      Same for me. I was a Vanilla player and for many years i play alone. All my character was in my own guild and i lost everything in my guildbank. And Blizzard doesn't care so i stopped.
      Now, i also lost motivation to play any game... i am 37 years old, i played since always and it's devastating for me to lose my only hobby... It's going to take me some time to find a new game that will give me as much fun as I had with wow before this disaster.

    Pushing an issue like this to the forums in the first place is a massive insult.
    I have never seen a data loss like this in the entirety of WoW's history.
    It deserves a direct response and interview with the leads of the game to be fully transparent and explain in detail what is happening here.

    I've been thinking about this since your first video and it hit me that the reason this may be happening, and I acknowledge that I may be way off base here, is by nuking all the stored items especially those that are no longer obtainable it will greatly shrink the database size and give them the ability to fully remove these items and their associated code from the game.
    This will have real benefit to Blizzard allowing them to reduce the size of the data and clean up code that could be causing issues as time goes on. Even if the items are no longer obtainable in game if you can see them in your bank it means that they still exist in the code and database. Given that they can look back and see exactly what you had in your bank in internal logs and the items still exist even if you can't obtain them, there is absolutely no reason that they can't return the items to you. It's that they choose not to. Why? Well firstly it would require a massive out;lay of man hours to take the ticket review logs and manually go through and send you the items. Its not a matter of backups per se as that would be the easy way to do it however, it is not the only way to return your items. Providing there was an issue with the backups they could still manually return the items.
    I'm guessing that they decided to remove these unobtainable items and wiped them from the database which would prevent them from being returned. Personally I would be fine if thats what was done and they would be up front about it. Hell no matter why it happened if they would just be up front and quit sitting behind the stone wall of silence most folks would be ok with whatever happened. Sure they would be pissed up front but most people playing WoW are adults and we get that shit happens.
    Oh well here's to another good company rotting internally. I remember when games were made by gamers and the product mattered most of all. Now its crank out whatever half finished POS you can as quickly as possible so we can hype the crap out of it, sell a shitload of copies, and then start dumping it for the next big pile o poo.
    Crap, now I'm all pissed off and I wasn't affected.
    **Edit** Oh just a side note: They also just reenabled character restore so if their backups are jacked up exactly how do they plan on doing this? Kinda makes you wonder huh.

    • @meatybtz
      @meatybtz 22 дні тому +1

      This very well may be the case as the only thing they've restored have been "low value" and all still obtainable (crafting components of basically zero value). Yet, what is being kept back is things of "real value". Unobtainable items. Special Items. Time Limited Items. I mean, after 20 years, the database of items and old code is really a millstone on Wow's neck.

    Since this Guild Bank issue began my level of trust in Blizzard is at a all time low.
    I’ve been playing since the servers went live and as a long term player I’ve happily tossed money for all the player enticements that Blizzard has offered. From all CE’s, mounts, pets, no account lapses in 20 years, I’ve been a model, loyal player who up until this point was happy with the game overall.
    But now my sense of betrayal and outright being ignored is far too much. The items lost, symbolizes years of time invested in WoW not just gold.
    The fact that Blizzard has chosen to ignore the issue just shows the real colors of where the game is at right now.
    I’ve gradually drifted to more solo content over the years and the balance of enjoyment for my dollars is at an all time low.
    I guess all things eventually come to an end and maybe it’s time to move on to something else.

    Blizzard’s customer service is a shadow of what it used to be in the early days. I’ve been playing since the game’s release in 2004, but my experience with Dragonflight really soured things for me, and I ultimately stopped playing. I haven’t purchased their latest expansion either. In many ways, Blizzard is fortunate that Microsoft stepped in; without their acquisition, I believe Blizzard would still be on a downward trajectory.
    Interestingly, about a year after Microsoft took over, my unresolved support ticket was revisited, though Blizzard still didn’t make things right. It felt as though someone from Microsoft had stepped in, looking through tickets to win back longtime players who had left the game.
    I’m Jones and to play but if I buy the expansion, it probably won’t be until it’s on sale if it all. Blizzard is just not worthy.

