Great Vid thank you. I did last week to my 2WD Slash. One thing I did differently was on the pro-line body mounts I used the rear poles in front and the front poles in back. This allowed me to get the front end level with the back end and because I raised the front a little higher I did not have to do any trimming on the front of the body. My truck look INSANE!
Just converted my son's 2WD slash using the pro-line body mount kit and Stampede Talon tires. Kept it brushed with stock gears (16T pinion/90T spur) and it's still awesome. Much better in taller grass. Thanks for the tip.
The tires used in this video have been discontinued. As an alternative, these newer Pro-Line Trenchers feature the Raid wheel with removeable hexes, and work great. Just be sure to use the wide offset hex when assembling the wheel: www.amainhobbies.com/proline-trencher-2.8-tires-w-raid-6x30-wheels-2-m2-pro1170-10/p985707?v=873802 -Brett
You can run the Canyon AT tires on a Rusty vxl. Just use the Traxxas 17MM Aluminum wheel adapters. Put the wide ones out front and the narrow ones out back. You will need to flip the front body post upside-down then mount the two posts on the top. For the rear add the 2WD Slash rear body mount, and then you will need to ream two new holes in the rear of the body. Gear it around 12-90 for 3S. It's quite the machine running the 7" tall tires and floats on water, but you need to add black electrical tape. If you are going to play in the water! This will keep the water out and the tires always running balanced...
It definitely needs a 14 tooth pinion ! I have the 2wd & 4x4 done Monster. Much more beneficial in 4X4(especially in winter) It goes almost anywhere. The 2wd...Not so much. Put 2.8 paddles and skis in front on 2wd! Then you will have an AWESOME snowmobile in the winter!

nice video, if you want the diff to stop unloading all the time. just add a bit of diff puddy from racers edge and a few drops of shock oil in the diff. the diff now will work like a limited slip diff and there will be no more one wheel peels. i use this in my slash diff, it works a treat. great for wheelies 😉😉😉
no problem, this motor system can handle 3s. i run 3s in my slash and it has the same motor system as this. Temps are 65 degrees when i run 3s, and 55 when i run 2s. its crazy fast on the 3s pack, its a must try : )
If you swap the differential out for the Hot Racing Sealed Differential. It will solve all the issues for good and save your motor and trans as well. Cheap at $25-30.
On my opinion, only if u plan to go full rage offroad, upgrade arms and knobs, shocks and springs, undergear and have a brushless system than go for it. If u like racing on tracks even smaller ones forget sharp and precise stearing and control at high speed. Again your chassis will bounce more and get less slaps but the arms , shocks and the electronics will pay the price
I did that to my brushless slash a few years ago, but I didn't switch out my motor or any electronics. I also just raised my suspension and I didn't raise the hood. my hood was already cracked pretty bad so I cut off the rear fenders and it worked good. it performs way better than before I did it. if you have a slash I would recommend trying this!
@RC Daniel Hi RC Daniel, I did it on a 2wd slash, you should be able to do it on the lcg chassis without a problem. I'm not 100% positive about the 4x4 arms and whether they will be in the way to do it. I'm guessing that it would be fine, but that's not a guarantee. In my slash I kept the VXL motor and reciever and I haven't had any problems with overheating, if you did start to have problems after the fact you could always gear it down to a slower but more powerful ratio
So many things I had to upgrade once I went to the 2.8 trenchers. Had to go from mid level steering servo to top end titanium gear steering servo. All the force of hitting an object kept breaking the gears. I also run 3s on the same castle system in the video. Had to change the gear ratio to a top speed set up, too much torque and more grip from the tires, all the car wants to do is wheelie and I don't feel like installing a wheelie bar. If running 3s, need to upgrade to steel drive shaft, all the torque just snaps the plastic. Just switching to steel yokes doesn't work. The plastic just breaks elsewhere. Before switching, I already had pro line shocks and numerous aluminum parts in the places that need stronger parts. Now that I am fully upgraded the car is amazing and can go even more places than before. I also run a Low CG chassis so there was more trimming to the body than required in this video.
