Why I started Jiu Jitsu? During my daughter's the tournament in Feb 2023, I sat sideline video taping my daughter getting crushed, and I had nothing to say, watching her getting destroyed. After as a dad tried to give a pointer on the move but she was pretty upset and said "Dad, you don't know anything", I was going to say something back but realized that she was 1000% correct. I was crushed and made a promised that I will learn. And today going 4 months ... getting crushed every single day, but I did learn alot. Now I roll with her and we develop bonding in Jiu Jitsu.
I started jiu jitsu because i was an addict. I decided to try and quit, and eventually made it. This created a void in my life. Jiu jitsu filled that void. Cheers from a white belt =)
That's amazing man. Beating your addiction like that is so commendable. Glad you found BJJ. We've got a guy at our gym in the same boat. I really respect guys like you. An extremely difficult thing to do.
Good on ya, brother. I’m also in recovery and have embraced the philosophy that I can’t change being an addict, but I can at least try to focus my addictive nature in positive directions… and BJJ has definitely been one for me as well. Stay on the straight and narrow and know you are not alone! 👍🏽
Love to her it! My dads trained in a lot of martial arts, but only jiujitsu could get him to stop smoking. Its amazing how it develops into a real passion.
I started doing jiu jitsu because Joe Rogan kept talking about it on his podcast and because watching the UFC became a habit of mine, plus i always wanted to learn how to fight. I now love it much more than i would have imagined, I discovered a new part of myself. Ill keep doing jiu jitsu till the day my body cant handle it.
My wife and I started Jiu Jitsu because our youngest son started. Keep up the great content Jordan; its nice seeing other families bond because of this incredible discipline.
This guy is a two stripe white belt?! Holy buckets! He’s pretty impressive! I hope he sticks with it… he seems to have a lot of ability and potential. 👍🏽
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu 3rd stripe, but blue or purple?? 😉 Seriously, congrats to him. Every step is important and significant. I hope he keeps putting in the work!
I have my black belt in karate and have done striking martial arts my entire life until I was doing some film work for a new jiu jitsu academy in town and immediately signed up to join once I finished up their project, now I’m almost a year in and can’t believe I went so long without it. You’re videos have been a tremendous help!
These are very good. My dream would be a series like this of white belts so we can check out white belt mistakes across the board. Its hard to figure them out unless you really study. Not easy to remember the 1000 mistakes i make vs blue belts on the mat.
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Nice. Another thing that might be useful in general is something on what BJJ is. I'm past that point now, but when I started I could never find anything good on what it is for someone who doesn't know anything about combat sports. You can hear a lot about the benefits, but to a newcomer it looks like some kind of competitive death yoga. I eventually read books that said as much as "people almost always clench up in fights, then bjj happens..." and "guard is good because you control their weight and direction" etc. But I never saw a good informed video on BJJ from 30,000 ft.
I started jiujitsu a week ago, mainly because of depression and loneliness. The gym i go to is very welcoming people are so humble and they make me feel like im part of the family. Im pretty sure that’s just the community in general as every dojo i tried is very helpful. Anyway, it keeps me away from feeling down, im constantly thinking of bad thoughts. Thanks for these videos they are very helpful man.
Would love to see you roll with Lee in 6 months to see his progression, and then 6 months after that, and then so forth. The voice over is fantastic as always. Thanks for walking us through the rolls and giving us an idea as to what you are aiming for, but also equally as valuable is explaining what your partner is doing wrong. Being able to see both sides helps with the bigger picture. Keep it up Jordan, and thanks again.
I started jiu jitsu as part of my treatment for service related PTS. I’ve found it super beneficial but struggle at times to retain information. Stumbling across your channel has got me excited - I love the concepts you teach and find it a much more productive way to learn. Thanks for the great content!!!
Started my journey in 2014 after almost 17 years incarcerated. I originally started to keep myself out of trouble and after being quickly humbled by what I called nerd assassins at the time I fell in love with the intricacies that bjj had to offer and the pure beauty of watching true practitioners flow through moves that I couldn’t even believe a body was capable of. I train 3-5 times a week still and love it today just as much if not more than I did back then. Thanks for the tutelage and the way you go about instructing. Much respect. OSS
I wrestled in middle and high school and always loved it. When my first son got old enough to start wanting to wrestle with me I couldn't handle how much I missed grappling. So I started Jiu jitsu at 38 years old! I absolutely love it, I just wish I had time to train more. Training is one of the few times during the week where I can forget about everything else and focus on one thing.
That's so true! Our gym logo is an Enso symbol. Which means, to free the mind and let the body create. That's really such a great benefit of BJJ, forgetting about life's stresses!
@@aqueento if you have an ego, leave it at the door, and start a bjj journal, you will hold onto the information much better and learn the techniques much faster. I'm a 20 y/o purple belt and I wish I had started a journal when I was younger!
I started jiu jitsu because i wanted to do something challenging and far out of my comfort zone. As there’s only one other activity in my life that involved super close contact with other people I thought this would be a good way to do something new. Now that I’m into it I enjoy the strategy dwelling that comes from being put in painful spots and not wanting to let that happen again.
