
Shame you kept the big crab , he was obviously an old boy that had made it that far so let him live his life out
He was big but they can grow to 15b to 20lb in much deeper water. Plus we return many smaller legal ones every year
Yeh but that’s now it works, I could argue it’s a Shame they keep the small crabs that haven’t had a chance to live… it’s a crap argument
@@Trojwatermanoh I wasn’t criticising just seemed a shame , always enjoy the posts
