    So, in summary, the slash is great... once you replace everything except the front A-arms?

    • @traxrc

      For the brushless model yes. For brushed it's different because less power. A lot of the parts I said in the video are to make the transition from brushed to brushless easier because most people do that swap.

      Cool! You'll love your Slash!
      I didnt include suspension in this video because this is for the brushed model. Idk if that's what you have though. I made a video specifically for the brushless model because it breaks more easily. With the brushed model, the suspension isnt a major weak spot. You may break a thing here and there, but nothing major. Glad you enjoyed the video dude! 🤘

    Put an RPM front bumper on it and drive it. If you've got the money, put long GTR shocks on the front and xx long GTR shocks on the back with Tekno ET410 springs. Other than that, replace parts as they break. When you want to go faster upgrade to 3s brushless. Continue to replace parts as they break. Nobody seems to break the same stuff.

    In my experience the only thing that you need to upgrade is the shock caps. Tires work fine, non lipo will be good for a year or so, don’t get lcg chassis if you jump it a lot, and don’t upgrade the shafts if have a brushed model, they don’t have enough power to break themselves, save your money and get a metal spur gear.

    • @traxrc
      @traxrc  4 роки тому

      Shock caps are the biggest one for sure! In our opinion the tires are bad. We used them for a year when we got our first Slash and once we got Badlands we didn't realize how much they would change the characteristics of the truck. The LCG chassis for us is a must-do because we like to go fast, and the stock chassis isn't great for that. You can get buy with the plastic shafts on the brushed model but once we stepped up to 2S we broke them more frequently. Although the metal spur is more durable, we like to keep ours plastic because on a hard impact it will strip instead of ruining an expensive metal part. Thanks for watching!

      The only reason why we included them in this video is because most people with the brushed system upgrade to brushless, and then you need them. Also, it saves money in the long run because you will never have to worry about them again.

  • @erikm2003
    @erikm2003 4 роки тому +2

    You don’t need to upgrade drive shafts if you have the brushed motor. My suggestion would be to get the velineon or castle brushless right after the 2s battery. The stock driveshafts last quite along time with the brushed motor.

    • @traxrc
      @traxrc  4 роки тому

      We agree with you! However when we bash our brushed Slashes we brake the driveshafts. It isnt a major weakness but it happens. They wear out over time though with all Slashes, and dramatically reduce the performance after a lot of use, witch also leads to them being more fragile.

    • @erikm2003

      No the 3000mAh NiMH battery will last a few years at least, but it has less runtime than a 2S LiPo, and loses power throughout the run. With LiPos, the speed is constant the whole time and when the battery dies, it cuts almost all power from the battery.

      Yeah we always thought that a Slash was durable when we first got ours but when we progressed in the hobby we realized that it wasn't. • @traxrc
      @traxrc  3 роки тому

      We don't strip spurs that often but every once and a while we do. If you set the mesh good it's not a problem. But most of the time when we strip a spur it's because the pinion moves on hard landings, or rocks/sand got in the gear case. We've seen that Traxxas sells peices that stop the motor from moving and give you perfect gear mesh.

      The brushless model has more power and can run on 3s LiPo. Personally, if you are wanting a 2wd and are even considering going with the brushless model, I would save up and get the Slash 4x4 brushless because it handles the power so much better. You could save a little and get an Arrma Senton 4x4 3S, which is the equivalent to the Slash 4x4 VXL, just much cheaper and needs almost nothing. The Slash 4x4 VXL will need at least metal driveshafts. But, if you want to stay with 2wd and Traxxas, I wouldnt get the brushless Slash 2wd. It needs way to much done to it to hold up to the brushless power. By the time you upgrade it you can get something like a Traxxas Maxx or if your like me, an X-Maxx, which hadn't come out yet.
      I hope this helps :)

    • @mooker6327

  • @charliemaybe

    The traxxas batteries are both double the price of other batteries and not as powerful at the same time ie, the traxxas batteries cost around 80 a piece for a 3s and a pack of two really good 3s batteries with more power than the traxxas (look at the cc rating) will cost around 65. The chargers are so over priced just get a solid charger for 80 dollars instead of the 130 that the traxxas costs.

    • @traxrc
      @traxrc  2 роки тому

      Again, I agree with you, but this video is geared towards beginners that don’t understand how complex charging a LiPo battery actually is. The Traxxas chargers completely eliminate the extra steps, which keeps everyone safe. I think that this is very important for new hobbyists.

    • @traxrc
      @traxrc  3 роки тому +2

      If you build a monster slash, then you will need the LCG chassis more than ever imo. It will dramatically reduce rollovers caused from raising the truck. Also, the LCG gives you more clearance in the front so that the front tires cannot rub on the chassis during a hard impact. Idk if that is a good or bad thing, but that is what will happen.

    I have an older Robby Gordon edition 2wd slash. Can I still run 2s lipo? It runs off NimH right now.

    • @VikingDudee
      @VikingDudee 3 роки тому

      Yes, you can run a 2s lipo just fine, you will need a new charger, Do not use the charger that you charge your nimh batteries with, that could/will result in a fire with lipos. And make sure you set the ESC to lipo mode, you can't run lipos all the way down to 0 or they can be damaged or worse, the ESC has a built in "Low voltage cut off" that will slow your truck down a lot once it gets to that point, get the truck back to you and unplug the battery and put it on charge, do not keep running it when its goes to low power mode. Lipo batteries are no joke if miss treated.
      To enable the Low voltage mode on your truck, turn on your transmitter, then plug in a battery and power it on, the light should be red with the nimh battey (Low voltage is off) Now press and hold the power button on the ESC for 10 seconds, the light should turn green, indicating that Low voltage mode is enabled for lipo, this will keep it from draining the lipo to much.
      Now if you want to run a nimh pack again, turn the transmitter on, plug a battery in and power on the truck, and then hold the power button down for another 10 sec's and the light should turn red. It may even vibrate or make noises when you set it to either mode, I can't remember if the XL-5 ESC's do that, that would be normal.

    Ok, i get when people say upgrade that, upgrade this, but why do it if my rc still runs great? Like why bother changing things and spending money if nothing is broken yet? I agree with performance related parts, but not suspention or others. I just order some spares before something brakes and only then replace. Why bother buying 50 $ metal hub carriers if i brake one pair once a year? Just replace that 5 dollar part once a year and save some money for motors or batteries. Just my opinion. Thanks for video

    • @traxrc

      I lot of it is preventative and if you change out a power system for more power, that puts more stress on certain components so it's a reason to upgrade. Also, Most RC's have very poorly designed/weak parts installed from the factory and those should be swapped immediately so that you don't have issues.
