I had redone a 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Futura two door Ht., first year hard top, no door post . I won one first place trophy and a second place trophy at a couple of local car shows in southern Illinois in 1989, while in college. The automobile's color was wibleton white and red vinyl interior, had a leather look to it. I also installed new loop original Pyle carpet in the car. The automobile averaged 26 mpg. Highway and 23 mph. in town, very economical !!! I enjoyed your video on his Falcon Futura. Kevin Phoenix, Steeleville, Illinois.

Tropical turquoise.....says it all about 1963. Futura. Was so bright ya gotta wear shades. Interiors were so much more colorful in them days. Thanks Lou.
My Dad was not a car guy, but he loved his Falcons. He had a 1960 black 4 door, a 1962 black 4 door, a 1964 maroon 4 door wagon and a light blue 1968 2 door...all of these were the most "stripped down" versions available. None of these cars made anything even close to 100 hp. When the all new "63 and a half" Fords arrived (including the V8 powered Falcon Sprint), my Dad took notice. One Saturday morning, he and I went down to the local Ford dealer and actually took a bright red Sprint hardtop out for a brief test drive. By the smile on his face, I just knew he was going to buy that car...and all those years of riding around in "plain Jane" and terribly slow Falcons, would soon be over. I would be getting my learner's permit soon and driving a new Sprint would do wonders for my social life. Sadly, it was not to be...after spending what seemed like an eternity with the salesman, Dad and I walked out of the showroom in total silence. On the way home, I asked him what happened with the salesman. He cleared his throat and said tersely " too much money...bet they probably get lousy gas mileage too". Years later, long after I'd left home, he bought a brand new (and fully loaded) LTD with a 4 barrel 390...evidently gas mileage was no longer a concern.

Lou, this car is a historical document of 1963. Those of us who remember that year were just treated to a trip back. Great job and thanks to Dennis for sharing his beautiful little Falcon.
Beautiful example of one of my favorite cars. The '63 Sprint was the pinnacle of the Falcon in my opinion. Just a pleasing car from every angle inside and out and that color is a knockout.
Very nice Falcon! The old brochures are awesome- love the Trunk and Treats. Whole different world when it came to advertising. Great Car Story as always Lou, thanks!

This car is absolutely magnificent ...Congratulations to you sir ...Ford Falcon from 1960 to 2016 here in Australia ...Nearly four million built and very much loved ..Our Futura's were only ever straight 6's . I own a 2001 AU Series 2 Futura myself and have owned it so far 21 years.. She has the SOHC 4.0 litre Intech inline six ..Great engine . Also have a stunning 2008 FG series 1 XR6 with the famous Barra 4.0 litre DOHC inline 6 with full VCT and a 6 speed ZF sequential transmission .. The Turbo version is a V8 destroyer if ever there was.. Even the N/A version like mine is amazing ..

It always amazes me that Ford put a V-8 in some of these "economy" cars! Thanks Lou for showcasing this beautiful example of the Falcon Futura! The Peanuts characters in Falcon brochure were a great advertising gimic! Dennis is a lucky guy to be it's current "custodian" ! Take good care of that Tropical Turquoise beauty!😉
Hey Lou, what a treat this Falcon. I never liked these cars much, this one though; the degree of detailing is fantastic and like showroom condition. Never knew about the Sprint or the 260-thought they were all 6’s. Always appreciate the chance to learn something new about a prominent classic. Another great car!
Hey Lucky, You're right.....except late in 1963 you could order this 260 CI V8 which is why this is so rare. Happy to read we're learning together, and I find that to be so fun :-) Lou
Back in 2004 for the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, Lee Iacocca was on Jay Leno's UA-cam channel and they were discussing the origins of the Mustang. Iacocca mentioned that Henry Ford II was disappointed in how Falcon customers were not loading up their new cars with enough options (this beautiful restored example is an exception). One of the goals of the Mustang was to motivate customers to order more options than on the Falcon and bring increased profit. Ford's marketing department only expected 100,000 annual sales of the Mustang, so that is why the Mustang was heavily based on the Falcon. The 1960 Falcon was one of the most important cars every introduced by Ford because so many future cars were based on it: Comet, the 1962 Fairlane and Meteor, Mustang, and the Maverick. Falcons from 1960 to 1965 have really appreciated in recent years....even plain Tudors and Fordors. For a long time they were all considered throw away cars and were cheap to buy because most collectors favored the Mustang. BTW, your camera has high quality resolution but your recording bounces up and down as you walk...would you consider using a tripod to keep the frame steady?

