The "tom & Jerry" shorts are always funny consider the lead stars don't talk but the movie came out Honest (well that was...) but I'll leave with this line "Don't you believe it"
Fun fact: In the very first short, Tom's name was Jasper. It was changed to Tom to basically denote that he was just your average "tom" cat trying to deal with an overly clever mouse.
Reminds me of my dad, whenever he sees a random minute of an episode, he can’t contain his laughter. I mean I love the show to bits, but it’s not always hilarious to me lol
I love how much this feels like an early NC video. I would really enjoy seeing more relatively low effort content like this mixed in with the regular modern NC episodes.
My granddad died recently but he absolutely loved Tom and Jerry, I remember sitting as a kid just watching reruns of it with the two of us laughing our asses off
One of my favourite childhood memories is me and my Grandad watching Neapolitan Mouse while waiting for Sunday lunch! I don’t even know if I’m remembering it right but the vision of being on my grandparents’ sofa watching that short is very vivid
By the way, the sound clip of Tom saying "don't you believe it" was taken from an old radio program of the same name, "Don't You Believe It!" The radio show was about debunking a bunch of myths. When you think about that, it makes perfect sense in why they used that clip in this episode of Tom and Jerry.
They used the same voice in the episode with the explosive white mouse that escaped from a lab, as seen in the clip "Don't You Believe It! (Tom And Jerry)" here on UA-cam.
I don’t know what the odds are that you randomly remember an old show, and it turns out someone made a list ranking the best episodes in their opinion within the week beforehand, but this is an awesome video. One of the best list related videos I’ve seen in a long long time!
When he was a kid, my dad got roped into a scheme with his friend to flood the house and freeze it, inspired by this Tom and Jerry cartoon. My grandparents were not amused, but he loved showing us the cartoon and telling us the story. Absolutely iconic.
As a kid i wanted to do that too but luckily my mom had to tell me the difference between cartoon and real life logic before i was gonna flood the freaking kitchen 🤣🤣🤣
I remember Mammy Two Shoes, in all the episodes she was in, she was my favorite in all of them!! To me she was an important character in those episodes and could never be topped by the rest of Tom’s owners. Nor will she ever be, she’s number one to me.
While I do believe that she was meant to be a caricature, it could've been worse- I mean she's a single, independent hard-working woman, that's able to afford a nice house in a nice neighborhood and be able to afford the lastest fashion, jewelry and electronics.
My personal favorite Tom and Jerry cartoon short is the one where Tom's identical cousin who's scared of mice comes over...the way it ends with them pulling one over on Jerry after he spent the entire short terrorizing Tom's cousin thinking it's him is pure gold since it's one of the few Tom and Jerry shorts where Tom ACTUALLY gets one over on Jerry.
YES!!! That is one of my favorites too! XD the fact Jerry doesn't find out that there are two of them and actually runs away in the end! I replay that episode in my head so much! 😂
@@NgwaLionelChe-mi2yw I think one of the reasons it's so well liked might be because it's one of only a handful of shorts where Tom comes out on top...it's like seeing Bugs Bunny get the short end of the stick at the end of a short..it sticks with you. Lord knows I've been using the "OOOH I'm DYING again!" quote for decades when something tedious gets too annoying. That came from Bugs Bunny from the end of the short where he had to help the little penguin get back home.
I hope you feel better soon, Doug. Take care. You just can't beat the OG _Tom and Jerry._ MGM shorts. The iconic screams, the timing, the sheer violence and mania of the slapstick, Hanna and Barbera put it all together so beautifully and I don't think they can ever fully be replicated.
Even though I thought Tom and Jerry show was alright, I have to agree. One of the few old school cartoons I grew up with that I still like. I don't feel like I'm too old for it unlike the smurfs... Another show my mom showed me as a kid.
I just love how his voice trails off saying "I can feel it now..." and just goes in to a regular confused voice facing the camera, as if to ask US, the audience, what's going on, "Hey...something really IS burning around here..." Just that delayed reaction before he sees it's HIM that's burning before being sent just slays me every single friggin' time! XD
Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery from shingles! Apparently calamine lotion can help reduce the itchiness and pain. After an outbreak, my mum's doctor recommended her the Shingrix vaccination once she'd recovered as apparently that can help avoid shingles in the future. Take care, Doug!
Hey, Phantomstrider! I liked your crossover review with the critic with the SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Are you going to do the same thing to the other two?
I particularly like Yankee Doodle Mouse. It's non-stop chasing and gags throughout the episode. What's really a clever gag is when Jerry lays a lit big stick of dynamite behind Tom. When he sees it and panics, it cracks open smaller and smaller sticks until it's the size of a pebble. Tom picks it up and laughs at it until (BOOM) it lets off a huge explosion.
25:35 I don't think I've ever heard Doug laugh like that. That's got to be the most heartfelt, childish laugh I think I've ever heard, and it's no wonder! That Tom Scream is absolute perfection. Tom and Jerry will never get old, and no matter how old we may get, it will always take us back to being a child ourselves.
