Where exactly is the event going to be? Which trails or even GPS coordinates? I can't find it on the sign up page.

I have always wondered how a trials bike would do in an extreme enduro event. I used to compete on them back in the 80’s and they were a lot of fun on tight trail rides and general exploring outside of trials events.

Great channel. So refreshing to see a dirt ebike properly ridden on dirt. Not that there's anything wrong with other UA-camrs riding Sur Rons with mirrors, and slick tires, it's just odd seeing dirt bikes on the road. Thanks for the feedback and good luck on the race.

I'm so stoked you picked the EM! I got my '22 Escape R at the beginning of summer and have like 20 hours on it, it's a an incredible machine especially in the PNW.
For stiffening the suspension I got Jitsie heavy duty front and rear springs from Trial Store USA and changed the fork oil weight to 15. Reiger also sells a 3 way adjustable rear shock that the pro e-trials riders use and comes stock on the Epure Comp.
SXS sells a full skid plate that covers the linkage as well, it's plastic and goes over the stock metal one.
I've also been toying with the idea of getting a different front sprocket to increase top end for when I'm going on rides that aren't as technical. CPD sells those for the EM.
One last thing, if you're tall like me (6' 1"), you can take the footpegs off and move the spacer from the bottom to the top, helps a surprising amount.
Can't wait to see more EM content!

@Trevor DePender This is awesome insight, Trevor! I was expecting to have a little more time to set this bike up before TKO but now that we're only a few days away from departing, I'm going to have to run the EM fully stock. The suspension mods you mentioned seem like they would be hugely beneficial. I can see running a different sprocket as well, the torque at low speed is great but it really signs off at higher speeds. Thanks for sharing all of your mods, I'll definitely check it out! 👍

We have a new 22 ktm electric…haven’t rode it much but planning on mods….probably a set of 85 cone valves and get the shock done. We own 2 electric motion escape r 22. You should try a 2 inch handle bar riser…I run a 2in riser, a ktm 85 front fender…it looks better. We also use bark busters with a thin hand guard so it’s easy to see around. For night rides we use a cyclops helmet light system mounted on the bike…..absolutely amazing. We are the Black Sky entertainment crew, so we have talked before.

I already posted this above but since you wanted to know I'll post it again: Some facts from TKO results that will blow your mind. There were over 300 gas bikes in Race1 and only 23 electric bikes. The #1 electric bike across the line finished Race1 in 3rd place overall beating over 300 gas bikes. The 2nd place electric would have won race1 if his grip didn't come loose and cause him to drastically slow down allowing 2 gas bikes to beat him. In the top 25 of race1 there were 4 electric bikes. That's pretty impressive for the first time that electrics have ever competed in TKO to see these kind of results.

I’m curious to see your take on the choice after the race. I would’ve taken the KTM for the fast sections as it would be harder to make up the positions lost in the fast sections when you have a slight advantage through the very tight technical areas where it usually gets clogged up and you have to wait for the carnage to clear

As far as I know you can use it to load up the engine when going over logs and stuff like that (while standing) but when you want to go really slow through rough terrain and you want to modulate the power it does not help too much I guess
That’s just a guess, only time I did ride the KTM freeride was on a motocross track, so there it was no issue… my own bike for trial riding is a 350 so I can only imagine how it would be.

The brake does not help like a clutch does. I've got a Cake, SurRon, Escape R and a GasGas 300. If you want to modulate your power better. Have a second "off" switch so you don't whiskey throttle it and easy easy front wheel pops. Splats. Double blips. The real useful tricks for tough terrain, you want a clutch.

I have really been hoping to see electric cycle rider get ahold of the nicot e-beast e moto…. It looks enticing from the money perspective, and it also has real geared transmission… but does it offer a good value when compared to others. Nice review. But you removed the LHRB from the KTM? Why? They are a huge advantage IMO. BTW, are you aware that with less than $100 in parts, you can run a LHRB and foot pedal in parallel? Cheers.

@Bob Walters When it was up on the handlebars, I could not get enough leverage for that rear brake to stop the way I wanted it to and high speeds. It's a great option on all the other electric dirt bikes I've ridden but I found it to be sketchy on the KTM. It works fine at slower speeds, for sure, but I eventually chose to relocate it to the foot peg.

Imo, I don't see any need for a clutch for this type of riding. I ride the Escape, LOVE it. To me a clutch defeats one of electrics biggest benefits. However, if you do want to hop from big rock to big rock, real Trials, yes get the clutch. There are times when I'm hopping 2 logs that are so close together that a clutch might have helped but I adapt and just don't need it for me. But I haven't ridden it much since I got the Escape R. I like to do technical terrain. I can go lots of places on the EM that I can't get the SurRon to do. It has more traction. More control. Some facts from TKO results that will blow your mind.

I dont quite get the clutch part. It must be that the fine movement is better with the handle than the throttle, as an electric motor does not have enough inertia that proper management with regen would not work. I wonder if the throttle should not control wheel speed more than power at low speeds. I am sure someone tested that tho.
