- In this video we are going to show you how to connect an IKEA Trådfri Driver 30 Watt to a phillips Hue Bridge. The IKEA Trådfri Driver is used with IKEA’s Omlopp series & Ansluta series of Kitchen Cabinet Lightning system so this device will turn your kitchen into a Smart Home Kitchen. This works due to the Zigbee protocol and we will show you how to do this step by step. We’ll also plug in a Osram Smart+ Plug which we’ll go in-depth in our next video and teach you how to connect it to the phillips Hue Bridge. We are also going to demonstrate voice commands to control the IKEA Trådfri Driver through the Google Assistant via the Google Home Mini.

Life saver! Recently struggled to get my IKEA lights to work as I wanted. Switched to Hue Bridge/Switch from the IKEA HUB and it works. The bridge and switches I found used for cheap and teh hub also. IKEA lights are a good compromise instead of Phillips own lights which costs alot more.
I very rarely comment on videos, but thank you so much! I can't believe this isn't properly explained anywhere! (I'm guessing it's because IKEA want people to buy the gateway/Tradfri Hub instead) I knew there must've been a way with how the Hue Bridge supports third party lights but couldn't for the life of me work out how to connect it. Does this work with the IKEA kitchen lights that have built in motion sensors? Do you know if one of the lights detecting motion triggers all of them on the driver?
Hi mate! I have one issue. As you show in the video I am able to pair both devices the tradfri driver for wireless 30w with hue bridge but when I do this the tradfri wireless dimmer is unpaired. So I have the impression that I only pair with hue bridge the tradfri driver of 30w or with the dimmer but not both to the same time. Would be possible to pair both tradfri to the hue bridge?Many thanks!

I have the same setup, but would like to add a motion-sensor to control tradfri. This probably only works with original hue, right? As soon as I connect Vallhorn to Tradfri, it loses the hue-connection.

Yes, this was our older brothers kitchen and he uses a Philips Hue Dimmer Switch in his Kitchen and it works flawlessly 👍

Thanks. This video was helpful. I was able to connect my Norrfly lights to the Trafri driver, and connect my Tradfri to my Phillips hub. I can dim the lights on my Phillips app, but my Alexa doesn't recognize the Tradfri as a dimmable light. Alexa only turns the lights on and off. Any thoughts? Do I have to purchase the Gateway and/or the Tradfri remote? Thanks again. **Update - Yup, I needed the remote. I watched your other video on pairing the remote to Hue, and now the lights dim with Alexa!
I don't how Alexa works but the Philips Hue bridge with Google Home works without any issues and you can dim the the Trådfri light.
Thanks for the video! Just to make sure: I only need the driver to connect it to the Hue Bridge, then it automatically shows up in my Google home because it´ts connected via Hue App? Do you happen to know if I can use HomeKit this way too (without needing a tradfri gateway)?
No problem and thanks for watching! 😊 In the Google Home app you have to add your Philips Hue account. Unfortunately Homekit will not work with third party devices connected to Philips Hue bridge.

Thanks, guys. Great to be able to control these drivers in the Hue app.
However, I would also like to have local control, so I purchased some IKEA Trådfri dimming switches and once I pair one of those to the IKEA Trådfri driver, the connection between that driver and Philips Hue is lost. The only way to get it back is to reset the driver and set everything up in the Hue app again. Quite unfortunate that you can't use the drivers with both the Hue system and IKEA Trådfri switches. Any inpuit to this? Perhaps even a solution? :)
No problem at all! We're happy to hear that you found success using this tutorial.
You can just buy regular Philips Hue Dimmer Switches to control the lights like you want to. That's the easiest way and that's what my older brother who owns the kitchen in the video does.
But if you want to connect an IKEA Trådfri Dimmer Switch you can use this tutorial we made to connect a Trådfri Sensor. Just replace the sensor in this video with the Trådfri Dimmer Switch and follow the video.

