On "My Car Story" we're at the Rosemont IL on 3-1-23 at the World of Wheels car show.
We're looking at a 1963 ½ Ford Galaxie 500 in Black Cherry Paint. The car is equipped with a 427 CI V8 engine, with a automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Mike Giertuga. Mike’s had this car since 2021. Mike shares he and his Brother had 1963 Galaxies they used to race, and he had the 390 CI and his Brother had the 427 CI. Well years later Mike saw this one for sale and finally has the 427 CI his Brother has too.

WOW ! Now That's a Galaxie ! Great color and a 427 ! Thanks for posting Lou !
Hi Rudy, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
In 1964 my Dad bought a 63 1/2 and was special ordered with the dual quad 427, 4 speed and locker rear end. It was metallic gold with a white roof, and had white interior with with bucket seat and console and it was FAST. He was a serious drag racer in the '50s and '60s and in '57 had bought a Fairlane Custom 300 with the Paxton Supercharged 312 and 3 on the tree trans. Later in the mid '70s I had followed in his footsteps with a '67 GT Mustang Fastback with a Holman-Moody 427, 4 speed and 3.90 27 spline Locker that was putting out a true 630hp on the dyno that ran low 12's in street trim. I love that motor and was so lucky to have had one. Thank you so very much for the walk down Memory Lane with such a beautiful ride.

Very nice! There are no surprises there is something special under the hood when your hear the exhaust note. The black cherry paint looks fantastic as well, and I love the combo of old school style w/modern upgrades to make this a fun to drive classic. Thanks, Lou!
Lol, sounds like a little bit more than a stock 410 hp. Q code.
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, "There are no surprises there is something special under the hood when your hear the exhaust note." Well said. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
That's a real gem! 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 in a sharp looking Black Cherry paint job! The 427 engine sounded healthy, and the cutouts made all the difference! I like the upgrade to the instrument cluster, and also the 5-speed overdrive manual transmission! That's a beautiful Ford! Nice find Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to share this "real gem!" with you :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Morning, Lou -
Now, THAT'S a Ford!
I've always admired that color on the early '60s Fords.
Love the sound of that 427...
Hi Dave, Happy to read "Now, THAT's a Ford!" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
That is one bad ass Ford! That exhaust note is all business. You won't get an EV to emit that kind of emotion and raw muscle. Beautiful paint as well. I'm so glad the owner was able to find this fine car and relive many fond memories of his youth. As always, we'll done, Lou!
Hi Charles, "That is one bad ass Ford!"...just the way we like it :-) Lou
Absolutely beautiful, just listen to it, still watching Lou from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇲😊😎👍🍺🍺🍺KC 😊
Hi Metal Mania 3D TV, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and sounds from this car :-) Cheers, Lou
Beautiful car I love it. I was 14 when these were new 😋
Happy to read "I love it" :-)
The 427 in its many modes was not an engine to be taken lightly and could best most of what Chevy and Mopar put out. At one point in time I had 3 of these magnificent motors and got a chance to actually play and see what they could do. The engines were a major effort for Ford and the engineering that went into the motors was a top drawer effort. The 3 different engines(low, medium, high rise) gave differing flavors to the engines. I applaud Ford for the efforts to tame a pure race engine for the street. Beautiful car and the black cherry paint is right on!
Hi Tom, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Happy to read "Beautiful car and the black cherry paint is right on!" :-) Lou
Were those 427's back then the rare side Oilers that were very powerful engines...
It's just simply good to see a Ford highlighted instead of a Chevy. Chevy's are totally overrated. I like Ford much better.
The race 426 Hemi says otherwise.
@@jts9120FORD 427 CAMMER says otherwise !!!
That Galaxie sounds great - wow is right.
Thanks Mike and Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to share the sounds of this car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Truly my dream car! Dying to get 64 project rolling again
Happy to read this is a "dream car" for you. Hope you get your project rolling again soon.
Doesn't get much better than this .
High praise :-)
Watching & listening on my P.C. with six speaker surround sound. Better than coffee in the morning.
NICE !
This car's a monster Lou. The big cam and exhaust cutouts sounded like fireworks going off under the car. In the late '70's my neighbor was in love with '63 1/2 Galaxies, and would make trips from Staten Island to anywhere down south to find rust-free examples. I'll never forget a white Q-code he came back with once- it was all original and looked like it was just driven off the showroom floor. He looked at me and said "now this one Tom, I had to pay $3,500 for, can you believe it? The prices are going through the roof!!" Cracks me up when I think about it. Awesome video Lou. Love the modifications this owner did.
Hi Tom & JudyAnn, Happy to share this "Monster" with you. This one is probably is a bit more than $3500.00 today :-) Lou

