I’m 49 and have the day off work tomorrow. I’m headed to Berm Park to hopefully get some air and have fun. I only started trying to jump last year even though I’ve been riding for years. Keep it up BOBO, you’re motivating all of us to try harder.
Old at 40?? Girl, please. I'm 61 and shred so much harder now than ever, rippin with guys 1/2 my age..
Best grandpa ever lol
Lol nice 🤘
Ha, ha!!!! I'm learning to jump too! And I am a girl. Ok, not a girl, an old lady. 61 years young. I love freaking out my grandkids! You're a youngster Bobo!
This video is me exactly. I can clear a line of TTs with speed, but not with pop. I could totally relate to your bunny hop woes too. I know that's a key for me and I don't practice the skill enough.
I'm one of the few, the proud, and the cool people (who don't know the name or tune of 1 Taylor swift song!) ✋️🎉
@debbiegrooman5800 That's awesome. Age is a number, not a limitation.
"Girl, please." lol
Learning at 63, rode with a 75 year old, John who hits the jumps. Definitely harder to break bad habits the older you get.
Truth
Don't crash 👍
That first jump you slow-mo'd, you honestly did awesome. The only issue there was timing. You were basically jumping off the jump 2' before the lip. Essentially bunny-hopping over the top of the jump instead of using the jump lol
Just needed to adjust timing so your legs are fully extended when the rear tire hits the lip. That's all!
The really cool thing about dialing in the timing, is that you no longer need to go as fast, which in my eyes, makes jumping safer! You're kicking a$$!
BTW, I was the photographer on the clapped out YT Decoy at that Kolo jam 😂
Another oldie here -53.
I was on a trail with my daughter recently and came across a table-top jump. I told my daughter to wait by the jump and watch. I cranked all I had. My daughter said, "Dad, your tires never left the ground.". 😂😢
Lol
Trouble starts when my wheels leave the ground. At that time my mouth only makes words that are all vowels. (65 yrs)
AT 39 (and like 10 months) I decided I would learn to wheelie before I turned 40...41 now and I'm almost there :) My wife sees some kid in the city wheelie for blocks and says "he can do them better than you" and I just remember that I have lots of learned habits I have to rewire in my brain.
Jumping doesn't require an awesome bunny hop because the lip does most of the work. It does require good timing and avoiding squashing the lip.
Very true!
started riding at 37. turned 41 yesterday. went from 0 experience to hitting Fort Hill and loving it. def worth the effort. :)
Comedy and keeping it real at the same time is rare, appreciate you man
Thanks dude! Trying to keep it fun and somewhat informative 🤘
I'm 37 just learning to ride in my 3rd month and have fallen a few times trying jumps. This was such a helpful video especially the slowmos you guys rock! Thank you 🎉👏🏽
So glad to see this video. Turning 53 and learning to jump on a bike during the summer and on skis in the winter. There have been some significant crashes on the skis last winter.
I recently had the same journey. Felt like my jumping had gone backwards in the last 10 years. Andrew Neethling took me out for a coaching session and that was next level. Still have loads of practice to get it perfect, but definitely more comfortable and confident on the jumps.
Learning to jump properly takes time! There are many things happening fast for very short time! Main advice I could give is to learn how to lift front wheel then rear wheel! Connecting them both next would be the body position, which is very important! You have to move in a "L" shaped movement to get a proper Bunny-hop! Safe riding everyone, I hope I helped! 🤘
I love this, 43 myself and just purchased a dirt-jumper. We have a great pump track in town and I am memorized by the jumping going on! I have never intentionally jumped a bike, this video is super helpful. Fingers crossed!
That square space add was HILARIOUS. SO FUNNY! good job with the song. I am not that good at rhyming...at all. Oh, and you're getting better...keep at it!
Im 51 and still struggle after 20 years of inconsistent mtb riding. I do think riding with buds or tag along the kids that can help too. Great video and good luck Bobo !
