You missed one: The Closeted Anime Fan. These fans are hard to find, due to their unwillingness to share their love for anime publicly, and only do so in private with a few trusted people.
These types of fans are always lurking in the shadows. They appreciate the memes, cosplay, and collections of the other weaboos. It is possible for them to evolve into another type given the right situations.
This ultimate guidebook didn't include the closeted anime fan because they are so well hidden within society that it is hard to capture one for research. Manga readers are similar but it is easier to bait them out using manga sourced anime adaption releases while pure closeted fans will not reveal themselves no matter the situation. It also goes to say that the closeted fan is one of the more powerful anime fan types (almost like a non-sinnoh legendary pokmeon) for they are rarely seen and have condensed so much anime fan power within their closeted lifespans that if it is ever released, could possibly contaminate a 50 mile radius. They are also one of the more powerful fan types due to their kind as being hybrids of all of the other anime fan types. They have been a hidden type that doesn't stem from causal, weaboo, or elitists alone, but rather from all three of them simultaneously
I'm an isolated weaboo in an ocean of normies who only care about soccer. But i keep pestering my gay older brother to read Berserk because i would love to discuss the Guts/Griffith dynamic with him.
A real anime fan can watch the epic fight scenes and read the subtitles at the same time. Edit: it’s been a year and I’ve now obtained the ability to watch anime and read the subtitles *while* playing Minecraft

Some scientists speculate that memers and intellectuals have formed a symbiotic relationship, where memers gather in order to scrape excess bits of knowledge from the intellectuals. This process allows the intellectuals to satisfy their craving to spread information, while the memers parse this into small morsels that they can then share amongst themselves for nourishment.
I made a post detailing AniGamers. Sadly that type of hybrid is spreading at an exponential rate. And a true AniGamer can play a 100hr+ JRPG and keep up to date on seasonal anime. Where they get the time to do so is a mystery.
As a manga reader I can answer the question of "Where are we?" It's really quite simple actually, you see, we have already read every single chapter of any manga worth reading (probably several times) and so we either scour every manga website we can find looking for some hidden gem or new manga that shows promise. If we find nothing that interests us we go back and re-read a manga or two and we only surface occasionally to complain that "That scene was better in the manga" or tell people "The next arc is going to be sick; I hope they do it justice in the anime." However, since we have evolved to subsist entirely on manga we can't stay out for too long which is why you only hear from us occasionally. Hope I've helped your research.

