Gotta love the Summoning Salts reference at the end. Can't wait for Matt Turk to break that record. This season really has tons and tons of shows to watch. Grateful that Garnt goes to the trouble of making these videos as it allows a show that I skimmed over to get a second chance, but it's also fun to see shows that he's made videos about before, Frieren and Shadow, getting another spotlight and seeing the man happy about them. May it distract him from whatever animal anime comes next...
100 Girlfriends really gets elevated to greatness by its premise. Where in most other Harem Animes the protagonist is either a completely clueless idiot or an actual sociopath, 100 Girlfriends made its protagonist be a kind-hearted boy who quite literally has to date 100 girls at once or else the girls all die miserably. But does he use that as an excuse to neglect or ignore his girlfriends? Nope, the chad literally tries his best to love all of his girlfriends equally. And because he's such a sweet, genuine guy, all of the girlfriends agree to this. ALL OF THEM.
Average harem protagonist: *either dense, or actively prevent from developing his romantic feelings towards any of the girls* 100 GF protagonist: *vows to make every single one of his GFs happy, and actually tries his best* 100GF really is the kinda show that I won't mind to watch 4-5 seasons of.
Ngl, maybe harem is not my thing. Many recommend that to me. Honestly, for me, it's the cringest manga I have ever read. It made me lose my remaining braincells the more I read. I do know it's for laughs and sh!t, but I just can't seem to like it. The more I read it, the more i suffer from cringe. Only managed to go up to chap 17. It's even more cringer than the isekai bullshits I've seen. U can read it if u are a harem guy or waifu guy or whatever.
It's typical crazy organization shit, that every seasons there's always a slot for it I think ppl just gonna be blinded with more isekai and fantasy show instead of that one, that's why it's one of the underrated anime of the season
Glad Undead Unluck got the shout out it deserved. I can't even watch the show (legally) in Thailand because of 'Hulu', but the manga really offers one of the most creative and genre-bending stories in recent years while keeping a fun tone. I just really, really hope it will be legally accessible worldwide soon.
As someone who has read the Manga for Frieren, omg they couldn't have done any better of adapting it. Everything from the absolutely gorgeous animation, to the cast and overall story. Frieren is an easy 10/10 and it isn't even debatable imo
agree, manga was so good already. i have doubt about the anime, since the story is slow and not much battle going on. but damn, the production quality is top notch, blew me out.
@@xValsionYou say you've read the manga but are complaining about no battles in the anime? Makes me wonder if you've actually read the manga at all, because it's not what I'd call "action packed."
The Apothecary Diaries and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End are two must watch shows. They are both really good animes in their own way, offering unique ideas in their storylines. Needless to say they are already among my favourites
apothecary dieries and kamonohashi ron are same thing basically, kamonohashi ron is best detective in history, but maomao solves cases faster than best detective in history does and maomao is never wrong, i can predict outcome of every single episode, those anime are same as "got reincarnated as strongest magician" or whatever where MC is never wrong, you really shouldnt state your opinion about quality of anime in public, but thats just my opinion i could be wrong xD
@@patrikarhi ehh ig but honestly the premises are different. Maomao isn’t focused on being a detective, and doesn’t mainly solve cases. The comedy and elements in the story are different from Kamonohashi. But ur opinion is urs and mine is mine it doesn’t matter.
@@Whale64yeah dont state your opinion anywhere in future, it is painful reading what u wrote, they both solve mysteries thats the premise of every episode so far. Opinion is for your tastes, i like SAO but i will still rate it 7/10 or lower, be realistic an say it is average anime 6/10 at best. I like berserk of gluttony but i would never recommend it cause is average or even below average anime, say it with me "apothecary diaries is not any good but i still like it"
Love how you mentioned that frieren is also about appreciating the little things in life. One of the things that hooked me on this anime was exactly this
Actually liking a harem like 100 girlfriends is a really surprise for me this season. The show is aware for it's ridiculousness and not afraid to turn it up like Eminence or Gintama.
@@alittleofsomething Oh yeah, there's a few who are gonna be 100% controversial, but the story doesn't care, and after a while you just need to accept them, funny enough the 6th GF got redeemed.
I like it I read the manga up until I couldn't remember all the girlfriends names properly. It's weird because the mangaka attempts to give EVERY GIRLFRIEND SCREENTIME. My head hurts too much to read it but watching it will be fun
The thing about Undead Unluck as a manga reader is that it hasn’t even really begun exploring the most interesting aspects of its world and power system yet in the anime

