That was a fun, exciting, historical video. Love the beach and the walk to and fro. The Jacobite history has such successes and horrible losses and sadness. Love the event and the parents made it out in one piece, hooray
Great Video as always, as someone whose lived in Scotland all my life (37yrs). You defo get into a bad habit of taking for granted some of the surroundings we live in. So its really nice when someone from another country comes and points them out. Defo need to make it to that beach now.
Saw Bass Rock in the background. My Dad used to recite a newsflash ? Bass Rock sunk, 3 men drowned, Musselburgh harbour frozen, fishermen walking to their work 🙄. Great to see you out and about and giving your kids the the kind of childhood kids should have ❣
Take it as a compliment that I liked this video before I had watched it. Once again, another beautifully put together film. Keep the layers on, Annie xx
Lovely views of North Berwick Law and the Bass Rock in the background! I lived in North Berwick (I’m Edinburgh born and bred though) for 10 years when I was younger. I absolutely love East Lothian, it has the best of both worlds, sea and countryside right on your doorstep! I’ve many happy memories of the county. ❤
Fab video that had it all. Beautiful scenery and Finnegan so cute loving the beach! Thanks for sharing how to make ghosts, so easy and they looked great. Finally, I LOL when the children 'charged' and your narrating was spot on!!😊😅🎉 I also like the fact you are protecting your children's identity. I loved it!
Such fun!! (and educational) the kids will always remember the great times and the way you showed them to have fun...it's an amazing thing you're doing. I'm so excited for you.

I am in awe of the effort put into you videos, and appreciate that you respond to your reader's posts. I live in Nairn, and enjoying your trips around Scotland. At one time the BBC was the sole provider of entertainment and news, so everyone listened, and on the advent of television watched: my age predates TV broadcasting! and consider the coverage of, news, music and drama to be well worth the licence fee.
Thanks for watching, Annie gets all credit for the video editing. We were just passing through Inverness the other week, so not far from you, absolutely stunning up there. We love reading the comments and replying, we learn something every time!
Thanks so much for saying this! We love showcasing the different areas with visit, especially for our US family, who were sad to see us leave. It helps us all feel a bit closer. That’s interesting! We don’t mind paying for the tv as the BBC kids channels we watch Sat morning seem to be well worth it!
Loving the Scottish sites you are taking us to. If you have watched Outlander the Battle of Prestonpans was an important part of Season 2 and the fact that the battlefield was a marsh was included along with the farm boy leading the Jacobite’s through the marsh.🏴 Thank you for your videos! A Gram ( of Scottish descent) from MO.😘
Wow a history lesson thrown in for good measure, that looked such a fun day out for the kids and I think the adults enjoyed it too. Loved Finnigan enjoying the beach, he is a little treasure, and the ghosts looked....spooky 😱
It was the British Army, not the English. Scotland and England had been united for 38 years. Three battalions of Scottish redcoats later fought at Culloden. Many Highland clans, such as the Campbells and the Gordons, supported the British government and most Scots also backed it. The Jacobites raised 300 men from Manchester. This was a civil war, not a Scotland-England match. However, glad you're enjoying Scotland.
The Campbells were pretty ruthless. They not only defeated rival clans, they also defeated the Spanish in Jamaica. The Scot’s were the fighting arm of the British empire..
Loved the video of the Battle of Prestonpans. That's my home town. I didn't go to it this year. I'm glad you are enjoying East Lothian. It really does have some lovely beaches and great eating places. Looking forward to next week's activities. 👏👏
Another great video! Finnegan at the beach was adorable. Love the ghost project. You're children will remember their childhood with such fondness I'm sure. Thanks again for another great one 👍🤎🧡💛🍁🍂☺️
What a beautiful heartwarming way to raise children. I wish all children were raised this way. Salute! PS; Old school days we used paper mache to cover ballons to make heads, but your idea is a lot faster! Well done guys!
rainproof and midgeproof. properly prepped for Scotland. Lovely beach for rock pools. I'm looking forward to seeing visits to the other side, the Island'y part. I'm 1/2 scottish, mother born in Helensburgh and I visited that area quite a few times as a kid (from my home in NW England) but I haven't been to the islands washed by the Gulf Stream, the water and beaches look almost Caribbean, although I reckon the air temperature doesn't match Barbados!