Love the one when Tom wears a zoot suit. His monologue where he talks about how she sets his soul on fire while Jerry is giving him a hot foot is just comedy gold. Then there's the same monologue in a different short where Spike takes the place of the female cat without Tom realizing it.
There was a cartoon which Tom and Jerry talk to each other When Mammy throws Tom out and a bored Jerry waving a white flag finds him they both make a plan to get him back in the house
I used to have that monologue and delivery memorized, and it makes an amazing brick joke when he accidentally uses it on Spike in the Bass episode(another favorite of mine because I used to be a Bassist lol)
A personal favorite of mine is the Yankee Doodle Mouse, seeing them actually having a "war" with weapons jury rigged from things in a basement always fun to watch
I won't lie I never caught onto the stereotype of mamma two shoes I legit loved seeing her on screen cause she's one of the few things that Thomas is always 100 afraid off and let's be honest she's badass
As a kid I always thought Mammy was an absolute badass. EVERYONE feared her, even spike. and she was always perfectly right whenever she dished out the pain.
that's my favorite as well, it's what I always think of first when I think of Tom & Jerry. I think I watched it as a child more than any other episode. As a person who did and still does love music, it's an absolute blast.
Pecos Pest has to be my favorite episode. The song Uncle Pecos was singing is still in my mind years after seeing it, and Tom’s panic every time Pecos's guitar string broke still make me laugh every time.

And yet, there's still enough material to pick. Like... _Top 11 Most Violent T&J Shorts, Top 11 T&J Moments When Tom Comes Out on Top, Top 11 T&J Shorts With Secondary Characters..._ Why Top 11? _Because it's far more interesting than just 10._
There needs to be a 2nd and 3rd top 11 of Tom and Jerry episodes. You can’t just leave other episodes as a honorable mention. Love this top 11, hope for more to come in the future.
It’s like he said in his Top 11 South Park Episodes. If there’s a specific show that everyone loves like South Park and Tom and Jerry, there’s like top 20 or even 50.
Even as a very young kid, I always found the night before Christmas heartwarming. To think that even a mouse and cat that are known to hurt each other have one episode during Christmas where they treat each other nicely. Even the mousetrap app the end was actually just a present for jerry from the house owners.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I find Snowbody Loves Me did the concept of Tom putting Jerry out in the cold and later feeling guilty and fearing he may have killed him far better. In that short, Tom is the only character being antagonistic, as the trouble Jerry causes is completely inadvertent, and it's understandable why Tom is seeking revenge, so it seems to make more sense why he'd have a change of heart later. I'm not crazy about the ending with the piano playing and dancing, as it would have ended better with the two of them both warming up by the fire or in blankets, but overall, I felt that short did that kind of concept better.
Kitty Foiled is still my all time favorite, not only due to the pleasant dynamic between Jerry and the canary, but because of the ending sequence. My heart races every time I watch it.
I agree with you on that. I think I remember on another video having to do with that short, a comment mentioned how she wasn't just some stereotype alone, mainly because by this point, she was a clearly a successful woman who owned her own house and all that. I certainly agree with that, because if nothing else, all that jewelry couldn't have been cheap, so Mammy seems to have done pretty well for herself.
@@Will_Rules Oh yeah. I get that she may have started out as just another stereotype, but I do think that her design and all seemed to evolve to be a more respectable woman, who just so happen to be black
The episode with the exploding white Mouse is one of my favorites, and is another example of Tom's weird "Don't you believe it?" line. Solid Serenade is my personal top pick though, and I know it's probably a cliche pick, but the song is catchy, and the moment where Tom follows Jerry into the dog house with a sinister laugh only for Spike to then open the door, wave Jerry good bye, then copy the exact same sinister laugh is genius. Plus the dog house flying apart as Spike flies into the air to attack Tom is also perfect. Edit: I just realized Spike was actually called Killer in the Solid Serenade, just thought I'd correct myself real quick.
the missing mouse 1953 which has Paul frees as the radio announcer which I mimic from time to time, especially Paul frees, final line in the cartoon we repeat the white mouse why not explode
For Mouse in Manhatten, I have to tip my hat to Scott Bradley. He was the composer for so many MGM cartoon shorts, including Tom and Jerry, and he is CRIMINALLY underrated. He is to Tom and Jerry what Carl Stalling was to Looney Tunes. I could listen to his music in Mouse in Manhatten all day. It is so freaking good!
He's brilliant. Something a lot of modern Tom and Jerry releases are missing is that elegant, jazzy score. Instead they just put on various chimes and jingles over the animation
I like the one where Jerry rescues a lost puppy, it's similar to the Christmas one but it's nice to see Tom actively looking for the two and in turn, Jerry and the pup helped Tom. The ending is pretty sweet and it has heart. Another one is where Tom and Jerry waged war in the basement with firecrackers.