Being a hardcore 1990's MTBer I was fearless . Me at 48 years old in 2024 , I like to stay on the ground . I'm in great shape and still capable but wisdom tells me that my bones break easier than they used to if I crash. If I have broken bones , I can't ride for 2 months as I'd rather be able to ride than sit on a couch 👍
I hear ya dude, I had an all rigid GT Tempest back in the 90s. But now when I go out and ride if I’m not hitting big jumps, I’m just not having fun. It’s quite a conundrum… Hit big jumps, and have fun and risk going to the hospital, or don’t ride at all? Getting old sucks lol
I swear I just saw this guy jumping on GMBN, guess that was a stunt double...
I have the same problem as U . I'm 52, a bunch of my friends are bad ass jumping. I can jump the small shit no problem. When the jump gets bigger and steeper my fear of injury takes over and I case all the big stuff. Ironically I do pretty good with drops...those won't buck ya OTB.
It is what it is brother B.. enjoy your ride and keep giving us entertaining content.
Thanks for supporting the struggle. Much appreciated!
🤘
Jumping is a tough one. I think the psychological component needs to be discussed more. Look at it this way: the majority of riders that are TRULY good at jumping, started when they were 5-8 years old. At that time, the neural pathways in the brain are still developing and they're developing with jumping a bike being normal. However, if you come to jumping later in life, your brain isn't happy about it because, I'm convinced, it sees it as you hurling yourself through the air on a projectile. Everyone talks about how they "squash" jumps and I respond with "no shit, you're supposed to." It's your brains way to keeping you alive. You said it yourself, you rely on speed. Well, the first thing you need to do is SLOW DOWN to a speed you can be comfortable not squashing the takeoff. It's literally that simple, but it's EXTREMELY difficult.
60's still learning to jump. Only been MTBing for 2 years now. It's very fun.
I feel this. Not being a confident jumper really holds me back, but being in the air is also when I have hurt myself the worst. I wish I had a park like that nearby to session!
Thanks BOBO, I'm still working on it myself, 57 and still chasing air. Appreciate you bud
Don’t give up 🤘
still young so long as your can jump your bike 🤘
Amen 🙏
I'm 42. Love hitting jumps. Learning to click Tables and throw a Can Can! Next for me is learning to hit those 30 and 40ft gaps. Keep it up. If the body is willing you can do anything you want.
Hell yeah!
Awesome content ❤
Great tutorial. I actually needed this cause I jump the lip too early. And seeing this it makes way more sense and now I have something to work on. Thanks bobo and TBOG
🤘
I started riding bmx bikes never really got me very far but I loved the pump track and it helped me on mountain bikes so much just knowing the basics. As my dad and some coachs would say its all about mastering the basics and thats how people become professionals
Having the right size bike makes this soooo much easier (most of us ride a bike too big)
I love that while the world burns there are so many of us 40yo men trying to jump their bikes in the woods. There is a light
What can i say ? the video spoke for its self dude 💙👍🏽frickin cool
32 year and I’ve been really hitting the jumps as of late. Had my first couple bikepark trips this summer and realized that if I wanted to get the most out of em next time I needed to fix my poor technique. It’s a shame old habits die hard 😅
Glad to know that I, also 41, is not the only person that struggles at jumping. Thanks for sharing the method of progressing through a jump
Im 41 as well but 20 years ago i did bmx background thats why i progress faster than some guys that been riding years out.
Grab a parking lot. Put a stick on the ground. Use it to bump your back wheel off. Your front wheel should miss it through the pre load and manual, and rear tire only makes contact when popping off and bunny hopping. Teaches timing and engagement for keeping the front wheel off the ground.
I like it!
You’re ahead of BK and he’s had several training sessions 😂
Hell yeah man. Ill be 48 in November. I used to hit huge jumps and gaps until a 15 year break from biking. Ever since I got back into it jumping fucks me up. Clearing the table top at the end of the Beech Mountain runs was a huge day for me. I still can't jump though so I just ride tech stuff instead.
Hey guys and gals… I love it when I see
People trying things outside their comfort zone! To me, doing this is what keeps us young! Well done to anyone giving it a go! I’m 57 and still learning (check out my series on doing some of the biggest jumps in NZ) to learn new stuff, I believe, keeps us young! Keep on learning and recording your learning! By recording g it you get to watch it over and learn again but we
Also get to learn it and watch it over again! Stay young people and be kind to each other with your comments!