I love that when you first mentioned Forbidden Deductions, I thought the Super Detective was banned from Investigating because he was SO good, that it ruined the sport of Crime as it wasn't giving criminals a fair chance. Him telling criminals to Unalive themselves makes a lot more sense as a valid reason to be told to stop.
Glad Gigguk put Sousou no Frieren as the biggest on the thumbnail, I know a lot of people are watching it already but it deserves more views imo. Basically a mixture of Kino’s Journey with some Mushoku Tensei elements blended into it! ❤
When I read the first chapter, I immediately think what if TRUE sings for Frieren op, so I tried to use Sincerely with Frieren intro, and I don't feel something off of it. Also Evan Call is a perfect choice for the show music
As I knew about the premise of Frieren, when I began watching the first episode I was ready to get hit in the feels and it didn't disappoint. I downloaded the first 10 episodes the night prior to my flight back home from Tokyo and watched them all one after the other, it was amazing.
Ive been looking forward to Frieren since i heard about it is a rare genre that it's even rarer that its done well. That genre being a slow thoughtful show that explores an idea or concept. Try the 2004 Kino no Tabi for another example of this done well (not the 2017 version). It like Frieren is a masterpiece in this genre but one i personally hold to higher regard. (the Dub is also extremely good and is one of the very few shows id say the Dub is better as it allows for you to focus on the world and it was done before the mass dubbing using the same voice actors).
Now I kinda want to see someone make a full parody for 100 Girlfriends, because that protag genuinely radiates the same kinda “wait, quantum mechanics allows this?!” energy as speedrunners. “Normally, the game has a pity system, and if you roll enough rejections with high karma, you’ll get a guaranteed success. However, the game stores this as an unsigned int, and takes a few frames to properly reset the flags. As such, if a runner could activate two proposals at once, he could cause an underflow glitch, granting 255 guaranteed successful proposals. This… is the Tenchi maneuver”
These videos are always my favourite. The Humor, editing and script are peak. Please never stop making these. It would be really cool if you went back to previous years and made videos about them too. Love your work and keep it up.
Over the years of watching anime, Apothecary Diaries definitely left a mark as one of the best anime’s to exist. Something about the story and characters are just so good and refreshing. The cherry on top is that it’s gonna be a 24ep season which means 2x the excitement and anticipation
I watched the first episode of Frieren, and I am hooked. It is just different compared to other anime, it has the feels, the vibe, it makes ponder whether living a long live really matters. So good
Garnt I don't know if you still edit your own videos, but if you do, this one was a masterpiece. Really clever cuts and references, probably my favorite seasonal anime in a nutshell video yet. I hope you don't get burnt out doing these because the quality and love really shows and I just wanted to leave you a nice comment of my appreciation :)
I'm glad 16bit Sensation got a mention because I'm really really loving it, especially as a VN fan. Konoha's outraged scream at Kanon and Sengoku Rance priced 100 JPY at the shop was like "she's just like me fr fr." VNs deserves some more respect, Konoha's right in how influential they are. Maybe with the time travel mechanics they can get to Minori which is INSANELY influential being one of the dominoes in both Chinese gachage and Makoto Shinkai's career.
I personally hate the ayaya Voice acting, those high pitched voices are personally Just Not for me, even If I am Sure that she is doing a fantastic Job.
They are also, in my opinion, the best possible medium to learn Japanese. You get text, pronunciations that you can play over and over, native-oriented storytelling and lots of idiomatic expressions. Also, the art is gorgeous in some of them!
My english is terrible btw im not a writer just an Isekai idea (no magic or it can be just read the last idea I thought) (Before isekaied) First it show his life growing up in technological era.his life goes like this he grow up with loving family taking care of him.loved by everyone goes through a lot of struggle and hardship.he grow up to be father he love is his family, life and he want to see them grow he is happy.... Until one day he died cause of laboratory accident killing him.his though process when he is dieing he feel sad, scared, worried and angry because of his happy life is ending without seeing his family son wife daughter growing up like their first day at school, college, graduation, marriage and their life happy (He died) At this part he see a vision seeing some light first he thought he is alive feeling happy until he try to move his hand normally but it feel to weird the he saw that his hand is small with his blurry vision then he try to touch his face he feel the touch from his face and hand later realizing that when the accident happened his hand is dicapitated with the current technology they aren't able to create such and organic hand with sensory feel(note:idk if we r able to do this in era)then he try to talk but unable to do so.he starting to feel scared, anxious and heart beating fast he realize he is a baby knowing this he thought it is reincarnation at this moment he is completely feel scared and shock because he is unaware of this new world going to offer plus with the memory of his past life he hate the idea of reincarnation with past memory because it feel torturing to him bcuz his life was perfect he didn't want to start a new life Synopsis:reincarnated in (any era u think this story fit my thought was like time when technology is consider some kind of witchery to make the mc have development since he love tech but maybe in this world people have different opinions) he going through another world of life questioning his life in the past and right now overcoming his depression wether he want to accept this new life. Im thinking that he have endless reincarnation maybe for future arc feeling lifeless that it never ending of this cruel soul reincarnation with different shape or form of life maybe the story goes to unacceptance to accepting this endless reincarnation with the fact it full of adventurous and experience.with this arc maybe he try to find another reincarnation (note this is maybe too cruel) he can but when the reincarnation people meet one of them die but why? Hmmm maybe its a terrible idea.
I love how Gigguk keeps making these videos, and somehow seems to keep one-upping himself with the jokes. That one summoning-sallt bit had me rolling. My favorite creator on YT by far
