I would/will put one to the front door and maybe the other end of the apartment and track if me or my wife is home, and from there turn off/ on things
To get the IP, you can also just use the log display from the espresense web page that you showed in the beginning. It's displayed during the boot process.
Really informative video, great job 👏👏
Glad you liked it!
Hows the Home project going? Id be interested in using the DIY version when it comes available!
Weird this issue with the primary account needing to be used by the integration. I know that is wat it says in the integration but personally i tried anyway to run it with the secondary account and it works fine for many months now. I started by sharing from the main account each petkit device individually, then in order to have some devices that cannot be shared like the water fountain (bluetooth only) and the pet entity itself i also shared the whole family to the secondary account. HomeAssistant is logged with the secondary account and it has been working for the original petkit feeder i had and now for the pura max 2 and for the fountain as well since the pura max is soing the bluetooth bridge for the fountain. Wonder why it wont work for you? For the moment I only set up one automation with the litter. when the counter of used times go up by one, the house purifier that is close to the litter is turning on (if it can help with the smells that is always good) and 10 minutes later the robot vacuum is going to the area of the litter to vacuum any stray litter outside the Pura max
Interesting that it works for you. Maybe something has changed since I made the videos
@HiveMindAutomation I don't know I have always seen the mention in the GitHub that we should not do that but it always worked for me for some reason 😅
many thanks
You are welcome
Great product review. Happy New Year to you and Family.
Thanks and happy new year to you too!
HNY to you and your family. Looks like you enjoyed producing this video 😊. Don't over do it maybe one a month. A dehumidifier helped asthma will look to order one of these soon.
Happy new year!
Always a pleasant surprise to see a new video from you.
I appreciate that. I'm trying to keep the content coming.
This is good for tracking the location of devices. The challenge is how to create automations using this in Home Assistant. Neither the ESP32s nor the iPhone generates Entities that can be used to trigger an automation. I have an HA dashboard tile identical to Reed's and it properly shows the location of my BLE devices as I move around the house, but again, they don't provide entities that I can use to trigger an automation. The ESP32s only provide the following Entities: Absorption Arduino OTA Auto Update Connectivity Enroll Free Mem Max Distance Restart Update Uptime
I believe the idea is to use the presence of a device in a room as a Condition on an automation rather than triggering an automation.
Hello all, I need a longer power adapter but can’t find the specks plug type and power. If anyone would be able to help it would be much appreciated Thanks
12Volts at 0.5A and the plug is a 3.5mm barrel jack with Positive on the tip
@@HiveMindAutomation thank you so much
Great video thank you! I learned a lot. You have any tips on addressing zones on the flex? Id like half the strip to be red for one automation and blue for another automation, essentially treating it as 2 separate flex strips.
For those of you wondering why WiZ lights aren't working correctly, they are REQUIRED to be on a 2.4Ghz network of their own. If you have dualband on it WILL NOT WORK. I ran into this issue earlier, reset all my lights several times but to no avail. Turned off dualband, setup my 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks, and they worked Immediately. Word to the wise!
I had that problem with my first Wiz light. It was really weird
I was getting an error "ConfigEntry.__init__() got an unexpected keyword argument" when trying to get the device keys. I found a solution by going to HA->Settings->Devices & Services->Add Integration->Meross LAN to enter my account information. This then automatically recognized all my plugs and I only needed to assign a room for them to be added, circumventing the bug. Hope this helps anyone else who got stuck on this step.
Can you install it upside down if the chain is too long?
Theoretically it'd still work, but the chain won't flow well around the body of the unit. You're better off trimming the chain and using a chain joiner.
G'day mate, just starting to get back into home assistant after my raspberry pi died 5 years ago. Planning on using this so that i use all the solar i produce and minimal goes back to the grid.
There's a bunch of new stuff in Home Assistant now with the Energy Dashboard as well that might be helpful.
@HiveMindAutomation are you in SE suburbs of Vic?
can we use with HAS via a bluetooth proxy, without needing to have the switchbot hub?
Best tutorial I've ever seen. This got me up and running quickly. Thanks!
I'm glad you found it helpful.
Works like a charm 🎉 thanks a lot. What would you recommend to build a pi3 based NVR? It would be sufficient for me to write a split screen view like here.