This is the most underrated Classic that Ford made. Affordable for the people starting out in the classic car market too, if you go for the 6 cylinders

Goodday Lou, It was great talking to you again & you were right a great video to watch before going to bed at 2:30 am after a hard week of lockdown in Melbourne. All Dennis needs & again he seems like a ace of a guy, a matching Hawaiian Turquoise Shirt, Panama Hat & cruising around Miami. Ford Australia introduced a similar looking Falcon here in Australia about 1963. We had the XM then the XP Falcon. The hardtop's are very popular where everyone drops 302 V8 Windsor into them. The XM & XP only came as a 6 cylinder here in Australia. Beautiful tropical colour reminds me of the great TV show Miami Vice. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Goodday Louis, You're right, this would be a Miami Cruiser for sure :-) These usually came with six's in the USA, however late in the model year considered a 1963 1/2 was the optional V8. Thanks for being my # 1 Fan in Australia, Lou
It's gorgeous, Lou. The paint looks fantastic and the V-8, 4 speed and bench seat truly make it special. Thanks for finding & sharing Dennis and his `63 & 1/2 Falcon with the channel!

Lou, my Dad had a ‘63 170ci auto a 4-door he babied her it was the same light blue . He came home from work one day and it wasn’t shifting right , so he pulled the trans and went through it on our kitchen table put it back in and left to work that morning! My Dad didn’t care much about horsepower but in 1969 my Uncle borrowed the Falcon and totaled her out ! He was upset for the rest of his life ! The car he bought next was the ‘69 XL it had horsepower! This car brought back memories! Thank You !

Congrats to owner on a beauty Futura - love the '63 and '64's and although the Mustang was derived from this, I'd have the Falcon thanks. Love the sporty roofline / C pillar - timeless. Thanks Lou

This is the car that got me started. My parents bought a new '63 Futura also with the 260, but it had a 2-speed Ford-O-Matic in it. My father taught me how to change plugs with this car. Little did he realize how that contributed to my eventual carcosis, and why I never had a wife and kids. They traded the Falcon in on a new Mazda in 1972, despite me begging them to give me the car for my 16th birthday. I ran away from home and never talked to them again.
LOL. Giving a Falcon the name of the pre-batmobile 1955 Lincoln Futura! Cool ! The future drivetrain of the Sunbeam Tiger and the first Shelby Cobra, both with only 2-barrel carbs. I've heard that carroll Shelby was instrumental in the development of the Ford 260 V8. Also the future V8 drivetrain of the forthcoming Mustang. The Falcon Sprints were cool with their bucket seats and console. Sort of a mini-T-Bird! Yep, that's what I grew up with, the steering column-mounted registration. Thank you and, yes, I already gave it a "thumbs-up".

I raced my dad's 260 w/3spd, at the local drag strip. Fastest time of the day for M stock, at ET of 16.61. Showed him the timing slip years later. He was amused!

Truly beautiful Falcon, and so wonderful to be able to experience as if driving out of the factory, and a rare model at that!! In Australia (we never got this model) the hood scoop had a chrome Falcon on certain models, including my grandfathers immaculate four door in Broadmeadows green (Australia had names like Koala grey, Waratah red, Wattlebark tan and Pacific blue) I inherited that car, but left home and mum sold it for $600 in mid eighties. They just were not worth anything at that time. Now if you find one in similar condition they are around 27 to high 30 thousand.
I have long wanted a 1963 Sprint. Never got one. But I did own a 1964 2 door hardtop with the 289 4bbl. It was a rat! I drove it daily to work. But I never got around to restoring that car. Too bad. I got a nice 1966 Fairlane with a 289 soon after though. I also had a 1963 Fairlane 2 door hardtop with the 260. These 260s and 289s got excellent gas mileage.