Tom and Jerry is one of the greatest cartoons of all time. The music and slapstick is just perfection and the Foley artists are so incredibly talented for the sound board. 💕🤗 Oh and Tom's screams are iconic.😂😂
I wish I could watch what it was like to do the sound effects in those classic cartoons… but the best we got are from Walt Disney’s The Reluctant Dragon, or a behind the scenes footage of Walt Disney doing Mickey’s voice in Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip
@@WraythSkitzofrenik Tom and Jerry is from the Jim Crow era. Back then black people, especially (single) women were not “well off, home owning girl bosses”. They just weren’t Also, the name Mammy directly references the ‘aunt’ figure, house slaves tasked with looking after the house and/or children of her masters. Her entire character is essentially a caricature of this exact mammy figure When the show first aired there was no ambiguity about this, people knew what they were watching and they knew what Mammy Two Shoes was representing. Entertainment media has always asserted and reasserted racial stereotypes and caricatural depictions of non-white cultures. There’s a video here on YT, “Disturbingly Racist Moments in Cartoons” by Cinemaniacs that gives examples of this When Whoopi Goldberg says that we can’t and shouldn’t forget this part of history, she’s not referring to the time when single black women were home owning girl bosses. She’s referring to slavery and Jim Crow.
Yeah no it's literally a racist stereotype that dehumanizes , mocks ,and objectifies black women, she is not a "girl boss".This is such a harmful way of thinking please educate yourself.
I loved the baby elephant episode, basically doing the same as the lion episode, but Jerry paints the elephant to look like him. Tom then has to juggle with not only Jerry but the elephant as well. Most importantly, when the baby's mother gets involved, I thought it made the greatest reaction from Tom.
@@zachscarbrough2727 I remember being at my locker in high school and overhearing the guys next to me talking about that cartoon and its ending: "I swear, it was the best one!'
Even when Doug is unwell, he perseveres and continues to create new Nostalgia Critic episodes. Thank you for all your hard work, Doug. I have been watching your content for over ten years now, and I still look forward to a new Nostalgia Critic episode every Wednesday. Hope you get better soon buddy.
There was once a time I bought the Changethechannel document of exaggerations, now I'm firmly of the opinion that Doug is not that bad, ESPECIALLY compared to much of his... [ahem] mentally ill contractors (ESPECIALLY Linkara the Lightbringer).
Mouse in Manhattan was one of my all time favorite episodes in this list. From the music to the backgrounds, everything blends together so well. Story wise, it was interesting and comedic. Art wise, absolutely amazing. 😌
Cruise Cat has my favourite moment in T&J. The two literally take a break from fighting each other to watch an episode of T&J in a movie theatre like it’s a normal thing. I love it.
I saw Cruise Cat on Whiskers Away in my childhood, and when it got to the part where Texas Tom was playing in the theater, I first thought that was going to be the rest of the short. Ironically, Texas Tom was also included on Whiskers Away 6 shorts later.
My favorite was always Little School Mouse. Basically Jerry is trying to teach Tuffy how to sneak around and steal from Tom, but Tuffy keeps asking Tom to help him with his lessons or befriending him. I always love ones where Tom comes out on top, but rarely does he ever have an ally against Jerry when doing it. Easily the funniest part of the episode comes when Jerry shows Tuffy how to steal cheese while Tom is sleeping, but when its Tuffy's turn he just wakes up Tom, asks for the cheese and gets a bigger piece than Jerry did.
@@bluespirit5112 Your 💯 correct bro 👍 many people in the world will choose Jerry because he wins more often but that's not the case. I'm from Cameroon in Africa, but my favorite character is Tom where he wins in some of his episodes like little school mouse, Jerry's diary, timid tabby and the other one in 2007 and Jerry gets more comeuppance i always feel happy for that since i was still very young, but many people would still choose Jerry over him in Africa. But i personally think Tom has more fans than Jerry in Asia right.
I remember as a kid seeing Mouse Trouble with a couple of my friends at our babysitters house, and us laughing so hard we got into trouble for making racket. That short was worth being put in time out for.
20:36 This part made me laugh OUT LOUD! I always love the scenes where Tom has this innocent confusion right before getting the dog piss beat out of him 😂
There was another one with the parakeet that I always loved, it had that moment where Tom is riding a toy train and keeps the same predatory expression while he rides it into a hole created by the bird dropping a bowling ball... it's so funny😂
Mammy Two-Shoes may be a stereotype, but she's just so lovable. Her personality, her badass side, her no nonesense attitude, her passion for her hobbies, it all comes together so well. She doesn't make me think less of anyone, she makes me wish I knew someone like her. Also, ironically, the stereotype she's based on is so old, that it's not even relevant anymore. People wouldn't even really know what she was based on if other people didn't keep bringing it up to complain about it. Mammies aren't a thing anymore. So an innocent mind is just gonna see her as a middle-aged black woman with a ton of personality. It's not like she's an actual slave in the context of the shorts. She's the owner of the house, she doesn't answer to anyone, she just wants to live her life without being bothered by any mice or cats.
