    This video by Julia( I assume) is the first instruction for me that showed really what goes on in those two jumps. Most people just show their demonstration with minimum explanation. She explained the crucial key points of how the toe picks are used in the jump step by step and how mistakes are made which is a great instruction requirement. The video angle, close up, motion speed and repeat are perfect for instructional purposes. I learned in 5 minutes from this video which I could not learn in years. I am a senior adult learner who just started. It means I just don't have much time to put in all those years of ice time to learn anything. Trust me. All those hundreds of instructions on youtube are not quite an instruction but a demonstration. Thanks, Julie.
    If she keep making video this way, I am confident that I may be able to spin and jump before too long, a small one I mean.

      @@CoachJulia Hi, if you do accept any suggestion on future video instruction, at some time I would really love to see how the bunny hop can nicely help introduce to an waltz jump or half flip( are they the same thing?) No one so far can explain why bunny hop is the first step to the waltz jump.

      Guess what! I just did my first bunny hop successfully for the first time. Your tip on left foot takes off with toe pick and make sure to land on right toe pick was the crucial key. I fell before because I tried with no toe pick take off and land on edge. You make sure to pointed out.
      No one explained that before surprisingly. They just showed an example.
      Thank you. I am building my confidence in bunny hop these days.

    I remember doing bunny hops in figure skating lessons as a kid, and we probably did tap toe jumps too. I also remember crossovers, spirals, two-foot jumps and spins (and attempting to combine the two, with mixed results), and trying to learn 3-turns, although I couldn't really do that well. But, if I tried any of those tricks now, I'd probably fall and break something.

    I just learned the bunny hop which, at 31, was kind of terrifying. (Look, I'm old now, and I don't want to break my first bone after I made it this long.) I had a really hard time learning to rock onto my toe pick while my free leg swung for momentum--I spent a solid ten minute while my coach was busy just gliding forward and rocking up onto my pick while I hugged the wall. I wish I'd started with the toe tap, it looks so much easier. >o

    Can‘t believe how much we learned in only 1 year through your videos.
    I remember in January we were still using rental skates and could barely make a round without falling and now trying to learn this just feels amazing !:) Thank you so much, amazing content Julia ! Even our coach follows you on social media:p
    I have one question about the jumps in general, when you go on your toepick to get ready to take off, do you lift your foot at hit the toepick into the ice or is the foot rather staying on the ice the whole time and you tilt your foot from the gliding onto the toepick ? Looking around 2:13 in this video how you move the left foot but hard to tell on video!
    Thank you so much !:)

    Hi Coach Julia, I recently started to pick up jumps. Your video here is super helpful! ❤ One question: When you say toe pick, does this refer to that one usually catches the ice easily, or the entire zig zag portion of the blade? 😂

    • @CoachJulia

    I struggle holding strong balance with backward one foot glides because I feel like I am wobbly on the rocker. I think I need to skate more on the heel. I need to get more comfortable with backwards one foot glides so I can learn the three turn. Could you post a tutorial on the three turn and specific help with the glide backwards on one foot?

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown Рік тому +1

      You may indeed need to put more weight on the heel, but backwards skating is not done with the weight on the heel. Instead the weight is focused on the ball of the foot, aka the rocker of the blade. You will not make good progress if you are trying to focus the weight on the heel. That said, depending on what exact move you are doing there's going to be some weight on the heel. Some moves may require substantial weight on the heel when moving backwards, but in general when skating backwards the weight goes on the ball of the foot.