@@zedorda1337 I initially built the truck for top speed prior to putting the bigger tires on. That's why I have a low CG chassis and a 3s battery, otherwise i probably would have kept the original chassis and the 2s battery would definitely remove some of the torque. But i like speed and i've learned to actually use the throttle instead of just hammering it. I got it up to 73 MPH before aero just flipped the whole thing. From there i put bigger tires on and had to keep lowering my gear ratio to remove torque. So i definitely have a particular driving style. I'm not around much dirt, so i just bash on any surface i can find.
@@ryanstevenson3671 I just got a used 2WD Slash roller with a Castle Motor and Hobbywing esc that I was going to convert to no-prep drag car but I like your setup better. I found a Monster Energy Drink edition Slash 4x4 for $200 brand new. Is that a good deal or should I stick with what I originally wanted in a Rustler or E Revo?
Cyclonex1CA ca yea I actually bought it and immediately sold on eBay. Giving me funds to buy a Slash Platinum edition, with EZ peak charger 2 Lipo batteries and a Spektrum DX4C radio for a whopping $75.. I was able to mouth piece the dude cuz the tires were shot and needed new drive shafts in the back. Also got the e Revo 1/16 scale nothing wrong with it, 4 batteries and everything else for a vape I payed 40 bucks for and vape juice I didn’t even use, and now last but def not least my Rustler VXL I got off eBay with tons of upgrades for like $280-$300 or something like that, this thing was bashed bad I had all kinda screws backwards, dirty AF, tires were shot and body. But I’m fine with that cuz I wanted to make my own body for the Rustler. Also got 2 traxxas LaTrax rally cars with an onyx 245 dual charger, tons of batteries and a whole toolbox full of good tools for rc cars and extra parts, also had 2 brand new in touched bodies to customize and 2 little HPI cars you can charge from your radio. Got all that at a garage sale for $100. But I have a cool vid up with my e Revo. It was a crazy jump idk how I landed. But I plan on making vids about my Rustler on what I can do next or better to improve my car. Sites like craigslist are amazing
Isaac Lyons I got mine from someone selling locally. I got lucky cuz that one I was talking about fell through and found another one. I’m selling it. But not for $200. Let me know if you’re interested. I can post on eBay or whatever to make you more comfortable
Help me understand where I find the nitro offset for both front and rear tires pls. How do u change the offset and is there a video that shows this been done. Also, did u need to change the hearing ratio because of a temp issue. Cheers in advance of ur reply
Forgot to add that you might want to upgrade your drideahafts to the heavy duty ones, because of the bigger tires and extra power the stock ones will rip out eventually.
Hello Matmarr21. Yes, you can do this conversion to the Slash 4x4 but you will need the Pro-Line Extended Body Mounts for the Slash 4x4 (PRO6087-00), not the Slash 2WD. With that minor change, you can turn your Slash 4X4 into the Monster Slash 4x4! Good luck. -Brett
I traded cause I kinda didn’t like the driving experience, and now the rustler 2wd is a project car on my UA-cam channel: Rc U.S.A. But then i do plan on getting another slash in the future
I have a set of duratrax sixpack mt's on mine. Insane grip..... I also would like to know as to what nitro offset to use for the front end. I assume the nitro slash
Where do I find the part that helps it from rubbing? I didn't catch what it was called and don't see it on ur parts list. I'll be ordering this truck in the next few days and would love this set up. Thank you so much.
I used the Traxxas front offset wheels for the F and R. You might want to buy those RPM offset eliminator A arms for the front also. If not sure what Im talking about Google "RPM 70554 arms".
Should I do a video on how to do the Traxxas Monster Slash 2wd with both front and rear Jato A-arms? I'm not experienced doing videos but I will if people want. Unlike others, I have my rear jato arms facing the proper direction and I figured out a driveshaft solution that works and lasts with minor expense. I won't take it apart to show step by step instructions but I'll show what I did and explain.