Nobody has better jiu jitsu videos imo. You do a great job explaining every step in a way that’s easy to digest and understand. You can bet I’m going to attempt the rolling back attack to calf slicer my next class. Thank you for the content
Oh and I started because of my son.. I took him to a class when he was 4 years old which inspired me to join and do something that allows us to strengthen our bond.: I’ll forever be grateful to him.. it’s brought balance to my life..4 years going strong! OSS
Amazing man I love when parents start training after getting their kids into it. What a bond is creates. Something I really love seeing happen at my gym and everywhere 😁
Luv the fact that you edited the video at slower speed for us in sync with your narrating. Great job for that and thank you. I’ve really been wanting a video just like this where a higher belt is narrating the mistakes lower belts make in real time. 💯 ✊🏽
This is a great format for videos that I rarely see. There's loads of people putting up technique videos but what you don't get to see is all the stuff that leads up to making a technique work or not. Also - what's the point in a flashy move if it's totally low percentage and there's a million little things that need to happen to make it successful? Breaking down rolls like this helps you see these little details - when to go for something - when not to - what decisions to make and when etc... Thanks! Really appreciate it.
Dude, these are interesting AF. To see a BJJ black belt literally tell you the mistakes you’re making with grips and positions as a white belt while he’s rolling with a white belt is super helpful. Also, credit to the guy rolling with him. I make literally the same mistakes he’s making.
I will! Thanks man, I'm glad you like them! And I agree. I imagine being a whitebelt, watching rolling commentaries must provide a lot of insight. Wish they existed when I was a beginner 🙂
Just found your channel today. I started jiu jitsu in 2006 after a friend took me to a class. I got humbled repeatedly and realised this is the most effective form of self defence there is. Got injured in 2010 and took a long break starting again yesterday.
Hey Jordan I started BJJ a month ago. I moved to a new area for a college summer internship and have always wanted to learn martial arts, so I took advantage of not having anything to do outside of work to train. I've been going 5-6 days a week and I absolutely love it. Nothing makes me happier. I love learning and getting better at things and tbh, have always had that fighting-fire in me. I love how it fulfills a primal instinct to fight with man. I love the camaraderie. I love it all and your videos are amazing. Thank you for all the help. I will keep watching:)
Love the x guard entry from half butterfly! Lee tried to staple your near-side arm to finally get a cross face but you immediately use this to shift his weight overhead forcing the post! Beautiful! Thanks for the video 🙏
I started BJJ to get fit/lose weight, and also because I wanted to learn to defend myself. Now it's evolved to become something that helps prepare me mentally--to face life and deal with my anxiety and depression. I've been drawing life lessons from rolling in BJJ and applying it to other places in life, because that's what BJJ is: it's a microcosm of the difficulty we face in life. I've learned to keep showing up in life even when I don't feel like (just keep coming back and rolling); I've learned that failing is an opportunity to learn, and there's no shame in it (tap quick and tap often); I've learned to face adversity, even when it's scary (the fact that we actively roll against someone that's resisting us, and I try to seek the bigger tougher people to test myself). It's been great. I've only been doing it about a year, and I hope to keep going until I can't any longer.
You're a wise man! I agree with absolutely everything you said. So happy to hear it's helping with with your mental health. Mental health is so important and BJJ can provide such a boost. Keep up the great work man!
Started jiu jitsu after deciding I wanted to toughen up. listened to Jocko Willink’s podcast and he recommend jiu jitsu, decided to try it out at 21 I’m 24 now and I absolutely love it compete atletas 1-2 a month an I am a blue belt 2 stripes currently. :)
Started Jits after having to stop playing Rugby due to several head injuries. It was pretty heart breaking for me but luckily I found Jits and it became a pretty good replacement! Enjoy the content! Very different from all the other BJJ videos out there! All the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
Really enjoying your content and channel, Jordan! I started BJJ because while I've always been active and enjoy physical fitness, I was both bored with traditional workouts, and simultaneously recognized a need to be more social. I'm pretty introverted and can stay at home for days and not see or talk to anyone, easy. I know that's not exactly healthy and thought this would be a good way to address that. I got three classes in and then the pandemic hit- talk about timing! Now, at 44, I wish I would have started so much earlier. I'm having a blast and meeting a bunch of cool people.
Thanks man! I'm actually super introverted too. BJJ got me out of my shell. Still takes a lot of energy out of me to be social though. Weird thing to start a UA-cam channel as an introvert lol. Timing of the pandemic definitely sucked for you! Hopefully we never go back into lockdown!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu ah, so you understand! Yeah I definitely still enjoy 'me' time after socializing in order to recharge. It may be a weird thing to start but you've done a great job with it and I know it's going to help a lot of people. It feels like you skipped the early growing pains and trial and error phases that a lot of other content creators face and went straight to the good stuff.
