I'll be heading to Bentonville in October with a primary focus on conquering "Drop the Hammer."
To prepare for this challenging feature, I have outlined a specific training regimen that includes the following elements:
    - Practicing on the free ride drops at Slaughter Pen
    - Lower Mad Hatter drop
    - Drops on Cease and Desist
    - Progressively tackling the smaller two drops on Drop the Hammer, gradually extending the 5-foot drop to an 8-foot drop or more
My ultimate goal is to successfully complete "Drop the Hammer." I'm excited to put in the work to make it happen!
I have 2 years exp by Oct and last year I could confidently send the 2nd drop at the Slaughter Pen free ride area deep past the wood ramp.
Are there any other drops I should session while in Bentonville?
    Thanks for the video!

This sounds like a great plan! I love the fact that you are taking your time and practicing on different drops. The top of Schroen Train and the bottom Ozon are two more drops you could practice on. I wish you all the best, you got this! 🙌🚀

We just got back from Bentonville and watched people hit this drop! We're all in our late forties and early fifties and fear is the number one obstacle because we don't want to get hurt...
Drop progression is key... after a nasty collarbone break a few years ago I'm able to do the intermediate drops at the skills Park at the skills Park .. Next year will move to the next level.

Well done Matt! My son and I hit Drop the Hammer when we visited in July (with the help of a local👍) now I relive that rush every time I see someone else do it 🤟
    Great coaching too!👍

Great job Matt! I am hoping none of that is in the Coler Roller enduro - I've got nowhere to practice anything like that coming from out of town.
That cheese grater effect is the gift that keeps on giving! I've had road rash from crits where 40 or so of us went rolling down the pavement at 30+ mph... Hurts to shower!

@@MTBPerspective Thats too bad, but will be a great way to end the riding season. It was over 100 with heat index when I was there last year. Thankfully my Airbnb had an amazing pool!

Fall is where I usually get the most miles in - at some point in the last 10yrs I've lost my ability to deal with heat much over 90 especially if the air quality is down too.

Just found your channel & love all the instructional videos! It helps being in Arkansas and being familiar with the trails you are filming on. It gives me more confidence to try/learn on the exact same features that you show in your videos. I haven't progressed to advanced drops like Drop the Hammer yet but I'm slowly working my way up to bigger & bigger drops. Do you have video working with Matt on intermediate drops? Your jumping instructional video was also great! Welcome to Arkansas & we're glad you're here! Thanks for the great vids!

Great video. You teach the same thing as I do off of drops. Push forward, not up or down. When I was there at Drop The Hammer I was alone and didn't want to try it without someone else around or someone to tow me in. Hopefully next time I can find someone to lead me in so I know the speed. Although, after watching this I think it's a pretty straightforward forward roll-in from those stairs.

Nice! BUT, I would practice on Firestarter drop (smallest of the 3), then 2nd drop on Drop the Hammer (2nd biggest), then 1st (biggest of the 3). Like 3 drops each (first 2 drops), every time a little deeper, so further/bigger (NOT too deep) then, without any delay, big one at normal trail speed. Being towed helps A LOT, but not always available.

Anneke, i noticed a mini pop the first time on drop the Hammer. Is that a personal thing you like, or needed when going for bigger drops?

    • @annekebeerten
      @annekebeerten  10 місяців тому

Yes, the safest way I like to teach and show people is with a little micro pop/load to unweight the front end of the bike. This way the bike 'floats' more vs the front end dropping down nose heavy. It all depends on the drop as well, since Drop the Hammer has a big vertical drop and steep landing you do not need to do much of that. Hope this helps!

It's amazing how people that don't know MTB FUNDAMENTALs would give a comment like this. She stayed chin over the stem, that's a perfect body position and not way forward. Matt was good, but his hips were too far back even before he left the edge, plus he landed on his back tire. One should land either both wheels together or slightly front wheel first on sloped landing. Back wheel landing is only used for flat landing. Get yourself educated on MTB FUNDAMENTALs before you showed how uneducated you are. SMH.
