    I started trading futures end of Feb 2020 and this is where I am.
    How many trades per day? Maximum of 3, Minimum of 1
    How many days per week? Minimum of 2, Maximum of 5. I don't trade Sunday.
    What win-rate do you expect? 50-60%
    How much do you expect to make? Max loss $16 (8points), Minimum win $32 (16 points) per MNQ contract.
    How long is a trade supposed to last? Most of my trades don't last more than 5 min, some go as long as 15min
    How do you feel when you trade with a profit? I feel good.
    How do you feel when you loose money on a trade? I don't feel good but I understand it's part of trading. I never let my losers run past my max loss.
    Have you practised enough to answer these questions? I think so
    Do you have confidence or are you afraid to trade? I have more confidence than fear. It was not always this way. Having a strategy I feel good about has helped immensely.

    Thanks Don. Your videos are so right on, and easy to follow. I just started practice trading in my futures account the other day. I followed the MACD and was able get in at a very good number. At one point I was up about $260 with only 2 contracts. I watched my profit go down to $29.00 before I pulled the plug. I stayed in the position just to see how quickly I could lose a profit. LOL I don't really know the lesson there other than to always take that profit off the table. In my real account I would have been out of that trade. • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  7 місяців тому

      Philip: It is great you are able to experience those things in practice --- and I think a sign that you are ready to get serious. I urge everyone (and do it often) to know that this type of trading is very *unlike other types of trading.* Day-trading the equity index futures (the Micro E-Minis in this case) is NOT similar to option and stock trading. As you explore the videos, you will discover that most of the winning trades profit from $15 to $50 and only last between 3 and 10 minutes. That is trading only ONE micro emini futures contract. I trade mostly (95%) the MNQ and the MES; the main difference between the two is that the MNQ has NO financial sector stocks in it. And the S&P500 Micro is a broader based (500 stocks while MNQ is 100 stocks.) Think of the MNQ as 'the tech stocks.'
      A great many of the trades are in-and-out in as little as 3 to 5 minutes. Learn to do this trading and when you have experience and an amount of confidence that follows that experience - in order to scale up... no need to trade differently but merely increase the number of contracts. Start with ONE contract for affordable trading--- and when you scale up to trading 2, then 3..... and so on. Adding more contracts is the way to increase profits (not trying to stretch the one contract trades to more per trade.) Thinking of it this way allows the trader to trade the same way with 4 contracts as they did with 1, 2, or 3 contracts.
      I made a video about this recently, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ygKnR2x8mG4/v-deo.htmlsi=Gsk2Yb-tJXt-Fyzr
      If asked, "what are the two most common mistakes in micro emini day trading?" watch this video for my answer: ua-cam.com/video/9GIfxs27H3c/v-deo.html
      Of those 'two most common mistakes' the biggest culprit is OVER TRADING. So how many trades per day? For both begginners and experienced traders: If you are placing more than 3 trades per day, you are almost certainly over-trading.
      There is a very simple answer as to 'why this is true.': Day Trading micros has a win/loss of about 60%/40% over the long haul - and that's even if you are a good trader. You will have runs of good and bad luck but for the long-haul it's going to be very close to 60/40. You will see the trades here on the channel. I do NOT strive for a higher win rate, instead I emphasize reducing risk at all times during the trade (by aggressively using my stop-market (aka: stop-loss) order. A consistent win rate of over about 60% is a goal that will be like throwing money down the well.
      When you learn to make $20 to $40 a day consistently to turn it into $40 to $80 per day.. .just trade two contracts instead of one. White-knuckle jet pilot trading and looking for a set formula to use as 'rinse, wash, repeat' is a quick way to blow up your account. You must learn to control yourself, successful trading happens 'between your ears' ---- The info I've mentioned here is the key to trading the micros... most beginners (and I have seen thousands fo them) will not heed this advice-- and that is precisely why most day traders will fail at this very risky type of trading. Learning to 'click a mouse' to make money is one of the most fun ways to trade and a really neat skill to develop; just remember blowing up your account will give you an adrenaline rush but it will NOT be fun at all.
      In more than a couple of videos I use this analogy: Pretend like you live in the wild Alaska bush and you only eat what you can kill --- AND you only have 3 bullets a week! This means that 90% of the time you are 'at the screen', you will NOT be in a trade. The goal is for one to learn to be a good trader for only 1 to 5 minutes a day in order to make some money ----- and even then you will have losing days.
      I'm out of time for now... so I'll say good luck and have fun with this things (and that means you MUST trade profitably.)
      There is a link to a free trade simulation program in the description text of all 170+ videos here on the channel.- Don

    Thank you for the videos, I'm fascinated by trading, and really enjoying learning about futures from you as I try to find a trading instrument to learn and start with. I have read, "Don't trade unless you have an edge." "You have to find an edge." But I really don't know what an "edge" is, it always seems kind of nebulous. Is it the use of the MACD and RSI indicators and how you use the crossovers? Is that you're "edge" ?

    • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  Рік тому

      The system with 'the edge' you speak of is a false narrative. I, like everyone else who performs this type of trading - will lose about 40% of my trades and win between 55 to 60% on the average. This is a risky type of trading and not suitable for everyone. I repeat this over and over in my videos. In my book and videos I urge newbies to this type of trading use a trade simulator and to trade in the same dollar amount risk which they will be trading with real money. For more insight, you can check out this playlist: bit.ly/PlayListNumber3
      There is no 'plug and play' formula/method for easy money and fast profits. Ramping up peoples hopes that they will find 'easy money' without any study or practice doesn't help anyone. This trading is very risky and not suitable for everyone. Not everyone agrees with me, and that's ok. In my book one chapter has a heading "There is no such thing as an infallible trading system." That is in the chapter on trade psychology. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for comment/question. - Don

      An EDGE is nothing more than an indication of a higher probability of one thing happening over another. But this indication comes from a development of your skill set in reading price action based on understanding market structure. Study context, NOT form.

    Hi Don. I hate to nitpick, but I wanted to ask. At 15:45 of video you didn't consider it a BUY signal because the RSI was only at 8.83, "not strong," I believe said. Of course, you mentioned it's subjective. Then at 18:55 you got a SELL signal but the RSI was approximately at -2.5, 7:00 AM, which to me is not very strong either. (This was during the Globex session.) Not to mention the green bar chart was generally level in negative territory since about 6:15 AM. So my question, why was first signal (buy) not strong enough, but the second signal (sell) strong enough to commit??

    • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  4 роки тому +1

      Kenneth,
      Honestly I don't recall the exact thinking at that moment or the entire context.
      It could have been context. There are times in after hours (Globex) trading of lower volume and volatility and it could have been the R in RSI was taken subjectively rather than a matter of an exact mathematical solution of the absolute value of the RSI.
      You very astutely, bring up a concern we all wrestle with in trading, that there is not method to shore up all risk and chance. I have no way to know how many of my videos you have seen here on the channel of course, but I never claim to have a totally formulated solution, quite the opposite in fact. And there is a very good reason for that: It doesn't exist.
      I borrowed an argument from a recognizable name to make this point in my book in the Trading Psychology Chapter:
      ***********excerpt**********:
      Stephen Hawking said he thought that indeed it might be possible to travel to the future in time but that going back in time was impossible. When asked why he believed going back in time is impossible. He simply replied, “Because there is no one here from the future.” So I will take a chapter from Hawking’s book and tell you that if it is possible to have a set of trading rules that would prevent all losses, then someone would have already done it. I am saying that out of millions who have tried, no one ever has. If you think you will be the first, good luck to you. When you change your thinking about trading, you will change your trading. Until then, you are playing checkers. You will be like the guy who says he will never stop smoking because he’s not a quitter. ***********end of excerpt***********
      In a recent video: I inserted a picture of six surfers on the beach with their boards and running into the water to ride the waves- and then said, "Even though they have the same equipment and the same beach and water - their next ride will be a completely different experience for each of them." This is how trading is, as most of it happens "between the ears."
      I appreciate your very astute question. Thank you. And now I will shamelessly plug my book- as those sales support this channel of free videos. Thank you again. Stay well. -

      Greetings Mrl76,
      Glad to hear from you and welcome to the channel.. Doing the seminars is an appealing idea although I don't have any plans for that at present. I am building two video courses that I plan to offer by mid-summer this year. If you have my book, send me an email at the address in there and when I have them, I'll let you know when they are available. Good luck to you - Don

