      Either of you know why the ‘21 Forrester CarPlay behaves funny? From day one my CarPlay will pause and then speed up as if the music/podcast was fast forwarded to catch up. No one at my dealership has been able to fix this. I’ve had to purchase a 3rd party wireless CarPlay dongle so I can mirror my phone instead of using Subaru’s.

      # 1 never buy a Subaru. , Two of the four new ones I have owned have had junk transmissions that went out in less than 50,000 miles, The last TWO!. Subura sells junk cars and doesn't care! Go Subaru, out of business!

      Great video! ThankQuestion: I have a 2024 Subaru Outback Touring. I have paired my iPhone to the car. I wear hearing aids which have Bluetooth capability. Right now the directions are given so that everyone in the car can hear them which is annoying. Is there an away to connect those verbal direction to my hearing aid so only I can hear them? In my old 2008 car I used a cord to power my iPhone and the verbal instruction went right to my hearing aids which was nice. The car did not have Bluetooth, so the verbal instruction went right from my iPhone to my hearing aids

    LOL! Just an hour ago I had this happen to me: “Why won’t the car start!!!!????” (even though all the lights came on, so it wasn’t my battery). Turns out my steering wheel was locked because I hurt my knee earlier today so I clung to the steering wheel for dear life when I got into the car. Figured out it was the steering wheel and unlocked it and the car started just fine. Of course, it happened in front of all my friends…. I came home and started watching your video and it was the first thing you mentioned. I sent the video to my friends, “Well, I guess I’m not the only one!”

    I just purchased a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and I just left the dealership and stopped off at my insurance company to change over vehicles. When I got back in the car and tried to start it up it wouldn’t turn over and I started rolling back and I ended up in the middle of the parking lot with people waiting for me to go. I panicked and I wasn’t sure what the heck I was doing wrong. Anyways, after about two minutes it finally dawned on me that I had to push in the brake and then push the Start Engine button…lol. A little embarrassing but a good “learning moment” I’ll never forget. 😂

      I believe even if a cloner can gain access to the inside of your car, the actual fob has to be in proximity to start the engine! It's part of the standard anti theft. Just don't leave your valuables inside if that's your concern? Ever had your glass broken?

    I have a Base 2023 Forester and I think the physical button that the Forester has for Lane departure makes way more sense. Most of the time I leave it on but if I'm about to drive through a construction zone I can just reach up and shut it off. Having a physical climate control knobs as well was one of the reasons I bought that car

    I use the PIN feature and lock my key in the car often. I really like this feature. Recently thought of this, but how do you regain access to the vehicle if the battery is dead?
    Found the tail gate part about setting how much to open helpful. Learned something new. Also, I like how my mirrors fold in when I lock the vehicle. Gives me a little peace knowing the vehicle is locked by looking at it.

    • @thisspotrules3631
      @thisspotrules3631 8 місяців тому +3

      There's a backup power reserve that holds enough stored power to open locks in case the main starter battery dies. It also holds all your presets ie: radio, drivers seat, etc if the battery dies or is disconnected.

    • @heikemotzek5954

      I have tried and tried, but even though the key is definitely asleep (I have tested in on the outside), when I try and lock it in the car, the door just opens again when I pull the handle, even though I locked the car with the button in the door. There must be a setting I have inadvertently chosen that interferes with this perhaps? Ideas? (2024 Outback)

    • @GaryBlouin
      @GaryBlouin 7 місяців тому +2

      @@heikemotzek5954 I just went out and did a couple tests. 1) I tried to lock the key in my 2024 Outback without it going to sleep. I locked the door and closed it. The Outback complained and unlocked the door. 2) I put the FOB to sleep, put it in the car and closed the door. It worked. Key is in car and door is locked. 3) I also tried what you wrote, I put key to sleep, placed in car and clicked on the lock button on the door. That worked too.
      Not sure why you need to click the door button to lock it. For my Outback, when I put the key to sleep, it locks all the doors automatically. I don't have to push the lock button on the door. Maybe you're pressing the unlock button by mistake?
      Other thoughts, is this feature only available in certain countries? Is the key FOB battery low? - I wouldn't think so since you have a 2024 Outback too.
      My suggestion - go to the dealership and ask for assistance. Or, if they are a bit far, give them a call but I think visiting in person would be the best case.
      I'm interested in any updates you may have / if it gets resolved and how.

    • @GaryBlouin
      @GaryBlouin 7 місяців тому +2

      @@heikemotzek5954 Another thought - when I put my key to sleep, I typically have one of the doors open. I usually put it to sleep at the tailgate since I try to hide my key back there.
      By chance, are all your doors closed (or the door your using is closed) when you put the key to sleep? If so, that might be the issue. If you're outside the vehicle, put the key to sleep and then use it to open the door, the key is no longer asleep. The key wakes up when any of the buttons on the key is pressed.
      Just thinking through some scenarios of why it doesn't work for you.

