  • Welcome! Do you ever have days when you don't want to measure or think too much? This project is very forgiving. It can be as wonky or as measured and even as you like! In this project example I did not feel like measuring strip widths of my scraps, so I just sewed them on wonky! And that is sometimes the best.
I am using up almost the last of a great old mid-century sheet set I found last fall at a sale! I will probably get one last project out of this set. It's really gone a long way!
Do you have an old sheet set around? Do you have scraps lying around, or want to clear out some stash? Take those old sheets, cut them into strips (whatever size YOU choose!) and make something remarkable... AND ... remarkably FAST AND EASY! This fast & easy project can be done in a day. Strip Quilt Blocks have been around a LONG time, but the possibilities are endless. I was happy to be able to save some old sheets from the landfill! I think the blocks are SEW CUTE! I hope you try this out YOUR way!
    MY PROJECT TIME:
To get my finished blocks (I have not finished the quilt top yet) I have spent 5 hours so far. I estimate another 2-3 hours to sew blocks together into a finished quilt top. So a very easy to achieve quilt in a day project.
    MY MEASUREMENTS:
Sheets were cut into 4" strips
Various scraps were cut haphazardly into more strips. I didn't measure widths on the scraps.

Hi Annette! Quite frankly, almost ALL of my sewing these days is no measure, no think. I got so tired of all the demand for accuracy it became not so fun and relaxing. Now I mostly make crazy quilts because you can just sort to colors, make a pile you like and grab scraps and sew. It is more relaxing for me and the quilts still come out looking good. I did just buy a book called East Quilts West by a Japanese lady that has some gorgeous quilts with just a few templates I may take on. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for your comments Paula. There are just some days when I need to just sew! Obviously some of the things I do (FPP birds) require precision, but when it's time to relax it can be such fun!

Totally agree Paula! Nothing wrong with using new (or old) techniques and tools that can improve one's accuracy and skills, but I swear I roll my eyes at all the UA-cam quilting gurus who are OBSESSED with "perfection" or try to sell you on the latest gadget or other (like a strip tube ruler, when a regular old square ruler with a 45° line will work!). Sometimes you just want to lose yourself in the creative process and not worry about whether or not you're achieving some sort of standard of perfection.

I like that you create different color groups first. The viewpoint of sewing the strips end to end with one edge being straight is something that I enjoy doing. Liz in Houston

Hi there! I have been making little dog blankets with crumb blocks and an old sheet on the back. I just put the video up. Good idea to actually use the sheet and cut it up though. I put the end bits of the sheet I used into my “light” scrap box.

I love it!!! After a lifetime of "precision" sewing I've always admired the wonky carefree quilting. I've wondered how anyone could possibly sew so crooked, there was no way I could be ok with that. I recently found your channel and am enjoying your videos immensely. I recently found 100% cotton sheets and duvets at 2nd hand and am getting ready to go wonky!! I just cant do any polyester content .... yet! Thank you so much for sharing ❤