Undead Unluck is really phenomenal, it’s only going to get better especially as the world building progresses. It’s a fantastically rewarding series to spend time with and each little detail means something.
I watched episode 1 for the seemingly half-baked premise, stayed for the animation, then was completely hooked by the hook dropped in like, the 5th episode. xD What a weird underdog series.
With BG3 Sex% breaking a minute barrier, then being patched out only to be patched back in, it has never been a better time to be a competitive sex haver.
Lol that daughter caught ligma protocol rain bit almost killed my gut. 🤣 I needed that, currently going through dopamine lows due to seasonal affective disorder. Winter blows.
Apothecary Diaries has been such a surprise for me this season. Definitely worth watching - the first episode is fine, but it really ramps up throughout. Historic Chinese Waifu House is a great way to put it. Frieren is fantastic and easily one of the best this season. Eminence is still the goat of isekai. I want isekai quartet with shadow and Kazuma meeting. Two goats. Overtake has been really great - but I am the target audience: I love racing and photography. Berserk of gluttony is hilarious for being such a copy and paste of everything fantasy/isekai.
I'll be honest here, that summoning salt segment made me tear up a little, i loved it. Great video, thank you for keeping us up with this seasons shows.
Am I the only one who noticed that almost every manga Gigguk talked about got an anime after a while? ( like: Oshi no Ko, Zom 100, and now Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ) And I'm honestly sure that the rest of the manga that Gigguk spoke about will also get an anime in the future.
The one about the smoker chick and the office dude got an announcement for its anime. Gigguk also spoke Call of the Night into being. Either he's prophetic or it was just a matter of time for most manga to get an anime adaptation. So... Gash Bell 2 when
Frieren is one of the rare animes that completely hooked me within the first few episodes. It is so beautiful in many different ways from the stunning visuals to the well orchestrated music and the slow-paced yet never boring plot I can say confidently that this is definitely my top for 2023.
frieren legit made me cry.this anime hit the spot in so many different ways and you can really relate to the struggles that the characters faces. This anime make you think about your life choices
This anime is quite a whiplash. you started out speed running through her life and it only starts to slow down when she gets herself and apprentice, of whom actually teaches Frieren to learn to be mindful of her time even though she is almost an immortal.
@@saebre. Eh they haven't really been mainstream that long really. Before like 2013's GDQ and Twitch really taking off speedrunning was pretty obscure outside of a few TASes of games like Super Mario Bros blowing people's minds back before 2010 every couple of years.
Eminence in Shadow season 2 hit hard. Especially that Blood Queen fight. The musics, fights, and the whole set up is just on-spot. It’s crazy how it’s #1 in my list now.
you just make the best anime recap every season. thank you! Also: I couldnt stop listening to your voice while watching Frieren. Had it on my manga "to-watch" list since i saw your video, and you were damn right about it. Gotta thank you for that one aswell
People are sleeping on Dead Mount Death Play. The animation isn't the best ever, but it's doing reverse Isekai right! Every episode adds more & more layers to the multiple mysteries, but you can always tell it's going somewhere. It actually got me reading the manga, and now I'm enjoying it even more! Edit: Shoutout to *Pluto* as well! Hot damn, that was a great ride!
@ARCNA442 Not quite yet, though the pace has definitely picked up (only 4 episodes in so far). But I started reading the manga to figure out if there were real payoffs, and now it all makes sense to me. All the mysteries & questions being layered on each other have purpose. S1 was introducing & setting up all the players & pieces, but it's all planned out. If you liked Baccano! or Durarara!! it's just like them (same writer). But I can see why it might not feel worth it to some people
He didn’t really discuss any sequel. He did mention during his livestream that he has read the manga and that this season was gonna be really amazing, so he’s not sleeping on it it just didn’t put it in the video.
My top 3 this season 1. Frieran, this should be the anime of the year 2. The Apothecary Diaries, I was surprised by how good this has been . 3. The Eminence in Shadow, well it was not as good as I expected it to be but still pretty fun.
I am 3 episodes in....does it get better? Just like with Monster, I like overall plot and ideas, but characters and what moves the story forward just feels sooo contrived.
@@Roonagu you didn’t like the first episode? That episode got me emotional 😢 but yes don’t worry the whole thing is great stick with it you won’t regret it
Returner's Magic Should be Special is something that I've been reading for the last couple years, and I just want to say that it caught me COMPLETELY off-guard when I saw it pop up on the 2023 fall list. Berserk of Gluttony is in the same boat too. 100% It has amazing source material and I am hyped beyond belief for this adaptation from out of left field. With the Solo Leveling adaptation on the horizon, I can't be anything but excited for all the different manhwa and manhua to get animated.
is Returner's Magic actually good? Since there are so many good anime this season I didn't give a chance (especially since the MAL rating is super low too).
@@XanderFenikkusu I don't know about the anime, but the manhwa is good I wouldn't consider it the best. It is basically what you would expect, with someone who has a second chance to save the world with all their knowledge (not their power) from the future. You get to watch the protagonist try to navigate the situation with his future knowledge of magical innovation and the creative uses he made for weaker spells that he gained from said future. The protagonist from what I read (got interrupted due to life circumstances, need to pick it back up) doesn't ever really get OP, there's always a bigger fish which he can use his knowledge to combat. There's also the personal aspects that I'm surprised to see brought-up by a manhwa, often in these types of stories beginner writers focus on the main character planning and completely negate the personal side of things. To that degree we are left with an interesting situation where the protagonist wants to get his relationships back but he is simply a far more different person than he was when the original events happened.

