Interested in pre 1980 abandoned cars or trucks/ barn finds. (Not interested in foreign cars) and 1st and 2nd gen Cummins (89-98) diesels only
That farmer who owned the truck should have just given it to you for free. I've never seen such a nightmare under the hood.
Everything has price. If they didn’t want to spend money than why look? Now days 1st 2nd and 3rd gen trucks are 50,000. So? Idk how much he invested into this truck but I’m going to watch it now. So it’s a steal for me. 5000? That’s a fair deal
@@jaceyedison1355no
@@melvingibson4525 you must not know the quality of the engines back then
@@jaceyedison1355 the newer 6.7 are better once you yank off the emissions crap. I would not pay 3k for a core engine.
@@melvingibson4525if it had the gas 12valve 3.9v6 magnum that outpull 6.7 probably 2 6.7 and 5.9 but that gas hit different
2:18, looks like some sort of homemade heat exchanger/ shutoff system to allow used cooking oil to be used as fuel. For this to work, the diesel engine has to be warmed up in order for used cooking oil to be used. They probably had both fuels hooked up. When the diesel engine warmed up on the diesel, the diesel fuel was turned off and the cooking oil turned on.
That’s a crazy system. Kind of curious to see what it was like when it was “working”
@@theetravisb 1st time I heard about this was on TV sometime in the mid 2000s. I think it was Dirtiest Jobs with Mike Rowe.
yep, that was my guess too... Good eye Mate...
Probably smells like french fries when running on cooking oil!
EXACTLY what I think
DAM hippie BULLSHIT
This is really interesting to see the flip side of used oil systems and effects on the motor. Thx for sharing
looks like to me they tried to make the truck run on biodegradable diesel fuel perhaps?
That or vegetable oil
@@theetravisb people doing that is sort of popular down here in the south ..always trying to save a buck or 2 but what they dont realize is that over time it does sever damage to the interal parts of an engine ..thats why most of them does it to an older car or truck ..
Vegetable oil often needs pre heating, maybe they used the heater hoses for the cab heater to pre heat the vegetable oil? Just a thought
@@xXGenuwineXW0lfensteinXxI would rather use a mix of diesel and used motor oil
Aye..@@Cherokee93
It's a great start. Very nice find guys. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
God bless
You're coming up with some good content. Thanks.
Thank you for watching
@@theetravisbLooks like something to keep vegetable oil from freezing
You're a braver man than I am, I'd be too scared to work on whatever McDonald's fryer grease contraption that was
That could be an additional oil filter...
lol yep
I love the steel guitar riff at the beginning!
Your dad has a great voice he could work In radio as a dj.
If that 12 valve is viable , better perform the killer dowel pin mod . It has wiped a lot of good engines !
Loose timing case bolts took out more engines than the KDP
Iv also had great luck with using zep concrete cleaner and a heated pressure washer. But it was full stainless. Cover that motor in zep ( from home depot ) and get a hot pressure washer it might clean it up enough
Mr. B. Here ! With over 50 + in automotive industry & a U.S. Cavalry tank crewman diesel engine start from the being don’t start with out going thru the system one step at a time ! Good luck !!!
Thanks for another , guys !!
everything under the hood screams " i knew a guy who could do it cheaper "! LOL
Thats a setup to run straight oil engine oil btw and boy howdy seems they did it all on a whim the heat exchanger looks weird
Congratulations Travis and Ric. Blowing out oil out the dip stick. No Title. Time quick Flip. Thanks for sharing! 💯❤️👊👍
always great to see these turn over!
I dont consider doing any of this crap "fun", but what IS fun is watching other guys do it on You Tube 😂.
So iv worked fast food for 10 yrs now, One thing
I would NEVER EVER run fryer oil in my motor, its absolutely death. When that oil drops below 85 degrees it turnes into glue!!! Solid state glue!!!! My job is cleaning the flyer tanks and pumps, we use an industrial cleaned called contender / meriatic acid it will eat your skin but not metal! And heated pressure washer. Its the only way to clean it off. So I could only imagine what a diesel motor looks like after not running for a while...on cooking oil. What a mess
I’d say that dead cylinder wasn’t a burnt up piston but more the piston rings being gummed up hence no compression and it will just pour into the oil also
Homemade biodiesel rigging. They didn’t know what they were doing.
