excited to see this come to life. love the M113k motor, just sold my G55 this year, I am thinking of doing the M113k swap into my 89 560SL... or a larger NA V8. Excited to see this build. Great work!
Great job mate. Throughout the GT40 job I thought to myself you really need to be applying your level of detail from a day 1 build not fixing others issues. Really excited to see your take on the gullwing. I hope to see you channel continue to grow and help financially on your project. Enjoy !!
Fantastic progress Andrew. Cannot wait to see the body in the garage. How do you know exactly where to cut on the SLK and what to remove and what to keep? Does the manufacturer of the body give you a manual or guide?
No I did, and I get that there are helpful hints from other builders, but was just wondering because I see so many different manufacturers of bodies, and was wondering, as I am sure they are not all 100% the same. I watched the series from Notjustcampers and it seemed as if they just had to make up structure and cut away blindly as they went along. I guess the interior structure for the body is then also just a measure, cut and weld until you get it right kind of deal without any reference from the manufacturer. Looking forward to this build though 👍🏼
@@GSAPilot Oh fair play I apologize :-) it really is just that, chop abit, chop abit more until the body sits correctly, I've just managed to get a head start in following what others have done before me as their are no instructions. In a couple videos time all being well I'll be starting the inner structure for the body to start to marry the SLK and body together
You can always pick up some side cash working in a chop shop. You seem a natural. Almost seems a shame to cut up such a clean car but that definitely the best to start with. Really looking forward to the progress. Nice new logo too!
Did the previous owner of the SLK know you were embarking on cutting up the car to make your project. I ask because I built a Lomax in the 1990s which is based on a 2CV. The lady I purchased the 2CV donor from was delighted to know I was going to look after her car.
Erm no! I got caught a few years ago when I admitted to a seller I was planning to chop up some very rare parts for an old project car, he then refused to sell them to me! haha. I now keep my mouth shut! LOL
Hi! Looking forward to your build! I would love to do one of these, but I need to finish a couple other builds!!! (Countach, Lotus S3 Turbo Esprit, and a very special F-car). I don’t have a channel yet
Is there any structural integrity left after cutting out so many structure? I am sure the polyester/fiberglass body isn’t going to give you any. Ore are going to make a roll cage afterwards?
Hi,exellent and expensive project.Congratulations ! Find this guy here ДЖИПЫ МОНСТРЫ they make also Gullwing.Maybe you will be interested to see their work. They already have the body installed.
So much work and removal of structural parts of the monocoque will massively affect the structural rigidity of the donor car. This will obviously need to be IVA’d when complete…..
You will definitely be sued by Mercedes as the Gull-wing is a patented design. I personally would love to make one in Australia but Mercedes Benz will size it and crush it. Good luck buddy
PLEASE DO NOT PUT FUEL TANK IN THE REAR there are so many cars that killed people because of this choice! The original mini as example, find a place that doesent bug you but don’t put in car crash areas
The demo is definitely the Fun part.
This is awesome! So glad I found your channel because this is the exact project I want to do next. Finishing my 190e evo 2 kit first
I know you will do a fantastic job!! really anxious for the next video!!!
Thank you so much!!
Looks like a fun project. Can’t wait to see more!
Just subscribed really interesting project great narration very clear 👍

Haha, you clearly didn't watch to the end of the video! ;-)

But great project!
Looking forward to the fuel tank shape and placement. I thought about this myself, then i decided to keep the original tank for now.

I don't know weather to laugh or cry watching you cut up the merc!
You will definitely cry when you find out at what prices such projects are sold, and the one you are laughing at now will be the last one laughing.
came for the gt40, staying for your fabrication journy

Great start! Will be watching with interest. Body coming from Sam?
No my bodies not coming from Sam
Lovin' this 😃

I'm going to be making a subtle rollcage
Have you looked at a 68 mustang fuel tank. Easy to integrate into a boot floor
That is a great shout! I'll have a look at the dimensions of one, thanks!

Isn't making a gullwing out of a cabrio overcomplicated?
Great video, but those numberplates up the stairs are really distracting!
So much work and removal of structural parts of the monocoque will massively affect the structural rigidity of the donor car. This will obviously need to be IVA’d when complete…..
You gonna regret cutting up this SL55AMG. It has more value then that kitcar your making. Success with all that work.
It's an SLK 32AMG not SL55AMG. I don't think you realise what these 'kitcars' sell for ;-)

I see your point but I built a GT40 where I was flanked by 2 fuel tanks, so having one way behind me feels like the safer option haha
