Did this fix yesterday and it worked! Thanks so much!
You're welcome!
I am having same issue with 2015 forester 93k miles, called subaru north america, they covered/replaced the a/c compressor. Then the dealer said oh, might have to replace evaporator core, ($2k), did it myself. Same problem. Thinking to replace condenser at this point but not sure yet.
My 2014 Forester XT is getting a new condenser right now at a dealer in Orange County CA $1010 total diagnostic (250), parts (350 including Freon), and labor 5-6 hours. Hopefully they checked the compressor, and the rest of the system.
dude, it was prob just this problem... lot of money possibly wasted...
The aircon on these is on the weak side? Shocked to see 40psi suction / 200psi discharge during idle, made me think that the txv was defective and replaced it, but ended up with same gauge readings.
Turned out it only needed a recharge to get cold air.
How I wish the radiator cooling fans ran faster whenever the compressor kicks in to achieve at least 25ish psi on the suction side.
me too
Squirrellll!!!!!!!
Rocky!
Wife's 15 FXT just had the AC go warm...it's been steadily warming for about a year...but we just dealt with it...after it went out, I started researching and came across this same TSB 10-84-16R...problem is, its beyond the 3yr warranty now. My question is...If Subaru knew about the TSB and the issue...why didn't they contact the owners like they do with other TSB's? I don't believe its the consumers responsibility to have to continually look up if there are any recalls on our cars...smh. I've been a loyal Subaru owner (STI's/WRX's/FXT's/LGT's...) but the service they provide is horrible...Our local Subaru Service Department in Hawaii (Servco-Mapunpuna)...quoted us $3300 to replace the compressor and evaporator...I consider our car like new...low miles, well taken care of, garaged...this should not be something that goes bad without the parts being bad to begin with.
so... did you fix it and move on with your life, or you gonna fight the dealer for it?
oh wrong video. I fixed it in ep 121. ua-cam.com/video/KCTJV3CcPNA/v-deo.html
Can you post an update on what the issue was? I have same exact problem. Last summer my ac started not working half the time. Noticed the times it wouldn’t work the ac clutch wouldnt spin even when I had ac switched on. I also found that TSB so decided to just replace the ac clutch (technically the ac clutch is not a separate part according to subaru but you can find them online). However even with the new clutch, the ac clutch will still not engage/spin. I decided to just run power straight to the ac clutch connector just to test and see if it’s possibly a wiring or relay issue. Doing that did get the clutch spinning however I hear rattling from the clutch/compressor and also the air is still not cold. Im guessing my clutch and order compressor is just bad but it just seems odd the clutch doesn’t no longer spin when ac is on. You said something about a safety feature that prevents when the compressor is bad??
dood, you didnyt see the fix video? check episode 121 or 122 probably..
@@LastHumansGarage no, Im not able to find it.
@@boslet2 Look up removing thin spacer/washer on subaru AC clutch. Followed that advice and mine has been perfect and this is the 3rd season after the fix
I had the same problem on my 15 fxt got fixed by removing 1 washer from the ac clutch worked fine after that
really.... i mean might be worth a try. but did you do it or someone else?
I did the exact same thing 2 years ago in my car has been perfect ever since 2014 XT
Subaru is bad with ac systems. My 04 xt had a problem with the clutch where after a bit it wouldn't engage. You had to take off the face of it (the spinning part) and remove a very small shim. The gap was to big over time so the clutch couldn't engage. After I removed the shim it worked perfect. Everything that was happening to you in this video happened exactly to me. Maybe this is the same issue for you.
i dont think so. the tsb is about circuit routing in the older a/c clutch. and its a known issue.
check the a/c condenser for dark spots, we replaced foresters condenser all the time.
My 2014 forester XT AC just went out at 88K miles had a shop put dye in it and found some seepage around the condenser. Mine would blow slightly cooler than outside air out on one vent of the center console. It’s currently at the dealer getting a new condenser and hopefully o rings we’ll see what happens. 2 days at the dealer$250 diagnostic plus $760 parts and labor and it’s supposed to be done today.
dang
Unfortunately a little leak out of the seals of the Compressor, just happens over time...
true
Yeah, just a cheap o ring, but you need to put a 30-45 minute deep vacuum afterwards and recharge to proper level. It can be done with a few tools but takes some skill and patience.
what is the torque spec on the compressor?
oh man... its feel really, but im sure there is a real torque somewhere
ah man, AC problems can be a headache to get right sometimes.
we got it by shimming that clutch in closer..
How funny I literally did this two weeks ago on my 13 legacy same AC pro product but my system is still working, Just added some in
whoa!
Forester AC is not the best. My '16 Forester only blows really cold once you're moving for a time. The AC in my Outback is a bunch better.
ah our A/C is killer always... maybe your clutch is slipping?
Mine does the same. Did you do this fix for your 16?
thanks for the walkthrough. You might want to consider a new camera angle or trim those nose hairs buddy!
i trimmed them yesterday actually.
Good AC is 30+ below ambient.
ours is prob 20F below ambient, but its an old system anyway, and the house has a lot of leaks..
It looks like a fire extinguisher. Lol
true
Wife’s ‘14 needing this. Wild, my ‘01 RAV4 blows as cold as new. Subaru is no Toyota 😕Can’t wait to trade it for a Highlander.
its an easy fix once you have the tools bro.. 30-60 min fix..
LastHumansGarage but I don’t want to buy odd tools and then only hope I’m fixing or band-aiding it. Shot of refrigerant didn’t help and gap looks spec 😕
LastHumansGarage ok, I bought the tools. 😜
Alright, was out of spec. $17 and one shim later, back in spec. Fingers crossed for a hot day soon and success.
Still mad I have a $12 tool I’ll never use again.
lol those gauges are shit they never show correct readings, get an actual set of manifold gauges or take it to someone. although i think u have enough r134, i bet ur clutch is just bad
yup was the clutch
Look a bunny! 🐇
hmm was there a bunny in this video?
Time to trade it in for a Tiguan.
naw i dont want 2 VW's in house.. 1 is enough.
2016 Forester XT, leaking condenser, leaking evaporator, shot compressor, failed regulator valve. The subaru AC is a joke. Stay away from subaru...
hahaha sry for your luck my friend. We will have this Subi and its excellent. but we are looking for a new car soon. Maybe an Atlas.