You forgot an extremely dangerous new breed of creature: the AniGamer. While it was once a fact that a hybridization of the Gamer species with the Anime Fan species was nearly impossible outside of strict highly specialized breeding pits like the Pokemon Trainers, the explosive spread of both into large number of new species and general numbers allowed for a true hybrid to be born. The primary hall mark of the AniGamer is the ability to do what is once considered impossible: indulge, horde, and live BOTH heritages without critical failure of either side. This translates into a dual sided nature in less adept cases, where only one is active at a time as they must 100% the side in controll. Eventually they learn to do both at once, which lets them slide through the Gamer and Anime Fan populations virtually undetected by either. Its unknown how they possess the time to indulge both forms of media, but leading science suggests an AniGamer's nerd index has reached critical mass and thus begins to warp time allowing more consumption of media. Another hallmark is that they tend to be attracted to anime based games. This is their native territory, and where they spread their dual contagions to both sides, creating more AniGamers. The divide between the two major populaces will begin to blur and disappear at an exponential rate particularly since the whole world has more or less been consumed by the Gamer Plague. While those not indoctrinated into either have the highest immunity to AniGamers, anyone infect by either Anime Fans or Gamers are at extreme risk of contracting the other by contact with AniGamers. If encountered and already one of the two major types, your already infected and will likely transform into an AniGamer. There is no cure possible.
Peasant we who have ascended learned the language just by watching thousands of thousands of hours of anime without a single lesson can also watch without subtitles
Then we have the "God tier - Imitation Works" where you don't use subtitles by using a language you can understand in exchange however is the quality is always uncertain, thus an imitation of the real voice acting.
@@MrStarnger1 You haven't taken to account Chinese Anime (Donghua), which means there are potentially hundreds of millions of God Tier. Yes I can watch Douluo Dalu (Soul Land) and Quan Zhi Gao Shou (King's Avatar) in "RAW" :) Smile.
I am a manga reader too, but sometimes I read a whole series in under 2-3 days and I forget about it so I read it again after a while... The only times I watch anime is if its a movie or a lightnovel that doesnt have a manga.
And then catching up in the manga just to realize that you have to wait a full month for less than an anime episode... It's a hard life, but manga it's still the better media
Manga readers. We are in some ways, a mixture between an ambush predator and a hermit crab. Slowly waiting in our caves and shells full of ongoing manga series, waiting until they get adaptations so that we may emerge and pounce upon unsuspecting anime watchers with "Well I was into this before it was an anime", thus affirming our superiority whilst once again proving that all anime watchers have a shit taste.
PM Don't forget " I am superior to you because I have read the manga so let me spoil what will happen next and whatever I spoil is your fault because you did not read the manga but I did hahahahahah"
It’s true. I’ve been reading MHA since like chapter 20, well before any anime adaptation was announced and since season 1 came out I’ve adopted a lack of respect to those that actually watch the anime. Everyone is just jumping on the hype train. I’ve also lost 50% of my interest in the series. It’s a dilemma but the manga is just better.
Im none of these. Im the closet anime fan who doesnt own any anime merch nor mentions it in public UNLESS someone else starts the conversation first after which i surprise them by my unhealthy knowledge of anime.
The manga reader part was very accurate, I related a lot as am I one myself, except that when I find an anime or anime adaptation of a manga that I like, I'll definitely watch it entirely. If I didn't like something I started watching (which doesn't happen often since I select the anime that I want to watch and don't often jump in a random anime) , I won't pretend I watched it to the end.
ahahahaha, same here, i look at my bank account, im like, waao i really spend 2 dollars buying hot dogs?, naa better use those 2 dollars and complete 320 for anime expenses
I know where all the manga readers have gone! A long time ago they decided to camp all together in one place to read HxH until the end of the DC arc, they're still there. They only leave to check if Togashi is still playing Dragon Quest.
Ah, forgot Seiyuu-Obsessionists: The anime fan who will watch entire animes just based on who the lead character is voiced by, collect every and all interviews/drama CDs/songs and covers their favourite seiyuu have featured in from all dark sides of the web, and the type who will love certain characters purely on their voice actor. A rare breed, but they certainly exist.
Oh yeah, the kinds of people that put so much stock into the Japanese voice cast but can't understand a word of it and never realize that the Japanese performance is by default over the top and campy, like a Shakespearean melodrama.
I never considered my self a causal nor an elitist so I always wondered what anime fan I was until now. I finally realised iam a lifestylist . I used to watch anime all day long but now I have other responsibilities so i end up watching anime that iam sure I will enjoy by asking my friends . Also for some reason I spend more time discussing or watching videos on UA-cam about anime than actually watching it nowdays
I used to be such an elitist... and now I'm but a shadow of my former self, reduced to paying for a Crunchyroll sub that I barely use instead of devoting entire weeks of my life to pirate that super-elusive series or OVA 😭😭😭 On the other hand, I have a job, a wife, a really nice car, a house, and time at said job to waste commenting on this crap, so it ain't all bad 😂
Don't forget shoujo fans: Wholesome people who have a manga collection bigger than your rich uncle's house. Often seen praising artists online, they will spend hundreds of dollars trying to find the last volume of a 90's shoujo manga whose English publication was discontinued. While for the most part they enjoy cute and wholesome love stories, they also usually have a secret penchant for Junji Ito manga, which they will discreetly hide under every volume of Yona Of The Dawn and Fruits Basket.
I watched Naruto in 2015...after I started anime with One Piece and HxH...it is still very amazing and doesnt deserve all the flak it gets by people who dont even understand it.
I'm the hype beast. I mean, whenever I watch some 少年, I find courage and energy to work hard for my goals (for about two days, a week if the show is really high). But even after that I sometimes randomly get encouraged while thinking of my favorite characters.
I was surprised that the 'light novel readers', and 'visual novel players' are not mentioned. they're clearly an extinct and really rare part of the intellectuals species.
I’m salty cuz I spent $1700 on Rider Mordred’s Rate up and I didn’t get her. Yes, that’s 3,549 Saint Quartz for a total of 118 ten shots on a 4 star servant on Rate Up, and I didn’t get her. Mathematically, my chances for NOT getting her at that point should have been less than my chances of getting her....
7:50 100% correct, we manga readers have evolved out eyes to see faster and can thus complete one 24 minute's worth of animation but in it's much better manga format in 24 seconds.
There is also the endangered species of anime fan called the good taste in anime. You have a higher chance of getting hit by lightning 100 times, surviving, and winning 20 lottery tickets than seeing this type of anime fan in the wild.
Go back to your AMVs. People care about Sakuga and cute voice actor noises. Music only gets noticed if it is exceptionally bad or good. (Sadly, I am only half joking.)
*mentions FGO's summer event and swimsuit servants and the selling of kidneys* I feel personally attacked... but at least I have my Archer Artoria and one functioning kidney!
You've already seen a lot so try to talk about series or movies they've seen (if any). It will improve the conversation. Try to avoid being pretentious or arrogant about your knowledge, or else you will lose your new-found conversation partner/friend.
There is such a thing as good taste in anime though. My taste. My taste is absolute, golden standard of how one should judge and what one should like or dislike. The further one's taste away from mine, the more shit it is.
These days more like: "Wow, I really look forward to the day where the Manga catches up to the Anime." And then there are Lightnovel tards who think they are superior to everyone else because they have the ability to read poorly written novels about a boy trapped in a videogame with lots of big tittied lolis.
Can we talk about the Recommender? People who will be annoying you as much as possible to get you to watch their anime that they only just finished watching yesterday. But when you want to ask them to watch something, it's always "yeahh....sorry.....haven't gotten round to it yet, but I promise i'll watch it tonight! BUT HEY! DID YOU SEE ALL 10 SERIES I SENT YOU LAST NIGHT YET???"
Shhhhhhhhhh 😂My Friends Will Kill me.But In My Defence it is always a good anime...🤗🤗Or at least i think it is after all EVERYONE BUT ME HAS SHIT TASTE
I’m at risk of becoming a manga reader. Kinda. I don’t plan to or expect I will replace all anime with manga as I love the animation side of anime, but after I recently started reading some manga from shows I really like I’ve realised it really is a far more efficient way of consuming Japanese content. My reading skills, developed from years of reading massive chapter books, can read through a manga chapter at a rate of knots, and therefore I can read like 36 volumes a day depending on how much time I spend on it.
I have literally speed run this entire cycle in 5 months. Where the only thing that stopped my anime and Hent addiction was something more powerful than anime. Sheer depression gathered from watching plastic memories, angel beats, and your lie in April all in a row.
I'm 100% '''The manga reader'' because i haven't watched anime for a little under a year now but during that time I've read somewhere between 200-400 manga series and have been keeping up with around 150 of them.
You should try reading xianxia books. They're basically the book equivalent of anime and the stories have much more depth. 'Coiling Dragon' is a good one to start off with.
@Max Jones Nah, Animationtaku are a species that seek out the information concerning an anime including who the voice actors are. The VA fans however, actively seek out anime just to hear more of that sweet, sweet voice. They normally form around the voices of female VAs, but some rare male VAs can develop similar followings of naturally-formed VA fans.
im kinda a bit like that. the VAs wont be the deciding factor whether i should pick up a new show but if there are VAs i like, it becomes an additional incentive to pick up
You forgot about the "learning Japanese to watch anime" clan which further diverges into two types of anime fans, The majority who give up at the first day and brag about their ability to say itadakimasu and sing the first line from Unravil, And the 1% who actually continue learning and become ultra weebs that can wacth Anime without subtitles.
I'm what some may call a void lord, I enjoy showing people mind-blowingly amazing anime just to see their entire world die when I tell them there is no season two, or that the next OVA won't be out for a couple years. Void lord's are basically the drug dealers of the anime community giving people shows like Cowboy Bebop and Monster to get them hooked on the good stuff just to smile at them as they watch part of them die knowing they will never fill the void in their hearts that a truly great show left.
There exists a special subspecies of the Void Lord, but they differ from the main branch in that instead of showing them simply *good* anime, they proudly introduce their victims-to-be to anime that will make you depressed. Common examples include, but are not limited to; Plastic Memories, Grave of the Fireflies and Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.
You're fine. No need to worry. In fact, you're doing a lot more than what the broadcasters in the West are doing to ensure the artists and writers get paid and recognised for their work. I Thank You.
I like how you put the manga reader in black and white