Remade the chars and made a new guild, have noticed someone who is not in my guild is filling up my money log with massive withdrawls, but the gold that is in the gbank doesn't change. The fact that they are slow rolling restorations, at least in part, links back to my comment on your first video. That this is more of a customer service team issue vs. actual data-loss issue. It's like when you take a team of 10 people who are already doing the work of 20 people and then you fire half of them. Then this happens and they are already in total overload. There are even likely internal fire-wall issues (no not the data kind, the bureaucratic or organizational kind) that relate to who handles "customer service tickets at lvls 1, 2, and 3" vs who has the rights to access backups vs who has access and write authorization to the actual live database (say even as bad as ONE Person who has the rights to directly modify the live database). So you have ticket guy, in overload, data restoration guy (backup guy) who is dealing with maybe 20 different games/services by himself or maybe two people, and Wow Live Database Dude, who manages all the live databases and the PTR and internal wow testing DB. All of whom, literally, are in overload mode. So it trickles it's way through and DB dude makes changes when he's got the time. I am not supporting Bliz in this in so much as.. this is a SERVICE GAME, which means, they need to service it. But Microcephaly Softnoggins, has basically beheaded the internal teams. Which means when the excrement hits the proverbial fan, there are simply not enough man hours or team morale to make effective servicing and problem solving fast (if at all).

    • @hobosnake1
      @hobosnake1 22 дні тому

      Its one of a handful of games that require a subscription. That status as a subscription game should come along with am expectation of having your service uninterrupted. Not just in the server aspect, but these banks as well. All of these issues. If they cant ensure quality, why should I ensure them 15 bucks a month? Insane. Anything beyond server maintenance is an unexecusable interruption of service. If my guild bank just disappears? Thats potentially a big issue. Again, insane....

  • @YfkH8
    @YfkH8 21 день тому

    EU player here. I totally agree with all of you. This is bullshit, we've lost thousands of hours of play. We paid for those hours. They have to do something, if they can't bring back all the items, they can at least make compensation in gold for the value of our losses and all that lost time.
    It's just completely depressing, I don't even want to start the game anymore, it's disgusting. What's the point? Tomorrow everything can disappear again and they'll just say “sorry, you're on your own”.

  • @vicodin57
    @vicodin57 8 днів тому

    I had a guild (EU) with all my characters. Hours of farming during so many years. I lost everything. I said "i had" because, i stopped wow because of that. 19 years of playing for no consideration, no apologies, no compensation. I was a single player who like making gold with raw gold, craft and gathered, so i used my guildbank every single day. Like many of you, Blizzard is dead to me. I thought of use my gold for my blizzard wallet but i no longer have trust in Blizzard, so I don't want to give them money by exchanging the tokens for money from the wallet. 1 month subscription ~ €13, one token = €20, so for each token I transfer to the wallet, they earn €7 and I don't want to give them a single cent.

    I haven't heard of this situation from the "big" guilds. Did they suffer from the bug too? Did Blizzard give them any compensation for not talking about it? or did they manage to restore theirs? Or did the bug occur just before the expansion and so they don't care because the items became obsolete?

  • @jeshirekitenkatt1212
    @jeshirekitenkatt1212 22 дні тому

    i stopped playing mid-shadowlands and i'm... floored.
    blizzard makes an oopsie THEMSELVES that because of the wow token they implemented now has A REAL USD VALUE and they stick their thumbs up their butts and say people are sol?! that is actually insane.
    meanwhile the ff14 team paused their automatic system reclaiming limited player housing due to inactivity due to a hurricane that didn't even hit within their own country. it's times like this that having switched feels really nice. but i genuinely feel so messed up for people who stuck with this game only to be treated like this.
    like i agree they can 100% restore these items, you used to be able to contact a gm over lost mail and items and if it was within a reasonable timeframe, they could do it. there is no way in hell blizzard can't restore this stuff. i think they don't want to have to pay anyone to go through and do it maybe, maybe it does have to be done on an item by item basis, but they do 100% have that ability, even if it means peeking at a backup. historically, they always have.

    I don't think GMs as we knew them exist anymore. I haven’t had one talk to me in a long time and ticket replies are always canned responses for other issues with dead links. I play a lot at night and tickets seem to always get replied to in the wee hours. So they are either hiring people on the other side of the planet to save on labor costs or using some sort of automated AI. They may only have a handful of actual GM staff because if you press them you eventually get something that sounds like it might be an actual response.
    It's not that they don't have the data. They have done rollbacks in the past, but they were very soon after the fact and they were for everything in the game. At this point they can’t rollback everything and probably need to write an ad hoc tool/script for this specific situation. That or have people manually comparing logs. I understand they don’t want to devote the “manhours” to this. Some people would be fine with some form of compensation that shows they are actually sorry. For others that would be unacceptable.
    Smoke Test comes from electronic circuit prototyping. After you assemble your circuit you just turn it on and see if any components burn out or “smoke”. Of course it has a more diverse meaning now.