It's even more cringer than the isekai bullshits I've seen. U can read it if u are a harem guy or waifu guy or whatever.
I can foresee a lot of hate comments coming to me after that comment.
Edit: Surprisingly, there isn't.
Frieren is an instant classic. Undead Unluck despite looking like a fun spin on shonen tropes, I feel like isn't being talked about much
ive herd some good things about the manga, it will prob blow up after a while
Frieren, undead unluck, and kingdoms of ruin are all pretty damn good. Deadmount death play season two has slowed down so much i don't love it.
I just can't get behind an anime where the protagonist is the creepy harassment comedic relief character.
It's typical crazy organization shit, that every seasons there's always a slot for it
I think ppl just gonna be blinded with more isekai and fantasy show instead of that one, that's why it's one of the underrated anime of the season
@@_Mr.Black_ Kingdoms of ruin? Really?
Glad Undead Unluck got the shout out it deserved. I can't even watch the show (legally) in Thailand because of 'Hulu', but the manga really offers one of the most creative and genre-bending stories in recent years while keeping a fun tone. I just really, really hope it will be legally accessible worldwide soon.
Wait until you find out about gogoanime, 123movies, and putlocker bro.
The last episode was fire af and I couldn’t wait for the examination arc i just want to skip time and get to that instantly
@@xValsionYou say you've read the manga but are complaining about no battles in the anime?