I started because I always wanted to start MMA and when I went through a bad break up from a 7 year relationship I decided to just go for it, haven’t looked back and has been one of the greatest decisions of my life
Beautiful roll and even better narration. Started in 2018. I train w/ an ostomy medical device on my abdomen -- was told not to do contact sports with it. Got my blue belt a year ago. My friends don't really notice it, but sometimes I tap to knee on belly.
Thanks so much for this video and it has drawn me to further explore your others...much appreciated for sharing your knowledge. My story-- wrestled in the Navy and attained a brown belt in judo about 20 years ago. But, I fell out of martial arts until I rolled into a jiu jitsu studio here in my adopted home, Tokyo, about a year ago. I'm now 51 and sore most days :>) I really appreciated a few pearls in this video, but especially to keep in mind that one arm in and one arm out is "triangle city" and the idea to maintain grips more thoughtfully (in fact, that some grips are sorta useless, and even counterproductive, is really enlightening...something i've never really considered). Again, thanks so much for your sharing and hope our paths cross one of these years...Pura Vida!
Thank you for letting me know what resonated with you in the video. That really makes me know what to highlight more in my commentary. Also really cool you live in Tokyo. Although a little younger, I'm sore most days too lol. Worth it though 💪
I randomly chanced upon your channel and ended up binging through all your videos. They are awesome dude! the breakdowns are simple and easy to understand and you took the effort to slow it down and walk us through the mistakes. Great way to help newer people improve while off the mats. Thank you!
I played all the traditional sports growing up and fell in love with the body mechanics of bjj. The ability to learn as an adult is very appealing as well. Not to mention the skill development is incredibly useful! I do bjj for the progression, the learning environment and the self defence skill set.
My best friend asked me to go with him, 17 weeks ago, now we can't get enough. We are 48 yrs old.... it's never to late. Just came across your video's. Loving them. Thanks.
Thanks Jordan, your vids are great for a 50 year old white belt that is now addicted to BJJ. Retiring toooooo early wasn't great for me. Mentally I wasn't coping well until I found BJJ. Its a continual process of improvement and a mental chess game with your training partners. I really enjoy the slow-mo roll explanations, they help to improve visualising how things should be done.
Thanks man! 🙏 Glad it can help. Good for you for starting BJJ at 50. Many think they can't but it's all in their head. Glad BJJ can be such an enhancement to your life. It is for mine too 🙂🤙
Okay last comment I'll leave, I swear.. but I really have to commend the overall editing and direction of these videos. Very clear and precise. So glad I found these!
I started Jiu Jitsu because I needed to find something that would keep me fit but also help me to find some stillness mentally. I watch this video and remember all the times I got smashed being the smallest person in the gym but it wasn't long before I started learning how to survive and then progressing from there. It's been 4 years of consistent training for me 2-3 times a week and I'll keep going. Thank you for the dope videos.
Consistency is key. Much better to train 2-3 times per week for years than go hard 5-6 times a week for a bit then quit. I see it far too often. Keep up the great work 💪 Glad you like the videos!
I started Jiu jitsu because I tuned into a live Facebook feed randomly one day of my best friends older brother (blue belt) ankle locking a much stronger guy in a super fight. I have known this guy for well over a decade and to see him go from a skinny rock band musician to such a dangerous athlete thanks to jiu jitsu was inspiring. I was sold, and I signed up to my local gym the next day. I’m 7 months in and addicted. I love no gi, gets me very excited every class. I’m still working on enjoying gi.. I feel like it will come more as I get better. Thanks for the awesome content, your commentary is authentic and possesses so many nuggets of wisdom.
That is very inspiring! Great way to get introduced to this amazing sport. Enjoy the gi will definitely come in time. Imo it's super important to do both to be the best grappler you can be. Glad you like the videos man!!
I've trained in traditional Japanese arts for over 40 years. But my grappling skills are sorely lacking. I started Jiujitsu to be a better martial arts and person. And I absolutely love it.
your tutorial style is very learning freindly no one like you on YT 👍🏼 i stared bjj & did not know what it was, but fascinated by smaller person taking on bigger person; i am skinny & a slow learner, i train 5 days a week & do it cause i have ptsd & it helps to control my emotions, discipline = freedom, self defense & kindness go hand & hand. the world doesn't need more jerks, rather loving people who are strong, vulnerable & good at applying bjj to our daily lives
Lee is going to improve at a faster rate than usual due to the direct feedback. Can't wait to see him in 9 months...I'm certain he will be rolling beautifully.
Just found your channel, that was fantastic. I started jits in 2017 for self defense and kept at it for the game aspect. Now a purple and love it more than ever.
Love this style of video + the editing, really great. I've been dealing with a 'popped' rib or torn abdominal/intercostal muscle for around 2 months now. I'm currently taking a break from class because it gets significantly worse every time I attend. I've been doing breathing exercises daily, still going to the gym as well as doing other stretches + yoga sessions to try and keep active but the pain won't subside. Do you have any advice or previous experience with this type of injury?
