@@sentinel2914 Yes at Masonic Temple. Awesome show. It was cool that Mikael mentioned the I-Rock. Opeth playing at the I-Rock was the first time Opeth played here and it was when I discovered Opeth back in 2001. Wow that was 21 years ago. I'm getting old.
Martin Mendez is such a silky bass player. Since you like bass, I would recommend Drapery Falls, but hear the studio version for a clear listen of the bassline which is epic.
I'm glad you're into their music. I'd recommend Bleak cause it's my personal favorite. I'm really excited this week as I'll see them live for the first time this Sunday!
Opeth songs to check out next in no particular order: "Bleak" (features vocals by Steven Wilson), "Cusp Of Eternity" (that hook!), "Face of Melinda" (great journey), "Harvest" (the melancholy, no growls), and last but not least "Deliverance" (for the DUN dun dun DUN). And if you want similar (as in complexity, not necessarily as death metal) other bands to have a look at are: Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson, Karnivool, Haken, and King Crimson are the first ones to come to mind.
I love watching people fall in love with my favorite band, reminds me why I fell so hard for Opeth 20 years ago. If you're still looking to react to them and want a mix of Heavy and Acoustic i would suggest "Blackwater Park" off of Blackwater Park or "The Night and the Silent Water" off of Morningrise, if you want just clean "To big you Farewell" off Morningrise or "Hope Leaves" off Damnation, Happy listening!
I'm so glad you noticed the bass in this. I started working on learning it a few months ago and to this day it's still a trip. It's on a whole other level. Also I was convinced that outro was completely structureless and honestly hated it for a bit. After figuring it out it's become one of my favorites. It's just so jarring but somehow flows so well once it clicks.
The last part of the song simulates the feeling beeing lost in the forest and running from tree to tree, completly lost. The song is part of an almost concept album. A Murder of his mother running from his guilt.
A little more raw recording then "Ghost Of Perdition" due to it being recorded for a DVD....but Opeth kills it every time. Jump to the studio version of this and more....I suggest "Hessian Peel" studio version.🤘
The discography of Opeth shows a really awesome transition from a death metal sound to an incredible prog metal sound. My favorite was from Blackwater Park to Watershed.
Nice reaction! These are my Current top 10 Opeth Songs 1) April Ethereal 2) The Funeral Portrait 3) Godheads Lament 4) Ghost of Perdition 5) Demon of the Fall 6) When 7) Moonlapse Vertigo 8) Deliverance 9) Black Water Park 10) Master's Apprentices Yep, all about them Epic Outros :) MAYH is my fav Opeth Album!
His growls used to be soo much better. I suggest when watching live performances checking out songs from their live at the roundhouse tapes DVD. It's older so not as good picture quality but much better performances
More Opeth Please! I would highly recommend songs (In Chronological Order) such as, The Twilight is My Robe (1995) To Bid You Farewell (1996) Demon of the Fall (1998) Face of Melinda (1999) Dirge For November (2001) Master's Apprentices (2002) To Rid The Disease (2003) Hours of Wealth (2005) Burden (2008) Folklore (2011) Faith in Others (2014) Strange Brew (2016) Universal Truth (2019)
I love how they blend that folksy 60s/70s feel that wouldn't be out of place at Woodstock with modern metal, and all the subtly great musical composition. Great reaction!
One of my favourite opeth songs, has the perfect balance of aggression, mood, and calm and tells a story. Side note, your hair kept covering part of your T-shirt and the idea of a LEMON SLAYER greatly amused me xD
I’m so happy to see that you’ve listened to this song. I’m a HUUGGEE OPETH fan. I’ve really been enjoying seeing you and your reactions to them. I have this huge painting I did of them live on my wall. I can’t wait to see them live again. Cheers from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪

A band I was in opened for Opeth at a bar in Tampa Florida called 'The Brass Mug' back in 2001 just after Blackwater Park came out. I had never heard them before then and was blown away by their music. Great guys, too.
I'd suggest "Windowpane" from their "Damnation" album. It's such a fragile, emotional song and definitely this song (and the whole album) is very different compared to other Opeth albums ua-cam.com/video/bSpqLqC7U6g/v-deo.html&ab_channel=OpethVEVO
I recommend you "Burden" and "Windowpane" to see the growl free Opeth. They changed their style from time to time, but they still create impressiv music.

For a totaly different side (especially the vocals) you could try "Faith in Others" or "Burden", other than that I'd suggest "Deliverance" or "Bleak" next! I loved this! what a lovely video. it feels great to see you react to Opeth, my favorite band of all time. I'd recommend My Arms, Your Hearse the entire album. it's a roller coaster of emotions. Cheers!
Love your channel! Here are my Opeth Recommendations, been a fan of theirs since 02’. -Forest of October -Drapery Falls -Night and the Silent Water -Face of Melinda -Blackwater Park
They are great live, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised how much better the studio versions are as well. You cannot go wrong with anything from the albums Blackwater Park (best album), Still Life, Ghost Reveries, Watershed, Deliverance, or My Arms Your Hearse. Below are some great songs to start: Drapery Falls Dirge for November Blackwater Park (no clean vocals) Deliverance Bleak (Steven Wilson back vocals) The Moor The Lotus Eater A Fair Judgment (no growls) Many more, but this will get you started (and hooked). Again, do some studio versions, because they are perfect. Mikael's growls were declining during those live performances, and after Watershed album they no longer do growls on any songs. Love your reactions!
