So I recorded a take of my grandfather singing and playing piano. The vocal was an audio track and the piano was a midi. It sounded awesome and was amazing that he was able to do it since his cancer has pretty much taken his ability to move. Only a few times a month is he able to have the amount of energy it takes for him to preform one song once. Well, with that said… the midi was armed for recording as well as the audio, but the midi wasn’t selected last before recording. This software has just destroyed rest of my entire life. Devastated.
Hey I can't record on my logic projects I've restarted my computer and nothing helps. I press record and and the red line moves but there's not recording happening. and once I press record I can't here the keyboard sounds
Hi Charles! I have my Yamaha p-125 plugged into my scarlet interface and want to use it as a midi controller. For some reason, it doesn't sound like any of the software instruments I select. It still sounds like the piano it is. I tried turning off local control on my keyboard, but when I do this, no sound comes out of the keyboard or Logic Pro. Do you know of a possible solution? TIA!
Hello Charles, I use logic on imac, I'm relatively new to this kind of thing. But when for egsample I record a section of piano for egsample within a 1 of my songs. I press record and rather than the recording commencing from the time line, it starts recording from way earlier in the track, so it sometimes records over a previous piece of piano that I'd recorded if that makes sense.
Hi. I have an issue. Im using 2 HW synths connected via USB Midi and for sound they connect via a mixer to a Steinberg UR22C interfac to my Mac. I create 2 Midi tracks on separate channnels, i record them... works fine. But when i add Audio track and want to record MIDI again i get both synths recorded in the audio track i selected. They connect via a mixer to same Interface UR22C. I simply want to add Midi + sound and then next midi + sound witout getting the other synths sound recorded. Anyone having a clue ? Using latest Logic Pro X.
Where in logic is midi keyboard sensitivity settings? In garage band I found it very easy here can't find( default settings are very choppy I must play on my piano so strong!)
Is there a way to mute the the sound of software instrument during recording only? While recording, I only want to hear the sound coming from my controller keyboard which I have monitored outside of Logic Pro. For playback, I want to hear the recorded track. Is there a way to do this without manually toggling the mute switch of that track? Thank you very much.
You are a really good teacher! Thanks for these videos. I have most of the samplers built into my logic that are shown in your video but I don't have the EXS24. Any thoughts as to why? TIA
hey Melissa, I totally know why. It's because I'm using a different version of Logic. They changed the name to 'sampler'. Actually, you might find value in me helping you learn logic pro fast, it's free too: www.charlescleyn.com/learn-logic
Hi Charles . I Purchased a Mac Mini M1 with Big Sur , and Logic Pro X just two weeks ago . I am learning a tremedous amount about Logic Pro from your excellent Videos , thank you , but I am having a small problem when using the Piano Roll , The pencil pointer will only put in one marker note at the begining of each line , say kick or snare , then will not work in any other area . Would you know how I can remedy this . Many thanks , Peter UK .
Hi Charles, hope you can help when I’m playing my chosen alchemy synth on a loaded track with the R hi-lighted I’m getting the sound playing great but not recording the midi notes all my loaded audio channels recorded fine , any ideas would be much appreciated !
Hey Charles thanks for demonstrating the built-in stock plug-ins, never knew this about this option. How do you record samples built-in the keyboard? I have different sounds in my Roland keyboard, when I record the sound from the keyboard, it’s doesn’t capture the sound in Logic. Thanks!
Hey Clyde, thanks very much. To your question, I think this would depend on where you have your instrument input. For example, is it going straight into the computer via USB? Or does your Roland have an output option. If it does then I would get the cord that goes from your Roland output into your interface. Do you have an interface?
@@CharlesCleyn Thanks for your assistance and quick response. I'm connecting from the Roland directly (square "USB COMPUTER" port on the back Juno-DS88) to a standard USB port on the Mac. What other steps you think I should take? Thanks again!
hai charlie i have problem when i record midi ok when i open back the tracks showing piano tracks what ever track i assigned earlier can u help me on this pls
Hey Charles! Great tutorial! How do you put your own samples/sounds into logic to use on your midi keyboard? Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Im still learning. Basically I have segments of samples from a song that I want to put together in my own composition using my akai midi keyboard. Is there a way to assign those samples to the keys and record it into logic? Thanks for taking the time to make these videos!