I wish I had some decent advice for you but I've never been injured like that. I've popped a rib once but a torn abdominal muscle sounds rough. Hope you heal up soon though man 🙏
Started because i hate who i’ve become in life, and the choices I’ve made all because of the void in my psyche from parents who were abused themselves and never overcame their own demons. Therefore never knew how to teach much of anything. No one is coming to save me, so i must do it myself. A blessing and a curse. “…Seek nothing outside of yourself”. Jocko Willink, David Goggins, Jordan Petersen, Bob Proctor, Dr Eric Thomas have become the only mentors I’ve ever had. Tired of feeling worthless, unwanted, unstable, alone, confused. And this all pushes me everyday to fail often, and profit from my mistakes. A young man trying to find his place in life. Not a pity party. We all must understand ourselves. My path is my path and i wouldnt change it for anything. GET AFTER IT, AND GETCHA PULL!!!!
Good on you for recognizing that and doing something about it. Having mentors like that is crucial. And doing a sport like BJJ is so challenging and rewarding. Exactly what you need. Happy to hear it's helped you 🙏 🙂
I started training JJ about 3 months ago and I love it so much. I’ve always been an athlete, as I played ice hockey growing up, but I wanted to learn something new and I just found JJ the most fascinating out of the martial arts.
I started from law enforcement career. I’ve been in situations I felt uncomfortable in because I never pursued the knowledge. Also wanted to reduce my chances of being an untrained cop on UA-cam that uses more force than a trained cop on UA-cam
honestly, I have dealt with chronic disease for almost a decade that cause pain, dizziness, and seizures, this has made most sports very hard. when i was 23 years old my cardiologist recommended I try yoga... but that's not really my thing, so when I saw jiu-jitsu I thought it was worth a try. Now I am 2 years and four stripes in, I have managed to gain 10 kilos and my life has improved dramatically, I am learning to trust that it can do more than I think it can instead of constantly being at war with my body. To be honest though, even though jiu-jitsu was the tool I grabbed onto, the true benefit comes from the community. I found an amazing club, where being sick has not caused me to be treated any different than everybody else. If I pass out or have to sit down, we just laugh at it and nobody feels entitled to tell me when I am ready to roll or not.
That's amazing to hear!! A great gym culture makes or breaks your BJJ training experience. Glad you belong to a great gym! Glad BJJ has improved your life so much too:)
I started BJJbecause i wanted to try out a martial art after doing sports my whole life. Tried wrestling before but BJJ was way more fun. Why I choose grappling is because I don't want to get punched hahah. I'd love to see more escapes from your rolls!
BJJ is definitely way more fun. I love both nothing beats the amount of variety and in depth BJJ can get. I'll definitely do a video soon with lots of escapes!
Jordan, please keep making these videos, I learn a ton from them. Rolling commentary = best bjj content. I started bjj because I always liked martial arts but always abandoned them after a few years because reasons. This tim I am sticking with it until the body gives out. All the best from Berlin!
Watching this with my first day as a white belt being yesterday. Thank you for the wisdom and advice. Starting JJ is on of the hardest things I have done physically but I am looking forward to the discipline and conditioning it will benefit me.
I joined an mma gym for kickboxing. I realised the jiu jitsu classes are part of the subscription so I bought a gi and tried it out. Fell in love from first sight
I've probably watched this video about 10 times and as a white belt, there are so many things to pick up but the way you explain the concepts makes it extremely helpful. Thank you so much Jordan!
Going back and watching your videos from the beginning. Absolutely love the rolling commentaries, especially with fellow white belts involved to I can see some of the same mistakes I make. Cheers Jordan!!
Thank you, UA-cam algorithm! This kind of commentary is incredibly helpful for me as a white belt. I've been at it for 2.5 years, but I had a year + off because of COVID. I started BJJ when I started karate, etc, at an MMA studio. It's incredibly fun, and it's helped a lot with making me more disciplined about the way I approach every interaction - both on the mats and in life.
I really like your rolling commentary. I like to watch as inspiration on days when jui jitsu seems complicated because you keep it simple and fundamental. I would to see some videos where you are starting from a buried position like under high mount or side control where you lost the under hook and cross face battle and have to work your way back. I really appreciate the videos. Very helpful!
Thanks man! Next video is mount survival and escapes. Features me in a lot of bad positions. I'll do a rolling commentary from bad positions soon as well 🙂
I started six years ago to train with a long time friend. At the time I just moved to a new city near ski resorts. I - an avid skier- asked my friend to go skiing with me. He said in exchange I will need to train BJJ with him. At 44 I had never trained any martial arts but tried it any way. He trained with me for about a month, submitted me once and then he quit BJJ. He didn’t ski with me either! Despite getting my butt kicked continuously that first year - I refused to quit. Over six years later I’m now a purple belt training with a great group of guys and love it. My kids now train too! Keep training! Great video too - trying that xguard entry tomorrow
Awesome video Jordan! I started jiu jitsu to gain confidence, when I was younger I got randomly attacked at a nightclub by a stranger, and ended up having to have a few stitches in my face. For years it made me feel terrified to get into any confrontation that could turn physical. Now I've been training BJJ for 2 years and feel a lot more confident in myself
Sorry to hear you were attacked like that. Glad it led you to BJJ though! Also glad it helped your confidence so much. It did for me too. Was a game changer for my life and confidence outside of the mats!