Thanks critic - I’ve now been playing that scene with Tom and the bear trap on loop, and I was almost at the point of being stretchered out of the building in fits of uncontrollable laughter 😂
I remembe that scene. He screamed so loud that he tore up the landscape around him like a DBZ character. God that episode was hilarious. Haven't thought about this cartoon in forever. Bringing back lots of good memories.
I remember as a kid, that scream he did when the bees flew into his mouth while he hid in the water always had me bursting with laughter. Just how big his screaming expression was and how painful and loud the scream was just perfection. Even years later, despite not watching Tom and Jerry much, I still remember that specific scene!
One of my favourites too. I remember laughing so much at the bit where he hits the ball with a huge grin on his face, and it bounces back and smashes through his teeth
I live in Japan. My kids are very much Japanese. They still love Tom and Jerry (the good shorts, not the later dreck). Timeless humor and I'm glad to see that our tastes intersect so much Doug! Feel better!
I was hoping the short "Quiet, Please" would be on the list, that has my favorite joke in it. It's happens after Tom gives Spike cough medicine that puts him to sleep so he can chase Jerry without waking him: Jerry writes his last will and testament and hands it to Tom. Tom quietly reads it before saying out loud "One custard pie? Let me have it!", to which Jerry responds by throwing the pie in his face. That scene makes me laugh every time I see, and when Tom starts chasing Jerry again immediately after, I can't help but think "Why you so mad, Tom? He gave you what you wanted!" 😂😂😂😂
I love the Thanksgiving episodes and Tom playing the piano. I really like how the environment was used in these episodes in a non-standard way: in the first - food, in the second - details of the piano. Such a laconic space, and so much was squeezed out of it.
Ah Tom and Jerry, The most iconic cat and mouse duo in the history of animation! The antics and shenanigans of these two never failed to make us laugh and cry!!!
Even though I'm really not that old, barely 20, my grandparents had every single episode of Tom and Jerry on DVD and despite having many other options I used to just watch them all over and over and over again. This show is probably one of the most instrumental bits of media when it came to shaping my humour
For me the one short I always remember and looked forward when it came on Boomerang was "The Yankee Doodle Mouse". It's literally just Tom and Jerry with explosions, what's not to love!
As a kid, I had a video cassette of a collection of Tom and Jerry shorts. It included The Flying Cat. I rewinded the scene where Tom hits the birdhouse roof so many times because it was so hilarious
I really like the bit where Tom's 9 lives trail out behind him, and then rejoin his body. The last one in line breaks the 4th wall and mimes a little cheer
Mouse in Manhattan is my favorite episode. The atmosphere of NYC, the musical score, it’s nice to see a change of pace from the typical Tom and Jerry formula
One short I’ll always remember is Designs on Jerry (admittedly had to look the name up), the one with the “Better Mouse Trap”. Not only is the Rube Goldberg mouse trap incredible to watch, but there’s also the chase in the blueprint beforehand. Classic episode with so much to remember. Some other favorites that weren’t mentioned are “I’m Just Wild About Jerry” (the one where they chase each other through a department store) and “Tom and Jerry Cartoon Kit” (self-explanatory). Either way, great list, Doug, and I hope you feel better soon.
I was hoping to see my 2 favorites. The one where Jerry is teaching Tuffy how to outwit cats, but Tuffy is finding it easier just to be Tom's friend is both hilarious and heartwarming. And 2 ...sigh... "If my Mama wants a duck for dinner, then she's gonna have a duck for dinner. Bye, Mommy, and I still love you." I..just..can't. I know Tom and Jerry is supposed to be fun slapstick, but that one just hits me so hard. And seeing that Tom actually has a heart in the end. So good.
Best Nostalgia Critic Episode Ever. 28 minutes of joy and passion. Tom and Jerry is my favourite Golden Era Cartoon and this ranking is well thought out and joyful. Some of my favourite childhood memories are of me and my brother watching Tom and Jerry round my Grandparents house. Tom and Jerry is art and I highly recommend the Orchestra videos on UA-cam as they are amazing and hardened professional musicians are having the time of their lives doing the amazing music justice.
two episodes I have to point out are: 1) _Designs of Jerry_ - very fun animation of chalk figures in a chalk world. And it ends with a fun Rube Goldberg machine. 2) _The Hollywood Bowl_ - the one where Tom conducts a concert. I actually have more memories of that one than Cat Concerto. There's a lot of musical instruments for Jerry to interact with, the song interacting with the slapstick is zany. And that final act, where Jerry uses a saw on the floor to send the musicians into the basement, and Tom has to take over for everybody at once to not ruin the concert - that's something special.
My all time favorite moment was in "Cruise Cat". Tom screaming and shouting being stuck in that basement with a stick of dynamite cracks me up Everytime!!