We didn't have to modify anything. We may have trimmed the body a little to clear the tires at the extreme steering angles but that's it. With the extended body mounts, it puts the body so high they clear 99% of the tires. -Brett
It's fine to use your current motor, there is no need to upgrade that with tires. You can add any compatible tires on your R/C with no need to change your electronics. One thing though: when you use tires of a bigger diameter, it changes the gearing slightly for the car, so you may need to drop a tooth or two on your pinion gear, just to prevent your motor and ESC from overheating. -Brett
Although this castle creation set is for a monster truck build Because of the size of tires. Can I still use it if I choose to go with the stock tires and rims? Well i get more speed Because of less tire weigh?
Set my Slash up like this. Only a few differences. First I used VXL-3s system. I upped my gearing significantly. I'm running a 86T Crown gear and a 24T pinion. I also installed a fan onto my ESC. With the original tires the slash is almost uncontrollable. With the new ones this thing is a beast. I do reccomend switching up your shock oil for a bit more stability. My next addon for this truck will be the Proline FloTek body and roll cage(for bashing) and a Desert Eagle body( for show)
If I were to do this with proline bad lands instead of the trenchers, would you still recommend the same offset? Ie nitro rear offset for both front and back?

AMain Hobbies thanks for the advice. The dude is backing out selling me the Monster edition Slash. So Revo it is I guess
Yes that is a good price. Sounds too good, but I got an E-MAXX for $120 and just needed a new chassis.
KaYoTiiC CAiiN KaYoTiiC KRiiT, where did you find it? I want to get one of them!
Isaac Lyons I got mine from someone selling locally. I got lucky cuz that one I was talking about fell through and found another one. I’m selling it. But not for $200. Let me know if you’re interested. I can post on eBay or whatever to make you more comfortable
Can I do this to a 4x4 slash?
AMain Hobbies thanks bro
AMain Hobbies what if my slash has a brushless motor
Monster Slash conversion is for the 4x4 and not the 2WD. It is just for looks on the 2WD.
Ya I did it
Can I do the same to the Ford raptor with out replacing the motor??
I was wondering what lipo battery you are using?
I have those tires on my Ecx ruckus. Great tires!
Help me understand where I find the nitro offset for both front and rear tires pls. How do u change the offset and is there a video that shows this been done. Also, did u need to change the hearing ratio because of a temp issue.
Cheers in advance of ur reply
If you use stock stampede tires you can use stampede rear arms and have the wheels line up just like the stampede
Oh shoot ima get those tires for my slash looks nice 😍
Forgot to add that you might want to upgrade your drideahafts to the heavy duty ones, because of the bigger tires and extra power the stock ones will rip out eventually.
is it possible for 4x4 slash?
Hello Matmarr21. Yes, you can do this conversion to the Slash 4x4 but you will need the Pro-Line Extended Body Mounts for the Slash 4x4 (PRO6087-00), not the Slash 2WD. With that minor change, you can turn your Slash 4X4 into the Monster Slash 4x4!
Good luck.
-Brett
Thanks so much but you’re a huge help because that/4 x 4 looks awesome
You are very welcome! Let us know if we can help you more. Thank you Matmarr21.
-Brett
ok thanks so much for all the help
I have a traxxas slash 4x4. 😊
. I'm considering putting it on wheels 17. What do you say?
Looking to build one of these out of a 4x4 vxl slash. For those of you out there that have built one up, was it necessary to change the pinion gear?
Yes, especially with the 4X4. You'll want to experiment with lower gearing to prevent ESC & Motor overheating.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies and ideas on suggested gearing??
The manual shows a 54/13 for a box stock VXL 4X4 so I would try a 12 or 11T pinion gear and check your temps after use.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks
I had one, it was nice. i traded it for a rustler 2wd
How come you traded?
I traded cause I kinda didn’t like the driving experience, and now the rustler 2wd is a project car on my UA-cam channel: Rc U.S.A.