I started jiu-jitsu the same reason you started jiu-jitsu because i knew was gonna be good at it as well. I've seen the cool bjj moves in the UFC and i fell in love with it which propelled me to learn it. Although i'm only just a blue belt, i'm always learning as a student of the game
Hey man, love your videos. I started BJJ for self defense, i work as a street performer here in London-England, some crazy people showing up all the time, had many fights over the years. Now is easier to avoid fights and calm down, helped me with my ego a lot. Keep this great channel my friend. Brilliant work. Bless
Homie survives well for a early white belt! Impressive job staying alive. That’s a beautiful beginning to the white belt journey, stay alive and let the technique settle and click. My story is boring. I joined because I got my daughter into it and I wanted to have a common interest. Now we live for the journey. She moved her way up to yellow belt, has 24 gold metals, 2 pans and 2 worlds (and a couple silver and bronzes in there that irk her😂) all within a year and a half. Just got her solid yellow the other week too. I’m less impressive. I’m almost a year and a half in myself and just about to push through to the blue. I’m here to enjoy the show with my little limb hunter though.
I started because I'm 44 and not getting any younger. I had a hip replacement and saw my window closing. I always wanted to try jits so I did it. And I love it.
I started practicing bjj because i wanted to develop my physical and mental health. I needed something to commit to that was going to take time to learn and would be challenging in a good way. I just went through a tough separation when i began and it really helped me take my mind off it. Four years later, I'm still with the same school i started with and it's become like a second home for me. Really appreciate your content, Jordan. Thanks for making these videos
This is my frst comment on any jiujitsu channel: I began jiujitsu because I was bullied physically as a kid. Punched, kicked, stomped on; I once stood up to a bully beating my little brother. I was beaten up in a school bus filled with people. A year or two ago, I started martial arts, but then transitioned from Jeet kune Do to jiujitsu especially because of Khabib and the Gracies. Had my first tournament this Sunday, got second place and a stripe. Excited to be learning from you and the community here!
Really sorry that happened to you, and your brother. I was bullied too as a kid and hate to hear others were as well. I know how tough it was. Glad you turned a negative into a positive though and started training! Congrats on your stripe and silver medal man!
Shot Lee! I started Jiu Jitsu because I was invited by a friend and I needed some balance in my life. An outlet. I’ve started and am thoroughly enjoying it!
I started bjj a month ago after years of watching videos and respecting the sport and community. Same as you I knew I would be good at it. Having never been in a real fight I've always had a curiosity as to how I would fare. Bjj provides me with an opportunity to explore that in a safe, controlled manner. Sparring feels like a survival situation which I get a major kick from and despite being a PT it is the most strenuous exercise I've ever done. Your videos are the most useful and helpful that I have come across on the subject so thank you so much for your time and effort.
Thanks man! Funny I've never been in a real fight either. Only MMA fights. Glad my videos can help and if you ever have any video suggestions let me know!
I started BJJ in November of 2022 to give me athletic purpose. I previously raced Motocrosss (that's my first love) but experienced a life-threatening head injury and was forced to quit back in 2010. I have always been softly interested in martial arts starting with being a Bruce Lee fan when I was in Jr. High in the early 80s. I got the bug to try BJJ after listening to Jocko and not having MX in my life anymore. My interest in BJJ specifically started after watching Royce Gracie's first UFC win. However, it took almost 30 years to give it a try. Let me tell you, starting BJJ deep into my 53rd year of life was difficult and still is. Especially with old Moto injuries. However, I love the purpose it gives me. It motivates me to eat right and be health conscious. HOOKED
Man, I love your videos. Even as a fellow black belt I find them insightful and almost always take something away from these! I started Jiu-Jitsu after watching the show 'Fight Quest' back in college (2005-2006 ish) and the episode where they went to brazil and the Navy seal got choked unconscious by a small blue belt had me sold. It wasn't until 2009 when I finally took my first class. The move "Never Back Down" was the catalyst for me finding an academy, just sitting on my ass and watching TV and this movie reminded me that I wanted to train BJJ. Corny but that's my story. Now I'll be a first degree next month
Thanks man! I remember that episode. Back in the day I'd watch anything BJJ I could get my hands on. I had similar experience too, got beat up by a much smaller 4 stripe whitebelt and I was like, I want to be able to do that to people too. Really blew my mind. Congrats on your upcoming degree. I should get mine in March. Very exciting for us! 😁
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Yes sir! Thank you! I vividly remember my first training experience. Just off another power lifting stint and got partnered up with a stick of a 16 year old kid. I thought I was going to toss him around. I was triangled and arm barred over and over again. From that point on I HAD to know this stuff.
