Hi Charles. Millard Randolph Curry here from Central Arkansas. I ran across your Logic Pro 10.5.1 Midi Tutorial, and was very impressed by your calm, laid back & relaxed demenor. You present the information very well. I started using the early Logic Express when it was first available. In fact, I still use that old program & love it. However, I am in the process of mixing, mastering, and releasing 10 to 12 complete recording projects of numerous genres over the course of the next 5+ years. I started playing guitar when I was 7 years old when Dad taught me C, F & G. I added keyboards and several other instruments way back in 1972 through 1976. I was so impressed with your tutorial that I gave you a thumbs up, subscribed & clicked the personalized notification bell. I'm looking forward to watching more of your tutorials to improve my music development. So, Keep Up The Good Work Young Man! Take care and I'll touch base on down the line. Thanks Charles, job well done & very informative.

Hi Millard, I really appreciate the positive feedback and kind words. It's comments like this that fuel me up to keep going. I am excited to do more logic videos. Next time you come back feel free to link us to some of your music that you're working on, if you'd like, so we can have a listen!

@@CharlesCleyn You're very welcome Charles! I'm glad you got some encouragement from my comments. I have two of the 12 upcoming recording projects on a few of my music websites. Check out the song samples of the "Itchy & Thunder" and the "New Frontiers In Rock" projects at millardrandolphcurrymusic.com/ and let me know what you think. I'll be looking forward to hearing your opinions. I would appreciate that. Until then, here's wishing you all the best Charles!

I plugged an iRig Keys midi keyboard into Logic and it looked like it was working but I literally heard no sound! I checked all the audio inputs and outputs, everything looked right, but still no sound. And it’s confusing because when I plug it into GarageBand I hear sound, so I was wondering if anyone knows what that is all about 🤔

I like this, as I was watching I was like "Why don't I just follow along for practice." Honestly such a good way to learn. I used the same Drum Synth Kit and Steinway Grand but I didn't have that Analog sound so I pick one of the other options and worked with it. I tried copying the beat (I'm don't understand drum beats too well) it worked out. The piano part I came up with my own and the same for the Alchemy sound I chose. It was fun and also really helped me take the pressure off of having to create something spectacular on my first try.

These are great tutorials really do appreciate them so much! As a total novice I have a silly question!!
If you have an existing midi track, how do you assign it to a software instrument. Do you just play the midi track and click record on the software instrument track? Do you turn on input monitoring? Would you use the midi keyboard to sample the sounds in say alchemy, and then click record once you have found the one you like?
Mostly what I’m experimenting with rn is converting stems to midi and then assigning to new instruments...
    THANKS AGAIN!! ❤

Hey Charles…here is one for you. I have emphysema so my vocal range is now greatly limited both in range and power. What I’m trying is dropping the pitch of the song ever so slightly coupled with the speed so I can sing in a slightly lowered register, then return the recorded vocal up to concert pitch by returning to the original tempo. I know some DAWs will correct the formant so it doesn’t go chipmunk…but can Logic do the same? Thanks!

Can you do a video on working with midi with an external instrument like a piano in my case a roland rd 2000. My problem is I record midi from the keyboard and then it plays back but I don't have any control over the volume in logic pro x. If I record the midi to an audio track then I can change the volume etc but with midi from external instrument the volume doesn't work. Im also just confused about midi channels. My piano has 16 channels but they behave strangely to me lol. It's just because I really just don't understand how it all works ie the differences between triggering midi sounds from external piano vs using software instrument.

I have recently switched to logic pro for audio recording and currently use a midi keyboard to make tracks. But I was wondering if I could setup my midi keyboard as a soundboard for when I record podcast for FX like claps or transitions?

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  2 роки тому

Yes, you definitely can do that. You can program your keyboard to any command in logic!

Hey Charles!! I really enjoy your videos, especially this one - it has cleared up a heap of things for me. I really like how clearly and concisely you explain how to find the instruments. You have inspired me to make my own UA-cam channel to collaborate with other composers and musicians (especially since COVID made working in person so much harder!). Like you mentioned, I really need to invest more time in finding the instruments that work for me... so much work!! Thanks again - Can't wait for your next tutorial :)

Hi Aberdeen, thanks for the kind words and I'm really glad these videos are helping you. Lots more to come :-) that's super cool that they've inspired you to start your own channel, that's really cool for me to hear. Come back if you have any questions and I'll also be following along to your channel.

@@CharlesCleyn amazing! For sure, I will be keeping an eye on your content. I need to continue developing my skills producing and using the equipment. I am coming from an orchestral violinist point of view here, my mu-tech knowledge needs constant upgrading! It’s the tips in these videos of yours that help me out the most! Cheers! 😃

What I want to know - how to trigger record from an outside device like an ios synth (moog model 15 for example). I can get midi to logic pro, but then I got to route a bus to another input to get the audio. I figured out how to lock the midi clock however. Now I want to hit a note, and have logic pro x record without the 4 count intro. Maybe it's a big ask I don't know.

Hey, you can map a key on your controller as the record button if you’d like and you can also take the ‘count in’ off by pressing the numbers icon which is beside the metronome.

Logic is smart so just plug it in to your computer and logic will know.

@@CharlesCleyn THANKS BROTHER. I'M JUST GETTING TO THIS PARTY, ALBEIT A LITTLE LATE, BUT BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. THANKS. DO YOU FIND A MAJOR DIFFERENCE OR PREFERENCE, PRO TOOLS VS LOGIC PRO X?

When I record my electronica drum set into logic, I don’t know where to find the hihat control. When I import my midi drums superior drummer three, the Mary signal of the hihat opening and closing is represented as a path. And I need to delete that order to use the hihat articulations in the VST. But when I am editing midi in logic, I can’t find that control panel to be able to edit the link to the intensity of the opening

Hey man, are you talking about the velocity of the hi hats? Have you opening up the piano roll editor to dig into it?