59 here , you feel old at 41 😂😂😂
Yeah 40 that’s just a kid I’m 62 and still shredding. I thought you looked good . 💪👍
Thanks!
Yea dude nice job on this video. More like this please. It was helpful and entertaining.
Started mtb 4 years ago at 52 now 57 and hitting 50 foot jumps
I’m 55 and my “jumping issue” is exactly what you addressed in this video.👍😉
I just turned 43 in September you give people like me hope Bobo ! 😂🤘😎🤙👏👏👏
🤘
Robo fucking Bobo is back at the game, not being ashamed to show he is not a world class MTB trick jumper like most of us. Sick dude, just keep doing what you are doing. Lets Gooooo!!!!!
Dude, I got 10 years on you and I’m still learning how to jump. I see other dudes air the sapsuckers out and me I speed jump them.
Somewhere i heard an awesome tip which is to actually preload my frontend/fork in order to jump higher... mb this helps someone
Started riding @52 (thank you covid!) Riding more now than ever, everything is a progression in life too, and the more you want something the more you'll keep trying to accomplish it. Keep it up Bobo, you aint old!
🤘
58, still building and sending it. Lets Go!
Its not just you Bo. Manual to hop practice over manhole covers riding down my street helped me a ton
🤘
Wife kindly bought me a tutorial session for my 40th, worked on Bunny hops.
The day after was my birthday and 'd lost use of my left arm just from that amount of work it'd never done before.
More recently I've been at the local jump park where you can get in 50 or so laps in an eve and one night it just clicked, wasn't good but I was now clearing the jumps easily.
Had a few injuries since then and been off the bike and I'm not quite back there yet but once you click it stops being hard as you throw effort in and start using technique.
Im in the same situation. 40, and still cant bunny hop properly. I switched from clips to flats this season after 27 years, because it was obvious after a class i had created bad jumping habits. So im currently working on bettering my skills. Unfortunately I broke my elbow in the Alps last week, so progress will have to wait till i heal.
Haha T Bogg grinding you from the beginning. What are friends for!
I decided to learn wheelies and stuff last year. Tore my MCL pretty much immediately.
In fairness, that could happen anytime and you’re probably gonna get less injuries, the more skills you have.
More like this!! I am going to be 69 in November Bobo and still jumping! Going to practice bunny hopping tomorrow!
Looks like its all about standing perpendicular to the surface of the jump (correct) vs standing up perpendicular the earth. I struggle with it as well. Doing it correctly feels like you are going to loop out.
at 3:18, aside from all the other points you made, one super important was left out: Your timing is off. If you look at where you reach your full extension, it's before even your front tire has reached the lip, where it should be when your rear wheel is at the lip. It feels odd but you will most definitely feel it when you get the timing correct.
Lol, well, you covered it later in the video. I'd still, forget the bunny hop, it's definitely not needed to have ton of fun in the jumps, focus first on pushing your timing later until you actually push the extension when your rear wheel is almost at the end of the lip.
🤘
I’d like to say a few words about that song Bobo wrote… definitely would’ve given Blink a run for their money in the early 2000’s 😂
Great video man!
Bobo I'm 57. You are just a child. Seems like a lot of older dudes in the comments thinking you are pretty young also. Thanks for the video. It's gives me stuff to work on.
LOL the frustration is real...trying to improve my jumping at 60, making the same mistakes as you !
I'm an intermediate rider and 46 this year. I have done more jumping than ever before this season. It really helps that a lot of trails and jumplines have been built here in the Twin Cities. It's easier than ever to get a bunch of laps in. The only difference between now and when I was younger is the advil intake after sessions. ;-P
well exactly my problem! I think im quite fast on my bike and i can handle sketchy drops and technical sections pretty good and i'm also somewhat good doing bunny hops but man do i look goofy on jumps!
Lol same
the most honest how-to bike video I've ever seen :D
We specialize in the truth around here! Lol 😂
I like the training videos... thank you!!!
