Interesting build.. Check out red white a boosted they was putting a TR3 on a slk chassie. But the build stopped. ILL followed on. Thanks. Good luck. Hope it works out.
I have this exact car model from Burago. 1/18 It's a 1954 Mercedes 300 SL Gulfwing Race Car No 452. With Red and Blue Livery This will look Brilliant once Finished.
Having studied photos of the Audi for hours when I did the model of it, I know you have an insane attention to detail and this will be an absolute jaw dropper , can't wait
What a great project ! I had Pagoda roof 230 and 280SL that I have 10 years ago and now I have a R107 in my garage (380SL). The Gullwing is so beautiful. I have been in Stuttgart to the museum of MB and even the chassis is amazing ! Do you have an idea of the budget? Donor car, fiberglass kit... well I suppose that the most difficult will be finding chrome bumpers and front grill ( maybe from a 190 SL) and door hinges... I will follow your nice project ! Lucky man !
I am getting ready to build the same car however I am still trying to decide which donor car to use. I would love to be able to work on the car myself without any "special" tools. I would -probably try to choose an older corvette. If I wanted to keep it all Mercedes then I would probably choose a wrecked 380 SEL or 450 SEL. I am still in the decision process. Thank you for sharing your work.
@@andirt4 Thank you so much. Maybe an slk with an LT1 engine. I love the look of that particular engine and a 5 speed manual. I love welding however I agree that doing body and frame work every day can get kinda tedious. I have been assembling a machine shop to support the builds that I have lined up. I hope I will be able to perform the builds and video everything at the same time.
hi. loves from Turkey. A very successful project. Can you make a mold for me? what will the price be? I want to do this project. I am waiting for a reply.
I seem to remember the Sultan of Brunei having AMG work on a Gullwing, which had modern alloys on it - and it looked all right. The shape lends itself to anything, I'd say.
The factory mag wheels look like American Racing Torque Thrusts, they’re a blatant rip off of the them. A sixties five spoke mag wheel would suit the car perfectly, as would chrome reverse wheels and narrow whitewalls. I thought it would look wild as a sixties style hot rod.
You English people, you are great! in France it is impossible to manufacture and modify this type of vehicle. Even the replacement of alloy wheel (by bigger ones) is not possible.
It is Didier, it's just a bit complicated. I imported a 2001 clk 320 convertable from the UK that was converted to a Brabus 3.8 with different wheels, brakes, exhaust, inlet etc.. It depends on how freindly your local Drel is.
I got two fifty year old Mercedes. 508s. Great old ride. Think I would find some old Mercedes hub caps and cut some discs and attach caps over top of alloy wheels. You get a better vision of what you building. It's just tempory. But your eye will change. Good luck.
Nice build! Although I would have left the interior original (modern) so that this vehicle may be recognized as tribute car instead of an exact replica. Otherwise my pals would not allow me to drive around in this build...
What a great 👍🏽 project. If you need any custom parts made up let me know. I know a man that can! Aluminium Titanium anything carbon fibre. He made stuff for a previous WRC driver. PM me. Where are you guys based?
@@andirt4 would be keen to make a mould of your body. We could even reproduce it carbon even!! Not sure how we can PM here. I could pop and see you next week Thursday? Can we PM here. I’m guessing via instagram
@@davidf680 not quite right. Mod the chassis / monocoque and the original identity is lost. Hello I'VA, but anything can pass if its compliant with the requirements. Later model cars should be able to pass relatively easily as they'll already have components that comply, eg no sharp edges inside or outside. Curved glass for an earlier car with the appropriate markings for instance could be an impossibility, or just ££££££.

Great stuff pal - really enjoyed watching the grafting in of the body - and you actually took it out. 🙌👌
Thanks bud

Its going to be a lovely car!
Very nice job... Thank you for sharing this project. Can we know how to attach and bond the body on the next video.. Thanks before
Yes we can
Nice one
halli hallo, i need part five, awsome project , good videos too. :),how much is he cost of the gullwing body
You have vastly improved the styling over what the donor car had originally

I wouldn't be surprised if the stainless bumper people in Vietnam had gull wing bumperettes. I know that 190 SL sets are available from them .

Hi, this project for sale how money? Very good project, good lucky. 👏👏👍
If you can keep it all Mercedes
@@Edward-rv2bu I found an SLK but it has not run for a few years. It is a convertible so it is probably worth purchasing and restoring it to drive..
Just for the Information !
How much this project cost:
donor car + new body + 1000 thins and parts + time, etc
Greetings from Croatia
Very good

Definitely 💯
Is it me or do them wheels suit the 300SL shape its looking good so far keep up the good work guys

Super 👍 depending on how this turns out, might bring you my 2014 slk350 😀. Great project.
Did you notice the steering wheel is in the wrong side. That slk body is one of the prettiest cars evermade.
the right side is the right side lol
This is going to be good (hard work, but good) 👍

Wow where did you find that body.
Just stumbled onto this one, see the chassis, wait a second...BMX's.
I may do a quick shot for you of them in the next video 😂

Very nice….
With a body swap....what do you register it as?...an SLK or some kind of kut car?
Keep going !
Is there a reason you’re not using that 2-post lift for doing the raising-n-lowering of the body???
the ramp gets in the way when we lift the body off so just easier to use jacks and axle stands
That makes me wish i had kept my SLK 32 AMG……
Looking great!!!
Thanks!!

Also. Scraplife garage. Twin turbo R8 they stripped down.. like your stripped down SLK.
Where did you get the rear lights from please
Is it a exact copy of the SL or is it made to the dimensions of SLK ???
Exact copy of an sl
Who did you buy the body from?
❤️❤️❤️
Nice !
Hey guys, we are building one in Brazil. Can you recomend where que can buy the door handle/lock mechanism?
Hello sir good job were can i have i kit please
that's great!
Awesome!!!
Thanks!!

Cool as
hi, love the project. looking forward to seeing it all done. is it glassfibre?
Thanks, yes it’s glassfibre
hay mate (by eck)i,m new to your channel,is that bodyshell a kit off somone?Cheers.
No mate it’s a copy from a gullwing my friend had
So will this go on a Q plate? Looks amazing, what size wheels and tyres are you going for?
No it’ll go on the same plate as the slk as it’s a body swap
@@andirt4 So will it need an IVA test?
Modified monocoque, so IVA for sure, to be strictly legal.
Hummm, I thought if you cut or modify the chassis/mono in any way, it can not pass the iva...Hope I am wrong....

Thanks for the idea!
throw the exhaust out sides like the SLR
sorry that i didnt subscribe earlier, but this looks interesting
Thanks
lookin good fellas :)
Thanks
It will need to be re registered as it has been radically altered, ask DVLA.
If it’s retained, engine, transmission rear axel etc it has enough points to retain the original registration?
Hmmm, no battery? Now you need a new alternator!
mega , bau mir auch einen
you need better camera and some stabilisation for it
What do you suggest for a camera
Iv just bought a tripod
Andi, you're the oldest 10 year old I know. Good job.
😂 cheers bud
