Unorthodox doesn't mean that you're bad. Don't say I'm disrespecting bowlers in this video. I love the sport of bowling and learning more about it. It's fine if you disagree with me but flat out saying that I'm disrespecting bowlers is not what I'm doing.
people should definitely know the meaning of unorthodox. most of these bowlers ended up being really good so absolutely no sign of disrespect in this video.
I always find this story pretty fascinating. When Amleto Monacelli was new to the Tour, he was told to fix his swing or he wasn’t going to do anything. Well, 20 PBA and 10 PBA50 titles and 58 300 games later with a HOF induction, guess he knew what he was doing.
Just goes to show how much bowling is about consistency. The “correct” technique is objectively the easiest/simplest way to develop consistency, which is why it’s regarded as “correct”, but anything is viable as long as you can maintain your mental, physical and analytical consistency in whatever style you bowl.
This kinda video is so cool to watch, its fun to see all the different styles! Just like everyone pitches slightly different in baseball, everyone finds a different bowling approach that works for them
As soon as I saw this video title, I wondered if Bobby Campagnale would be in it. He is a great bowler. I bowled against him when he has subbed for a team in our league. He told us his technique is due to him having one leg shorter than the other. To me that makes his skill all the more to admire.
Their bowling (no matter what style) is amazing! I'm a thumb-less (one handed) bowler with a three step approach and somehow I feel more comfortable hitting the pocket that way. Long as you make all the pins fly in one shot, that's all that matters to me. Great video!
Great clips. Hadn't seen some of these guys before. Well done! Great job including Mike Luchstein. He's from my area, and everyone marvels at how successful he is on the lanes.
jeffs approach is definitely a bit weird but he can flat out bowl, watched him casually throw 300 at thunderbowl, may not look like much but he’s definitely a force to be reckoned with
U could say that a lot of them just got different stances, amounts of steps and arm swing but damn is it intriguing just seeing some of these people with some of the most weirdest styles and technique I’ve ever seen in my life and yet it just works for them so well that it’s just hard to argue that they need to switch it up
When I was a kid, my family would go bowling almost every week. I'm right-handed, and always slid on my right foot. I was 15 years old and averaging over 170/game (my highs score was 267) when i learned that sliding on the same side as shoot wasn't considered "normal".
@@robertcampagnale1927 thats pretty much exactly how I shoot at my 6 and 10 pins😂 I've had bowling centers threaten to kick me out when I was younger, said I was "tearing up the lanes" and there's "no need to throw it so hard" . I've toned it down a bit now that I'm in my mid 40's. I only loft it to the arrows instead of the hash marks😂
Rudy Revs!!!! A lot of these guys end up in a very similar spot when they hit the foul line and the ball is on its way. This video has a few more unique styles but the truth is everybody has a unique delivery. We learned to love the style of Barnes, Jones, Rash, Weber in the 90s / 2000s. Nowadays, in the 2020s, among two handed deliveries, styles are unique.
7:05 - yeah I know that explosive anger you can feel whenever that **insert inhuman assaulting word of your choice here** 10 pin stands and you're doing all you can to avoid a genocide in your bowling ally.
imo he has an unusual release - a combination of spinning the ball and rotating it more conventionally. It looks like it wouldn't work for a lot of reasons but he can carve the lane up really well, even from deep inside, and keep his carry. It was great to see him win a major.
I feel like my swing is a lesser Novak arm path, where I've seen video of myself pushing it out right, then coming behind my head, but then getting my arm back in. Helps me open up, but I can get very tuggy if I lose my mechanics
Not even going to touch on the pwba, but need another remake with barnes, ,neumann, hannahs, learn, bowker, mcneely, and a dozen or so other guys from wtc.
"Hookin" Bob Handley probably doesn't look all that impressive to young people today but back in the 70s/early 80s, that was a lot of room to cover on the lanes.
probably because 90% of one-handed bowlers have high backswings (myself included), but I agree, it was unusual for sure when he first appeared in the PBA.
my ball hooks right but i’m a right handed bowler, I’ve been told it will ruin my wrist but there hasn’t been any issues with my wrist so far, I don’t know what my style would be considered.
As long as it doesn’t hurt while you’re bowling or perhaps sometime after bowling it’s not likely to damage your wrist. At least not any more than curving it the other way, throwing a large heavy ball with one hand. If you’re comfortable throwing that way you should play the lane like a lefty, trying to hit the 1-2 pocket instead of the 1-3
I see different bowling styles but everybody basically leans forward kicking the right leg back I guess I'm the only one in the world that rears back on to both legs instead of leaning forward wish I could see somebody else that does that
The bowler whose style is closest to how I bowl... Robert Charlebois. True, I know he's left handed... but he's the closest to how I bowl, well sort of.
Carter was an exception even in his own time. no one else bowled like him. In fact, I have a "how to" bowling book to teach how to bowl like Carter as if his style was *supposed* to become the standard style. Never came to be. The only other bent arm bowler who made much of a splash was Earl Anthony, and even his style was closer to standard than Carter.
Kudos to Belmonte and the pioneers of two-handed bowling. But some of these guys are just lazy asses who never had a coach teach them the proper way to bowl. Sure, 1-2 two-handlers on the tour is fine. But this handful of two-handers and their horrible form? Trash. And someone please teach Matt Jones how to bowl. I remember being 15 and bowling like him. Just like that. Then I said to myself I’m going to learn the right way.
Hey Nick. You should look up stats and get your facts straight before typing your non sense. Matt Jones is actually really good and I'm not just talking about on "China" as for myself I've had a good or day or 2 in my life. Goal is to knock over 10 pins, last time that I checked.
Lazy????? I couldn't hook the ball enough to open up a lane on some conditions. It took a LOT of hard work to teach myself to bowl with my thumb out. This was in the mid 90s so there were very few people doing it. I was going to Columbus O and bowling a lot of scratch tourneys where I could hold my own. I bowled both ways depending on the conditions. By the way, what "right way" did you learn?
nothing wrong with the way they bowl, just because its not the way you bowl or the way you were taught doesn't mean its not a good way to bowl. They do what works for them, thats part of bowling finding what works for you. Not everyone is going to bowl the same way some people learn different ways. dont judge them on how they bowl because of how they approach the line, judge them on what happens after the ball leaves their hand and reaches the pins.
Unorthodox doesn't mean that you're bad. Don't say I'm disrespecting bowlers in this video. I love the sport of bowling and learning more about it. It's fine if you disagree with me but flat out saying that I'm disrespecting bowlers is not what I'm doing.
I agree with this. I’d say it’s creative. If the style works, it works. No reason to change it then.

All of Belmo’s coaches said he wouldn’t amount to anything throwing with 2 hands.

As a kid, he was my guy. Stalking the line, and just cutting it loose with mad torque. He either won, or shot 150...lol.
Was expecting to see Wayne Webb with his one armed ball at his side start on the list
How old is Ron Williams now?
Ron Williams style reminds of Brandon Novak.
