At least I was a tad more interested in this plot than in the 1992 film. In that film, I found the plot completely unmemorable and the characters sucked as well. Tom and Jerry talked as well which was egregiously bad as well. Here, I at least got somewhat into the characters. And Tom and Jerry didn’t talk (minus the scene where Tom sings, though that was kind of funny).

Like Thomas & the Magic Railroad. It got the Thomas stuff right, but it had way too many human scenes & permanently screwed up the franchise because of the magic.
I saw an add for this movie on youtube claiming that “while your children are watching it, you’ll get a break.” I immediately knew this movie was gonna be bad after seeing that.
Wow. An outright admission of "We got nothing, but it could serve as a distraction to your kids at least". Well, I guess at least it's honest marketing.
Translation: "We really don't care about the people who know Tom and Jerry enough to give us money to have their children watch it so we're gonna make the next hour and 40 minutes a living hell for them instead of putting in effort."
Honestly, I still think "Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry" is the best Tom and Jerry movie out there. It was actually funny, well animated and the writing was good. The only other movie I could compare it with would be "Tom and Jerry: Blast off to Mars" which comes in second. It's also sad though that these two might be the ONLY good Tom and Jerry movies we'll ever get.
They used Original characters in each film and out of all the characters aside from Tom, Jerry, and Spike. Biff Buzzard and Buzz Blister were the only ones that appeared in both films.

"He's a little animated" had me laughing the most. Sometimes you just have to let the movie have their one joke like that, and I thought it was perfect. The rest of the movie.... not so much. I actually enjoyed the live action plot much more than the Tom & Jerry bits.
Moretz has had a few false starts after 'Kick Ass'. That movie "I Love You, Daddy" she was set to star in was cancelled due to the MeToo movement gaining momentum & the live action version of "The Little Mermaid" she was also to star in was dropped also. Actresses do movies like this because: 'The Show Must Go On'.
Michael Peña is a good and versatile actor, too. I blame the directing, because everyone is acting weird and unconvincing. Like Doug said, as if they were filmed during final rehearsals.
I admit I had never seen Chloe Grace Moretz (or at least had never taken a close look at her before) until now, and the first thing that flashed through my mind was - no offense to any fans of hers - how much her face looks like a latex mask. She reminds me of the disguises in WHITE CHICKS.
What really pissed me off in this movie was how Terrance was treated like the main villain for doing nothing while Kayla gets all the credit for basically lying to get the job. Also jerry was a huge prick in this movie.

Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry Tom and Jerry: Shiver Me Wiskers Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes Tom and Jerry: Robin Hood and His Merry Mouse Tom and Jerry's Giant Adventure Tom and Jerry: The Lost Dragon Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz
It’s still better than the 1992 film, as they don’t talk minus the scene where Tom sings. Though I can forgive that part. It was actually pretty funny.
the movie loses the spark that the original has. Nothing feels like Tom and Jerry besides the bland versions of Tom and Jerry in the movie. The producers just don't see the appeal of the classic versions and believes that adding relevance and "mature" substance will entertain the targeted demographics. And speaking of producers, some of them are really cringe.
This movie has given me a wierd phase . I kinda want To see tom and Jerry have crossovers with children sitcoms like victorious or the suite life of Zack and Cody .
Ironically, Kayla and Preeta have more chemistry than Preeta and Ben. Example: Kayla lures Preeta to a surprise wedding and begs her for a second chance while holding flowers toward her at the altar. *You’d be forgiven for forgetting Ben is the actual groom considering he’s not even in the shot.*
Sometimes I mourn the fact that there's no Calvin and Hobbes movie. Then I see what's happened to Tom and Jerry. I am now glad there's no Calvin and Hobbes movie.
What surprise me is that in the tiger scene they show Paolo Bonolis, a television host, who interact with Delaney. I don't know why is in this movie but... it put a smile in my face because he is of the few things I save of this movie. 🇮🇹
Surprised that you covered this movie before even covering Tom Hooper's Cats movie. Also, another movie I hope that you would cover would be Music, that movie by Sia that was blasted for its harmful and caricaturized portrayal of autism.
I do have a personal problem with how Tom and Jerry are played here; for the cartoons to work, Tom has to be the designated antagonist and while Jerry need not always be super sympathy he still needs to be slighted at first... here both have a goal (Tom to play the piano and Jerry to find a home) but Jerry is the one who starts the conflict. Jerry is filling the role of antagonist instead of Tom who ends up looking like the nicer of the two. So while the slapstick works pretty much on point this role reversal changes the context and their dynamic, consequently making Tom's injuries far less justified
Exactly! To me, Jerry is nothing but a dick in this movie. Even when the girl politely asked him to leave, he just stole the bride's ring and refused to give it back unless she lets him stay. That's not funny, that's blackmailing.
@@kittycatmeowmeow963 You didn't watch enough Tom and Jerry back in the day. Sometimes, Tom was doing his job as a cat and protecting his home. In others, Tom would be minding his own business and Jerry would appear on the scene and when Jerry couldn't win, he'd usually get someone bigger and stronger to hang around to be safe or beat up Tom for him, Like Spike, Jerry's cousin, Uncle, The Mother Duck, Mother Hen, Elephant, Kangaroo, and so on. Jerry is USUALLY a dick to Tom, where lots of times Jerry's presence is a threat to his home, well-being, or relationships. Tom wasn't ALWAYS the antagonist.
@@kittycatmeowmeow963 jerry was an antagonist in his own right to humans as well, they made him go extra far, but he was shown to be downright diabolical to get people to leave him alone.

"Good enough" sounds fine for me. I've never expected anything much more than that. Just a movie that feels like actual Tom and Jerry without some strange ideas like breaking the "Tom and Jerry don't talk" rule for the sake of a story about some other characters, a crossover with other tales that don't have anything to do with Tom and Jerry or, Thank Goodness this didn't happen: a full realistic CGI movie pretending to be full live-action animals like The Lion King. The last one of these ideas would have been much worse.
I remember once seeing the Tom and Jerry movie in theaters with my classmates as an end of year field trip in 7th grade, and I swear, that was probably the greatest thing I ever seen, like, I've seen other Tom and Jerry movies, but this one is truly a masterpiece! In that film, I found the plot completely unmemorable and the characters sucked as well. Tom and Jerry talked as well which was egregiously bad as well.

That movie "I Love You, Daddy" she was set to star in was cancelled due to the MeToo movement gaining momentum & the live action version of "The Little Mermaid" she was also to star in was dropped also.
