Jono teaches you how to do one of your first advanced jumps, the 3 jump.
The 3 Jump is a key fundamental Jump to learn on the ice, it's a building block for more advanced moves you will learn later on.
Understanding and practising correct techniques are very important and will help you avoid developing bad habits.

@@IceCoachOnline : like how to do lobes on back inside et outside edges for ex ; backward crossrolls, 2nd push on backward crossovers..:)
@@totoff92 thanks for letting us know. We'll work on getting some videos like this released 👍
Thanks you very much! I can't afford a private coach so I'm taking grouoal classes and as I go to many public sessions I have a higher level than my classmates. This helps me a lot to keep learning new things and hopefully upgrade to the next level classes
This is exactly why we wanted to start this channel! Good luck with everything
Yesterday we started with these in practise, i love to do them on and off ice. Your videos help me improve small things i haven't learned and what to expect from the future!
We're happy to hear you're finding the videos useful. Let us know if you have any questions!
I can't count how many times I watched this video. Thank you so much.
We're happy to hear you you're finding it useful.
Thanks for posting these vids. I'm getting back on the ice after taking a break for a few years so I've been trying to jog my memory of how to do these jumps
You're welcome! We have also been posting a lot of off ice content recently that can help you prepare for when the ice rinks open up again!
I'm finally getting back on the ice after taking a few years off and so far things are coming back. I'm also one of those people that jump to the right. Thank you!
Oh, so you too !
When you do other jumps, do you always jump to the right or does it depends of the jump you're doing?
I'm sorry if my question is confusing, I'm trying to do that with my inline skates of the ice, but I've never learned with a teacher...
Thank you. Very detailed and clear lesson :)
Thanks for the feedback! We are happy to hear you found the video beneficial!
I watch your videos every morning before going to the rink, just to make sure I know at least a little what I'm doing :)
We're happy to hear you're finding them useful! If you have any questions, let us know :)
Jono is the best!
Well done. Easy to understand. Thanks
Glad to hear you found it useful 🙂
Thank you, I never knew to use the toe pick.
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear you found it useful!
Same! Figure skaters usually go so fast that when they land it looks like the blade is landing flat..but no, there's a breif second where the toe pic lands in the ice first then the foot follows and the blade flattens 😊I was astonished to learn this!
Did those when I was a teenager 25+ years ago.
Getting back on ice for adult skating. you think I can do these again?
I could die happy if I could successfully pull this off!
😂😂 You will be able to land this is you work hard!
Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the jump. I’ve practiced the waltz jump since more than a year ago, but it’s still small. I just have trouble getting a real lift from my toe pick. I noticed your left thigh goes up after the toe pick left the ice. I find it hard to do, too. I wonder if I just don’t have enough explosive power or strength in my legs. Or, it could be the coordination. I find it much harder to lift my right thigh in taking off on ice than off ice. Any suggestions?
I get stuck or frozen when I'm gliding toward the waltz jump take off. Maybe a timing issue? But I find I either rush it all or glide and feel stuck. Any suggestions?
Great tutorial, thanks!👌 if you start learning this and landing on two feet, should you land on the toe pick then also?
Yes absolutely! Hitting the toe pick first will soften the landing (provided you are landing backwards). If you land on the flat of the blade, it will send more of a shock though your joints. You should try and land toe, then blade!
When you land, do you land on the toe pick first?... Is there any jump you'd land on a flat blade, actually?
you land on the toe pick first and then the rest of the blade comes down after. my coach got me to practise jumping on two feet on the spot first and landing on your toepicks, then the blade before trying it with proper jumps
Everyone I see doing this at the local rink look like they're landing on a flat blade but, when you look at when he shows the jump in slow motion you can see that his landing foot is pointed and the toe pick touches down briefly before the typical flat outside edge backwards landing position that you actually see/really notice (unless you are really looking closely).
I'm surely glad that the toe pick is technically correct to touch down rather than just the flat blade as... Well, you've just jumped and turned in the air and now are landing on ice on one leg on a blade that is relatively thin compared to one's body... Without using the pick, certain jumps could be landed theoretically, this half-rotation jump more easily I suppose. But, it would be so so easy to slip over, especially once you start jumping higher and or with more rotations!
He goes into detail about so much, breaking down each stage, it does seem like an oversight that he doesn't mention what the landing foot does, just the landing position - you'd think as the first proper jump you learn (moving on from bunny hops and toe taps) that landing safety would be mentioned?
LAND YOU YOUR OUTSIDE EDGE NEVER ON YOUR TOEPICK
@@evabarri6324 After watching this video, I pestered my coach about it and asked one of the competitive skaters who comes to the rink. Both of them described it as landing on the toe pick, then checking out onto the back outside edge in a seamless motion.
Forgive me, but I'm going to follow their advice. Especially since I've flubbed a few times and come straight onto by blade and nearly cracked my kneecaps from the resulting falls.
Excellent 👌!!! Great thank you 😊! 👍🇷🇺
another mistake (that's my case) is to jump solely at the expense of the free leg, without the toe pick
Did anyone try to do it with hockey skates?
It can be done in a hockey skates! But be aware that it is much harder than in figure skates.
I have seen Jono land many double jumps in hockey skates when he was seeing if it could be done, but it wasn't easy! - Lloyd

What's with the BENT KNEES? This jump should be taught with throwing the free leg straight into the air and the jumping leg lifts off into the straight position...in the A position.
wrong, it's an h position hence the bent knee