I hope you gave just about scrap price
Pretty obvious to me, they were trying to run the thing on waste cooking oil. Ya gotta heat it up to keep it liquid. But you have to start it on diesel fuel to build heat before you switch over to grease.
That's a really creative setup for alternative fuel😂
It’s for spit swapping the coolant for easier starts in the cold weather
Where we're goin', we don't NEED any DOORS!
Should do a video driving and picking up the door. I would watch it.
Thank you for your APPRECIATION to your subscribers Travis!!😮
Always Dan 💪🏼
@@theetravisb ya
Thats a home grown fuel preheater all the PSA passenger car diesels Ive owned have that built in
Sad to see the old truck become a parts donor! Your trans idea is a good one! I wish you the best!
Really enjoyed the content ☺️. Thanks 👍 guys.
Man i really hope you didn't pay more than the worth of that eng. With all the jerry riggin going on, INSANE Blowby and no doors/cut wiring harness that'd be crazy. Seeing how the drive train was taken care of/the oil, and overall condition of everything. I wouldn't have paid more than 2k.
The No doors surprised me too
What a mess, but I feel better knowing you both revived it. I know a whole lot less about diesels so this was informative too. Cool truck and man I love those engines
Greatest engine ever
You can hear the dead cylinder: 1 2 3 4 5 siiix, 1 2 3 4 5 siiix, 1 2 3 4 5 siix.
That cadence DOES NOT tell you what cylinder it is but #6 is USUALLY the bad one.
Bought a Cummins with that EXACT sound. Bought it to rebuild anyway.
Great video as always. Can’t wait to see your Dad’s El Camino once he is done with it. Greetings from Florida.
Yes an update on that is coming soon
That thing is going to look sweet in new teal paint.
Nice. Grill. And Viser. With. Factory. Lights. Thanks
Well guys I just fond your channel . Watched it like your content and what you seem to be doing. So one more new subscriber .
Thanks Gary 💪🏼
I ran veggie oil in my 93 7.3 idi for years. It gummed up so bad I had to replace the fuel lines from tank to engine and the injection pump and lines. You might save a few bucks but in the long run it will turn into a headache
Awesome episode dude
Thank you
It's a vegetable oil fuel filter and heater setup to keep it flowing
The copper tubbing is a home made fuel heater iv seen ole boys in Idaho set stuff up like that for when it sub zero temps so the diesel don’t gel up
Looks like a home made heat exchanger to heat up waste cooking oil for a biofuel conversion. Cleaned & sterilized, it could be used as a condenser for a still (distilled water or ???. )
"WOWSER!" Holy crap, that thing is totally gummed up.
I knew that my good old
Est Wing hammer was good for other things than beating nails to death, ha ha! That's great ingenuity for the many other uses with an Est Wing! Right On!
Ok, back to the video, I had to put this in because I was so impressed with the way you used the hammer. I think that a regular old hammer might have broken by the abuse that you and I both have used them for, 👍!
They are tough ol hammers thanks for the compliment
Whatever they tried to do, they, basically, ruined the truck. Dumb!
this makes my first gen look brand new 😥
Your dad is the coolest!!!
That's a homemade heat exchanger it allows you to run veggie oil. You run the truck on diesel until it's at operating temp. You flip a switch, turn on the auxiliary fuel pump on the firewall, and it will pump veggie oil the the heat exchanger thinning it out so it can be burned as fuel. You then turn off the diesel fuel pump and run on the veggie oil.
Another great vid!!!!! 👍 👍
Thank you
this is a fire waiting to happen... people, clean your damn trucks
My guess is it runs on bio-diesel or used fryer oil.
I laughed so hard when you showed how much blow by it had!! It was puking out the dip stick tube even!! HAHHAA
This truck is the opposite of "unmolested" . . . what some people do to these beautiful trucks. ?? I feel bad for it. 😢 Imagine if they had just maintained it a loved on it what that truck would / could be. Hopefully the 12V is solid, at least you'll have that as a basis for something. If this truck gets resurrected as a driver you will have pulled off a miracle job!
looks like a tweeker got a hold of it
the truck has alot of character
If it was in fact used by a hotshotter, that Cummins is ready for the pasture.