Surprisingly, on the subject of Jerry’s cousin muscles, he did appear in a couple of episodes of the Tom and Jerry show. He had an out of character appearance in Tom and Jerry the magic ring, and was the final character to rescue in Tom and Jerry mouse attacks for the game boy color
Really earned the "Nostalgia" this week! Awesome list and video, i think i remember most of these EXCEPT #1. But it was great to hear you laugh even while you're sick! Hope you get better soon 👍
I was NOT expecting to see Jerry's cousin in this video but it's greatly appreciated! I think Muscles is definitely an underrated character and I'm glad to see him get the praise he deserves! Btw, he actually did appear again in one of the future reboots as a reoccurring character and I think he was pretty good in that too!
24:07 For those wondering what Tom says and why, he says "Don't you believe it", which is referencing a popular American radio program airing in the 30s. It was about debunking popular myths. So basically it was the prototype for Mythbusters. What Tom is doing here is referencing that he just debunked a myth and then repeating the popular catchphrase.
He also said that in and episode where there is a white mouse that engeasted explosives, and Jerry paints himself white, and at the end,a news bulletin says the mouse won’t explode, the real white mouse is kicked out the window and explodes, and the bulletin is said again on the partly broken radio, and Tom rises out of the rubble, and says”Don’t you believe it”
Cat Concerto is really special to me as for the most part. It's animated accurately. Almost every note is played correctly lol Also, since almost these episodes were technically from one era, and if you ever want to do this again, I would suggest maybe doing a top 11 best and worst list for each era, as a lot of Tom and Jerry's shows are vastly different from each other lol
I'm so happy at his #1 choice because it's mine too. For ALL the same reasons. Tom's double scream of pain NEVER fails to crack me up. I'm 33 and still laugh like 5-year-old me who watched these cartoons religiously. I needed this episode for the laughs. Thanks, Doug/NC!! ❤😂
This is by far my new favorite episode! I always found it hilarious that Tom’s voice was never consistent but boy when Doug called out that super weird voice they gave him😂😭
It was a tag line from an old radio show called "don't you believe it" were they would debunk thing like Myth Busters or Pen & Tellers B.S. with some Ripley's Believe it or Not facts tossed in.
#1 was absolutely right! I watched Tom and Jerry A LOT as a kid (pretty much not at all as an adult, sadly) and i still have very fond memories of "Jerry and Jumbo". It made me and my cousin lose it over and over again whenever we watched it. "Solid Serenade" as well.
Watching this was so nostalgic. I haven't watched this show in years but I used to watch it all the time on Boomerang as a kid! I remember all of these episodes despite not seeing any of them in over 12 years.
One slapstick moment I keep on going back to was in Cue Ball Cat, when Tom throws a snooker ball the Jerry dodges, only for it to bounce off the table edge and straight back into Thomas’ face causing it to cave in with the best sound effect. To top it off, Thomas’ angry face “pops” out of the little crater that’s formed with equal hilarity, with a face filled with both anger and abject embarrassment at what just occurred.
For me, honestly, #1 was Kitty Foiled. That is the one episode that never fails to make me ugly-laugh, and give me chills. That ending, with the train, it reaches Heavenly Puss-levels of dread, because after the whole fakeout of Tom thinking he died, to switching the position to Jerry thinking he's about to die, and the fact that Jerry legit PRAYS, is some of the most hilarious yet terrifying scenes I watched as a kid. Oh, and the music, Barber of Seville, it HITS. They even made the percussion mimic the sound of a speeding train to add to the atmosphere. I legit refer to it as anxiety music. Keep in mind, I saw this as a kid, so as it got to the train scene, I was legitimately scared that this was it, that Jerry was going to finally get axed. And again, Jerry started PRAYING.
@@aplive58The whole short is. This is also one of the few shorts with Tom being an absolute moron and falls to Jerry's fakeouts. Heck, it happens TWICE.
One of my favorite episodes of The Powerpuff Girls was when Blossom discovers her ice breath. She asks what she should do with it and Bubbles suggests she freeze the floor like in Tom & Jerry.
Hey, Doug. My brother had shingles once, and I fully understand the struggle. It's been a fair while since you've done a Top 11 list, and this is a great comeback.
I had a DVD collection called "Greatest Chases" that I watched so much that the DVD became unplayable. My favorite was Zoot Cat, hearing Tom sound like both a hip young guy and immediately swap to the suave French Gablesque voice is comedy gold.
I'm personally not the biggest T&J fan, but I love how passionate you are about it! Thanks for getting us a video this week, hope you feel better soon!
My two favorites are Jerry's cousin and Pecos pest. the weird this is though, the majority of the episodes compete for the third spot. There really weren't many bad episodes in the original run.
15:57 Jerry didn't have to run from that train. He would've fit under it. Also, I watched the versions of Tom & Jerry episodes without Mammy Two-Shoes, and they're arguably more boring. The actress doesn't sound as interesting or violently scary, which was part of the joke.