They are the best live band I have ever heard. Some other great songs are Deliverance, Blackwater Park, Isolation Years. You can't go wrong with Opeth.
I'm really happy to see you diving in to Opeth. They are an amazing band. I'm a long time fan of theirs. You should check out something from Damnation to get a little different sound from them. Windowpane or Death Whispered A Lullaby would be great.
I go between this song and blackwater park as my favorite opeth songs. Can’t wait for you to react to songs off blackwater the whole album is masterpiece 👌🏻
Love your reactions! Do more OPETH! :3 Just one thing ..you should increase the volume/music in your videos in a good amount, on some head phones you can't crank up the music that much! :-) Best wishes - Jules.
Mikael Åkerfeldt has an absolutely incredible range of harsh and clean vocals. And beyond that he's an amazing songwriter. He's also pretty damn funny on stage between songs, as you see here. Ever since I first heard them Opeth had absolutely captivated me every time I hear them.
even though they aren’t terrible by any means here, the growls are completely inferior to the studio recordings, so I’d recommend you try some studio stuff as well just to hear his absolute peak in vocals
Definitely my least favorite Opeth live album but still better then most things. Live at Shepards bush empire and the Roundhouse tapes are the best live Opeth records
Another crazy song from the same live : « Dirge for November » One of my fav. Or, a perfect live with Michael at his prime, « When », live at Roundhouse Tapes.
Hey, I was fortunate enough to see these guys at the house of blues in downtown San Diego back in '06, when Peter Lindgren was still a member, so much fun...anyway the album recordings, to me, sound slightly different than live, check out moonlapse vertigo from the still life album, you'll see what I mean..peace
Love you and your reaction channel. If you love Opeth you have to do two songs together from the album “Watershed”. Coil and Heir Apparent. Coil represents for me A relationship that is toxic and the man ultimately leaves the woman behind but has much pain over doing such but had to do so due to the nature of the relationship ( extremely toxic) and the woman additionally expresses how she feels being left behind and the more remorse that they both feel as the years go by in having to have left each other, Heir Apparent expresses the anger and rage felt as a result of what felt like demonic possession of two people in this horrific toxic relationship and the ups and downs of it. For me the two songs together are as a Shakespearean tragedy, something that I and many people have gone through. I must reiterate that this is what this song meant to me, it may mean something else to others however it is a very emotionally powerful music listening for me from this perspective
Ah, the band and the song that pushed me to be a bass player. I was actually at the NYC gig of that little tour, so I can always watch the footage or listen to the album and I'm right back at Terminal 5. Finally saw those guys again last Sunday night in Pittsburgh. There's Mikael on my hat in the profile pic lol
Yes!!! 🔥🔥❤Opeth❤🔥🔥 I love them so much. I'm so excited for you to hear more of them. ❤ There are some excellent recommendations in the comments already, but I'll add Coil/Heir Apparent (they go together) because... Awesomeness abounds.
Just subbed, Opeth is my favorite band they are outright one of the best all around bands out there. They arent necessarily the best at each individual style, but they are very good at every style they play and I love variation. At some point you should check out some clips of Mikael, there's a video where he listens to fan covers, he really is a lovely soul.
I discovered them when I was 17. now I'm 30, many things have changed. but along with Agalloch and Tool they always remain in my top 3 favorite bands ever
Great reaction to a great performance. Can I suggest for Opeth trying Forests of October, The Moor, Windowpane and Moon Above, Sun Below to get a good idea of how the band has changed over it's 25+ years and the breadth of sounds they've employed.
A great performance is the Roundhouse Tapes version of When. It’s the best live recording of the band imo and a great song. Mikael’s vocals are incredible in the Roundhouse Tapes recordings
Opeth In their prime really have had some wonderful root note type groovy and bouncy bass lines that differ but compliment the main riffs so well, making it sound warm and comforting. Some prime examples on their album Damnation which a lot of non metal heads gravitate towards because it's their only fully mellow album. A good way to trick people into liking a band which can be quite heavy lol. When I was 17 i discovered opeth after hearing about porcupine tree. First by damnation, then was totally shocked to hear Ghost of perdition. Damnation really is something magical and surprising considering most of their discography. cheers.
Good big, Aileen. I love the use of repetition in this song. It doesn't get old. I saw how much you enjoyed Devin Townsend's vocals. If you're not too familiar with their stuff, could you react to Avenged Sevenfold's Beast and the Harlot Live in the LBC? It's a killer performance and I think you'll love his vocals!
Hi Aileen, please could You react to Master's apprentices ... It's one of their many songs that can be considerated a Masterpiece and it's one of their heaviest, love your reactions... Greetings from chile !! 🤘🤘
If you like his growl vocals I suggest a song from his time in Bloodbath. Mock the Cross is a good song or Hades Rising. He played in Bloodbath with members of Katatonia.
