    i've watched so many off ice jump exercise videos and i've NEVER seen one that explains the arms so well or has slow-mo portions so i can actually do all the moves! thank you so much both of you, i was so confused on how to move my arms for my toe loop but (other than the weight transfer part that i still need to figure out) this is going to help so much!!

    Hi Julia! My coach does most of these off ice exercises with my group and they have really helped me with the rotation and height in jumps. Do you have any tips about tieing up skates? I am still trying to learn even though I have been skating for a while, there is always a gap between my leg and the skate and I pull it really hard, but sometimes it's still a bit loose. I love your videos! 😊

    Got back from the rink. Checked in at 2pm, checked out at 10pm 😊 (but the last 3 hrs were spent at the sidelines watching my kid’s session)
    Anyways, I mixed in this jump exercise around zamboni time, and I must say it really helped improve my jumps. My other coach was quite surprised with the progress. I’m at loops right now and started getting full rotations at a higher rate. But of course there is room for improvement; I’m not crossing my legs mid-air. But this video has a routine for that part. So I know exactly what to do next time I’m at the rink. 💪
    Now, if only I can get over forward scratch spins…

    Oh this looks helpful, even if I'm not to jumps yet. Can you do one like this for spins?

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Рік тому +1

      I do have several off-ice videos about spins using a spinner, as well as a bosu ball video focusing on balance for spins. But I will certainly think about what else I can do to help with spin improvement - off ice.

    I love this. I started inline figure skating and i notice that my ankles are not strong enough to stand straight. So my feet lean towards the outside edges. How can i improve that? I think i need more ankle strength?

  • @mimisolo7778
    @mimisolo7778 Рік тому

    I'd say it's really important to do all these exercises rotating both ways because you don't want to get lopsided and make sure you're always landing on the ball on your foot so you can get that nice soft landing on ice

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Рік тому

      You can! If you would prefer though, you could mix it up between a jumping warm up and a stretching warm up.

  • @egniib8021
    @egniib8021 Рік тому

    This is awesome. I've been doing off ice a lot lately and this is just what I needed. A question: with rotation I tend to get really off axis/balance. Just can't make the full rotation yet. If I do I tend to fall. I see now that this is probably my arms which throw me off. Is it smart to stick with 3/4th rotation and focus on technique first? Or just keep trying the full rotation directly.

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Рік тому +1

      Definitely start with less rotation and improve technique. As technique improves, your ability to control rotation will improve.

  • @Catski0
    @Catski0 Рік тому

    I know I gotta do these off-ice exercises. Sadly everytime I try, always end up with some degree of sprained ankles, so now I only jump on-ice😔 generally do full jumps rather than just the warm-up though...

  • @jrg305
    @jrg305 Рік тому

    So I have heard a cracking in my ankle that made it swell up like I sprained the medial ligament, but it went away in about a week. We were doing jump 360 and landing on one foot. I'm pretty fit but this isn't my first sport and I'm 36 and only been skating about 3.5 years. The coaches who typically are young have the kids in our group classes doing these exercises, and I find them terrifying. The ankle isn't meant to twist and land on one foot as an adult. When you're a kid and you aren't even 100 lbs and have all that cartilage, maybe it is different, but if skating coaches want to teach adults, this is a big deal and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had an ankle injury shortly after starting off ice to work on building up to my axel.
    On ice, you have a nice stiff supportive boot, the ice slips or you fall, or it chips, which are all way less serious if you know how to fall compared to being off ice with no ankle support in tennis shoes or barefoot, neither of which support the ankle on a twisting landing on one foot.
    You see some ice coaches doing little hops, but that didn't help me.
    Perhaps they should encourage at least all off ice exercises landing on two feet and adults wear ankle braces or maybe do harness or foam pit (go to a trampoline park or a gymnastics gym) or diving board work. The harness didn't fit across my chest either, and I'm 5'10 180 pretty low body fat (

    How many times should we do for each exercise?

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Рік тому +1

      It depends on how you are using it. If it is a warm up before skating, do one pass of each move. If you are doing it as an exercise session then repeat each move 3 ish times across the space you are practicing in.