🤘
Actually a really helpful video Bobo
Hell ya my dude 40 year old jumping 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
You're a certified youtube star now, son! Just saw GMBN's feature on you.🤭
I have exactly the same issue except doing it in my 50s. If I have plenty of speed then no problems. When speed is hard to come by it is case time.
It's always the damn bunny hop/manual... I'm about to turn 51 and when I was 25 I could bunny hop my bike over a 24" log. Now I can't do it if my life depended on it.
Time to hit the gym and NOT the kitchen.
About to turn 58 here and I need to heed my own advice!
Lol im 51 and im going to backflip my bike i am now building my own ramp and just bought 2 airbags , hell ya im doing that , had a major crash on A-line this summer . Jumping a medium jump is not like jumping big jump, different technique , i learn the hard way nut its not my first crash neither my last 😝. Been biking for 5 years and im riding bike park i want to ride proline . Who knows mayby rampage for my 60 🥳
Great video !
Thanks!
Right on👍 I
I‘M 64 and pulling the kids along😂😂 Not slowing down!
pretty fire
Holy crap...that TS commercial could be a Super Bowl commercial.
awesome
I struggle with jumping as well and am 32 and riding for 3-4 years now . Hope to get good in it once I hit 40 :D :D
You can do it!
I’m 53 and still trying to improve my jumping and riding skills.
For full suspension jumping make sure your rebound isn't too fast or faster than the front/rear. You don't want an unbalanced pogo stick when you're trying to get more pop.
🤘
I can boost tf out of a jump that's pretty small and doesn't need much speed but the timing becomes difficult when they get bigger
😂 Lol …… 40’s ? Try it at 57 ! Thanks BoBo , it’s all your fault . You and your vids are what inspired me to start mountain biking . It’s become an out of control obsession . I’ve done a lot of fun things in my life and this is by far one of the best . Thanks for changing my life for the better and another reason to drain my checking account .
Lol glad I could help 🤘😂
Ia there a direct link to that Square Space ad?! I gotta link it to send to my buddy! 😅
I'm 52 and when I was about 48, after years of riding, decided it was time to start leaving the ground...still working on it, and TBH, have a long way to go. But doing it! Loving this video and these comments!
I’m 45 and just purchased my first trail bike
You need more leverage on the bars. Get risers bars.
Ill be 55 iin December.....the struggle is real
Least you started at 40. . . at 55 it’s a struggle
Ebikes, man.....ebikes. :)
I watched you today on GMBN and i thought 🤔 i like to laugh i love ebikes perfect thats a team a can hang with so i joined team BOBO,😂
Nice 🤘
Dude, I'd love to jump like you. I'll be 50 next year and can't jump for shit.
You should train drops also, for those there is no escape. Biatch, i learned bunny hop at 41 and the only thing was too practice a lot and the correct video 😂
Lol
Use a 2x4 to work on your timing.
Hi , From Norway Mate !! I love outdoor sport ,On snow or dirt .Mountain or sea .
NEVER TOO LATE TO A MOUNTAIN BIKER !! JUST GO AND RIDE !!
By the way I am a 60 ++ MTB Fanatic 🤙🤡
Lol awesome 🤘
Bobo having a kid so now he's entering AARP 😂
46 and learning and LOVING IT! (and female)
41. Damn kids!
And i thought im too old to start with this as 29 yrs old.
Does TBogg have a refrigerator or 1989 RCA tv in his pocket?
I’m 40 and used to bmx till my lower 20s and would love to do again but now I live in sand hills and it’s just to much process to get clay brought in and such
It's not about aggression... you need to let your front wheel come up before you pop. Should feel like your're jumping the rear wheel off the lip. You're not using the whole transition. After you get it figured out, do a video with BKXC. Dude drives me nuts riding around everything on "the best trails in the world"
Ha ha! He rives me nuts, too! In a funny way, lol!
Neil did a good manual video on gmbn a few yrs ago if you need it 🤣
Ps your jumping is way better than mine and I built Blake's D.I.Y manual frame