Man I m a manga reader and my anime friends despise me for only reading and cheating the law of time consuming anime episodes
abhi Rozario me too, its a hard lifestyle
I am a manga reader too, but sometimes I read a whole series in under 2-3 days and I forget about it so I read it again after a while... The only times I watch anime is if its a movie or a lightnovel that doesnt have a manga.
And then catching up in the manga just to realize that you have to wait a full month for less than an anime episode... It's a hard life, but manga it's still the better media
Lance de la table are you me ?
you manga readers have friends?
Manga readers. We are in some ways, a mixture between an ambush predator and a hermit crab. Slowly waiting in our caves and shells full of ongoing manga series, waiting until they get adaptations so that we may emerge and pounce upon unsuspecting anime watchers with "Well I was into this before it was an anime", thus affirming our superiority whilst once again proving that all anime watchers have a shit taste.
PM Don't forget "read the fucking manga" and "the manga is better"
PM Don't forget " I am superior to you because I have read the manga so let me spoil what will happen next and whatever I spoil is your fault because you did not read the manga but I did hahahahahah"
It’s true. I’ve been reading MHA since like chapter 20, well before any anime adaptation was announced and since season 1 came out I’ve adopted a lack of respect to those that actually watch the anime. Everyone is just jumping on the hype train. I’ve also lost 50% of my interest in the series. It’s a dilemma but the manga is just better.
we are the one true race
Go D. Ussop Yep. I spoiled OPM to my friends cuz I read the manga and web comic. Their fault for not reading
Im none of these. Im the closet anime fan who doesnt own any anime merch nor mentions it in public UNLESS someone else starts the conversation first after which i surprise them by my unhealthy knowledge of anime.

No way!
We thought the Casual and Elitests were extinct! But it seems they've crossbread!!
Yeah... Me too.
oh my god I found someone who thinks the same as me.
Oh god The Collector's food part hit me right where it mattered. "Wow, am I really spending that much money on food?"
ahahahaha, same here, i look at my bank account, im like, waao i really spend 2 dollars buying hot dogs?, naa better use those 2 dollars and complete 320 for anime expenses

I'm surprised they did not mention voice actress fans...