Back in the day, I owned half a dozen of the round body Falcons. A Ranchero, a Sedan Delivery, a Futura convertible, a Futura hardtop, a 2 door station wagon and a Sprint. Wish I'd kept them all. They were just cars, back in the 70s. Nice car, BTW, great video!

Hi, Lou! The Ford Falcon debuted for the 1960 model year, along with its Big Three competitors, the Chevrolet Corvair and Plymouth Valiant. The Falcon was the best seller by far, but the Futura that was added for 1961 was Ford's response to the success of the sportiest Corvair, the Monza. As you guys mentioned, the Falcon hardtop was a mid-year addition in 1963, along with a Galaxie hardtop with a similarly sporty roofline to go with the one with the formal Thunderbird roofline. Much of this had to do with racing. This Falcon looks fabulous in that Tropical Turquoise shade, and it really seems to fly, much like an actual falcon! The association with Peanuts had been part of the Falcon advertising campaign since the car's introduction. BTW, I just received the latest issue of Reminisce magazine, which reminded me it has now been 70 years since Peanuts first began to appear in the newspaper comics. It's been my favorite comic strip ever since I was a kid. This video's got me trying to think of other cars named for birds. There's the Plymouth Road Runner, Buick Skylark and Skyhawk, Studebaker Hawk and Lark, AMC Eagle and Willys Aero-Eagle. There's also the Thunderbird, although that's not a real bird. If I think of any more, I'll let you know. Anyway, thanks, Lou and Dennis for another fun ride! I'll be back for more!
I have a soft spot for these 60s Falcons. Our first family car was a 63 Falcon Wagon Deluxe, actually the first car my Parents owned. We'd go everywhere in the Falcon, Dad and Mum and the six of us kids. Kudos to the owner! Thanks once again for taking us along Lou!

My grandmother had a 66 futura coupe, 6 cylinder and automatic, I was born in 67 and have so many memories of us in that car going to get ice cream in the early 70s

Hi Lou, great video as always!! Jay Leno has one of these, his is a '63 Falcon Sprint.... he's also a member of the Falcon Club... That club must have some famous members! The 260 V8 was originally designed for the Fairlane, my Dad had that engine in his 64 Fairlane Sports Coupe.

Very nice combo. I had a 63 Falcon Futura convertible with the 260, 4-speed in triple black. I drove it for 15 years. At the same time I had a 64 Ranchero, 170-6 cyl, 3-on-the-tree.

Absolutely gorgeous unit Lou! I love this color style and lines and the extra detailing they did to this car when it was produced. Such a refreshing but yet rich looking car with this color. Just loved the ride along and that had to be a fun ride Lou! Loved the owner of this unit and his vast knowledge of his treasure! What a outstanding piece of automotive history!! Lou thanks for sharing I really liked this video!
Best looking Falcon! We had a ‘65 Futura when I was 11, but the ‘64-‘65’s were very square and boxy. The ‘60-‘63’s had rounded edges and just looked better to me. By the time I was in college in ‘72, one of my frat brothers bought a well-used ‘63, similar to this one, except with bucket seats and automatic.
That was a lot of fun. I never would have guessed that a V8 Falcon Futura would have that rumble! Even though Falcon was Ford's economy car, the Futura interior looked like a more expenisve car. Thanks so much for sharing!
@@loucostabile Hey Lou, I subcribed the other day...and now I've hit the bell so I'll be on notice. Uh-oh, I see a 1964 1.2 Mustang Convertible K Code 289 that I'm going to take a look at! Oh wow, and a 1955 Mercury Montclair 2 dorr hartdop in white & Green....man alive, I'm going to be busy! Even if the car isn't suite to me, like the 1961 Buick, and I LOVE Buicks, I still give it a thumbs up because your content is always so spot on and the details of your vids are perfect!

There are coups in Australia where Ford Australia produced the Falcon. My dad had a 62 XM 170 pursuit falcon wagon. It was a deluxe and it had a red interior with 170 pursuit chrome writing in the middle of the dash with crossed finish line chequered flags. The falcon takes me back to childhood. Love it!