I started simply because I have never had an affinity for striking martial arts. I'm a bigger guy (about the size of the white belt in this video) and I remember always being in the best shape while training as a wrestler in high school. Grappling is so much fun and a chess match inside my mind while I roll. Really enjoyed the video and the breakdown, can't wait to watch more. Sincerely, A one stripe white belt
Awesome! I started BJJ the first time 10 years ago because I love the chess game & self-defense aspect. Got hooked on techniques that I learned in the Army & watching Gracie in the UFC. I had to quit due to a divorce and couldn't afford my dues and time commitment. Now, I'm starting it up again alongside Muay Thai & weight training because I remarried & got fat, domesticated & old. I miss being addicted to something healthy & feeling like I could handle myself if needed. So I'm doing a "frame off" restoration and building my mind & body all over. Love the knowledge you share. I've been binge watching your channel when on in the gym. Looking forward to more!
Great video, my first time coming across you on UA-cam. Took up BJJ hm….. 10yrs ago or more due to a back injury I got playing rugby and I was told Work on my core and asked about doing yoga or Pilates. Not for me so my friend told me about BJJ and that would work on my core. I trained BJJ during off season and it worked wonders furthermore my performance playing rugby increased twofold plus! I’ve really started training regularly the last 3yrs or so (COVID didn’t help). But I do really love it especially since I’ve retired from rugby I love the physicality of it and the hard training even at my age (mid 40) from a purple belt (journey man ha….) I love forward to watching more of your videos.
Awesome man! I love rudby. Such a tough sport on the body though. Only played in highschool but had so much fun. Glad to hear you had a smooth transition to BJJ! Thanks for watching 🙏🙂
I started because one of my friends who had been doing it for a long time talked me into it! 3 years into the journey, due to COVID and having a baby in that time I have had to take some short breaks but am loving it.
I started jui jitsu because I was always fascinated in the martial art and didn’t really understand what was going on when watching mma I had been doing kickboxing since 4 years old so I always had a passion for martial arts and was fascinated in different types as I became older

That’s awesome man hope it’s still going well
I started jiu jitsu because i was an addict.
Respect to you brother and welcome to the Ju jitsu brother hood! That takes courage !
Yah same, been sober since I started. AA is helping too. Good one ya
Glad to see you guys sharing this great sport together too 🙏 and glad you enjoy the channel 🙂
So if your son had started crack cocaine, you and wife would have followed?
This guy is a two stripe white belt?! Holy buckets! He’s pretty impressive! I hope he sticks with it… he seems to have a lot of ability and potential. 👍🏽
He's a natural for sure. Got his 3rd stripe last night 🙂
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu 3rd stripe, but blue or purple?? 😉
Seriously, congrats to him. Every step is important and significant. I hope he keeps putting in the work!
Agree, he's better than a lot of the purple belts I used to roll with.
Totally agree, this is a very good white belt👍
Did someone in the background have a yellow belt on??
I have my black belt in karate and have done striking martial arts my entire life until I was doing some film work for a new jiu jitsu academy in town and immediately signed up to join once I finished up their project, now I’m almost a year in and can’t believe I went so long without it. You’re videos have been a tremendous help!
That's a cool way to have gotten started! Glad the videos help 👊🙏
Thanks Jordan and thanks Lee - for having the guts to agree to it being filmed. This video really helped me a lot. Much appreciated.
Glad it helped! It's tough finding willing partners, so big thank you to Lee :)
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Yeh, I thought he did a great job! Very composed too
These are very good. My dream would be a series like this of white belts so we can check out white belt mistakes across the board. Its hard to figure them out unless you really study. Not easy to remember the 1000 mistakes i make vs blue belts on the mat.
Thanks Jeff! My plan is to make rolling with white belts a regular in the channel. They make for a lot of teaching opportunities!
@@xtrakewlguy666 that's a great idea. I will do that soon. Would be helpful to show new students before their first class too!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu oss!
Amen! High level rolls are always dope to watch, but anything above blue and I'm lost in the details.
Glad you like them! A great gym culture really makes or break your training. Glad you belong to a great club!
I'm with you here too, I need to make more friends and have started doing that so I feel less lonely after training and having fun!
We'll definitely make that happen! Part 2 and 3 in the future will be super cool 🙂
Awesome idea
I started jiu jitsu as part of my treatment for service related PTS. I’ve found it super beneficial but struggle at times to retain information. Stumbling across your channel has got me excited - I love the concepts you teach and find it a much more productive way to learn. Thanks for the great content!!!
Love this! Having a senior belt walk through rolls and point out what details are key is so valuable for us newbies! 👊
Glad to hear it! I'll keep making them 😊
Started my journey in 2014 after almost 17 years incarcerated.
Dude! im about to join at 38! have any tips?
@@aqueento if you have an ego, leave it at the door, and start a bjj journal, you will hold onto the information much better and learn the techniques much faster. I'm a 20 y/o purple belt and I wish I had started a journal when I was younger!
@@Rollingwithconner YO! I'm so glad I saw this. That would be valuable af. I'm about to make a diagram for my game.😂
@@Rollingwithconner just went in for the first lesson and it was amazing, no egos at all. I also went to a Gracie Barra
Great roll guys !! Really thanks Lee for being part of the channel !!!! 😁
I like the chill mood in these videos. No hysterical shouting and pump. Glad theese got suggested to me.