But then i do plan on getting another slash in the future
I have a set of duratrax sixpack mt's on mine. Insane grip.....
I also would like to know as to what nitro offset to use for the front end. I assume the nitro slash
Hi!
I have the standard Velineon 3500 brushless motor. Can i use it or i need to switch?
AMain Hobbies nou it heat up. My standard gear is 23, 86.
What can i do?
Cyclonex1CA ca
yes to hot
I drive with a 3s lipo 5000 mah
Can you put a nimh in the truck to?
How much more powerful is the new motor you installed? Does it make a big difference with the top speed and acceleration?
Yehhh bombastic 👌nice
This video made me want one
Where do I find the part that helps it from rubbing? I didn't catch what it was called and don't see it on ur parts list. I'll be ordering this truck in the next few days and would love this set up. Thank you so much.
I've used Bigfoot tires which look amazing on the slash
Wouldnt the electric stampede. Front and rear offsets work well too?
treadway47025 i actually just got the electric ones today and they rub on the suspension
I used the Traxxas front offset wheels for the F and R. You might want to buy those RPM offset eliminator A arms for the front also. If not sure what Im talking about Google "RPM 70554 arms".
Is this possible on a 4WD Slash?
Should I do a video on how to do the Traxxas Monster Slash 2wd with both front and rear Jato A-arms? I'm not experienced doing videos but I will if people want. Unlike others, I have my rear jato arms facing the proper direction and I figured out a driveshaft solution that works and lasts with minor expense. I won't take it apart to show step by step instructions but I'll show what I did and explain.
Do u have to modify the body for the trenchers to fit? Thanks
I guess you also do this setup with the 4x4 ?
Yeah, really easy to do except it needs the 4x4 extended body mount set from Proline, not the 2wd version.
-Brett
Do you know what size the offsets are I can't seem to find them ?
How about a Nitro Slash 2wd? I’ve been blowing clutch springs for not having enough tire grip lol.
You need a wheelie bar. Lol. But nice job! Looks almost as tall as a stampede! How far is the chassis off the ground?
Can you do this with a 1 10 scale slash
Yes
I did the same upgrades. But the transmission got hot. Motor didn’t. I need to change pin and spur?
6 years late to the party lol but will thos mounts work for the nitro version?
Will the trenchers fit on the car without any modifying?
We didn't have to modify anything. We may have trimmed the body a little to clear the tires at the extreme steering angles but that's it. With the extended body mounts, it puts the body so high they clear 99% of the tires.
-Brett
I'm assuming this would be possible on a 1/8 slash correct?
Do you have to change the motor when using the bigger tires or can I still use the stock motor
Well i get more speed Because of less tire weigh?
hello I have a question and if I change the slash 4 × 4 to monster truck is it necessary to change the motor?, or why did you change it?
Wouldn't you want to change the gearing as well to account for the larger tires?
You bet. We mentioned this at 6:05 in the video.
-Brett
So we need to buy the same PRO1170-12 tires/wheels for the front as we did the back?
Looks like tons of fun, and that stance is on point! Thanks for sharing guys.
My next addon for this truck will be the Proline FloTek body and roll cage(for bashing) and a Desert Eagle body( for show)
Not really. I have thought of installing a Integy fan. So far no need. I did need to add a wheelie bar.
I put a body lift on on my rally monster and I'm not sure if they will still rub
If I were to do this with proline bad lands instead of the trenchers, would you still recommend the same offset? Ie nitro rear offset for both front and back?
Thank you so much for the quick response!! Amain is awesome.
Did and should you change the battery
How much did this cost you because i really like it and im just wondering because i have one oif my own
Took a similar approach with a 2wd rustler it rips
Can u do this without the electronics
The screws for the screw on mounts always come off when I flip over I’d weather keep my pin mounts and put on a bigger body
We know what you mean. Maybe try a dab of loctite on the threads.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies ok
My man , could you put bigger tires than that on the Slash?
You probably could but the truck would really need to be geared down on the motor pinion gear to ensure you don't overheat the motor and ESC.