1963 was a good year. Lot's of classics were born then. Really nice car. I love the color and the dash instrumentation looks excellent.
Hi damkayaker, Happy to read "Really nice car" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Yeah Lou, THAT'S the best kind of loud - music to our ears! Sure sounds like solid lifters slapping away in there. Can't get enough of THAT kind of music. Beautiful car! Thanks Brother - you nailed 'er again!
Hi lonnyjaw, "THAT'S the best kind of loud - music to our ears!" I agree. My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful. I was 17 in 1968 and had a '63 Galaxie XL 2 door with the original roof. 352 ci with bucket seats and glass pack dual exhaust and the old school chrome reverse wheels. Sure wish I had that car now. Thanks for displaying this Ford Classic!
Hi Larry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile appreciate the reply. My Galaxie was so dear to me back then. In 1971 I traded it in for a '70 Torino GT 302 ci and enjoyed it for several years.
What a gem Lou. Ty for sharing.
My pleasure sharing this one with you acts2211 :-)
I love everything he’s done to this beautiful Ford ! Upgraded digital dash, cut-outs and especially the 5 speed.. I’m guessing the Blackcherry wasn’t a factory color on a 63 1/2 Ford also… stunning car, Love it !👍🏼
Hi Richard, High praise :-) Lou
No, I don't believe black cherry was a factory color. The closest would be Heritage Burgundy. I noticed that the color code in the door jam was A, which is Black, so I'm guessing the car was repainted. The black cherry does look nice.
@@BrianChappie Obviously a repaint because of the "orange peel" condition. Only black, in 1963, was Raven Black.
I owned a 631/2 XL 352 BW 4SPEEd manual the same paint Factory paint.

Love that car! My best friend in high school had a 63 Ford Galaxie 500, but not a 427. I had a 63 Chevy Impala SS327 at the same time. Common for teens in my area to get ten year old cars we paid for by working in the fields in the summer. He hoed beans, I detasseled corn and worked at the family grocery store. Lots of fond memories tooling around in that 500. Thanks for sharing guys!
Hi Rick, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Best Friend in High Schools car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile do you happen to know the colors for that year, or an easy way to find out? Kelly's car was sort of a rust-red if I recall. I don't know if it had been repainted or if that was an original color. When I search, I see "rangoon red", but it was def not that.
That’s a forever car for sure. Speed, class, sound, and high attention to detail. Labor of love to be sure.
Hi Arthur, Happy to read "That’s a forever car for sure" :-) Lou

Nice Galaxie.....I own a 65 Galaxie 500 with 427 4spd , so I can really appreciate this 63.... the earlier Galaxies were much more ornate than the 65, both interior and exterior.
Makes me jealous of all the "Purty".....

Happy to read this one you remember from when you were a teenager.
Hey, Lou, not to be knit-picky, but at 04:34, you said, "You can see your hood release." That's not a hood release, sir, that's the parking brake release. On these '63 Fords, the hood release is that cool Ford emblem shield on the front grille that you grab and pull towards you to unlatch the hood. Too bad you missed that when describing the other cool details like the fuel filler door on the rear body panel, etc. Anyway, this is definitely a gem of a '60s factory high-performance car! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Carl V, When I'm around cars I mess some things up as I'm so excited, Thanks for the correction. Lou

Side oiler didn t come out until mid year 1965.
Beautiful! LOVE IT! Of course when you watch a Lou video you are going to learn something! I did not know about the slanted roofline coming out in 1963 1/2. I'm surprised the door panel was so simple. I wish he had not changed the dash to updated digital! Steering wheel was also updated. Man alive that engine was not only beautiful, but the sound was incredible! I forgot all about the updates! Love this video!!

Good day Lou,
One of my favourite Ford, not a bad angle no matter what angle you look at it.
Love the colour & that idle from factory cast iron headers what a treat.
Still haven’t seen one in Australia.
Recently got to see a genuine 1970 442 W30 Oldsmobile only 1 of 2 in Australia, & apparently the only person in a crowd of 100’s who knew a thing or 2 about it.
The owner was very impressed, now we are good friend with the promise of a drive in the near future. Thanks to you & your channel I kinda interview the owner Rohan like you talk & interview your guest.
Hope you & your family are all well.👍.

¡Excelente video, y modelo, Lou!

The engine sounds like it’s “spittin’ fire!” In the early sixties, a neighbour down the street had gotten a similar model. Although it was brand-new, it unfortunately had fallen on its right side off a “car carrier.” I remember seeing it in his garage with that side badly damaged. Once he did the body repairs, I’m sure it looked new again!