Thank you! 🙏 🙂
OSS!
Luv the fact that you edited the video at slower speed for us in sync with your narrating. Great job for that and thank you. I’ve really been wanting a video just like this where a higher belt is narrating the mistakes lower belts make in real time. 💯 ✊🏽
Glad you like it! I love slomo. So useful for BJJ!
Thank you Kelvin! I really think rolling commentaries in general are going to take off and my goal is to have the top ones k. UA-cam 🙂
The white belt is amazingly good for being new. Serious props to him. Props to you for being patient with him! 👏👏
Dude, these are interesting AF. To see a BJJ black belt literally tell you the mistakes you’re making with grips and positions as a white belt while he’s rolling with a white belt is super helpful.
Also, credit to the guy rolling with him. I make literally the same mistakes he’s making.
Thank you! I'm going to do some more with whitebelts. They provide some great teaching opportunities! 😁 🙏
Please do more of these videos! Pure badassdedness!! I hate just rolling endlessly over and over and not understanding what I’m doing wrong
Glad you started up again!
Thank you! I'll be doing an X Guard instructional real soon!
This is awesome! I’m scheduling my first class. The more I watch the more I know I need this in my life. Can’t wait!
Thank you! I imagine a former rugby player would excel at BJJ pretty fast! Definitely a good replacement. Thanks for the kind words 🙏
These narrated rolls help so much. Thanks!
I'm glad to hear that! My pleasure :)
Wonderful format, with helpful concepts in the commentary- instead of unconnected techniques! Thanks.
Thanks man glad you found it helpful! 😁
I started because I always wanted to start MMA and when I went through a bad break up from a 7 year relationship I decided to just go for it, haven’t looked back and has been one of the greatest decisions of my life
Awesome man. Way to turn a negative experience into a positive one. Not easy to do! Especially after that long of a relationship.
Beautiful roll and even better narration. Started in 2018. I train w/ an ostomy medical device on my abdomen -- was told not to do contact sports with it. Got my blue belt a year ago. My friends don't really notice it, but sometimes I tap to knee on belly.
Glad you're still able to roll and work around it. That's really awesome man. If there's a will there's a way. Glad you enjoyed the video!
As a white belt, this is really cool to watch. It’s helpful to see the differences between you two in the same positions. Thanks!
My pleasure! Glad they can help 🙂
This is really great! Learned a lot
I'm now 51 and sore most days :>)
I really appreciated a few pearls in this video, but especially to keep in mind that one arm in and one arm out is "triangle city" and the idea to maintain grips more thoughtfully (in fact, that some grips are sorta useless, and even counterproductive, is really enlightening...something i've never really considered).
Also Lee nice job man! You did really well.
I started jujitsu because I felt like I needed something to challenge myself
Awesome reason! 🙂
I randomly chanced upon your channel and ended up binging through all your videos. They are awesome dude! the breakdowns are simple and easy to understand and you took the effort to slow it down and walk us through the mistakes. Great way to help newer people improve while off the mats. Thank you!
My pleasure man. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you like it!
Wow that was beautiful to watch. This stuff actually works! (I say that as a whitebelt)
Thank you!
Oh my days!! That double armbar at the end was absolutely EPIC!!!!!! Jeeeeez! Levels to this!!!
So cool eh! I'm going to try and hit some more unorthodox techniques to try and blow people's minds 😅 Glad you like it!
I played all the traditional sports growing up and fell in love with the body mechanics of bjj. The ability to learn as an adult is very appealing as well. Not to mention the skill development is incredibly useful! I do bjj for the progression, the learning environment and the self defence skill set.
It really is. There's not many sports adults dive into like BJJ. There's so much to it and you never stop learning. It's really amazing.
Exactly the same for me.. it’s incredible. I find it extremely spiritual too.. more connected to life and the beauty of it. Or maybe that’s the weed 🤣
My best friend asked me to go with him, 17 weeks ago, now we can't get enough. We are 48 yrs old.... it's never to late.
Just came across your video's. Loving them. Thanks.
It really is never too late! Glad you started 👊
That’s my first time witnessing a double arm bar at the end. White belt mind blown
Haha so cool right? I'll try and hit another one soon 👌
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu

Haha good idea!
It is for mine too 🙂🤙
Love these videos Jordan. I find them super relaxing. THey are fun to watch. MAYBE I'm learning something too. Just maybe though. THansk!
Thank you! 🙏 Relaxing is exactly what I'm going for 🙂
Okay last comment I'll leave, I swear.. but I really have to commend the overall editing and direction of these videos. Very clear and precise. So glad I found these!
Thank you! I put a lot of effort into them 🙂🙏
I started Jiu Jitsu because I needed to find something that would keep me fit but also help me to find some stillness mentally.
