Good stuff, dude! One step at a time.
Do you know what bobo means in Filipino? LoL
hi
@@jjsbaybe nope
Bobo means dumb and or stupid LoL
@@jjsbaybe Ah
I want to see more lessons with Colin so I dont have to take you to the hospital again. Thanks.
Sounds like a plan 🤘
Hahaha
Roasted! Paul, perhaps you should take drinking lessons so you can hang with Bobo!
Lol, Paul I thought the same thing at the binging of the video!!
Paul brings up a good point Bobo. Maybe rock rolls should be your next lesson. lmfao
Here's a quick tip: when you jump, you can control two main things: how high you jump and the speed going into the jump. These two factors are independent of each other. There is acceleration in the y-axis (gravity,) but none in the x-axis. Therefore, assuming you hit a jump at a constant speed every time, the only way to jump farther is to jump higher.
nice! i like that logic 🤘
but there's a point where if you jump too high, the distance will be shorter. I don't think you'll get to that point though haha
The physicist in me loves your comment😄 to add a bit - in case of jumping (or throwing an object into the air at an angle) distance is determined by your speed and the starting angle of your trajectory (steepness of the lip). If you increase this angle, up untill 45 degrees the distance will get longer, but anything steeper will shorten the length of the jump, but you will jump much higher. Thats why dirt jumps are usually very steep and short. They are way easier to mess up but much more fun imo:)
Thil will work untill a certain angle, your speed and hight are actually directly related, your terminology works up to a certain hight. That is why when slopestyle riders can do a entire course without pedaling but in the competition run when they go way higher they trow a few pedalstrokes in before almost every jump, I know this is also cuz of stuff like 360 costing extra energy and sideways landings but hight is also a factor. Another example is the backflip, it is essentialy preloading way too much, but when someone does a backflip they go into a jump at way higher speeds.
Also your body movement/position can lengthen and shorten a jump :)
Always good to see people progress. Pumping and popping off the lip is a crucial part of jumping, whenever you get that feel down you can start to figure out how to stay more neutral in the air and rotate your bike nose down or however you want into the landing (like Colin did in the follow cam) once you reach that buttery smooth transition you know you’ve mastered it.
-I don't know how to jump
-I see this video on my recommended
-I am happy that I might learn something here
-I see BOBO as the creator
-I get even more hyped and click
-UA-cam DOESN'T LET ME START THE VIDEO
Video thumbnail is just a tease; we want to see Bobo clear that wooden jump ramp!
Nicely explained with the inflatable doll: couldn't be clearer LOL
Landing jumps will take some coaching too before anything else....
And to practice the preload, a couple (or even a single) 2x4 and an old plywood sheet is fine. aah the old days of elementary school yard long jump bike contests....
lol, maybe i'll send it when I get my pre-load dialed 🤘
The most underrated channel ever his fill making is amazing and has the best editing
Dude this is exactly what I struggle with and have had the fear since going nose heavy really really badly like you one time but luckily I rolled out of it somehow and just recently have gotten some confidence back and sending jumps, however I still don’t preload much or boost them hardly at all, I just can’t seem to nail it and I get timid. I know your feelings! Great video!
yeoooooooooooooo awsome work bobo nice to see you getting better and better each day
Great job! Love seeing the "switch" get flipped!!!
i was so stoked to have the switch "flipped"
That was quite the improvement! And they visualization at the end was very helpful!
Dude, love the drone shots! Great job even getting back in the air. It’s so scary after a crash and it’s great to see you back👊🏻
'I was trimming that Bonsai tree!' :P :))
Thanks for sharing this lesson bobo! I'm stoked for you for perfecting your craft 💪
This is great!
Killin it with the drone footage, love the video!
Really digging the drone footage. The last shot/pan out was beautiful! Keep it up buddy, you're doing great!