Mine is running on a Pi3 just fine. The challenge now is that the software hasn't had an update in a long time, so I'm seeking out something that will work on the newer Pi OS
Thanks for the video. From the wifi address usage And network slowdown perspective - Does using matter over wifi connection better than direct wifi connection? I'm thinking of using over 50 wiz lights but worried about potential network issues it may lead to.
Matter over Wi-Fi still requires the devices to be connected to Wi-Fi, so won't do anything to mitigate any issues you're seeing with a lot of devices on your network.
It costed me $20 and I only ordered it for testing. I cant add the button into home assistant either.
It's a shame it's not working out for you, I had the same problems. I've moved on from using these.
I wish I have seen this video and not ordered this trash!
Sorry to hear you're having a bad experience.
Can you have configuration of this server like this - powered on from another network (iPhone cellular) and send all new photos and files to the server from iOS, than access your files from iPhone on those server (and will files be secure from some ransomware etc.)?
There's a few open source projects that might help you setup something like what you're talking about. I'm using Immich to store photos and I've setup `icloudpd` which syncs my iCloud photo library to the storage on the server. I've also got Nextcloud running on the server, which is like having my own hosted "Google Drive" where I can store files. Sounds like you're looking for some form of "Offsite Backup" to protect from Ransomware. There's always going to be risks, and no system is 100% Malware proof, but you could definitely setup something like that and you wouldn't even need a full Enterprise rig like this, you could just build something on an old PC.
I encountered the same problem as you, then I turn off the light from app and it did respond to movement, I dont think it has capacity to override actions. I could not see the motion senzor in the app, after you showed settings -> accessory I could manage the senzor. It seems your video is the only thing in the world that used the senzor.
Glad to hear you were able to get it working, unfortunately I decided it wasn't worth the time or money.
Could you please explain what it means to "put it in custom_components folder in configuration directory"? I have HA installed as an instance on Proxmox, I did not find any simple way to access its filesystem - how do I get there?
OK, figured it out. I had to add Samba plugin to HA, then I was able to simply access its filesystem, including config dir.
Yep, that's probably the easiest way. That said, I think SmartIR might now be available through HACS.
Before that this integration existed I used a yaml config to integrate the Sony Bravia and I saw all the channel list into the entity browser. Am I missing something in this OOTB integration?
Not quite sure what you're asking here, but generally speaking, when an integration is updated to a GUI Config from a YAML Config, you shouldn't lose any functionality, in some cases you may even gain some functionality because the auto-discovery will likely find items you may have missed in the YAML
whenever showing a device please don't wiggle it like you do while talking about it
I'll do what I can. But, I have ADHD, the fidgeting is part of it.
Does it support adaptive light?
Nice!
Thanks
I have all my three Prusa printers in HA.... every printer has it's own autoamtion for automatic power off 10 minutes after the state changes from "printing" to "finished". Really nice. In my printer cabinet is a smoke detector, which switches of the printers immediatly, when it's triggered. And via ESPHome, I have realised a status display like OctoScreen, but without an Octoprint. The only problem, what I have: the finish-time on the display is too wide and the format is not my thing.... but I didn't find a way to format this in the lambda-output. Does anyone has an idea? Best greeting from germany... Daniel
Love the video, I have a quick question, I have 3 separate led wifi Tuya COB light rolls and would like to connect them all together so the colors match. Is there a way I can group everything together in just motion?
Not Available in Canada!, Sad!
What a bummer!
Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it!
P.s….the fp2 and Home Assistant must be on the same vlan….not just the same wifi network….it will work…😊
Good Tip! Thanks
I was very disappointed with this video. It was advertised as integrating the fp2 on HA. I watched right the way to the end and only then did you admit failing to do it. I was interested as my son tried and failed as well.
Sorry to disappoint. I'm still figuring this out myself. I need to reset the unit and try again.
Glad you're back.
Thanks
What hardware you have attached to HA for the thread network?
I have the Home Assistant USB Stick (Used to be called SkyConnect) on my Demo server and a Home Assistant Yellow with the Silicon Labs chip for my production server.
@@HiveMindAutomation i tried 20 times to add a meross sensor to matter HA, using google home for thread. impossible mission
Can you do an updated version on this please, this no longer works since omxplayer has been phased out, the whole repository has changed on the raspberry pi softwares
This is why I ended up having to use an older release of RPiOS. but yes, I fully intend to figure out an updated mechanism and version of this.