Aileen, you really need to check out the Blackwater Park cd. The Ghost Reveries cd is amazing, but the Blackwater Park cd has a few that you would really like as well. In no particular order, amongst their older cd's, you would love, "Face of Melinda", "The Moor", Bleak", "Harvest", "The Drapery Falls" , "Blackwater Park", "Deliverance", and "Windowpane". Everyone has their favorites, but those will hit hard with you! "Bleak", "Harvest", and "The Drapery Falls" is, imo, the best 3 song in a row run on any cd. Love the reaction videos!
Hi. Found your channel here a few days ago and I'm blown away by your sheer emotional depth. Needless to say you are also ridiculously intelligent as f*ck. Now. With all that unpleasantness out of the way... one of their studio recordings I keep coming back to is "Harvest". I want you to listen to that song. If you made it into a reaction video, so much the better :) Sending you love from Germany.
I love seeing you headbang at the sick riffs and your reaction whenever there is a change or drop. It shows that you "get it". Do you listen to the studio version after this though? I imagine it's a little overwhelming after your first listen, especially because this song's ending is meant to throw you off. There's just so much detail in the entire song, as you pointed out. I'm sure it's hard to remember some stuff right after it ends. I think your next song should definitely be a studio version. You'll get to hear how Mikael sounds somewhat different when he growls and screams on the albums. I personally don't think it's better than his style today, though I do think in this particular concert he was reaching the end of the set and was having some trouble with his in-ear monitors, So even this performance might not be him at his best. And it's still so good. For your next song though...it's so hard to choose...I'm going to go with my gut and say Bleak. Bleak is a fucking good song.
You should give "The Drapery Falls" and "Dirge For November" a listen from this same concert at the Royal Albert Hall. I'd love to see you react to those two.
Opeth is probably the greatest metal band that ever existed. Maybe the best band period. Check out some of the songs from Damnation. Not a metal song on that album, but all top notch!
I'm a lover of all things Opeth but I'm particularly fond of My arms your hearse, and Blackwater Park albums. I highly highly recommend April Ethereal, Blackwater Park, or Dirge for November those three songs are amazing
3 of my favorites as well.. April Ethereal is so underrated, most people don't mention it, but it was my favorite song for a bit. So many amazing songs on that album tbh.
So many legendary Opeth songs. I could recommend: Serenity Painted Death, Blackwater Park, Godhead's Lament, Deliverance, Bleak, Drapery Falls, Face of Melinda, All Things Will Pass, along with 20-30 other tbh.
Great vid, love you channel. I'd like to throw a suggestion out for Cynic. Like Opeth, they definitely are a pioneer for introducing clean singing into death metal. But their take is more sci fi while Opeth is more gothic. I recommend the song "Veil of Maya" by Cynic.
I’m also totally here for a dive into Opeth’s discography, we need more of those channels on youtube
and as for song recommendations i always plug morningrise so The Night and The Silent Water or To Bid You Farewell from that album
Opeth is my all-time favorite band. Going to see them for the 19th time today.
Have fun at the show!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks

Hi Aileen, please could You react to Master's apprentices ... It's one of their many songs that can be considerated a Masterpiece and it's one of their heaviest, love your reactions... Greetings from chile !! 🤘🤘
They got 3 in a row on that album
Deliverance
A fair judgment
Masters Apprentice
But to be honest almost every song is a masterpiece by Opeth
Amazing one to listen to indeed, that and the drapery falls
@@dryferr5557 You're damn right, it's like every song is an album in itself 😂
I am surprised how overlooked Master's Apprentices is, it's one of their best songs
One of the most amazingly talented bands on earth!
If you made it into a reaction video, so much the better :)
Sending you love from Germany.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Agree, more Opeth is very much needed and required ;)
I'm a lover of all things Opeth but I'm particularly fond of My arms your hearse, and Blackwater Park albums. I highly highly recommend April Ethereal, Blackwater Park, or Dirge for November those three songs are amazing
3 of my favorites as well.. April Ethereal is so underrated, most people don't mention it, but it was my favorite song for a bit. So many amazing songs on that album tbh.
Please, you must listen to The Drapery Falls. It's my favorite Opeth's song ever.
So many legendary Opeth songs. I could recommend: Serenity Painted Death, Blackwater Park, Godhead's Lament, Deliverance, Bleak, Drapery Falls, Face of Melinda, All Things Will Pass, along with 20-30 other tbh.
Can't wait for this. I really enjoyed your reaction to Ghost of Perdition 💖
Hope you enjoyed it!
Fuck yes this is my favorite Opeth song, I love it so much.
One word..!!!! Deliverance 🤘🏻🔥🔥🤘🏻
More & more Opeth please!
Opeth is playing with Mastodon in Portland Oregon on the tenth......
Akerfeldt is the one of man with the blessed voice, his control is unbelievable... and, the old Opeth is more better than today 😀😄
This era Opeth makes me sad as you can hear Michael is already losing his voice when playing live. 😢
Such a great song. 👍
Ohhhh also I would like to see you react to the song DELIVERANCE by them. It is my Favourite song. You will not be disappointed