After being off my bike for 3 months with a shoulder injury, I have had very little desire to watch any UA-cam MTB stuff... This was just the type of video I needed! Watching Seth, Singletrack, Van Duzer and BKXC doing their regular thing (talented boys in cool trails) was just making me jealous lol. Well done, funny (as always) and inspiring vlog. Back on the trails tomorrow. Cheers!
I recently had a similar insight at my local skills park. After hearing forever (years) to do most of the preload with my feet and not much in my hands I decided to try to copy what the good jumpers were doing- bring that bar in to your hips while standing up after the pre-load. Well, best results I ever got! The one thing that can happen is if you pull up unevenly you can get crooked in the air. But I guess I let that fear get the best of me. Keep it up! Arms baby!
It was good to see someone sessioning jumps and learning on each one. And I hear you when it comes to fear about jumps, I'm 48 and tired of the numerous nights in the hospital.
Off to find a coach.
I had the same experience when I tried to teach myself rollerblading and snowboarding. I wasn't a natural, so no matter how much I practiced, my skill level would not rise beyond a low ceiling. When I took lessons, I broke through that ceiling and took my skills to a higher ceiling, but then I was stuck there. Every time I took a lesson, I'd reach a higher ceiling. I just wish I had gotten a teacher when I tried to self teach myself how to fly an RC planes. The cost of the teacher would have saved me thousands in destroyed planes.
I would love to have a jump line like that near me. Looks like a great place to learn. Also great tips
I Love Dupont! That drone footage grabbed hold of my heart!
Glad to see your back on the bike! Stay out of the hospital!!!
Lol, that’s the plan 🤘
Have you used to drone to lift a 6 pack yet?
Oooo i liked the cinematic drone shots at the end!
These were som solid pointers you've seem to have gotten!! I'm also hitting a decade of biking without coaching and first if all I'm gonna start trying to actually learn new stuff and secondly doing it with help from people who knows how to. 37 is old enough not to be to proud to take advice 👌
I would love to see coaching on cornering, definitely what scares me the most for some reason!
Yes, Bobo is back
Great vid! I’ve only recently started hitting local bike parks and improving my jumping abilities. I still have a LONG way to go and it’s always humbling to see a 14 year old smoke you on the coarse. But it’s been a blast! I really can see having someone to help perfect the movements being a huge help.
I had a lesson some time ago: body position and line choice for cornering, it was very useful. As you’re learning the pump/preload, you could try the bunnyhop, I believe it will further improve your jumping skills stop. Great edit and still good to have you back - stay safe!
thanks dude! and for sure, I really need to work on my bunny hop
Bobo, I’d love to see Colin hit the same jump as your practicing on in a side by side comparison. Maybe in slo mo? Thanks for the video!
I finding out ( when it goes perfect) that I catch more air and feel more in control. My sight is on the trail so I stopped focusing on jump height. Continuing practice to be more consistent is my goal as a new by sky pilot. After the ride, I go back and session jumps I need to do better on. Those wooden launch pads are a whole nother story. 😮
Looking forward to seeing the progression. I feel like i'm also in a spot where I have decent jump skills, but get spooked on larger jumps. I'm afraid of getting bucked, and on the jumps I get nervous on, I notice I tend to screw up more. I think Colin brings up a good point where he talks having to pump and preload into all jumps otherwise you'll lose control/ get bucked. That really seems to be my issue is that on the larger jumps or jumps I know I've struggled with, I get nervous and ride them more timidly and don't preload into them, causing me to have problems. It makes a lot of sense to try and be more aggressive with my preload coming into them like I do on jumps I know I can clear. Mental games and blocks...
Epic drone shots!!!
You got it! I can tell from the video it’s all confidence! You look timid coming in To every jump! Great work love this type of content!🤙🤙
Good episode, I took a lesson last year and it deffo helped. A week ago I ate shit off a big jump so it would seem that a small refresher when you’ve just learnt something is also a good idea!