@HiveMindAutomation Great that's amazing thank you for the reply. I look forward to seeing that. I have been trying to figure it out but I only found something called screenly 🤔 not sure what I'm going to use yet. I was hoping to figure out to use vlc over omxplayer but can't seem to find any info for that with displaycameras from github 😩🤦
@@HiveMindAutomation Been searching around for 2 years and nothing found yet...
Great video. I just installed mine and everything works. Although in Apple Home Kit it’s saying that it’s obstructed but it still works.? I have an old garage opener that doesn’t not have any sensors . Is there a fix?
Mine said obstructed initially too, but that went away after a while. I don't recall if there's a setting that you can modify for this.
Monitor has not integrated cam?
This particular monitor does not have an integrated WebCam. To be honest, I don't think the integrated Webcams are ever that good anyway, so you might be better off with a standalone one anyway.
How to hack Genio bulb the hard way.
this was several years ago, so yes, it was the hard way. it's probably much easier now. That said, the Tuya software has changed a lot since then and the newer versions of these bulbs no longer run on ESP microcontrollers, and may not be able to run Tasmota.
Setting the limits open and closed, does not work for me. Led does not turn blue, it turns pink and it does not store the position 😢
Interesting. I just got a second one of these recently and will be installing in my home office over the Christmas break. If you're having trouble setting the limits it might be worth resetting the whole unit and starting the process from scratch.
Hi, I have qubo smart cam 360 and I want to live stream the video on monitor /computer but the issue is I don't have the RSTP URL I asked the Qubo helpline to share the URL but they refused , Could you please let me know how to get RSTP URL?
I don't know anything about the Qubo Smart Cam, or even if it supports RTSP, but you might need to look at doing network scans of the device using something like nmap or other "hacker" tools. That said it's only going to get you part of the way. Your best bet is always manufacturer documentation, followed by open-source community forums/blogs/knowledge bases.
You might have some luck with something like: rtsp://192.168.1.100/channel1
Great video if all goes well. I can't get past first base. I have 7 life bulbs on my network that I can control with the Lifx app. I have got as far as adding the Lifx integration and only 1 light appears. I keep getting failed setup error on a second light. When I try to add and entry and leave the host field blank - I get " no devices found on the network". If I add an IP address for a light :failed to connect"....I thought this was going to be easy !!! Please help. TIA.
I'd suggest checking if all your bulbs are on the same network as your Home Assistant installation, as well as the Lifx app. It can also be helpful to restart the bulbs that aren't connecting if you're having trouble.
Why not use esphome? It has this ability and can have multiple sensors attached while having native integration with Home Assistant.
I'll be looking into this in the not too distant future as I have a lot more use cases for ESPHome and would prefer to give my ESP-32's double/triple duty and not have my MQTT traffic be so chatty.
NOT WORKING ANYMORE.
I know there's been a lot of changes to the Cloud Developer Toolkit lately, I'll need to take another run at local-tuya. To be honest though, I've given up on Tuya devices as - in spite of being part of the CSA developing Matter, I'm yet to see any Matter enabled devices from Tuya or their partners.
Love the video! Super detailed and easy to follow. That said, I do have a question regarding the "Host" name when making a new connection. When I go into HA>integrations>MQTT>configure, I don't see the IP address, but rather the host name "core-mosquito". How can I find the IP address?
You can normally use the same IP as your Home Assistant Instance if you're using the Home Assistant Add-on. The mosquitto port should automatically be forwarding to the mosquitto container.
Please can you use your mobile phone as home assistant server
As far as I know, No. You explicitly need a standalone server. There might be a way to do it but - in my opinion - it's not a good idea as a mobile phone is not designed to stay in the home 100% of the time, therefore would frequently disconnect from the smart home. There ARE ways to install Linux onto Android phones and you could potentially install Home Assistant on top of that install of linux, but the Phone would then need to stay in the home to be of any benefit to you.
Your channel deserves a 🎉million subscribers
Thanks for the kind words
Do you pay a Tuya monthly subscription fee?
I don't pay anything to Tuya. No subscriptioon or anything. I believe there ARE some advanced features you might unlock with a subscription, but I'm yet to find any that are compelling enough for me to pay them.
