been there had over a hundred sample books all free and still working through them so far i made winter window quilts for my entire house and some small carpets with underlay and denim and some dog covers for their mats with the heavy fabrics+ fly nets with the sheers now moving onto the lighter fabric and came here for ideas 👍🙃
Marvellous. I recently made a bunch of pieced outers for tote bags using shirt fabric samples. Fortunately someone else had removed them all from the books, so I had the fun of stitching them together. The results are mighty. I lined them to give the bags strength and used op shop braid for the handles. I so enjoy using sample fabrics to make unique things.
I used drapery samples and cut into five inch blocks, sewed them together and added home made doilies scattered intermittently. I love it used mostly light beige and ivory
Bonjour. Pas simple d’assembler ces tissus épais mais vous avez trouvé la solution, j’ai hâte de voir le résultat final, qui sera sûrement très réussi avec le biais blanc… Travaillez bien et à bientôt. Régine 🇫🇷〰️〰️
Annette: wow this is fantastic! I love how you had a challenge arise and you tackled it😝. The way you started out I thought you were going to zigzag the squares; then add the white later🤔 But they really turned out great. I’m looking forward to what’s to come🥰. ❤️😀
I think I would have staggered the blocks so they were off set ... cutting off an end block and sewing it on to another row. This would make a great QUILT AS YOU GO project.
I wonder if you had taped them with iron sticky tape before sewing? If your sashing had been a dark fabric you would not have been able to see through it. Just a thought. Your work is beautiful.
Good idea! I have a box of fabric sample books. The individual samples vary in fiber content--cotton, linen, poly and various blends of cotton, poly, linen, and rayon. Some are upholstery samples while others are drapery or drapery/upholstery. Did you enounter this variation and cull/sort by fabric content and weight? I'm concerned that squares of different fiber content would behave differently when washed. Also, the upholstery samples are much heavier than the other two types. Seem too heavy and stiff for a quilt. Your thougbts?
I would be concerned with the coating that is on the backs of the fabrics. Does it break down with repeated washings? Are some of the fabrics dry clean only?
My fabric samples appear to be washable fibers. I might make a small quilt first using a variety of fiber contents to see how the different samples behave when washed. They do have a label glued to the back. I've been told the label peels off easily when heated with a hot iron.
None of my samples say "dry clean only" but I can't imagine anyone laundering their drapes or scrubbing their furniture with detergent and water. I'll be curious to see how washable they really are.
Just love it. I have a lot of drapery fabric that I inherited when my son and family moved to Southern Texas. I now know how i will use it.
That is awesome!

Great ideas!
Love reusing things like this. Great idea!
Thank you! 😊
and they make great covers for my swing chair outside i recognise some of the fabric you have from my sample collection😁
Oh cool!
You could a pretty fabric ribbon with a simple design down the center. Love what you have done so far!
Great idea! ☀️. Thank you! ☀️

☀️ That's great! I enjoy keeping anything I can out of a trash bin! ☀️
I look forward to seeing the finished quilt!
☀️ Thanks! Me too! ☀️. Since there are 3 of them, I may try out three different colors on the faux sashing.
These look amazing! Can’t wait to see the end results! Such a good idea to do a mini tester quilt first. 👍🏻😊 Deb xx
Thanks so much! 😊 I'm hoping for sometime in August to get them done!☀️

Oh that sounds really pretty!! ☀️
So glad to see this because i was recently given lots of curtain and home decor fabric and was wondering about using them for quilts
That's great! It wasn't my favorite project, but I am glad to keep it out of the trash! ☀️☀️☀️
❤ beautiful. Thanks for showing us the process. Hugs
You are so welcome! ☀️

☀️ Merci Regine! J'espère terminer en août. Je mettrai à jour alors.
What an innovative idea. Thanks for sharing
☀️ My pleasure 😊
Please show us the sashing and quilting process. Interesting.
Thanks for your comment! ☀️. I'll definitely post a follow-up when I do the finishing steps of this project!

☀️ Indeed it would! Thanks! ☀️
What weight of thread did you use?
☀️ I used a 30 wt cotton, and a big needle! ☀️

☀️ Thank you so much! I am leaning towards a bright color, like a turquoise for the faux sashing! ☀️. stay tuned!

I would try a mini quilt and see what happens! I’ll post after the project is completed and washed. My fabrics ARE mixed. ☀️☀️☀️

think it would have been easier to first wide zig zag the fabrics together and then add the tape?
Yes!☀️☀️