The "tom & Jerry" shorts are always funny consider the lead stars don't talk but the movie came out Honest (well that was...) but I'll leave with this line "Don't you believe it"
I gotta say, there’s something that warms my heart hearing Doug give a genuinely good laugh to Tom’s pain
How could you NOT burst into laughing seeing that!? XD
I think I laughed harder at his reaction than I ever have at the actual moment, and now I can't watch that point without laughing hard.
Be well Doug.
Fun fact: In the very first short, Tom's name was Jasper. It was changed to Tom to basically denote that he was just your average "tom" cat trying to deal with an overly clever mouse.
Sylvester from the Tweety cartoons also had a name change. Originally he was called Thomas, but got changed.
Jasper actually remained as a middle name. His name is Thomas Jasper Cat Sr.
And Jerry’s original name was Jinx in the first episode

By the way, the sound clip of Tom saying "don't you believe it" was taken from an old radio program of the same name, "Don't You Believe It!" The radio show was about debunking a bunch of myths. When you think about that, it makes perfect sense in why they used that clip in this episode of Tom and Jerry.
OH IS THAT WHAT HE SAYS? That's been bothering me ever since he first showed that Part.
That scene used to freak me out all the time
They used the same voice in the episode with the explosive white mouse that escaped from a lab, as seen in the clip "Don't You Believe It! (Tom And Jerry)" here on UA-cam.
It was that episode especially that scared me
@@principals16842They used it twice in Mouse Trouble and The Missing Mouse.

haha, same here. Some kids follow their dreams just a bit too far
Makes me wonder how many kids tried to do that in their parents' kitchens!!
I remember Mammy Two Shoes, in all the episodes she was in, she was my favorite in all of them!! To me she was an important character in those episodes and could never be topped by the rest of Tom’s owners. Nor will she ever be, she’s number one to me.
Абсолютно согласна!!!
Yeah, she was so funny.
The married couple that brought in Spike to the family dynamic was pretty fun, but nothing tops her.
While I do believe that she was meant to be a caricature, it could've been worse- I mean she's a single, independent hard-working woman, that's able to afford a nice house in a nice neighborhood and be able to afford the lastest fashion, jewelry and electronics.
@@annabaker8137 As a European, I never understood what the issue is. She was always awesome to me.
As far as racial caricatures go, she inoffensive compared to many of the other ones at the time (coughthecensured11cough) and i agree with Whoopi.
I was just thinking of that one too. Timid Tabby. It's basically the reverse of Jerry's Cousin.
It is called timid tabby and it's one of my favorite Tom and Jerry episodes
@@NgwaLionelChe-mi2yw I think one of the reasons it's so well liked might be because it's one of only a handful of shorts where Tom comes out on top...it's like seeing Bugs Bunny get the short end of the stick at the end of a short..it sticks with you. Lord knows I've been using the "OOOH I'm DYING again!" quote for decades when something tedious gets too annoying. That came from Bugs Bunny from the end of the short where he had to help the little penguin get back home.
@@ShinKyuubi same goes with Daffy duck, Sylvester and wile coyote
It's crazy how Tom & Jerry are almost 85 years old and still feel so fresh and new
They don't make em like this anymore!
This is what you call a timeless cartoons
Good slapstick is immortal.
True humor is immortal and immune to "modern" standards.
T&J, Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker... 1940 gave us quite a number of them!
You got that right.
Damn straight. I'm going to watch them after this
I agree with you on that one.
100% agree! Thanks so much Dan!
Even though I thought Tom and Jerry show was alright, I have to agree. One of the few old school cartoons I grew up with that I still like. I don't feel like I'm too old for it unlike the smurfs... Another show my mom showed me as a kid.
the episode with tom saying 'our love is like a ROARING flame...!' while in a tacky suit is my absolute favourite
The zoot suit cat (1944)
Back in the 1940s, those suits were what the hip ones wore.
@NJGuy1973 that is very true.
XD
I have come to understand that not only did the coolest cats wore zuit suits, but also wore an onion on their belts.
That, tied with car concerto and mouse trouble are my favorite tom and jerry shorts of all time
Yeah! I love Yankee Doodle Mouse!
Let's hope we never get a lifeless remaster in the future
I turned 21 this past Thursday, and I still watch this cartoon
25:31
Love the one when Tom wears a zoot suit. His monologue where he talks about how she sets his soul on fire while Jerry is giving him a hot foot is just comedy gold. Then there's the same monologue in a different short where Spike takes the place of the female cat without Tom realizing it.
🎵"ONE MORE TIME"🎵
I swear that is the chattiest Tom & Jerry episode; even Jerry has a line. A symphony of slang, of which a couple terms still hold up.
There was a cartoon which Tom and Jerry talk to each other When Mammy throws Tom out and a bored Jerry waving a white flag finds him they both make a plan to get him back in the house
@@mikejorsch304(whisper) "Hey! You wanna get back in the house, don'tcha?"