My dad had a White 2dr Futura and a Blue 4Dr Falcon in the late Sixties, early Seventies. We took the Blue Falcon to visit my Nana in Boston around 1969 and my sister and girl cousins were bossing me around at the park, so I took off on them and got hopelessly lost. Some older kids were playing street hockey and asked me why I was crying. I told them what happened and they said I was going to get put in an orphanage, like in Oliver. Just then I see the nose of the Falcon 'round the corner and I told them "I'm not going to an orphanage, there's my dad!" I ran to the car knowing I was going to get something to cry about, but when we got back I could tell everybody was just relieved they found me. That Falcon lives on in my memory some 50+ years later...
My brother in law owned one of these same everything in light blue and I owned a 63 sprint 4 speed 289 in silver red interior love these cars wish I still had mine now thanks Lou.
A Mustang with a grownup's body LOL. The first-year Mustangs had the same engine. Truth be told I'd rather have had the Falcon Sprint than the first-year Mustang. Back in my rowdy youth, I helped a friend take a 6 cylinder out of one of these and drop in a 289 V8. Either it didn't want to fit or we didn't know what we were doing (very likely) because it gave us fits but we got it done. Nothing like a little on the job training for a teenager LOL. Great video Lou thanks for sharing this frisky little bird with us.

Great little car with a V8 and 4 speed, still looking new at 57 years of age. If their was only 200 made in that configuration that is more than likely the only one left. Thanks Lou! Lou i have to tell you my eyes were wondering to that blue car with the silver stripes along side the building I think a video of the Lou mobile would be nice. :)
That lightweight car doesn't need a big engine the 260 has more than enough power especially with the 4 speed transmission. Most Falcons came with the 144 or 170 six cylinder engine and the three speed manual or the two speed automatic transmission. You could think of this one as a predecessor of the Mustang since they were very similar mechanically. GM and Chrysler introduced small block V8 engines into their competing cars around the same time.
Wonderful Falcon! Dennis is very blessed with some nice classic gems. I appreciate perfectionism very much also! Attention to detail and being fussy is a good thing Lou. :)
Super nice car!! I had a 63 falcon sedan delivery, 170 six, drag raced it for a long time! Set nat record,& more!,not set up, only a $3.00 exhaust cut out,&411 rear, it never! Broke down on me!, Owned it ,64___73, should never! Sold it!!!, It ran ahra, mostly at Fremont, , Sacramento,,too, never lost! In class f 10, d stock!!, Miss it bad!!!!, Not many where made!, Gene, calif...
Cool Car 👍😎 , my family had a 1960 Falcon Station wagon that we bought used in the mid 70's for our little business and I loved that car! Was a White Car with Red Interior, always liked that color combo with Cars, and it was a very reliable Automobile. Thank you for sharing this rare beauty 👍‼️💪😺🇺🇸

The owner mentioned that it's like a mini Galaxy and it really does. My family also had a 63 Galaxy 500 XL and that was a cool car too, but my Mom didn't really like it because it was too much like a "HotRod", of course me being a young teen I loved it and I think my Dad was a little sick when he traded it in for a 66 LTD Brougham, a little more like a family car, it too was a nice Car.
Just a beautiful car Lou!! Always been a fan of these early Falcon Coupes. The Australian ones were very similar - except we didn't get V8s back then - not til 1966. I have to say the Australian 64 & 65 models were a bit more attractive though. This example you're showing is stunning!! Tiger.
I’m quite sure we had the v8s earlier? We have a 63 ford fairlane which is just the luxury version of the falcon, and it came factory with a 2 speed automatic 260 v8
I HAVE A 63 1/2 FALCON RANCHERO, 260, 4 BARREL 600 CFM, EDELBROCK CARB, 289 EDELBROCK PERFORMER INTAKE, DUALS, FLOWMASTERS, YOU SHOULD HEAR THE SOUND, SWEET. THEY MADE 1,615 RANCHEROS WITH THE 260. IT'S PRETTY FAST FOR A SMALL ENGINE.
AT A CAR SHOW IN WHITTIER I SAW A 63 LIKE THIS WITH AN FE 427, 2-4 BARRELS, YIKES, IT WAS WHITE, YOU SHOULD HAVE HEARD THAT ENGINE, MUST BE PRETTY HEAVY IN THE FRONT THOUGH, TONS OF POWER.