Hey, yes, that makes sense and you can do that quite easily with the sampler in logic. I'm planning on making a video about this but in short you open up the sampler and then go to the mapping tab; then drag in the audio file that you want to sample and then it will map to your midi keys; hope that helps.
hi sir, I have a question. whenever I record my midi piano, I always record addional one bar from the start(there is no content in the additional one bar). it kind of bothers me. therefore, when I want to copy my recorded region, I always have to cut the additional part. it also makes the piano's pedal effect gone at the joined place. please help me, thanks !
Great video, Charles - thank you. I have a question about how to set a particular instrment/track to play back a particular note vaiue. For example, say I want to set a synth lead to play sixteenth notes while recording. Is there a way i can set that instrument to only play 16th notes if I am just holding down a chord while recording? I'd like to avoid having to try to play fast sixteenth notes myself and then quantizing after the fact. Thanks in advance.
Hey Peter, yes, that’s definitely possible. So how you would do this is 1) add the software synth you want to play 2) go to midi fx in the inspector on the left side and add an “arpeggiator”. 3) then go in the arpeggiator and change the note value to 1/16. Boom! You’re done!
Hi man, I have problems with recording midi within logic pro x in a particular project. Whenever I record something all my licks are getting stucked in one rhytmic pattern. It's super weird and I can't keep on recording in my project this way. Can anyone help? I also have a problem with my sustain pedal. This problem only occurs when I use my keyboard as a midi keyboard. When I press the sustain pedal with my foot I always get a super long sustain that only stop after a few minutes. I've watched other videos and they had a good solution for their specific problem but unfortunately my problem is a different one. I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance, Imre
Hey Charles, I am new to Logic and have found your videos invaluable. I do have one issue that is driving me bonkers I was hoping you could help with? I have a Roland FP30 digital piano that I have recorded a MIDI file from in Logic via USB. All good so far, however the track in Logic won’t play unless the piano is turned on and when I export the finished track the piano part I played isn’t included as it’s MIDI. So the question is how do I manage this issue in Logic, do I have to make an audio recording of the MIDI track as it plays? It’s very confusing for me as not tech savvy on recording and can’t understand how I can ensure my MIDI recorded track forms part of the exported finished song. Many thanks in advance!
@@CharlesCleyn Hey Charles, the MIDI will only play back in Logic if my digital piano is turned on. I bought some leads to connect piano to my audio interface so I can now record the audio. Ideally what I want to be able to do is record the MIDI so I can edit and correct timing etc then record that to an audio track if that makes sense. I have all the components in place, I think it's just the input/output settings I'm using in Logic.
Hi Charles, In my version in inspector, just downloaded from apple 2 days ago (so the brand new Logic X) as part of the bundle, there is no alchemy track. There is a classic electric piano track and there is no arrow on either side with options for other instruments. I can double click the icon and get choices of a bunch of different instrument families, and even click to get one of those icons showing, but it does not change the electric piano sound. Any advice? Thanks
Hey, let me see if I can help. What do you see in the inspector window in the instrument section? Does it say anything? You can always press Y on a software instrument track and this will open up the library too so you can choose different instruments.
just subscribed, and have quick question how do I fix my midi recordings they don't start on time in playback, I record after the metronome but it won't play until I take the edge and nudge it back very slightly until its directly on the 1. its like it starts recording a right before the 1 for some reason, if this makes sense and you have a answer please this kills my inspiration every time
Hey Ron, I think I know what you mean, you can switch in settings for the recording to start happening a little bit before the 1. This way it will catch any midi that you may have started to play a little early. If you don't want to do that, you can draw the midi in with the painter tool or copy/paste and drag a note from somewhere else.
for some reason my Alesis VI25 will not show up. it’s not a chord issue, it powers on when plugged in via USB but plays no sounds when i press the key when in logic??? please help
hey Kade, do you notice a little blue dot on your control screen this will show that midi is being recognized... you can also try unplugging/turning on and off the midi while logic is still on. also, try quiting logic and re-opening, sometimes that happens to me as well. let me know if that does anthing
