😊 First video from you I have seen.
Presentation was solid. Crisp with excellent clarity.
I have now watched/studied 2-300 HA videos and your presentation is definitely in the top 10%!@
You incorporated an HA blue print . That alone was helpful as it provided clarity on blueprint usage as well.
Everything was very straight forward
Thanks for the kind words! Glad I could help.
Have got a few of the simple TRÅDFRI Wireless dimmer remotes working with zigbee and home assistant, they are great and also have a magnet in the back which is perfect size to stick to a metal door frame
The magnetic mounting is great. I've got one of those demmier remotes but I've not paired it with anything just yet.
great video as always.
we use a different brand button, stuck on the fridge, one press sends text to speech message to child's bedroom speaker, to come to kitchen. double press to child 2 etc.
makes for less shouting.
nice use case!
I love the idea of using it as part of your notification flow.
😂 this is hilarious
Very helpful. I got lost on the long press. I assume you set up a helper for the increment number for kitchen lights but I don't see how you linked this to the actual brightness of the kitchen lights in the call service part of the automation.
Detailed setup in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/nuwrv_ywDiY/v-deo.html
great vid thanks. how have you found the battery life on these? I have several tradfri 5 button remotes and the batteries drain in days to weeks. Grabbed one of these 4 button remotes today, accidentally got the stainless steel version which feels very solid, but I think it's $30. The white ones are $25 according to the website now..
I've not had any issues with the batteries but we're a 2 person household, and we don't really use the switches that much.
I do have a bunch of 5 Button remotes and mine tend to last months.
cheers fella , originally gave up trying to set up the ikea sonos controller ,couldn't get my head round the text helper , moved to the stybar and found this vid , now should be able to set up both 👌,will check out the variables, vid , have you done anything on templating ? something that completely eludes me good presentation 👍
I've done some work with templating in this video: ua-cam.com/video/nuwrv_ywDiY/v-deo.html
Great video, as always👍
I bought one of these yesterday , but can’t pair it with HA!!
Have pressed the pair button for 10 seconds , as you suggest , multiple times.
Any ideas?
It took me several goes to get it to pair. You might need to find the documentation to reset the remote. I think it's tap the button 4 times IIRC
Question: If you add a second remote can it use the same text helper or does each remote need its own?
seperate for each.
Great video! 10x
Glad you liked it! Thank you.
Do you need a hub or zigbee stick to pair them with home assistant ?
To pair them to Home Assistant you will need a Zigbee Stick.
Hey on 7:30 there is a jump cut, i can't get the pairing on my part...
I would love to see the pairing without cuts
It took a few tries to get mine to pair. I think 5 or 6 so I cut out a bunch of swearing from the video.... when it works its not that much different from what's shown.
I've since busted my ZHA setup so I'll need to do it again anyway. I'll see if I can capture it.\
Nice Video......got some tradfri devices as well which works well apart from motion sensor....did you manage to get it working?
I haven't got the Tradfri Motion sensor just yet. They were out of stock when I was last there.
I may end up using a different motion sensor for the cat litter smell extractor automation anyway.
@@HiveMindAutomation a bit tricky setting it up with sonoff zigbee 3 dongle, though it was pairing but no detection from sensor, tried 4 of them all no good. Even tried updating firmware but waste of time, will return them
Can confirm, Tradfri Motion sensor works via ZHA. Click on add device in ZHA integration and put sensor into pairing mode by quickly clicking pair button 4 times; it should show up shortly.
Hi ! Nice video, it helped me a lot, I did the same setup as described and it worked. Do you have an idea about how could I change a color with the left an right buttons ? thanks
I'm still looking into that myself. I know it's possible, jut trying to figure out the best way.
@@HiveMindAutomation I found a way with the msg.payload and a switch module in node-red
I can get the remote to work for short button presses. However, none of the other options work. I can’t get double press or long press to do anything. Looking at my logbook my system seems to recognize the button is pressed and seems to see it released after a long press. It it does not do anything. Not even the short button press action.
weird. might be a dodgy remote? hard to say.
@@HiveMindAutomation good suggestion. But I have two remotes. Same behaviour from both.
How do you pair 3 of them with the same bulb?
3 Controllers with one bulb?
I'm not sure if the IKEA ecosystem supports multiple steering devices for a single bulb.
If you're using something like Home Assistant and ZHA, you'd just pair them all to Home Assistant and setup Automations to change the state of the bulb you want to control.
How can i do if i don’t have home assistant there isn’t on my settings 😭
I'm not really sure what you're asking here.
If you don't have Home Assistant, then this video is probably not relevant for you. If you're pairing to the Ikea Hub, the instructions should be in the Ikea Home Smart app.
Hi very good Video... can you show your automation "KITCHEN - Change Brightness on Input Change" please? I tried to set everything as you show here in the video. But I don't know how to get my lamps to accept the value of the input_number helper.
And can you show in a video how to change the light color with the side buttons? I had previously registered this remote control on the Tradfri Gateway and would like to use this function via Home Assistant as well. Thank you very much
I'll put something together in a few weeks.
@@HiveMindAutomation Thank you very much.
@@HiveMindAutomation Hi, sorry if I ask again. Are you still thinking about the compilation? I am waiting for it very anxiously. Would be very happy if I can see the video soon.
@@HiveMindAutomation Hi, sorry if I ask again. How far are you with the compilation? I am already very excited about it. Thank you in advance.
I covered change brightness in this video: ua-cam.com/video/nuwrv_ywDiY/v-deo.html
For changing Colours using the Styrbar remote check out this blueprint.
community.home-assistant.io/t/zha-ikea-styrbar-white-spectrum-lights/341688
it's for changing the colour temperature of white spectrum lights, but might be adaptable.
Unfortunately I've not even had time to look at this yet so it's still going to be a while before I can write, shoot, edit, and upload any video covering this. I have an idea of how I might do it, but not sure it'll work.
To pair my remote pressing for 10 seconds did not work. When I pressed the pairing button 5 times quickly it worked.t
Oh wait. Found it in the documentation. Indeed, you need a separate text helper for each remote.
it seems so yes.
Mine keeps resetting itself! I’m almost done adding 9 lights and then suddenly it resets and disconnects all bulbs again 😭
interesting... I've not been using this in production, and when I was using it it was with ZHA to Home Assistant, not the native Ikea setup
If you keep your spare batteries in the fridge they will last longer
I've heard of batteries in the fridge getting some charge back but not that they'll last longer.
Stands to reason that slowing down any chemical reaction would help with "freshness" though. I'll have to try that.
watch at 1,5 speed.
Sorry, was I talking to slow?
@@HiveMindAutomation Yes. I know yt likes longer vids, but 22 mins. to explain a simple install is long.
Your reset of this is NOT 10 seconds. Its to hit the pairing/link button 4 times in 5 seconds. I noticed you cut that part out of your video and now show the pairing, why did you do this?
I shot this video a very long time ago so couldn't tell you for sure which it was or what my brain did back then with resets or editing.
That said I did recently have to reset it and can confirm pressing the button 4 times in quick succession was how it was done.

Nice one.
Perfect! thx