Lovely car, we never got V8s down under in the early falcons, from 67 on we did. Ours had to have extra metal put into the frames and heavier ball joints to stand our roads at the time. Australia made falcons till 2016, many incantations, they were very popular here. Now the DOHC Barra engine is a legend, a great grandson of the old 144, it came a long way form 1960.

A buddy back in high school had a ‘62? ‘63? Futura. Yes, it was definitely a Futura and not just a plain FalconI remember it having a 170 ci six cyl., bucket seats, the square roof, auto, and the really neat part....hydraulic wipers. Pouring down rain stepping on the gas and the wipers stalling out because all power was being used to excellerate. Neat little car he bought for something like 200 bucks from his aunt who had bought it new,. It had low miles no body rot. Betcha he wishes he still had it today!

Nice car, and in mint condition. The Falcon was made in Argentina, believe it or not, for almost 30 YEARS !!, from 1962 to 1991 with basically the SAME base, with changes in the interior and different front and rear lights and many front grils, so you can guess that it was an inmensely popular car. The only model not available was sadly the coupe, and only with 188 and 221 CI six cylinders.
great stuff, lou, my dad had a early 1960s white ford falcon, in ny, before the family went from 6 to 7 , after moving from brooklyn to long island. have a super day ,cheers from italy,,,love, robert
I had two Falcons, mint green, 1961 4 dr 144 cid and 62 coupe 170 automatic, white, red interior with console. I ran both to death. I envied people who owned Sprints, particularly V8. Love this color and car. Today, I have a 65 Mustang 2+2. If I had a big garage, I'd have a Sprint too. Ford didn't seem interested in keeping the Falcons competitive.

I had 1960 falcon, friend wrecked his 1964 falcon Ranchero pick up. Put the 289 and 4 speed and rear end in my 60 falcon. Tricked the motor a bit 4barrel holly headers. It still looked like a 60 Falcon, did well in street racing.😊

My first car I bought in 69' was a 63' Falcon Futura convertible. Mine was Oxford Blue. I had a 170 CI 6 cylinder with a three speed manual column shift. I never saw any 63 Falcon that didn't have backup lights I am a little surprised to see this one without them, I almost want to say whoever restored that car made a mistake there. Speaking about the color, a Ford salesman showed my dad and me a brand new 1965 Galaxie 500 that was that color and he said it was called Robin Egg Blue. It was the only car I ever saw that color until this video.

A Falcon wagon owner at the wagon forum added some nice touches to his, swapping the instrument cluster for one out of a Mercury Comet. He also added the Mercury's steering wheel and dash trim. The car I drove started to shift better, once I started using fully-synthetic gear oil

Thanks Lou.
Hi rizzle, Quite the rare treat with the factory 260 CI engine :-) Glad to read you enjoy the color of this car. You're welcome, Lou
My Dad was not a car guy, but he loved his Falcons. He had a 1960 black 4 door, a 1962 black 4 door,
a 1964 maroon 4 door wagon and a light blue 1968 2 door...all of these were the most "stripped down"
versions available. None of these cars made anything even close to 100 hp. When the all new "63 and
a half" Fords arrived (including the V8 powered Falcon Sprint), my Dad took notice. One Saturday morning,
he and I went down to the local Ford dealer and actually took a bright red Sprint hardtop out for a brief test
drive. By the smile on his face, I just knew he was going to buy that car...and all those years of riding around
in "plain Jane" and terribly slow Falcons, would soon be over. I would be getting my learner's permit soon
and driving a new Sprint would do wonders for my social life. Sadly, it was not to be...after spending what
seemed like an eternity with the salesman, Dad and I walked out of the showroom in total silence. On
the way home, I asked him what happened with the salesman. He cleared his throat and said tersely " too
much money...bet they probably get lousy gas mileage too". Years later, long after I'd left home, he bought
a brand new (and fully loaded) LTD with a 4 barrel 390...evidently gas mileage was no longer a concern.

Beautiful example of one of my favorite cars. The '63 Sprint was the pinnacle of the Falcon in my opinion. Just a pleasing car from every angle inside and out and that color is a knockout.
On the same page with you there. The car is perfect.
Hi Joseph, Happy to read this one is a KO Winner for you :-) Lou
I prefer the 60-65 Falcon's body style over the Mustang notch back. I especially like the 64-65 Falcon.

