The reason I love haikyu is that it really captures how it feels to actually play volleyball. The balls that land inside your court before you even get the time to try to get them. How good it feels when you get a good set. (And the feeling when you give a good set). It portrays the emotions of the game in a way that a real game can't. A real game follows real time. Anime idea: Some children like to play tag, but it's completely over the top and full of symbolism. Like the fastest child shown as a lion in certain shots while the others are all kind of different animals. The protagonist starts of as a snail or something like that and after some time they become faster and faster, turning into faster animals, until they can finally catch the lion kid.

Haikyu actually made me become a volleyball player and not gonna lie that is what it feels like when I play. Sometimes the world slows down around me when I'm reaching out towards the ball. It's the greatest feeling.
Feel you, the same thing happened to me with Slam Dunk way back as it made me start to play Basketball. Its really awesome when the creators of this kind of sports anime is very passionate and respectful to the sport, it can make you be very passionate also. :)
no wonder chris paul can never win a ring. he needs to start tossing out speed of light basketballs and hope his teammates have golden gloves to catch said ball, then, of course, the teammate needs to make the shot. otherwise, it's a wasted flair.
Haikyuu and Hanebado have been my favourites of the genre. Hanebado also turned into a surprising chance to let me have more time with my father. He turned 65 this month and I thought I'd watch it for the first time with him on a whim since he played badminton till he stopped only a few years ago. During and after, he'd tell me that the show is relatable and he gets what the show was doing like a player's positioning and mentality. He's closer to a traditonal Chinese man, so it's always a surprise for me to be able to watch an anime with him. Makes me wish that in younger years I had gone way more ham into soccer (Sorry Gigguk, I'm Canadian,) so I'd have my own little sports anime world with him beside. Idk why I felt commenting this, just seemed nice to think about.
Yes! So true, it was refreshing how RWTW takes place in university. There are characters studying different majors, and there’s variety and maturity. I love lots of sports anime but RWTW stood out to me for that

It made volleyball surpass basketball as my one true fave sport and gave me the love and motivation to want to try the sport for myself and god knows if I didn't have so god damn much classes i would be in a course rn. Haikyuu the series itself was my "little giant", my inspiration to really pursue the sport. Same here bro, after watching Haikyuu, i got so hype up and i started playing volleyball. Despite not being able to join a volleyball club, i still play outside school in my free time

The visualisation metaphors in anime are actually very real! My swimming coach once did a demonstration where she got one of us to swim a two laps of butterfly and then told her to do it again while visualising she was a whale or a dolphin and the girl didn't only beat her previous time by 6 seconds but also had a big smile on her face rather than the tired face she had after the first time.
I have to say it, I love the Homework episode because we can see that these anime characters didn't forget their studies after all. That just my opinion.
Love sports anime. I also like it cause they dont make the climax of the show so over the top like saving the world and shit. the climax of sports being simple like winning a tournament is great and we can relate and symphatize with the characters if they lose or win. Its truly art
I agree. I think one of the most powerful thing about sports anime is that the stakes are low enough that the main team can always lose. Like, the stakes matter, we know how much they want to win, but the show can still continue just fine either way. You can't get away with something like that when the entire universe is at stake. While not quite sports anime, I think bakuman utilized this the best. Was always on the edge of my seat waiting to see the rankings.
In defense of the homework episodes, those are actually some of the most relatable. In high school you aren't just an athlete, you are a student-athlete. Part of competing is making sure you are eligible to play, which leads to grades being one of the most stressful things about a sport. That state championship you wanna work towards, it doesn't exist if you're failing math. Wanna keep playing with your friends, then you better be ready for that final. Anime doesn't really represent the stress that comes with class work and school, but I would rather have it than not at all.
I had the opposite journey with sports anime; they’re what got me into anime. I’ve been playing volleyball since I was ten, and when I learned about Haikyuu I gave it a chance. I loved it and wanted to watch more things like it. On an unrelated note, as a Swede it’s nice to see that you chose Zlatan’s goal. It’s certainly iconic.

One of those weird ones that made the anime driving feel more boring than real life motorsport (so long as you play eurobeat over an actual rally/drift event that is) and for the record I do love motorsport and have seen everything initial D there is
You may believe it or not, but after all of this time I always see Initial D not as a sport anime, but _art_ But I still agree that racings are sport. MotoGP is a sport, Formula 1 is a sport
tfw no Diamond no Ace or Captain Tsubasa are included (or Area no Kishi, which is probably one of the best sports anime out there where people can actually die and female characters help the mc team git gud skill-wise) also, in Haikyuu's defense, the homework/tests episode(s) had some of the funniest moments in the entire genre I don't remember if Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru came before your video, but that one was set in college and it was pretty great overall
Disagree with Captain Tsubasa. I liked it as a child but I grew out of it REALLY HARD. I realized that Tsubasa is just Kirito of sport anime. a "football god" from Episode 1 Other than brief stomach injury and ocassional shoulder injury, nothing bad happened to him and almost if not all of his teams ended up winning the championship titles.