    The power liftgate will not open if the engine is running, or if the auxiliary power is still on (You shut off the engine but music is still playing) - you have to open the door before you can open the gate. Rather inconvenient if you're doing a grocery pick-up or have another reason to want to remain in the vehicle but open the gate. Also the lane centering will literally jerk your steering wheel, sometimes causing the car to swerve. My '21 Forester did that to me when there was a widening of the highway for a side road approach. I quickly figured out how to turn that off.

    That first one still happens with the push button start.
    I've had that happen on both a 21 Forester and a 24 Legacy.
    You'll push the button and the dash will light, but the engine won't crank. A little force opposite the lock of the steering wheel and then the push button start will work properly. This is typically only when there's a lot of force against the steering wheel lock, but if you don't know what it is, it can be frustrating.

    Great video! Thanks! Question: I have a 2024 Subaru Outback Touring.

    My question:
    Navigation Sound Directions
    Is there any way to turn off the radio sound while listening to navigation directions to my destinations?
    I can't be the only new 2024 outback owner having this problem!
    Thank you

    Alex, I have a 2024Subaru Legacy Premium
    Sometimes When I touch the double lines on my car's handle it does NOT lock , I have to use my fob. ( which is usually in derp in my bag).
    Can you think of what I might be doing inccorrectly , of some reason the touch lock wouldn't work? It has happened on three different occassions, teo of them in the same location.
    Thanks for whatever insights you may have for me.

      YES! I would like to know this too. I wear sunglasses and if I wear a pair that is different to the one that I was wearing for the driver set up, it spends the whole trip telling me to look at the road. Very annoying!

    Odd question for you--I have a 2024 Forester with the Limited trim. The dashboard has a more rubbery texture than my last Subaru, and when I tried to clean it with a microfiber cloth, it left a green residue (the cloth was green). Is there a recommended method for cleaning the more rubbery part of the new dash?

      Look up car detailing putty and you’ll find info. I haven’t bought it yet but plan to. It cleans vents as well, just press it on and lift it off.

    Thanks for the detailed information, although it does feel like there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong. We have a 2017 Outback Premium. No power liftgate, no sunroof, no lane centering, MPI instead of GDI, far fewer touch-screen functions. I wonder if Subaru would build us a new 2017 when the time comes to replace it? 🤔

    My 2006 Forester makes an audible 'chirp' sound when the doors lock, or are unlocked. This is especially helpful when trying to find your car in a parking lot. Just got a 2016 Forester ... the chirp is barely audible - how can volume be turned up?

    Hi Alex - considering purchasing a 2024 Outback. Wondering how the screen handles sunlight? Some cars friends have sunlight badly washes out screen.

    • @HopefulEmpath
      @HopefulEmpath 5 місяців тому

      I have a 2024 Crosstrek Sport and if I had any complaint, it would be that the screen is washed out in bright sunlight. I have it set to brightest and close the sunroof shade but it still looks washed out. I found a forum where some people fashioned a blocker of sorts using folded black construction paper folded in 3 sections and placed across the top and partial sides. Looks weird but they said it helps.

    I've recently acquired a 2016 Outback Limited with Eyesight. I'm planning on mounting a dashcam behind the mirror. Can the cables be run over the top of one of the Eyesight lenses without damaging it? Or is it better to run the cables against the windshield at the top edge of the lense?

    Got stuck for half an hour with my 2019 Crosstrek with keyless-fob that wouldn't start. Turned out I had locked the steering wheel. Everything appeared to start (electronic displays, etc.) except the engine wouldn't even begin to turn over. I think I accidentally "fixed" it by turning the steering wheel slightly while starting.

I’ll stick with the 2014 lol no I mean I do want a new car just features that are making her mouth good other companies are doing the same thing with that style locking. Just some new things just aren’t great. 2014 I have no problem. I make six significant sound.

    There was a change from my 2020 Outback and my 2024 in the adaptive cruise control. On the 2020 each change on the switch was 5 mph and you held it for 1 mph. My 2024 is just the opposite. After getting used to the 2020 I liked it better. Is there a way to make the 2024 the same as the 2020?

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  Місяць тому

      There isn't a way to change it. A lot of people wanted the change to the 1 mph setting so Subaru changed it for the newest models starting in 2023.

    Thank you for sharing these tips! I have one problem with Apple car play & iPhone 15 MAX. Our phones are connected to the Apple care play except one device. My wife's iPhone 15 max pro. I tried all troubleshooting that I could find on UA-cam or Apple site, yet we still have an issue with this particular iPhone. when it connect we can hear audio only with no other connection, like maps, etc. Do you have any recommendations? My car is 2020 Legacy Touring XT.

    I have a 2022 Outback. I noticed that it revs up quite a bit when you initially turn on the engine. It might run for a minute or two at 2,000 rpms before slowly getting back down to a "normal" rpm level. Do I need to wait for the rpms to decrease before shifting to drive or reverse?