@@HumanSuten Thanks, I watched that video already and tried that, but it seems that I have quite a few problems with Touchlink. I'm not sure if it's my Hue Bridge (version 2.1) that is to blame, or if it something else... but I have tried 2 different apps: "Hue Essentials" (in this one, the "Touchlink" button doesn't work at all. I don't know whether it's only active in the paid version of the app, or if it's a bug in the current version) and "all 4 hue" (I paid for the full version of this one, but still can't get the IKEA Trådfri Dimmer Switch to connect to the Hue Bridge with Touchlink at all. I will try with a Philips Hue Smart button instead. :)

The only down side to connecting it to hue is that the ikea remote control that can be purchased separately will stop working if you connect the light to hue. So u can either use the ikea remote or hue system can't use both 😢 which is sad. I would use hue when at home from my mobile but then my family can not use the remote to switch on the light when I'm away (they have to pair the remote again)
I was able to setup my lights with the receiver in the Hue app (I'm using the Hue bridge) but now I can't use the remote control (Styrbar) that I got with the light. I can either use the Hue app or the remote control, not both at the same time. Any idea why?

We have our kitchen lights via Ikea, led-"lists" like 12 of them.
They are connected to the grey boxes that i have synced with the round remote.
Can i also (i want the remote to function as normal) pair the grey boxes / led-lists to my hue bridge ?

Yes absolutely, I understood what you meant and you can do that. But easiest way is to buy a Philips Hue Dimmer Switch which would work seamlessly without any problem or issues.
If you want the connect the Trådfri Remote then connect it using the same method that we used to connect the Trådfri Sensor in the video i linked 😊
Is the Tradfri LED Driver really dimmable through philips hue ecosystem after you set it up ?
Yes, we have it in our parents apartment, our older brother's apartment (as seen in this video) and in our older sister's apartment. Dimming works without issues using the Philips Hue app.
Is there any way to do the opposite , for example I have an LED phillips light strip, and i have an Ikea Bridge (not sure if that’s actually what it’s called) and I don’t really want to purchase a phillips hue bridge if i don’t have to !

They may be able to help you out, seems like you can actually connect Philips Hue products to the IKEA Trådfri Gateway but with some limitations like not getting the color spectrum and so on.

Can you dim the lights as well with the hue system?
Yes, all works perfectly both with the Philips Hue app and the Google Home app. You can dim the lights and turn them off.
Thanks for Sharing your project. I am preparing a similar task but but wonder if your existing spot were 12v or 24v. Seems ikea tradfri driver only exists with 24v output and my old spots are 12v and basically all other low profile spots on marked is 12v.

Hej. Tredjepartsprodukter som kopplas med Philips Hue dyker inte upp i Apple Homekit tyvärr, endast Philips Hue produkter gör det.
I used these lights besides a mirror. Looks great but noticed that when I’m in bed and the room is dark they glow. Does anyone else’s lights glow when turned off? They stop if I flick the plug off.
Not sure what kind of plug you have but if it's two pin it might help to turn it around.

Hej, kan man fortfarande ha en trådfri fysisk knapp kopplad till lampan om man gör en reset och kopplar den till hue. Så man fortfarande kan använda knappen?, vilket såklart är smidigt emellanåt.

Does it show up in apple homekit when connected to hue bridge?
I don't know as we don't use Apple products. But this should show up like the rest of the products you have paired with the Philips Hue Bridge as the Trådfri products show up in the Philips Hue app.
The room showed up in Apple Homekit but not the driver. I think it still requires the IKEA bridge for it to work.
My lights hooked up just like yours but they flag every 10 seconds. Any ideas why

Det går att koppla Trådfri Driver samtidigt med Hue som IKEAs multi knapp dock blir det inte samma funktionalitet som du skulle ha med en Trådfri Gateway. Du kommer bara kunna släcka och tända.

I would suggest you just use a Philips Hue Dimmer Switch to control the Trådfri Driver, it's much easier and has a lot more functionality.

No, you can buy a Philips Hue dimmer switch to use as a remote if you've would like a physical remote for the Trådfri Drivers when it's connected to the Philips Hue Bridge.

We're not using the IKEA Gateway. We're using the Philips Hue Bridge in this tutorial. So it's a very different method compared to connecting to the IKEA Gateway.

Third-party devices connected to Philips Hue will not unfortunately show up in Homekit. Only Hue products will.