BJJ is just the best 😍
your tutorial style is very learning freindly no one like you on YT 👍🏼 i stared bjj & did not know what it was, but fascinated by smaller person taking on bigger person; i am skinny & a slow learner, i train 5 days a week & do it cause i have ptsd & it helps to control my emotions, discipline = freedom, self defense & kindness go hand & hand. the world doesn't need more jerks, rather loving people who are strong, vulnerable & good at applying bjj to our daily lives
Lee is going to improve at a faster rate than usual due to the direct feedback. Can't wait to see him in 9 months...I'm certain he will be rolling beautifully.
Definitely!
Just found your channel, that was fantastic. I started jits in 2017 for self defense and kept at it for the game aspect. Now a purple and love it more than ever.
Awesome! That's one great thing about BJJ, great for self defense but also so much fun for the sport aspect :)
Hope you heal up soon though man 🙏
Your editing is next level. You document like a technical communicator. You're awesome, man - this is suepr dope stuff.
Thanks man. I really liked seeing this comment. Made my day! 🙏
Awesome man! It's always easier for athletes to transition to BJJ. I played soccer my whole life then switched to BJJ 🤙
I started from law enforcement career. I’ve been in situations I felt uncomfortable in because I never pursued the knowledge. Also wanted to reduce my chances of being an untrained cop on UA-cam that uses more force than a trained cop on UA-cam
Very smart. Being a cop is a tough job even with martial arts training. I can't imagine without. Good on you for keeping yourself safe as possible.
honestly, I have dealt with chronic disease for almost a decade that cause pain, dizziness, and seizures, this has made most sports very hard. when i was 23 years old my cardiologist recommended I try yoga... but that's not really my thing, so when I saw jiu-jitsu I thought it was worth a try.
Very good content and voice overs. Calm voice, music isn’t too loud, and the pace is just right. Your channel will grow fast!
Thank you! I hope so!
The best lessons ever! I'd say I'm a newbie but I haven't even started yet. Keep'em coming. This helps.
Watching this with my first day as a white belt being yesterday. Thank you for the wisdom and advice. Starting JJ is on of the hardest things I have done physically but I am looking forward to the discipline and conditioning it will benefit me.
That's awesome man, I hope you keep going! BJJ is great for the mind and body.
Hey man you're going to blow up. Seriously some of the best bjj youtube content I've seen, great work and thank you.
Thanks man I really hope so! Been working my ass off to get here. It's really starting to pick up now!
That's awesome Jose, I'm happy it was of so much help to you! Keep training 🙏
Going back and watching your videos from the beginning. Absolutely love the rolling commentaries, especially with fellow white belts involved to I can see some of the same mistakes I make. Cheers Jordan!!
I appreciate that man. Glad you enjoy them. I love making them! :)
Thanks man! 🙏 Glad it's helped you off the mats too. BJJ is such a great enhancement to life 🙂
I really like your rolling commentary.
Also thanks for the John Wayne sweep.
Thanks man! Next video is mount survival and escapes. Features me in a lot of bad positions. I'll do a rolling commentary from bad positions soon as well 🙂
Doing that choke the transition to mount was sooo smooth
Thank you 🙏👊
Such a great video. It's so helpful that he is pointing out the good and the bad and keeping general themes.
Glad you enjoy it 🙂
These videos are such a great learning tool, the commentary really helps. Along with watching other drill breakdown videos on UA-cam.
Thank you! Plus they're fun to make 🙂
I started six years ago to train with a long time friend.
That's a really cool way to get started! Too bad your friend never stuck with it. He's missing out!
Completely addicted to your videos. Cant thank you enogh!
Happy to hear that :)
Man I’m impressed with your instruction and attention to detail. Awesome stuff!
Thanks man! A decade of doing my best to perfect my craft 🙂
It shows. Keep on keepin on Brother!
Bless
Thanks man! BJJ gave me the confidence not to have to get in fights too. What kind of street performance do you do? That's super cool man. man
Homie survives well for a early white belt!
Glad you started! It's the best. Such a great addition to life!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Thank you. You inspire so many people like me who have gone through the crucible of a painful childhood. Thank you.
I started BJJ because I was introduced to grappling from taking Jeet Kune Do concepts. I was hooked ever since . I love it !
As soon as I hit the mats I knew this is what I wanted to do too! Glad we both found BJJ! 😁
This is legit some of the best made jiu-jitsu content on youtube. I hope your channel grows fast. I'll be shilling it for sure.
Thank you!!! 🙏
HOOKED
That double armbar at the end was amazing!
So cool eh! Glad I went for instead of just the one arm. Made for a good ending!
Sincerely,
A one stripe white belt
Thank man. Glad to help you in your BJJ journey 🙏
Good you on for realizing you need to make some changes and get back to it! That's amazing man. Glad you like the videos 👊😁
Great video! Always learning and banking knowledge from them. Thank you!!
I'm glad! 😁 Thanks me pretty for the videos lol
It's the best! Glad you're still able to train even with a baby. Definitely makes it tough. We have 3 kids and life is not easy lol
I started jui jitsu because I was always fascinated in the martial art and didn’t really understand what was going on when watching mma I had been doing kickboxing since 4 years old so I always had a passion for martial arts and was fascinated in different types as I became older
