That was interesting to see inside, thanks for taking the time to do that.
Thanks for showing this. I'm dealing with this exact problem at the moment and this helps my curiosity on what's causing it
Very interested video. Thank you.... some people are just too lazy and don't appreciate the real knowledge
I appreciate your kind comment
I love to see how things work, for fun. It looks like you do too. Nicely done!!!
I am an LG service tech and you sir are awesome. Good job
Great job thanks for showing us
Unique video in UA-cam show how it is look inside the gearbox😂😂
great video. my washer is 12 years old. clutch bearing just failed. Why can't they just make it with replacable bearings. sad. going to cost me near $500 canadian with shipping to get the part (and buy a socket!). whole new machine is $815 taxes in... damn.
Can you believe those gear cases were only $45 when I made this video. Now remember, I got Contractor prices but now they’re $275 my price double to you.
well i was going to think about fixing mine it is 12 years old. new part is $331 plus freight and tax prob be $500.new washer is $815
You are not allowed to work on my appliances. Thank you for the good laugh!
While you're at it, check your washer to see if you have a Hose Clamp or Glue on the inbound side of the discharge pump. If so, that is not a factory connection. There is not supposed to be any Glue or Hose Clamps on anything according to LG. Squeeze clamps only. Most of the LG washers had to be reconditioned, then sold as new. The hose is 2 inches too short and the travel of the tank, to offset a lopsided load, will one day rip that hose off. I repaced 12" of drywall in my whole washroom. Contact the FTC.
I have the exact problem with my LG smart drum and I’m hoping I could just change the tub seal and bearings
same bearing failed on mine i just pulled it out Love to fix it with new clutch assembly but i dont think i can get part cheap enough... shame just a simple bearing and the whole unit is trash
It’s a shame because back in 2018 I was buying these clutch assemblies for only $45 lol 😂 I think they’re like 200 bucks now thank you, Joe Biden
Gonna try and replace this driveshaft assembly this weekend because the smaller bearing is shot...hopefully it came with a new seal.
So ya think you could replace the inner bearing or not worth the hassle?
@@BayouRepairGuy Any chance you can share the website where you get the gearcase for $45?
I have the LE error on my 5 yr old LG top loader, I just ordered this part on Amazon for $106 and free next day shipping. Hopefully it will cure the error.
I do too, where it tries spinning but like stops skipping gears or something, did replacing the clutch assembly help?
Did that fix your LE error??..I have the same problem on my Samsung..just makes a clicking noise and won't spin ..like it wants to..but its not letting it
Yes you need a new clutch assembly
I believe I'm having this issue, where do you suggest I buy the clutch assembly? Also, what beer were you drinking?
Anywhere that sells a namebrand one and not an aftermarket
Hey, can i replace the teeth only on that thing or do i have to replace the whole shibang?
I don’t know I’ve only ever replaced the whole thing
Any idea where to buy only the tub seal?
I don't get why you took it apart; there is no bearing/seal kit to fix it. I just replaced my assy today so I am out $106. Where did you get one for about $50?
I own an Applaince repair company so I get better pricing than most. I took it apart to see what the failure was
2024 yup same problem
How many beers did this man consume before making this video?
I just bought a new clutch assembly just like this one. Is there anything I can put on this to prevent rust or prolong the life? Like anti seize... or caliber grease...?
@@BayouRepairGuy Ok, thank you for the quick reply. Much appreciated. Hoping this one I replace hangs in there for awhile.
try Q20 lubricant
Is it possible to just replace the bearings instead of the whole assembly? Surely a bearing shop could match the seal and lower bearing
Anything is possible, but the gearcase are only like 150 my cost
I'm like you and have dissasembled it on the off chance I can replace just the seal and bearings. Il try match them at a bearing shop. Might be a cheap fix. Less than 150
Whole machine wouldn't be worth the 200 even fixed
@@alexandertrenberth129 it’s worth a try
What's the chances you have one laying close by to check the bearing for numbers for me ? 🤔😆
Our LG top loader clunks when it changes direction agitating? Do you know why?
b/c its not a speed queen
My LG top load washing and rinsing function are working but if you set in spin only its not working, what could be the problem?
Yes it could be
You got to see a real professional. Beer on the table. No safety glasses. And pretty quickly go to the Hammer.
What are you talking about? I own two companies, electronics and appliance repair. I was a corporate facilitator for AE factory service. I’m an expert witness for the court system. There’s nobody more professional. What’s you’re commenting on is a video I made on my time off of me just explaining things in layman terms.
What does they plastic actuator that goes inside actually do?
💯
so you told me the only problem is internal seal failure? any way to repair? thanks
Yes new gearcase
It comes as a complete set, you don't replace any individual parts in it.
You weren't intending to rebuild that part, you just wanted to take the bad one apart to see why it failed and no intention to reuse any of it because you already have a brand new assembly to replace it with. Every one who is freaking out doesn't understand what is going on. I have a Kenmore/Whirlpool he top loader that I bought as a demo for cheap. It ran nicely for first three years and after that the main shaft tub seal fails after about a year and you have to tear it completely down and replace shaft, tub bearings, and seal. It's involved process and if you get cheap parts or have a bad day it will start leaking right away and you have to do it again in about a month. The parts in OEM are usually over 100, and the cheap Chinese kits are around 50. I have redone it about 4 times since I got it in 2013. I have given up and ordered a LG 7900 top loader from Costco with a 4 year warranty and I wanted to see what the bearing setup is like in the machine I'm getting. I supposedly won't have to worry about it for at least 4 years but I want to know what I'm up against if I ever have to deal with it myself after the warranty expires. It looks way simpler than the Whirlpool direct drive setup as you just replace the whole setup rather than trying to knock everything out and completely replace each part and hope you got it right. Even at 100 bucks it looks like you have a much better chance of a successful repair the first time and it should last longer too.
If you have direct experience with the 7900 setup let me know and I'll keep the info saved for hopefully much later. I now have a really nice bearing tool, and a bunch of shafts and dead bearings for a Whirlpool... 🤬
Thank You my friend
You can do this if u want, but if u want to fix it, search this, buy the part and your washer will be running again
@@BayouRepairGuy I'm not doubting your experience at all, but I had the E6 error on my LG washer and it was simply a little plastic motor assembly which took me more time to lean my machine over than it did to replace the object in question...$40 later it worked and trust me I'm a complete rookie at appliance repair, unlike yourself.
What happened to the actuator arm on the side
I don’t remember
question? Doesnt this part have a ten year warranty?
no only one year
I fixed mine with a new washer. Ten years is all they last anyways.
I hope it was a speed queen because they’ll last for 25
What do you call that spring that pushes the gear?
Pushy gear spring
Where do you get it for $51.00?
Sears and I purchased 4 of them and have used them all. Now the price has gone up b/c the video is 3 years old
Why would an experienced tech use a modular screwdriver as a pry tool ?
I appreciate your support and comments
The type of video that only shows how to destroy the assembly and obviously he never had before ? wont come apart use more power instead of studying the assembly .. total useless destruction.
Exactly
Bad job
Thank You
First, you remove your hat.