I was not interested in apothecary diaries just by the title. But when described as "House MD in imperial China" I might give it a whirl.
Both also got best op

I like berserk of gluttony but i would never recommend it cause is average or even below average anime, say it with me "apothecary diaries is not any good but i still like it"
Love how you mentioned that frieren is also about appreciating the little things in life. One of the things that hooked me on this anime was exactly this
Frieren is the perfect example of why you only need 1 episode to tell if an anime is very good or not
so is it good or not?
It got me at the title. Loved that manga, it seems the adaptation is also amazingly well done.

There will be a couple controversial girls, if they make more seasons. I hope they do, I want to hear all the girls coming to life.

There is only one logical next step after getting sponsored by The Eminence in Shadow, time for Garnt to add another show to his MAL credits!
He's gotta be in the dub
Aww yeah, time to double the size of that list!
Now I want what you first assumed as an anime.
Edit: death note does not count
I think you mean "hot fuzz"
I've always enjoyed Garnt's humor, but the quality of these segments keeps getting better. The Summoning Salt bit was chef's kiss.

Also Evan Call is a perfect choice for the show music
anyone remember what violet evergarden track this is?
edit its called the voice in my heart
Never in a million years did I expect a summoning salt parody in a Gigguk video. the second that song started i knew what i was in for. a masterpiece.

Over the years of watching anime, Apothecary Diaries definitely left a mark as one of the best anime’s to exist. Something about the story and characters are just so good and refreshing. The cherry on top is that it’s gonna be a 24ep season which means 2x the excitement and anticipation

If I recall correctly, he reviews everything the other editor does, and then adds his own flair.
11:22 the way you explain Berserk of Gluttony is amazing! I couldn’t have summarized it better
Konoha's voice actor is so good
I personally hate the ayaya Voice acting, those high pitched voices are personally Just Not for me, even If I am Sure that she is doing a fantastic Job.
They are also, in my opinion, the best possible medium to learn Japanese. You get text, pronunciations that you can play over and over, native-oriented storytelling and lots of idiomatic expressions. Also, the art is gorgeous in some of them!
My english is terrible btw im not a writer just an Isekai idea (no magic or it can be just read the last idea I thought)
(Before isekaied) First it show his life growing up in technological era.his life goes like this he grow up with loving family taking care of him.loved by everyone goes through a lot of struggle and hardship.he grow up to be father he love is his family, life and he want to see them grow he is happy.... Until one day he died cause of laboratory accident killing him.his though process when he is dieing he feel sad, scared, worried and angry because of his happy life is ending without seeing his family son wife daughter growing up like their first day at school, college, graduation, marriage and their life happy
(He died)
At this part he see a vision seeing some light first he thought he is alive feeling happy until he try to move his hand normally but it feel to weird the he saw that his hand is small with his blurry vision then he try to touch his face he feel the touch from his face and hand later realizing that when the accident happened his hand is dicapitated with the current technology they aren't able to create such and organic hand with sensory feel(note:idk if we r able to do this in era)then he try to talk but unable to do so.he starting to feel scared, anxious and heart beating fast he realize he is a baby knowing this he thought it is reincarnation at this moment he is completely feel scared and shock because he is unaware of this new world going to offer plus with the memory of his past life he hate the idea of reincarnation with past memory because it feel torturing to him bcuz his life was perfect he didn't want to start a new life
Synopsis:reincarnated in (any era u think this story fit my thought was like time when technology is consider some kind of witchery to make the mc have development since he love tech but maybe in this world people have different opinions) he going through another world of life questioning his life in the past and right now overcoming his depression wether he want to accept this new life.

Apothecary Diaries has been such a surprise for me this season. Definitely worth watching - the first episode is fine, but it really ramps up throughout.
Someday, we may get the breaker adaptation it deserves.
Returner is soo good coz he aint OP he just brings everyone down to his level lmao
is Returner's Magic actually good? Since there are so many good anime this season I didn't give a chance (especially since the MAL rating is super low too).
@@XanderFenikkusu IDK about the quality of the anime, but the manhwa it is adapted from is certainly one of the best I've read.
