Mercedes W212 | Engine Oil Change The Classic Way

  • How to change engine oil and filter the classic way for Mercedes-Benz. This is done on a E-Class W212 Diesel engine OM651. But the procedure is mostly the same on other engines and models.
    Normally I do change the engine oil in my garage, jacking the car up. But because I wanted to get better shots I did rented a car lift here in town for this engine oil change.
    Don’t forget to always change the copper gasket/washer. Is really important because if you not change it the oil pan could start to leak. I change both gasket and oil plug is only about 2-3 euro.
    Also want to say that’s I have no mechanic degree or something like that, just a hobby mechanic that try to figure out how to repair and service my car at home. I do read the mb documents before how things should be done, and try doing it the (right) way.
    But always do your own research before attempt the things you see in my videos. Let me know in the comment section below how you doing the oil change, and which oil you prefer and why 👊
    Don’t be afraid to ask me anything you think about this topic, I try my best giving a proper answer.

    You did it way better than most of the today’s mechanics! You did a geat job. I also recommend you to clean the filter housing cap with a break cleaner befoe putting fresh rings and filter’s itself. Now you and the car can enjoy the fresh engine :)

    I been using a pump to oil last 2 years and it actually removes all of the oil , I was skeptical but it did do the job great and just makes it a lot easier , for years I been doing it the proper way but the pump makes like a lot easier

    • @discerningmind
      @discerningmind 2 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't trust the pump to remove all the grit that settles to the bottom of the oil pan. You may be asking for trouble in the long run.

      Me too. It reaches right to the bottom of the pan and draws out more oil than specs (6L vs specs 5.5L). i won't have to worry about change plug or gasket.

    Well done. For me the best way to change the engine oil. Better than use a vaccum machine. Just dont forget change the ring of the screw plug and i like clean the oil filter support before put the new oil filter.
    I put oil to the midle level (more or less) and I check the oil level too after run the engine for 1 minute and i add oil to the Max level.

      much work anyway, and at the same time you can do inspection underneath.

      Go with the way you feel comfortable with. But if you are afraid to tighten the drain plug to much I do recommend to buy a torque wrench, you could actually find a hobby wrench for about 50 euro. But is less messy to drain with a oil extraction device and that’s how they doing at the Mercedes-Benz garage. I don’t know what’s the best way, but I know many old schools advice the drain plug way.
