Looking forward to seeing the finished window. It seems like a lot of figuring! Not to mention the stone shaping, hammering!
Noting like having an Irish pub in the neighborhood!
    Hugs from 🇨🇦

Being claustrophobic this window is the single most important part of the build I really can't wait to see finished. The shower is also high on the list but so much need your window to be a thing.

Oh Kirsty, you are AMAZING! I have watched several people opening holes in walls. Usually they have at least one other person to help and use props (scaffolding with a plate on top that goes into the wall to hold it up). It's going to be sooo good. will make your home so nice to be able to look out at your view. Your house has great stonework.

Woo Hoo! Caution when working with big stones is reasonable. Putting a big old hole in your wall is daunting! Doing one thing that scares you every day is tiring, especially for those of us who are cautious, but, I think you're getting used to it!! 😅 I can wait until you're ready and confident regarding your moves. Enjoy the challenge. I know you'll be successful. As you say, what can happen? Gravity works, stones piled on top of each other mostly stay there unless provoked. You can do this!!! Best for the coming challenge! Angela

Great job on the window, a tricky task. By the look of that glow of light coming through the hole in the window, you will need either shutters or an overhead awning for summer. Might need to throw that into the mix if the design. Another couple Life by Living made their own shutters 😮 but just attached them to the stone sides with brackets and plugs & masonry goo. Did the trick.
Anyway 👍, nothing like drinking a beer in a beer garden on a hot day! Cheers from Oz😊

The more used spelling is 'Shebeen' (Sibín being the Irish spelling) and she could call it 'Shady Jane's' (Sinead being the Irish version of the name Jane). Another name for two small pubs is 'The Wink & the Nod' (more international). She could call it 'The Wink' when it's outside in the summer and 'The Nod' when it's indoors in the winter (or vice versa)! Great progress on the stonework, both window and toolshed.

Bringing in that amazing outdoor light through it will be so worth it.
    Excited for you!
I find if I don't think too much about a project, and just get started, I end up getting less stressed.
Will you then tackle completing pointing of the inside kitchen wall window area?
I know you'll have to remove sink, stove, etc, but won't it be nice to have one area fully completed. Especially an area you use a lot.
Wall to floor shelves next to stove could help too.
    As always, rooting for you!

Overthinking things into the point of freezing is something I definitely do, but just getting going and hoping things fall into place is the best solution to that. I'd like to keep going with the plastering, but this is the base layer and I'm not confident yet in my abilities to do the final rendering just yet. All of that will happen all at once when most of the house is complete. But I'd like to get the stones covered, for sure!

    • @Meezme060

Yes, I totally get the freezing up when I think of an entire project. My husband does enough of that for both of us. I tend to just start at one corner, and go, go, go. Rendering too, can be done one wall at a time, so it doesn't become that overwhelming monster you can't face.
Best of luck. Your doing great!

Maybe you should acquire the actual window before you finalize the hole. Are you ordering a custom made sized window? If not then there are standard sized wooden framed windows at hardware stores and you need the hole to match. It could take many weeks to order the window. Framing the window out with a sill and wood around the stone must be exact size.

    • @PortugalfromScratch
      @PortugalfromScratch  3 місяці тому

I'd prefer that but I've been looking and can't find anything I like. Plus, until now, I haven't known the window size I'd need. But I agree that would be much easier and cheaper. I might have one final look around the shops tomorrow when I'm in town, but I think custom is the way I'll go. Making the hole will be very tricky but I have an idea that might make things easier... stay tuned! 😀
