    Lmaooo 11:08 "Whatever you do, don't look at your cam bearings. If you look at them, they'll be bad. If you don't look at them, they'll be fine." That is the finest piece of automotive advice I've ever heard 😂🤣

      Aaron H. See, they were perfectly fine before.. now look at them :/
      Ignore the fact when I looked at mine, they were not even there, forged cam shaft, onto straight pure aluminium alloy head.

    • @freaksavior
      @freaksavior 7 років тому

      Ouch.
      What sucks for me is those heads where only a year old, same with the motor. I got about 20k miles before it started ticking.

      thats nasty, someone probably left some shmoo in the oil galleries for it to starve and just start rubbing like its the end of the world..
      only found out about mine when green fluid started to pour out of the exhaust, thinking "new gasket time" and it was a dirty crack instead... I suppose it was 400K+ on that head, something had to give..

    after reading all this crap online about having to remove the oil pump and replace timing chain, balancer bolt, lifters, head gaskets, head bolts, pushrods and all the other gaskets I was starting to get overwhelmed and the parts list was like $700. Now that I've seen this and I already know you made 1000 hp doing shit like this I'm ordering a sloppy stage 2! lol thanks for the confidence.

    FYI: I never use compressed air when changing springs. The valves usually just stay in place. If they do slide down you can push them back up by rotating the engine and the piston will bring them up. Just something I've noticed and maybe it could save you some time. This is an awesome video for first timers, good work

    Dowel rods are insurance that the lifter won't drop to the pan. They can still drop part way (to the upper machined part of the lifter body) if you get unlucky. I had two lifters drop when installing a cam in my C6 but was able to tap them back into the plastic lifter holder thingy with a long 3/8 extension in the cam bore.

    you ever have a problem melting the front crank seal when you heat the balancer, or does it not have to get all that hot?

      no, think about how hot the seal and pulley and block is when the coolant is 200 and oil temp is 250

    I know I asked this before. Never got a response. I am going to use this cam and spring set in my gen3 5.3. I'm not running turbos as of yet. Is this cam a decent one for just naturally aspirated? Can I just skip on the pushrods if they look ok?

    • @SloppyMechanics
      @SloppyMechanics  4 роки тому

      Yes, NA, nitrous, blower, turbo, it works, yes stock pushrods

  • @hbetts96
    @hbetts96 6 років тому

    I had a couple pushrods worn the same as what you showed on my 5.3 in one cylinder and was wondering if that's caused from a lack of oil do to the lifter? If so wouldn't you want to change the lifter as well? I know this is sloppy mechanics so it will fly but my motor is torn down to the bare block and was wondering if that's something I should do while it's out, or can the simply be cleaned? Same with the rockers that match those pushrods should they be replaced or would they be fine?

      A cheap HF torque wrench will get you close enough. I wouldn’t spend a lot on one. HF has been working great for me. I even used a friends expensive torque wrench to test a head I had torqued to see how close it was. Spot on.

      think about how hot the motor gets while running, its designed to seal at 200-240deg temps for a longgg time, so heating the balancer to 200-300 is shrug worthy for it