Cool video, I like how Colin explained how to jump
Fantastic, informational episode.
The drone shots are sick!!👍
such quality content my man. Have a good weekend
That last bit of footage was awesome at the top of that hill!
Great video man, Breaking for sure. An underestimated critical part in maintaining speed and flow and I really want some tips too, lol.
I've never taken actual lessons but was fortunate to hook up with riding buddies early on that were actual coaches. They would give me lots of suggestions to improve my skills. I actually spent most of my life riding hardtail bikes. One suggestion I would offer is start out in a smaller gear so you can get abit more speed coming into the jump
Awesome vid as always Bobo. That really shed a lot of light on jumping for me cause I honestly had no idea how to jump either properly lmao. Thought it was all about max speed and hope for the best.
Wow Bobo can jump after all. Nice.
Awesome bobo. Keep on it.
I actually just crashed on a gap 2 weeks ago because I didn’t preload and ended up going over the bars. I think this video is really going to help and I can’t wait to get back to the trails to see what I can do!
Good job BOBO! I learned a lot from that video! Like how you finished at Cedar Rock!🤘
You are definitely one of my favorite mountain bikers! I love your content and your personality. I wish my channel could be more like yours!
Thanks dude! Just keep working at it and your channel will do well too 🤘
Love your videos Bobo ... you seem like an all around good dude.
Spot on comment Paul
Good stuff Bobo 👍
thanks buddy!
Great video!
I did a jump 101 clinic about 18 months ago and it changed my abilities 10 fold 🤘
We were just at Kolo 2 days ago and that dude was killing it! Great little park!
Great video! Riding a pump track will help you get that felling of loading your bike.
Nice work Bobo. We become so complacent in our riding, it's just what most of us do. Reaching out for pro help is smart. I should take a lesson. A-LINE here we come!! Well next year anyway, hopefully. F'ing COVID.
maybe i'll send A-line with ya buddy!
@@BIKINGWITHBOBO That would be sick. I can only imagine the beer consumption after! 👊🏻
Something that helped me to learn to preload and stand up in the jump is think about pulling the bars toward your stomach when leaving the jump. It sets you up to preload without thinking, and leaves you in an upright position with lots of arm mobility to push the bike into the landing. That’s what helped me anyways.
that's awesome advice! standing up tall off the jump is something i struggle with in a major way
even better than just preloading is boosting, aka a preload into a full bunny hop
As certified Snowboard instructor, I approve of this Video! hahahaha yeah next year putting the letting in some lessons and thinking of taking some myself.
I had a beer just to watch this lesson, preloads for me this wknd 🤘
Clearing the little double is entirely dependent on getting speed out of that berm (sneaky)
Great video Bobo!
Great Job man! Let's see a stoppie next ha!
I learned to jump by myself by practicing pumping with my arms more. The problem is at kanuga, i started pumping way to much with my arms and launched my self so far away from the jump like a spring exploding and i flew over my bike. I have so many good images of the crash tho so i can look back and laugh
Can we just acknowledge how cool this jump park is. We have little 7 yr olds ripping it up and grown men drinking beer while getting schooled on how to jump.
it's pretty awesome here
Cheers
Super great vid and tips!
Great video! I need to get out there and get a lesson. Jumps are intimidating
I should have watch this video before breaking two ribs!
God am I happy that I started riding dirt Jumps with a stiff dirtbike. After my year and 5 months riding i am complete confident with Black jump trails and I do not have any Problems. Im really happy with how it turned out But maybe its also differenciating between another. Otherwise great Video!
52 weeks will fly by. U got this..
You are so good
I need to take one of his classes too I can see you putting it together already amazing episode!!!
it's crazy how much one lesson can help!
Cornering!, it is a game changer 💪🏻
It's cool watching this video and then watching your newer stuff. Great Progression Bobes. Also did your drone crash into the tress at 11:15?