      I used TOS for many years, but it is harder to learn and use for beginners than TastyWorks. The 'see it, click it, trade it' on TW plus the drag-and-drop stop loss just make learning it a lot easier. TW has many modes to enter and manage trades; I only show the ones with the simplest set up. I respect that not everyone would always agree with me. I really agree that many brokers software and just about all of the 'traders on UA-cam' really don't cater to first-time traders -- so that's something that I wanted to do here on the channel.
      TW is world famous for low option commissions and has some of the very best option analyzer charting abilities anywhere - Here on the channel, it's all about trading the Micro E-minis and I make a special effort not to make it as complicated as others often do.
      While trading does have its own jargon --- the principles are actually simple-- and it just isn't the 'rocket science'. There's no need for beginners to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars; it really isn't that complicated.
      You may have noticed on the channel here, I don't discuss multiple products and advanced strategies that beginners won't use for a long time. Also I use a consistent set up with 5m candlesticks, MACD 12, 26, 9 (the defaults). People cannot learn by switching setups and bouncing from one 'method' to the other--- always looking for the carrot on a stick that's always in sight but unobtainable.
      I really appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you enjoy the videos, Carl. Thank you and good luck my friend. - Don

      Hello David. I use the TastyTrade (formerly TastyWorks) in all my trading and videos here on the channel. I enjoy using the mouse to change modify orders right on top of the 5m candlestick chart. Here's a video, my most recent, that features that: ua-cam.com/video/agY0sv-paOI/v-deo.html
      Welcome to the channel, trading the Micro E-Minis is a very affordable way to trade index futures; they are smaller 1/10th size so are a great way to learn to trade without having to risk a lot.
      Here's the most popular video on the channel over the last year (it's longer than most of the video here on the channel - about 30m but it displays some good examples of this type of trading. ua-cam.com/video/7YWZMJ2x5m0/v-deo.html
      This one is the most popular video so far this year: ua-cam.com/video/9GIfxs27H3c/v-deo.html

      It a matter of context: volatility of the day, daily trend, news like earnings, FED meeting, unemployment reports, and more. If it were possible to have a fixed/ dead set math formula, we could all just print money everyday, eh? Most of trading happens 'between the ears'. I have a great chapter on Trading Psychology in my book; you can check out the table of contents on this page, just go to the "Look Inside" feature: www.amazon.com/dp/169897941X Welcome to the channel. If you are one of the many following 'technical purist,' who believe in 'formula trading', you might find some relief in the approach on the channel here. I hope you find something you can use to your advantage. Good luck and stay well. - Don

    I’m super early stages learning and I’m confused about what’s happening when the price is dropping. You show a sell and a buy and say you made money aee you meaning this is a future you owned from the day before kept overnight and after market open later sold at the sell indicator and purchased again at a lower price point once the lower pane indicates return of upward momentum?

      My daughter-in-law a BIG OHIO fan- and she had the week off..... now to your question:
      You know all about buy LOW and sell HIGH - keep the difference is your profit.
      There is also what is call a short sell. This is when the trader sells HIGH and then buy the futures back at a LOWER price and keeps the difference as profit..
      Here is a link to a portion of a video on the channel here that explains it better: ua-cam.com/video/gdrPA9KMEcc/v-deo.html

    Don, can you explain why you prefer to only buy above the zero line and sell below? Many others claim you should buy crossovers below the zero line and sell crossovers above the zero line.

    • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  4 роки тому

      Sure, Phil. In the video under which you posted this comment, I explained that the right margin scale of the MACD / 5m I use is a Relative Strength Indicator. It's scale consists of a zero line- and positive is more bullish and negative is more bearish momentum. My decision to wait until there is a signal-crossover either above or below that zero line is a relatively conservative strategy. Of course I supply my 'rules' only as guidelines - and what 'many others' do is up to their own experiences and preferences. You certainly can do your own trials in practice trading to find what works best for you. Good luck with that. Stay well.

    Thanks Don for doing this videos; they are a great complement to TastyTrade's content. Is there a reason you use 5min for chart intervals instead of 1min? Is it a personal preference or is there a technical benefit?

    • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  4 роки тому +1

      Interesting question, Michael. Yes, there are reasons I choose the 5m increment. It is more conservative and generates less 'noise' (aka: false signals for example.) Beginners often think that MACD is MACD and that there is little difference between both the settings (26.12.9) and/or the time increment selected. Each of these variations produce very different signals. For example: In canines: A German Shepard dog and a Rat Terrier are very, very different animals, but both are dogs. "Not all dogs are alike just because they are dogs." Not everyone cares or needs to indulge themselves in the math of MACD composition, so just suffice it to say the settings make a LOT of difference. Another common misconception is that an MACD (with a specific setting of defaults and time increments) will work equally well when used to trade other securities, futures, or financial products. In others words: It is false to say only one MACD setting works the same in trading everything. Thanks; I will be sure to make this clarification in a future video. Welcome to the channel. - don

    A question:
    Do you have any past statistical experience if you have 2 charts side by side, a 5 minute and a similar 1 minute chart (yes,it is noisy!) and both of these two "agree" for the entry/exit signals? Maybe the win ratio will increase, your thoughts? I fully understand that we will get fewer signals.

    • @DayTradingMicroFutures
      @DayTradingMicroFutures  4 роки тому

      No, I do not. I opt for 5m myself and recommend it to those beginning to trade the Micros for the first time... I prefer fewer signals / less noise but of course, not everyone will have those same preferences. Thanks for you comment. Stay well.

    The psychological part of trading is the hardest for me.
    I'm pretty decent at taking a great entry in the morning.
    I can't hold a trade to save my life. Even though I know the cycle, I know that's it's going to give me a good pull back near my entry price at least once, but I am trading with the trend, so I shouldn't be worrying. I should just let it hit my stop if that's the way the market decides to go. For some reason I just can't do it, lol. I end up getting into this tunnel vision trance, making 100+ trades a day. Let's not even talk about my commissions.... Ugh. =/
    These emotions are so freggin real and powerful, you won't know what happened until your account is toast.
    Listen to Mr. Singletary, he is very wise!

      Greetings Ron: Warren Buffett has a saying (many actually) but one of them says, "When you get into a hole, stop digging." And just the other day I saw Bill Gates in an interview with these words, "It is twice as hard to unlearn something than it is to learn it."
      Ron, I admire your honesty. I assure you that you won't believe how many other people will read your comments and find some of the same laments about their own trading. At some time during learning to trade, I think we all have the thought, "If I had just done the exact opposite of all my trades today, I would have made a lot of money."
      In the end, all traders are different and even unique-- what works for one does not necessarily work for another. Sometimes we let other people's methods and advice seem to bore a hole in our brains and setup camp there - and they live 'rent free' in our heads while WE are paying the rent.
      I wrote an email to a friend the other day. He's a trader and like you he is enthusiastic about trading, a very smart fellow and eager to learn. This is part of the note I sent to him:
      "I rarely use sports analogies, but helping someone learn to trade is like trying to ‘talk them through a game of golf’. Even if they are a good listener, they have to learn to play to their own strengths and weaknesses ----and as Oscar Wilde said: “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
      Back in the day when I used to play the game of golf-- my dear friend and father-in-law, used to insist that he treat me to a session with the club’s golf pro before we played a game with a cash bet involved. He knew that a twenty-minute session of instructions on exactly what I should do, would be the quickest and most direct way for me to play a really bad round. (I eventually figured this out and have made my money back treating my friends to those complimentary lessons with the club pro.)
      I find that equity index trading is very much like golf, only without the long walk and the grass."
      Sometimes, it is best to 'park your real money' and sort of go back to the drawing board. There is a simple-to-use trade simulation program at the Chicago Merc Exchange (the "CME"). You have to sign up free get access to it. They provide totally free, a trade simulator. It is sort of like a great 'trading video game', when you "die" -you can hit the reset button and it re-fills your account with cash. There are no annoying ads there and nobody looking over your shoulder creating 'noise' to distract you. In this respect, it is a 'quiet place' place.
      Here's the link: bit.ly/TradeSimulatorFREE
      You should have only two things to do there:
      Rule#1: protect your assets as top priority. ...and
      protect your self-confidence with equal vigor.
      If you have my book, drop me an email at the address in there and let me know how things work out for you. Good luck my friend. - Don

I have turned a $1000.00 account in to a $48,500.00 in a week. lol (paper trading).This is by far the best I have ever seen in my 18 months of training from anyone.
    Thanks again
    Ernest W

      Ha! I blinked twice at that Ernest. No 'system' works that well... I guess you had 'beginner's luck' but the gun was loaded with real cash. That's funny. Thanks for passing that along; I enjoyed that. Have a great week. - Don

      Hello Don - I just checked it and sounds ok here. Is it just that ONE video or is it all of them? I only asked because no else has complained and this video has been up several months now. Is there any way to adjust your MASTER volume to a higher level? Sorry you had a problem.
