Looks nice, but shouldn't you remove the vinyl siding beneath the ledger board and make sure it is fully flashed? I have always heard that you should never install a ledger over siding. tia

Interesting they choose not to respond to this. This is not the correct way to attach s ledger board.

Correct, this would not pass an inspection and would need to be torn down and attached to the "structure" of the house.

Came to the comments to say this. Never imagined a ledger installed over siding. Thats not code round here. Maybe they live in Texas…the only free state…and the only state you can sandwich siding between your ledger

Can you attach railing to the Pergola post ? Are they structural ?

Hello John - Our fiberglass columns are structural columns. Attaching railings can be done and will be sufficient from an overall stability/safety standpoint. We sometimes recommend blocking the inside surface of the column shaft with PT lumber to give the screws something more to bite into.
The biggest potential issue to be aware of is that railing systems are evaluated and approved for code compliance as a system and our fiberglass columns are not evaluated as part of the system. So the inspector could have discretion. Lastly there can be an inherent amount of movement with any freestanding pergola and that may cause issue with the local inspector. Their perception might be an issue as part of the approval process.