Goodday Lou,
It was great talking to you again & you were right a great video to watch before going to bed at 2:30 am after a hard week of lockdown in Melbourne.

He came home from work one day and it wasn’t shifting right , so he pulled the trans and went through it on our kitchen table put it back in and left to work that morning!
Hi 413x398, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@413x398 that is much too sad on many counts
HI Automated Electronics, Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou

Truly beautiful Falcon, and so wonderful to be able to experience as if driving out of the factory, and a rare model at that!! In Australia (we never got this model) the hood scoop had a chrome Falcon
on certain models, including my grandfathers immaculate four door in Broadmeadows green (Australia had names like Koala grey, Waratah red, Wattlebark tan and Pacific blue) I inherited that car, but left home and mum sold it for $600 in mid eighties.

Absolutely Blueteful.🔘
Be willing to bet that's the last one still intact in that configuration 🤔
Hi X K, "Absolutely Blueteful" N I C E :-) Lou

Hi Newton, You might be right, and that makes this one rare Bird :-) Lou P.S. Enjoy this link ua-cam.com/video/_cVNSu5xv6Y/v-deo.html
Extremely rare and beautiful 😍 Thank you Lou!

Wonderful Falcon! Dennis is very blessed with some nice classic gems. I appreciate perfectionism very much also! Attention to detail and being fussy is a good thing Lou. :)

Great ride! Thanks for sharing..
My pleasure sharing with you :-) You're welcome.
This has got to be the sweetest Falcon I've ever seen. We had a red Falcon station wagon over 50 yrs ago and I can't remember if it had 2 or 4 doors.
Hi David, High praise for this rare Bird :-) Glad to read you had a Wagon too, Lou
Just a beautiful car Lou!! Always been a fan of these early Falcon Coupes. The Australian ones were very similar - except we didn't get V8s back then - not til 1966. I have to say the Australian 64 & 65 models were a bit more attractive though. This example you're showing is stunning!! Tiger.
Hi Tiger, Happy to read this one is stunning :-) Cheers, Lou
I’m quite sure we had the v8s earlier? We have a 63 ford fairlane which is just the luxury version of the falcon, and it came factory with a 2 speed automatic 260 v8
@@rhysjensen3761 I do believe you are right !!
Beautiful car and color
Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
I HAVE A 63 1/2 FALCON RANCHERO, 260, 4 BARREL 600 CFM, EDELBROCK CARB, 289 EDELBROCK PERFORMER INTAKE, DUALS, FLOWMASTERS,
YOU SHOULD HEAR THE SOUND, SWEET. THEY MADE 1,615 RANCHEROS WITH THE 260. IT'S PRETTY FAST FOR A SMALL ENGINE.
Hi David, Happy to read you have a FUN car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
AT A CAR SHOW IN WHITTIER I SAW A 63 LIKE THIS WITH AN FE 427, 2-4 BARRELS, YIKES, IT WAS WHITE, YOU SHOULD HAVE HEARD THAT ENGINE, MUST BE PRETTY HEAVY IN THE FRONT THOUGH, TONS OF POWER.
Hi David, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the car you saw :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

These 1960-1963 Falcons were a very solid feeling car. I had a 1962 4 door. And my brother had a 1960 4 door wagon. Each had the 6 cyl.
Thank you for sharing your experience with yours
Lovely car, we never got V8s down under in the early falcons, from 67 on we did. Ours had to have extra metal put into the frames and heavier ball joints to stand our roads at the time. Australia made falcons till 2016, many incantations, they were very popular here. Now the DOHC Barra engine is a legend, a great grandson of the old 144, it came a long way form 1960.

Hi Paul, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou

Please remember to watch the commercials at the beginning of the video (or at least the ones you can), as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you :-)
I had 1960 falcon, friend wrecked his 1964 falcon Ranchero pick up.

Hi Monique, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Lou
The original engine for those cars , was a straight six - cylinders , as I remember ,
nice car
You're right.....except late in 1963 you could order this 260 CI V8 which is why this is so rare.
The base for the mustang, and the first cobras had Windsor 260s if I recall
