LG Washing Machine Not Agitating Fix in 5-Minutes Top Load

- I will show you how to fix your top load LG washing machine not agitating or pulsating.
Remember to turn off the power and water before working on your washing machine.
This LG washer is only 3 years old, just out of warranty and the pulsator plate has failed.
You may have grinding or banging noises when the washing machine is running. This could indicate an object stuck between the agitator and the drum.
It is an easy repair as you only have to remove and replace the agitator plate.

My spline was ok, but the screw kept coming loose. I had overloaded it so got outta jail there.
Mysteriously the screw kept coming loose and this was the root of our problem and the agitator would simply float off. Went and bought a bottle of Loctite Blue ($20!) And left it for a day. Voila! Working 100%😅🎉
25 years out of this machine! Subscribed!
25 years wow that's excellent. Sounds like you need a new Star washer on that bolt. But the loctite blue will work just as good.
Should never come off again.
Same agitator here. Managed to get the b... out by sash cord thru the center plastic, We were glad to see someone working on a PLASTIC agitator which we were worried about breaking. Since you are familiar with the same machine as ours, how about a youtube on how to clean inside the ducts to the filters. LG say it's like opening your tv remote to change batteries
Yes I am working on a filter clean out video. There are filters in the tub and one behind the machine. Stay tuned
fwiw, because I could not pull the agit up after removing the bolt, I flooded with WD40 and left o'nite. That was still nbg so tried hot water and still nbg. In the end it came up but that was hours after the hot-water application. The metal splined insert was left behind on the motor peg. No idea why the peg splines gripped so tight to the insert. They seemed free of corrosion but I smeared with silicone grease. The insert is splined on the outside to match splines in the plastic and had to be tapped back with a hammer.
@@tallgrass5061 wow that was really stuck on I have never seen that before. Good job getting it off.
Thanks for awesome tutorial - agitator plate floated to the surface during washing - imagining having to buy new washing machine, thinking the absolute worst. Have googled a fix- it before, replacing the drain pump. Once again trusty UA-cam to the rescue. The plate was already off - easy. Removed the silver cap - easy as was out of the washing machine. Unscrewed the retaining bolt - easy as was screwdriver fitting not 10mm socket - did not have to wait for the man of the house to return with technical tools. Cleaned everything - plastic fitting still showing some ribbing, so re-fitted the plate back into the washing machine and fastened the screw back in - holding tight. Replace silver cap - test - washing in - so far so good. Thanks NotSealed for helping older aussies save money and not be a part of the throwaway society. Still checking online for a spare just in case.
Great job, thanks for the update. I'm glad this diy repair helped.
it's always rewarding fixing something yourself. Quick tip if the scree comes off again then use some blue thread locker on the bolt.
I have the WTG9020V and I've just replaced the pulsator as per the advice in your video. Unfortunately no luck :(
So what are the issues with your washer. Have you checked that the main spine is not stripped?
@@NotSealed It was the gear! The clutch is broken
@@ApsaraAllure Thats bad news and a bigger job to repair.
@@NotSealedwould you have to replace the clutch entirely?
@@ApsaraAllureI have the same problem
Thanks for the video it really helped with taking off the cap lid (silver) but not the rest of the cap (grey) which I figured out and the replacement of the agitator.... fixed in no time - maybe it would have been great if your video did the complete refit .... thanks again...
Thanks, some of the new agitators come with the grey mount already installed.
Replacement is just the reverse but thanks for the idea on my next repair video.
Help in can’t lift the agitator plate off the bottom on the machine I’ve undone the screw
How do we get the grey plastic bit off please
Hi Deborah how did you manage to get the grey twisty thing off to put on the new one once fitted

I searched n found a video on removing it - I’ll find it and add the link
I have tried this, and still hadn’t washed, do you think it’s the gear box? I have the same exact model as the one in your video
Try and spin the agitator by hand. If it is really easy and spins fast then something is broken. It should have some resistance as connected to the motor etc
My unit also is not washing, but motor is working. Spinning is also working properly. This made me confuse😂
Spinning of the drum is different to the agitation. If you have no agitation but you can hear the motor running then you need to remove the agitation plate and check the spline.
@NotSealed ok thanks. Yes, I heard a noise from the motor during washing, and no cycle is seen. I removed the plate and check it's gear teeth, and it seems ok. The motor shaft is okay also. Appreciate your help
@@recoveryfiles8098I’m having the same issue
Can anyone tell me the exact name of the part here that needs replacing? I believe I have the same issue, and I haven't had any luck searching for parallel spline + my model number.
Hey mate, what part of Australia are you in? I have the model before this the WTG8520, I thought the pulsator might of been the issue as my machine doesn't agitate during the wash cycle but I opened it up like in your video and all my gears look good, not enough wear to cause the issue. Any ideas? It's also not a drive belt as the machine spins perfectly fine.
Could be a failed agitator/pulsating motor. Make sure it spins freely by hand as I have seen coins jam these up good.
You can also leave the plate out and run the washer without clothes to see what happens.
Any update here because same problem with mine. Cannot wash but spinning is good
Any tips for the grey spinners coming out? Have 1 that comes out every other load and had a second one come out last load.
If you remove the pulsating plate you will see a small Philips head screw that holds these grey spinners in place. Maybe the screw has come loose. Otherwise I believe you will need a new pulsating plate.
I’ve undone the screw but cannot lift the agitator plate off the bottom of the machine ,
It could have seized slightly onto the shaft. Try some wd40 around the screw shaft hole. It will come out its just awkward to get a good grip.
Would you happen to know if both part numbers will fit?
They should, I'm just guessing that the newer part number is an upgrade.
dueing washing, i am getting lodly noise. how to remove the same
Remove the screw holding the agitator, sometimes the screw is under a plastic cap.
would this be stopping it from emptying aswell?
No, usually if the washer is not emptying then you have a blockage in the drain filter.
Look here for instructions

If the spline that the plate is attached to is also ground down is this an easy fix?
That's a harder fix. I haven't seen the motor end spline fail. Make sure the groves are just not full of soft aluminum metal shavings.
Thank you, you were correct about the shavings!
Ordered a new agitator plate and have fixed it now
@@NotSealed hi there I was wondering if you can please help me , the broken agitator plate has a grey plastic spinning collar / sleeve that the silver cap clips onto , the new agitator is missing this so I assume we have to remove off the old one, but how ? Even LG are stumped , I called today and they are escalating my case , hoping you could shed some light as you have done it , thanks
Disappointed you didn't show what a new one would look like, as I have no idea what a parallel spline is.
Called a LG agitator or pulsator. New ones look the same as old ones.
Can anyone tell me the exact name of the part here that needs replacing? I believe I have the same issue, and I haven't had any luck searching for paralell spline + my model number.
It's called an LG agitator or pulsator. Surprised you can't find any with the model number. They are all sold at most appliances parts stores.
