5-Year-Old Boy With Autism Says His Own Name for First Time

- Micah McGuire, a five-year-old boy from Ashville, Ohio, brought joy to his family when he said his name, and the names of family members, for the first time.
As an autistic child, Micah was considered to be non-verbal until a few weeks ago when he overcame all expectations and said names for the first time.
“He has spoken a few words before, but it was all once in a blue moon, always random and he would never do it again,” his mother, Haley McGuire, told Storyful.
She added, “He is now repeating almost everything we ask, helping to sing songs with Mommy, and starting to repeat sentences like ‘More, please’ and, ‘I love you.’”
“We are over the moon as Micah as officially gone from non-verbal autism to pre-verbal autism.”

You can see in his eyes that he's really trying to get the words out , it won't be long until he's speaking full sentences! Good job little man!
People don’t understand how much this means to a family with an autistic child! Hearing my son say “momma” for the first time was so exciting and emotional! 😮💨🙌🏾❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I have 2 both were non verbal till around 4. Absolutely the best feeling in the whole world hearing mummy for the first time!. They both attend special needs schools and are learning more and more everyday now at age 5 and 7. My whole world and more xx
I also have a brother who is like this and he is 3 years old
It's great to see this family cheer every word and name on. And look how excited he is.
tears to my eyes as a father of an autistic child i know how much this means to one. i pray to god one day i can hear my son call me papa . may god bless your child and family you’re lucky
Awww I know the feeling! Mine is 22 and we cheer him just like that every time he accomplishes something, funny thing is he reacts just like that cute boy 😔😊
I don't have anybody in my family that's autistic, but its good to cheer them because if you don't, they won't continue what they are doing because they think that thats not what they are supposed to do, so if you cheer them, they can understand that why they are doing is good.
I can't for my my son to learn to speak like this adorable boy too.. He is 4 now and still non-verbal.. I'm so happy for this little man.. 😍💕💕
My son also. But never give up Nezza. I pray for our children. But this boy and his family give so much hope. I am so happy for all of you 🥰🥰
My son turned 4 a little over a month ago. He is still considered nonverbal, but has said some words here and there. It's just not consistent. God willing, our children will be able to communicate verbally soon.
Never give up ❤
Hi sister, nezza blessings how is your son he is speaking ?
Beacuse mine 4 still he could not statr speak
@@samigarnett2 Hi sami blessings how are you doing, just I want to ask you regarding to your child, he started speak beacuse my child is 4 still he could not statr
I will never forget the first time my grandson, with autism, said his first words. The memory still brings tears of joy. I wish your family a life full of happiness.
We gotta give the entire family credit. They did a great job for teaching this adorable kid!
God, thank you for this wonderful little boy...
He’s so proud of himself too!! Congrats little dude. We’re cheering ya too!
I’ve never ever seen a child that is so similar to my autistic son. They even have similar voices.😭🥰
Micah as of 2024 is speaking full sentences now
Literally makes me so happy and proud! 😢❤
My 3yo daughter hasn't spoken yet and is being diagnosed at the min this is absolutely brilliant well done that kid i think were all cheering for him 👏 😀 👍
This is so beautiful and made me tear up. Its an amazing experience to watch things like these as they are big milestones for an autistic child.
My 7yr old has High function ASD, he can talk and have eye contact but struggles with comprehension and socializing with kids same age as him can be a challenge.
He has a bright future ahead! These are true milestones and you can build upon them for a great life. I speak from experience. Enjoy the now and the wonderful future ahead!
Keep helping him to move forward and master more skills. Sometimes it can be tiring and repetitive, but it is worth it. Your child can grow up to live a more independent life even after you pass away. My child is an adult now, and is living a quasi-independent life with family determined community supports. It is possible.
May the Lord guide you and your child! Don’t forget Christ’s love is there
I have High Functioning Autism, I can talk, but I have learned through My Teacher in High Schools persistence to make eye contact most of the time, I still struggle with language comprehension I was told recently through a Neuro-Psych Eval for Vocational Testing that I only can comprehend language up to The Ninth Grade Level & I'm 30 years old & I will be 31 years old on June 21, 2021, I still somewhat struggle to socialize with people My Own Age, I have a friend Around My Own Age who has been My Friend since 3rd Grade, she's married with 2 Kids now & she invites me to her Wedding\ Wedding Reception, Kids Baby Showers, her Kids Birthday Parties & I have had 4 Successful Jobs including The One I have now, The 1st Job I had I got through The Local School District's Vocational School for Students with Disabilities it was labeled as being a Student Worker which was being a Very Basic Office Assistant with The local school district's Human Resources Department, then I worked at Sea Work as a Sales Clerk I got a good word put in with The Higher Ups from One of The people I worked with at The Local School District's Human Resources Department and it was also at Sea World where I also got job coaching from The Local School District to start out with, then I worked at Six Flags as a Retail Team Member & now I'm a Substitute Teaching Assistant at The Local School District & I graduated from Community College with 2 Associates Degrees, One in Liberal Arts & One in Psychology & I graduated University with A Bachelor's of Arts in General Studies with an Emphasis on Psychology.
As the father of a non verbal autistic toddler, this video gives me some hope. Thank you for sharing it. I notice almost identical behavior in Micah as I do my daughter. The hand flapping when he’s excited is exactly what my girl does. He also puts his knees into his dad’s chest when he picks him up. My daughter always does that. I can tell this dad turned it into a little game by flipping him over. I’ll have to remember to try that when she’s a little older.
Hang in there! My son is almost 12 & has autism. He spoke very little (one word answers) & couldn't hold conversations. He has come leaps & bounds over the years. He still needs a lot of support, but he's improving all the time so i have high hopes. I'm so proud of him. 😊
He has probably wanted to say these names for so long and finally he's able to ❤
omg this is so awesome. and i have autism and it took me a long to to talk. my dad said when i was 4 i talk for a moth or 2. then when i was 8 i talked again then 15. now i cant stop.
Damn thats tuff jacob
He is adorable
The way they continue to hype him up after he says each word.. Tha's real support 💪
This just makes my heart smile to see him so proud and excited for himself.❤️❤️❤️

this is so sweet i also feel like his family congratulating and celebrating just fuels him to want to say and learn more words and phrases :)
Their celebration of his accomplishments is worth more than hundreds of hours of therapy. Bless this family whoever they are. We love and support you.

As a mother of a non verbal 5yo this melts my heart. When you hear the odd word you doubt yourself because hearing their voice doesn't happen often.

May they have faith in the Lord! Don’t forget Christ’s love is there
My son is 2&1/2 years old and has not spoken a single word but he is yet to be diagnosed.
My daughter is 5 and she just started repeating words.. always practice and have patience.. he will get there..
Here is a great start always PAUSE at a word you want him to say... start by slowly saying READY SET GOOOO.. when you say the word go say it in a goofy exciting way.. when he get excited with it the say READY SET but dont say GOOOO. Instead make a stuttering sound like you cant get the word out... then he will want to say it for you.. encourage him to say words that way... I know the struggle..
❤❤❤❤
Jesus christ please make my boy talk..i pray 🙏 Very fine video
He will talk. You dont know me but believe me. Have a nice day, take care.