It's taken some work, but I'm slowly getting Annie ready for the coming winter months :-) Yes, Scotland's beaches can be beautiful, not quite Caribbean weather though sadly. Thanks for watching!
A nice beach, you can see Bass Rock from there at a different angle which was in your video. The reason it's so covered in white is because it is literally swarming with thousands, upon thousands of gannets, home to the larges seabird population in the world. Peaceful down there. The wee ghosts you created are brilliant, by the way, never seen anything like it. A nice bit of Halloween decor. As for the battle re-enactment, looked like a fun day out that you's would have had with the wee yins, they'd have loved that.
Yes, we love Bass Rock. Halloween is Annie's favourite holiday, so she definitely enjoyed making the ghosts as much, or more, than the kids. Thanks for watching!
You certainly have made the most of your time in Scotland so far. I love all the places that you’ve been, so beautiful. Finn really loved that beach didn’t he 😊. Bet you had fun washing all that PVA glue off your kitchen equipment 😮😅! X
They’ll have so much fun! Just don’t forget to wring out the muslin as much as you can before putting them on your bases or the drying will take an eternity! Thanks for watching ❤️
Great looking beach might head through someday with the dog!! Hope you guys are sorted for enchanted forest started to see some pictures last couple of days!
Brilliant, one thought for your ghosts, you can get puck lights with a lot of colours that would maybe go well with your ghosts, I use them at Christmas for a couple of things instead of tea lights, great video again.

I always have dog waste bags with me when I’m out with my dogs. Do people clean up after their horses or do they just leave the droppings there on the beach? 😂 thanks for another great video.❤
Finnigan (hope I spelled that right?) looks like he's going to be a lot of fun with the kids. Zack, take Mrs Zack to the West Coast where even the women are real men, that's real wind, East Coast is for beginners. The 'historical' re-enactment? I suppose it's a bit of fun, just don't forget Culloden.
That was awesome!!! And those ghosts!!! Perfect!! I died laughing when the first face caved in but you fixed it !! Yaaayyy ..p.s. what breed is Finnegan again? Will he stay small? Thanks!
Oh gotcha! Yes, we’ll ride horses! We did that on our honeymoon together, and it was hilarious. Zach’s horse was not thrilled and loudly moaned the entire journey.
Is blanking out the kids a UA-cam rule or just for your peace of mind, just interested as I have done numerous family videos but not uploaded them to UA-cam yet ;)
We do it for a number of reasons. With Zach being ex-law enforcement, safety is a huge part of this equation, but we also don't want our kids to feel like they ever need to act a certain way if we have the camera out. They know that no one knows what they look like, so they're happy to just be themselves. They also don't fully understand what it means to be in the public eye, so we would not put them out there until they could fully grasp that concept (aka adulthood). Great question!
During the re-enactment stuff all I could hear were posh English voices! 😆 Scotland has suffered so terribly at the hands of the English a lot of whom still own vast swathes of Scotland. It's shocking, the history of Scotland is shocking and sad. Another fab video x
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. I believe the re-enactment actors travel around doing all sorts of re-enactments, so not sure where they are originally from.
Great video of the kids playfighting against the fully armed (sic) government forces in the Battle of Prestonpans - who were easily defeated - of course. Was this family outing recorded on 21 September, as the date of the anniversary of the battle? Meantime, as you might expect, no Scottish battle is ever complete without a traditional folksong - win or lose. This is such a ballad (UA-cam video link below), mocking government General Sir John Cope for his arrogant prediction to teach Bonnie Prince Charlie "a lesson in the art of war" on the morning of the battle. Big mistake... as all he earned for himself was a Court Martial. Oops! ua-cam.com/video/BcZ4uMmF0vw/v-deo.html
Yes, the kids had a great day and they learned something too, which was great. The re-enactment was over the weekend of the 21st/22nd and we went on that Sunday, so just a day after the true date. Thanks for the link and thanks for watching.
Not a criticism but a suggestion. You blur the faces of your kids. Please blur the faces of ALL the children in your video. As a parent I wouldn’t want my kids to be seen in a stranger’s video on social media. Lovely video otherwise. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