I believe that one also won an Oscar ❤
In fact, it's the first short to won an Oscar, definitely a huge achievement for the MGM cartoon studio
That’s one of my favorites as well!
My all time favorite too and was surprised it wasn't on Doug's list
The Bodyguard is one of my favorites mostly for that one moment Tom catches Jerry then evilly laughs and says, "In me power" in that low voice. 😂
Cat concerto is THE best episode. The talent that it took to make everything revolve around and act in time with the music is incredible.
that's my favorite as well, it's what I always think of first when I think of Tom & Jerry. I think I watched it as a child more than any other episode. As a person who did and still does love music, it's an absolute blast.
I remember when I sat at my bedside and pretended to perform the piece
Pecos Pest has to be my favorite episode. The song Uncle Pecos was singing is still in my mind years after seeing it, and Tom’s panic every time Pecos's guitar string broke still make me laugh every time.
Thank you! Someone else gets it!!! Me too!!! I can't forget that song 😂
That was the name! I couldn't remember it! But his stutter still makes me laugh to this day!
The main highlight, hands down, was when he started attacking the door Tom was hiding behind with an axe.

Погуглите про "рождественское перемирие"
You know it's a good day when the Nostalgia Critic uploads a new top 11 list!
Not for him 0:20, but, yeah...
Agreed 👍
Because he likes to go one step beyond
Kitty Foiled is still my all time favorite, not only due to the pleasant dynamic between Jerry and the canary, but because of the ending sequence. My heart races every time I watch it.
Not to mention the kick ass music!
I'm surprised that episode didn't even make the runners-up list for this video.
My mum loves this episode she loves the train scene at the end
I love Mammy Twoshoes. She’s hilarious. Her bursting home still had me laughing 20 years after seeing it the first time.
I think it was the only time they showed her face. Even if it was just for a split second.
@@chubbyninja89ya, when i wss young i didnt see her as anythibg else besides a the Lady who had to deal with Tom and Jerrys antics
@@Will_Rules
Oh yeah.
I get that she may have started out as just another stereotype, but I do think that her design and all seemed to evolve to be a more respectable woman, who just so happen to be black
She also had a fantastic voice. Just the way she exclaimed "Thomas!" is comedy gold.
Tom screaming through the roof in Mouse Trouble is what makes the episode a classic. Imagine seeing that for the first time 😂
The episode where the couple are arguing whether to get rid Tom or Spike will always be my favorite.
I actually grew up hearing the scores of Scott Bradley more than Carl Stalling
He's brilliant. Something a lot of modern Tom and Jerry releases are missing is that elegant, jazzy score. Instead they just put on various chimes and jingles over the animation
10:00 That look of Tom has gotten me to laugh more than any other comedy show I've watched in the last year alone

Doug laughing so hard from Tom's screaming in turn made me laugh so hard I rewound it several times! 🤣
I also started laughing. 😂
Yes! I LOVE the short with the puppy. "Puppy Tale." It's extremely sweet and the puppy is adorable.
The firecracker one qhere a grater shaves tom.and it ends woth bro getring shot into the sky and.blowing up?
Oh yeah, That firecracker war was amazing! :)
The duality of man. (and cat, and mouse).
I always thought “mammy” was a power move, she was a POC and I always thought she was meant to be a well off, home owning “girl boss”
Plus, how believable is it that a teeny white girl would be able to bust through a door?
Nuh-uh.
I don't buy it.
She’s not though
@ohhmanngodddamm9373 she IS though
@@WraythSkitzofrenik
Tom and Jerry is from the Jim Crow era. Back then black people, especially (single) women were not “well off, home owning girl bosses”. They just weren’t
Also, the name Mammy directly references the ‘aunt’ figure, house slaves tasked with looking after the house and/or children of her masters. Her entire character is essentially a caricature of this exact mammy figure
When the show first aired there was no ambiguity about this, people knew what they were watching and they knew what Mammy Two Shoes was representing.
Entertainment media has always asserted and reasserted racial stereotypes and caricatural depictions of non-white cultures.
There’s a video here on YT, “Disturbingly Racist Moments in Cartoons” by Cinemaniacs that gives examples of this
When Whoopi Goldberg says that we can’t and shouldn’t forget this part of history, she’s not referring to the time when single black women were home owning girl bosses.
That was the 1953 short, Jerry and Jumbo
God that one was hilarious. Didn't it end with Tom thinking he went insane, then run off laughing to lock himself up in a Psych Ward?

Mouse in Manhattan was one of my all time favorite episodes in this list. From the music to the backgrounds, everything blends together so well. Story wise, it was interesting and comedic. Art wise, absolutely amazing. 😌
I love the music in that short
Cruise Cat has my favourite moment in T&J. The two literally take a break from fighting each other to watch an episode of T&J in a movie theatre like it’s a normal thing. I love it.
