I've been thinking about trying Logic Pro. No prior experience with any DAW. I've reviewed many, many UA-cam videos for beginners and BY FAR you are the best. Step-by step, methodical, excellent teaching skills. Thank you!
This is really nice. I’m a somewhat accomplished musician who years ago did a lot of recording on old hard disk recorders. I messed around a bit with GarageBand in the years since, but became disillusioned with recording on my Mac. A friend talked me into getting Logic Pro and sent me an audio interface. After downloading, I felt overwhelmed. This video helps me feel as though I can do this. I just subscribed to your channel, and look forward to your help in my new endeavors. Thank you!
Hey Frank, thanks very much for the kind words. I know the feeling, it's definitely an overwhelming software at first. I'm glad this video can break it down into bit sized chunks for you.
Hi Charles. I have to admit. YOU KNOW HOW TO TECH THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏. I definitely understand how you explain. I love it man wow my mind was like. Thank you for teaching
Great tutorial, thank you. I really appreciate your speed. You're just the right pace so that I can keep up with what you are doing and not have to constantly pause the video. thanks!
NOICE dude, thank you for all clear and concise explanations on all the applications in this DAW. I just ordered a small studio set up and probably will get my Logic delivered soon! Appreciate ya homie!
Man you help me and my daughter a lot. You was the only one to explain everything with a clear voice. I'm 51 but my daughter is 14 years old so we trying to learn the Logic Pro X. We need to learn how to record music and make beats
Thanks, Charles. Never got really serious about Logic X but taking the leap as my guitar re-learning skills have increased, and I want to be able to record my own backing tracks for practicing (at least now). Plus I have the powerful iMac with a ton of RAM to run it now, not my middling MBPr from 2014 with only 8 GB. Logic stressed that machine out pretty bad. Going to invest the time in your videos, thanks! JB
Charles - I've been a PC user since the 90's and finally pulled the trigger on a Mac - w/Logic X Pro (and Final Cut Pro). It won't be here for a few weeks so I'm hittin' up some videos so I'm not blindsided by the learning-curve when it gets here. I appreciate the video, man. Very helpful! Cheers! -p

I´m having disussion with a friend of mine regarding connecting two MIDI master keyboards to Logic. The idea is to connect Roland Fantom (also to be used as a master keyboard for hardware synths) and Native Instruments S88 for software and main keyboard. How would this work within Logic?
@charlescleyn do you think you could do the logistics of hooking up everything for a little studio? Eg: interface, external speakers, midi ect Love your videos bro. Much love from Nashville 🎸
@@CharlesCleyn That would be great, Thanks so much man. Been building a small studio in our 2 bed apt for a year now. Now that I have all the pieces and bought the DAW, it’s like catching a tiger, “what do I do now?” Now it all just needs to be pieced together and used.
I have checked out your video and thought great, but you didn’t cover editing. Do you have another video for that. Are you running 10.5.1? Some thing don’t seem the same with my logic pro. I’m new so... Thanks Logic Pro bro!
Thanks, Charles. Great intro to Pro Logic. Thinking of switching from Ableton. Is it true you can import a drum track that's not played to a click and snap the grid to it? That would be my reason to change.
Very clear Charles, I shall try and follow this through. I am finding the jump from 7 to X almost like starting again!. Do I just search on your name in UA-cam?
Thanks, this has good pacing. Some of the tutorials I've seen move too quickly or skip over the steps in this video. I'm not getting any sound through my mic - suggestions? I'm using a phantom mic through a Scarlett into a MacBook Pro. The input and output in Logic are both set to the Scarlett interface. The microphone has worked in the past. The EQ is not throwing any colors, and the is no sound coming into the headphones through the mic (but I just watched your video and can hear that audio just fine). I'm sure it's something simple - I just can't pinpoint it. I checked the mic cable through another source and it works. I tried a 2nd phantom mic and still no sound. I suppose both mics could be dead, but it seems unlikely.
Hey Rob, that seems funny but thanks for the detailed description of the problem. It was easy to understand. My first thought would be, are your headphones plugged into the computer or your scarlett? This will affect what 'output' you should have in your audio settings. Another thought is, do you have monitoring on? If you want to hear yourself through your headphones monitoring will need to be turned on in settings to. Let me know if that helps.
Charles Cleyn Thanks! Turns out it was simply the "48V" button on the Scarlett needed to be pressed (presumably to power the phantom mic?). I appreciate your response.

Hey Charles - I’m a film editor and wanted to use Logic for sound design, but importing an AAF of a cut from AVID is a huge problem. The individual sounds are all over the place and not at all in sync with the image, edits and automations are lost!!! How do you import an AAF in Logic?
Hey Oliver, no problem, we can figure this out Have you tried going to Logic and choosing File > Import > AAF. Let me know and we can take it from there...
@@CharlesCleyn Yes, I have done exactly that. Importing into ProTools or Fairlight or even Premiere Pro works perfectly. All tracks arrange exactly the way they were in AVID, but once imported into Logic, it looses all information about track reference, time position, volume automation etc. All audio files just line up from the start, and doing move -> “To recorded position” doesn’t help. Any ideas what could be wrong? (working in Logic 10.5) thank you very much
I am new to DAW as far as using them for my own projects. I currently am trying out Pro Tools. I hate the fact that I need to have internet or cloud access to use it because of some stupid iLok. Does logic have something like that that the user must use?