For some reason I wish I could double like your comment. I always assumed that the AE86 was still not too old when Tsuchiya's video came out, so prices wouldn't be affected.
I mean initial D raised the AE86 a little bit but classic Japanese cars are pretty much all appreciating right now. Once cars hit a certain point they will only ever go up in value
To be fair the reason 86s are so expensive is because it started out as just a cheap entry level car then people started realizing how well it was at racing on hills in Japan and the old school drifters made it into a vehicle that everyone wanted because it was cheap at the time and easily modified same thing happened to the S13 S14 and basically any old Japanese "sports" car easy to modify and fun to drive.

What do sports have to do with your education? I don't know what you're talking about but some people can be great at sports but dumb in the classroom. If your grades aren't good, you can't play. "We'll never forget what you taught us, Senpai... We'll fight even harder to protect what you cared about the most!"
"Though you're no longer with us, we hope our feelings can reach you, Senpai!"
Wish they did a sports anime where the protagonist loses in years 1 and 2 just to make it more tense
Senpai are just sacrificial lambs for MC's development lol
+Nikolas Melo well that KINDA happened in Diamond no Ace, they lose the first year Koushien(the summer games where it ALL matters and whatnot), the protag develops a PTSD and the senpais retire to prepare for college exams so...... Yeah xP I don't know about the second year though, haven't reached that far yet.
@@TheMindofagenius1 yeah but every sports anime have 2 tournaments a year. Kuroko, Haikyuu and Eyeshield 21 all had their protagonists lose in the first tournament, but the senpais never retire for the second tournament... good for DNA for actually retiring the senpais

Or, track..
This is the best idea I've ever heard.
As man who used to love playing tag as a kid i think tag the animation would be an amazing show lol

Nah. Because its an anime u always know who´s gonna to win.
Why does everyone of Gigguks anime videos feel like an entire series of anime?

There is a literal Initial d Tofu tax on cars now.
well there was keiichi tsuchiya's drift movie that *intially* started the ae86 craze
i am not sorry for the pun
For some reason I wish I could double like your comment. I always assumed that the AE86 was still not too old when Tsuchiya's video came out, so prices wouldn't be affected.
I mean initial D raised the AE86 a little bit but classic Japanese cars are pretty much all appreciating right now. Once cars hit a certain point they will only ever go up in value
not saying that initial d didn't raised up the price (as you know)... i would agree that it was initial d that really bumped the price up
To be fair the reason 86s are so expensive is because it started out as just a cheap entry level car then people started realizing how well it was at racing on hills in Japan and the old school drifters made it into a vehicle that everyone wanted because it was cheap at the time and easily modified same thing happened to the S13 S14 and basically any old Japanese "sports" car easy to modify and fun to drive.

@@sirmel11 since when do class grades determine your overall worth as a player? Schools just do that to basically force athletes to hit the books more
What do sports have to do with your education? I don't know what you're talking about but some people can be great at sports but dumb in the classroom. If your grades aren't good, you can't play. School isn't that hard and if someone can't pass their classes, they shouldn't and won't be playing sports. That's how things are. This isn't even just my opinion.

I'd say this is pretty accurate, feel free to add/correct any tropes.
ImMASI Very true but Kuroko No Basket or Kuroko’s Basketball and Haikyuu!! (Cause I’m new to my whole anime obsession)[Does food wars count as sports anime?] don’t follow this
Wtf most of these closely resembles haikyuu's plot
@@AmenoHoshizora yes but they don't find out what they do wrong nor does Shoyo have a love interest so yes most of it does resemble this.
Haikyuu's plot
True to an extent for Eyeshield 21
I love sports anime not only you learn about the characters and their story, but you also learn about the sport. I hated Volleyball, and Haikyuu really made me love and respect the sport. The homework part I really enjoy because it's one of the most realistic parts of the show. In real life its hard trying to maintain a good gpa and playing sports. After finishing Haikyuu, I wanted to dive for everything! NICE RECEIVE !
Your music choice always astounds me. Especially the pullback and crescendo at 14:57 hit me right in the feels and brought me to tears. This is a fantastic tribute to sports anime it complements the genre perfectly.
He mostly used Haikyuu's OSTs. Go give it a try. ;)
I loved Haikyuu! I especially loved its OST, it really brought the show to a whole new level
Bruh this mans is crying at an anime video lol
He's the Kid with golden feet.

The takumura vs hawk fight is like one of the best in all of anime
Ikr when people talk about sports anime 90% of the time they'll talk about haikyuu 8% will talk about kuroko no basket 1% will say some stupid sports anime with bullshit superpowers taken to the net level and the rest will talk about stuff like hajime no ippo, slam dunk and ashita no joe