I saw Cruise Cat on Whiskers Away in my childhood, and when it got to the part where Texas Tom was playing in the theater, I first thought that was going to be the rest of the short. Ironically, Texas Tom was also included on Whiskers Away 6 shorts later.
Both respective shorts came out in 1950 and 1952
Especially with the famous "HELP GOD!! LET ME OU- *BOOM*"
One thing that bugged me is that Jerry started it a lot of the time and never got much comeuppance.
@@bluespirit5112Spring time for Thomas (1946) was the episode
@bluespirit5112 that was in 2007 from Tom and Jerry Tales
Honestly, I feel like they need more comeuppance episodes for jerry. After all, Turnabout is Fair Play.
19:44
When I was a kid I never realized the voice actually came from Jerry, I always thought one of the cats was scat singing or something 😂
That short is Kitty Foiled.
I agree i really like her as a chatacter. Also not often you see a single woman with that much agency and general power in cartoons from that era.
😐
Thanks critic - I’ve now been playing that scene with Tom and the bear trap on loop, and I was almost at the point of being stretchered out of the building in fits of uncontrollable laughter 😂
Tee for two will forever be my favorite Tom and Jerry sketch. The scream he has when all the bee's get into his mouth is legendary
This video was a test of my memory
I’m so proud that I remember all these classic episode 😂

It's been so long since we had another Top 11 list. Doug always liked going one step beyond.
I recognize all 3 shorts mentioned, as they were included on the vhs/dvd Paws For A Holiday, which I saw multiple times in my childhood.
@@camdencoblentz3245 THAT’S it! I had the dvd, too (at least for a while), but I couldn’t remember what it was called.
So good.
The suicidal ducking😂 The love he has for Tom as his “mom” is just hilarious dark humour!
Absolutely, and great voice acting too with Tom's unexpected "Nooo!" when he catches the duck. You can really feel Tom's panic and desperation.
Tom and Jerry is art and I highly recommend the Orchestra videos on UA-cam as they are amazing and hardened professional musicians are having the time of their lives doing the amazing music justice.
two episodes I have to point out are:
1) _Designs of Jerry_ - very fun animation of chalk figures in a chalk world.
Fr
My all time favorite moment was in "Cruise Cat". Tom screaming and shouting being stuck in that basement with a stick of dynamite cracks me up Everytime!!
Surprisingly, on the subject of Jerry’s cousin muscles, he did appear in a couple of episodes of the Tom and Jerry show. He had an out of character appearance in Tom and Jerry the magic ring, and was the final character to rescue in Tom and Jerry mouse attacks for the game boy color
Feels like we haven’t had a top 11 video in awhile. It was kind of refreshing and I hope we get some more here and there

I also remember a character similar to him appearing in the "The Magic Ring" film.
Cool to know that's he's used more frequently, in the reboot. :)
@@Canibar13 Oh yeah! I wonder why they used his design for a completely different character.... they must have not felt like making a new model.

Thanks for telling everyone
He also said that in and episode where there is a white mouse that engeasted explosives, and Jerry paints himself white, and at the end,a news bulletin says the mouse won’t explode, the real white mouse is kicked out the window and explodes, and the bulletin is said again on the partly broken radio, and Tom rises out of the rubble, and says”Don’t you believe it”
Cat Concerto is really special to me as for the most part. It's animated accurately. Almost every note is played correctly lol
Also, since almost these episodes were technically from one era, and if you ever want to do this again, I would suggest maybe doing a top 11 best and worst list for each era, as a lot of Tom and Jerry's shows are vastly different from each other lol
I always love Doug’s appreciation for classic cartoons! You can see it through the NC videos and I hope you go into even more classic toons!
I wanna say how great it is that Doug makes a video even though he's sick. On top of that, I missed his top 11 lists.
Eeet eees naht just a littluh... Spahk.
11:18 I’m, Im sorry 😂
This one moment just always gets me for all the reasons you think it should 🤣🤣🤣
You know its a good day when nostalgia critic updates
Tell that to the guy who has a rash on his head that feels like wearing a crown of fire(Doug)!
One I really liked was the one with the exploding white mouse, especially with Tom’s reaction when he realizes he almost made it explode.
Tom's smile when he's about to run Jerry over with the train is so memeable.
@@aplive58The whole short is. This is also one of the few shorts with Tom being an absolute moron and falls to Jerry's fakeouts. Heck, it happens TWICE.
Hearing him actually laugh completely makes my day 😂
My dad would show me and my siblings “Solid Serenade” all the time when I was a kid. It was and always will be my favorite ❤
One of my favorite episodes of The Powerpuff Girls was when Blossom discovers her ice breath. She asks what she should do with it and Bubbles suggests she freeze the floor like in Tom & Jerry.
Love the other time that Tom talks “One custard pie let me have it” Makes me laugh every time.
Just wanna say shout out to Fard Muhammad for sticking around all these years and always giving us absolute banger intros.