Great job, my friend!
You put a lot of hard work and a heck of a lot of time and thought into this 'sticky' situation, ha!
Yes it was way to sticky literally
mint first gen my dad had one the same
Silly question. Why not spray the gunk off of the injectors before trying to take them apart?
It was to caked on
Go read my comment. It expanded why you can't
Check for vacuum leaks. They can cause a lot of blow by symptoms.
I think that is to run oil and you need to heat the oil in cold weather places and will help burn the oil better if its hotter.
That is a heater system to keep biodiesel fron coagulating. And the filter is used to get the small particulates out of the vegetable 🛢 😊
Walter White's first attempt at a rolling meth lab😂😂😂
I am guessing that sludge is not lack of oil change miant, but running the damn thing on cooking oil. Seen it before. The most idiotic thing to do to a diesel. Good work on you guys! That is quite the job to take on.
She's a breather, we have a breather here!.
Somebody really f*cked up that truck that's what I see lol 😂 coming from a guy who has resealed my 92 12 valve and re-wired the engine bay. That truck is rough.
It’s way rough
Thank you for sharing. God Bless 🙏
I just bought a 12 valve cam gear and retainer + bolts the 12 I bought had an accident with the cam
Hey man if you don’t have a use for the grill you should definitely let me get it
I'm going to guess it burns fryer grease.
Great video guys !
Thank you
They had it running on oil. Would heat it up to thin it out so it would go through the pump correctly.
It's a Flux Capacitor, everybody knows that !!
Thats why i sa an ufo flying by😂😂
Obviously
The Heath Robinson truckling...
Looks like a homemade fryer oil for fuel setup. Junk! The idea is good but??? Hope the motor wasn't ruined somehow.
Im a dmax guy but would love this thing
Guys are great!
The 1st of the most reliable 12 valve ever made. They last forever as long as the water jackets on the side of the block don't bust through But that doesn't happen until you have at least 500 to a million miles.
Looks like an alternative fuel rigging, like fast food cooking oil????
He was trying to get warp drive out of the truck.. he just need one more hose. And five more toggle switches. Darn he was so close. He probably would have got it. If he hadn't lost his glass pipe
I miss my 1st gen.Its got 450,000 on it. My daughter has it
they were mixing use oil and diesel fuel called black diesel
I would try cleaning the fuel system after the bio sluge
get with 1st Gen Resistance for parts
I'd be pulling the 6bt for my Travco motorhome and parting it out...but thats just me
A SOMEWHAT good way to bench test a starter is to clamp it DOWN into a bench vice, under the jaws so that it can't jump out.
Jump it and run a piece of hardwood, like a hammer handle, against the drive gear and put a load on it.
Be CAREFUL and don't grind your knuckles off!
The year was 1993, yet the wood grain still managed to seep in from the previous decade and manifest itself on that dash
Also, what are your washer and dryer doing outside?
Yes the wood grain trend lasted way to long lol. And they are outside because they are having issues
The Fratzhog, French Fry, Fartknocker Freeway Flyer...
Dang $5000 for a rough vehicle with no title!😬
Welcome to Arizona
I would say its probably a homemade engine heater. Bill
11:45 That starter sounds like a small dog barking, lol.
Rebuild that starter. Dont give up a factory Denso for auto parts store garbage.
Might have help some to
Hit that engine bay with the pressure washer with maybe a light degreaser
That's a corn mash still boss man.
He did not need those doors 😂 literally not going to do anything with them. Good content bro
MAN it's HARD to KILL a 12V Cummins!!!
That L-100 is gonna be nice.
It was those dang blue collar tweakers.
It just might be that the nasty vegetable oil gummed up the valve guides, and the piston rings.... 🤔?
Drain the oil, leave the drain plug out, then spray a ton of brake clean down inside each cylinder! Wait an hour, then crank it over about 6 to 12 revolutions, and maybe it will push out all of the gunk, and hopefully free up the rings in #6 cylinder.
OK, back to the video!
the reason it doesnt make sense is because the flux capacitor is missing that makes you go back to the future if you reach 88mph
I hope the air cleaner was hooked back up before your dirt run around the yard.
Nope....😮