I had the same fears of jumping, I ended up going to Bryce and picking up confidence. Then I showed up at snowshoe, and the jumps there are so flows on Skyline that I was going hard after 2 runs and haven't looked back since! I've got a few videos on my channel out there, going from being scared at local jumps to hitting decent gaps.
I am ok at jumping as I can do a 15 foot double but on the first jump he wasn’t using the whole lip. When you jump preload a second before you reach the top of the lip and then just pull back and lean forward, but not too far as you may go over the bars but some jumps make you nosedive the jumps to do them correctly so ask people about it.
I think I learned something new here! I've had some pro coaching for other aspects and I think I have grown enough confidence to practice jumps. Wish me luck, lol 😂
Learn bunny hops next, they will also help on your jumping skills.
Great video as always💪😁✌️
Bunny hoping is probably the most skill period .👍🏻
It seems like you enjoy your new drone! :-D
Another killer vid dude (except for the PBR and intro music lol) but yeah, I'm at the same point and too old to find out through trial and error anymore! Coming back after a serious injury is a HUGE handicap man!
I just love seeing my friend try to jump.. I told him what he has to do and what he's doing wrong so many times.. tried to teach him every single day..
And he still doesn't pump into the lip, and he still pushes his bike down to the floor in the middle of a jump..
Lol, just stay at him! I’m sure one day it’ll all click for him
Good One Bobo ! Cheers from Poland over the other side of the Globe ;)
🍻
You said it yourself in a previous episode Bobo, you need to learn how to do a proper bunny hop. I need to learn that as well, so take lots of video! :)
A few months ago, after watching a bunch of jump videos I tried a steep jump and tried to preload it, my feet came off the pedals and I crashed pretty bad. Nothing broken but on crutches for two months. Now I am too chicken to go fast enough and also afraid to preload so I am only rolling over jumps. An afternoon of jumping lessons here in Southern California is $240.
Oh man, I know exactly how you feel dude. Since my accident I have a new found understanding of what could go wrong. Negative thoughts while jumping are my worst enemy
most times we over think things. you did pretty good. i will go to my grave not being the bike rider i always wanted to be..but i still dream :D
Nice use of the new drone!
thanks buddy! #learn'n
Great vid Bobo.
How is your Manual game? Maybe string a few manuals over some rollers?
Keep up the great work and the drone footage looks great too
I managed a perfect jump at a local dirt track, it felt like I was riding over a hump, didn't feel the take off, didn't feel the landing and felt weightless in the air, it was the perfect parabolic flight.
Never done it since but I can see why when you get it right it feels natural.
Being scared and scrubbing the jump ( bringing the bike into you ) feels safe but opens up the potential for a bad flight.
Cornering next, It seems to open up everything else
🤘
Haha, I just finished a MTB edit with this song in it. Hit the play button on your video and then started hunting around for the mystery open window that was playing mine. There was none. It's in your vid. Good times!
*This reggae song
What song is it?
I like the salsa and the ska music!
The song is the best part
There are no lies in Nature! 💯
Just like gymnastics, setting high in the air is scary, but safer because you have more time to react and control it.
steven7650 that’s a solid analogy 🤘
Cornering!! You’ll have your mind blown by how fast and in control you’ll feel once you get cornering dialed in. You’ll be blasting out of corners with a grin on your face and your buddies won’t have a hope in hell of catching you.
Would live to see some tips for riding tech!!
Love the content; Your Videos and the editing are getting so much better.. Hope to see the Subscriptions and views take off.. Those last shots, were those filmed with the new drone?
thanks! and yes they were!
Definitely need a follow up with Colin!!
KOLO, great place to learn, although did get the worst pedalbite of my life there haha
Would love to see Colin to teach yo to boost higher off dirt jumps, I tend to just hop from peak to peak in a horizontal trajectory where as the good riders hang in the air way higher and then nose it in !
BTW the Drone footage is killer
Railing corners/berms
