I'll tell you a sad story. Around 1968 I was riding with my mom in her '57 Chrysler Saratoga. We saw a little sports car with huge tail fins and pulled over to talk to the owner. I told him I had never seen such a car and wanted to know what it was. He told me it was an Alpha Romeo. He found and old Cadillac in a junkyard, cut the fins off and welded them on to the Alpha. Even at the age of 14 years, I was horrified.
I keep seeing "buy super thanks". What does that mean exactly?? Does it mean "buy super 93 octane gasoline"?? Does it mean any other kind of "super"?? Asking for a friend.
As a Brit, a million miles from any car here. I just love this, absolutely beautiful in every way. Imagine driving this around in UK, and leaving people speechless everywhere you go, just fabulous!

I can tell you, at 55 years old, being raised in the midwest, you have absolutely no idea what it's like to grow up here. Even coming here and becoming a citizen later, there's no comparison. Knowing every night you go to bed and every morning you wake up, you were born in this country, and you're actually here, is a blessing that's nearly indescribable. And these cars are a tangible reminder of that experience.

I was born in May '57, when all 5 GM divisions were close to completion on the "crash re-do" of their '59 cars after it was determined (in the Summer of '56), the facelifted '58s would not work at all upon seeing the sleek and finned '57s from Chrysler. It was already too late to change the '58s, but there was time to re-do the '59s, which the designers finished in the nick of time.

When you think of iconic American cars, the 59 Caddys are instantly recognizable worldwide. That says something! This example is outstanding! Thx for the treat!
Hi, Lou! Well, here it is, the Granddaddy Caddy, the ultimate in motoring majesty! You and I both noticed how the cardinals just couldn't stop singing about this one! Thanks to you and Steve for taking us along on this opulent, outrageous black gold ride (and you'll need plenty of Texas tea)!
Cadillac essentially put every option imaginable on this stunning work of art. From the paint to the chrome, this vehicle simply drips with luxury. I must say, I really thought the engine would be mammoth, but surprisingly it seems almost petite when considering the size of this cruiser. Positively gorgeous. Those fins and lights make you prepare for “blast off”.

One of the true industrial icons of the 20th century. For many years the '59 Cadillacs were treated like the outrageous exemplification of mid-century American excess and bad taste - but today we admire them as amongst the most wonderful examples of American creativity and artistry. They Biarritz model was the top-of-the-line variant - and what a beautiful thing it is.

'Special Interest Autos', a branch of Hemmings, did an article on a white one of these a few decades ago and also said 99 bucket seat models were made. They were supposed to be less comfortable than the bench seat models, because they did not tilt, and sat abnormally close to the floor. This forced peoples' legs straight out in front. I've always wondered whether it was possible to replace the flimsy plastic back window with some form of glass one. Beautiful example.

I'm looking forward to driving that 61 around this summer. There's nothing that gets a car more attention than the fins and Cadillac did it every time.

Ahoy big bro Lou! WOW. First off-could you picture me knocked out 😵, sans floppy sneakers (blown off) and slung over one of those rear fins, man? My white tube socked stocking lightweight JV baseball jock calves 'n feet limply dangling? How's that for a JV Johnny branding, Lou? Then from the fin to over a guy's shoulder 🤣🤪. This Cadillac is outrageous and completely in your face. The oily black paint and top indeed make it look like the Grim Reaper's steed, but that just adds to it's awesomeness. As it "accelerated" it just went forward, like a somewhat cumbersome land barge, in no rush to go anywhere lol 😜, but happy to have folks stare and wave. A great piece of post War American history right there, Lou. Thanks big bro! JV Johnny ⚾⚾😵
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to have you aboard! We're keeping you inside the car as the fins are waxed and too slippery to hold onto. This one's a floater, so no KO hear, just smooth sailing :-) You're welcome, Lou

@loucostabile Indeed ! Spot on I have a 58 Austin Cambridge A55, and it's a grand car. It's just that there is something very special about US car design ( ers ) right from the beginning.
Another beauty from a world-class collection. Cars and their designs have certainly changed from America's Golden Age era of vehicles. What once were annual redesigns to get customers to constantly trade in their vehicles for a new model (likely still a manufacturer's goal), the emphasis now is to keep costs down and have a global platform for many models/crossovers. Of course safety/emissions standards also played a role. Some stunning designs at that time even for cars that were attainable. There are some beautiful cars today but mostly exotic sports cars that are priced accordingly. Would love to see some examples of the the 30's Caddy's mentioned in the vid. Thanks Steve for sharing your stellar collection and Lou for taking us along for the ride.

When you think of iconic American cars, the 59 Caddys are instantly recognizable worldwide. That says something! This example is outstanding! Thx for the treat!

Very cool Cadillac Lou! Another beauty.

Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, "Gotta love the Big Daddy Caddies" I agree :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Hi iswc27, "Well, here it is, the Granddaddy Caddy" Yes it is :-) Happy to share this "Tea Party" with you. You're welcome, Lou

Hi Russ, Happy to read you appreciate this "Gorgeous" car in "Liquid Black" :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and my pleasure sharing with you, Lou

All hail the Queen! You're welcome Jean-Pierre!
Another great episode, Lou. I was very young when cars of this era were on the streets in Brooklyn. Remember being dwarfed by the sheer size of these behemoths!
Hi Richard, You're right, this is a "behemoth" of a car :-) Thanks for sharing, Lou

Hi kiddycat17, Happy to read "It's one of my favorite automobiles of all time!!" :-) NICE! You're welcome, Lou
Happy to read "what a beautiful thing it is." :-) NICE!
A work of art, this car. And in pristine condition. Congratulations Steve.

Hi LoveIsAll, Thanks for sharing the details you remember from the article. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car, Lou
An amazing '59 Eldorado in triple-black! Thanks for sharing, Lou!

Absolutely stunning!
High praise.
This is truly a beautiful car. I have a 1965 Cadillac DeVille convertible and just recently bought a 1961 Cadillac DeVille convertible. That one has the fins but the 65 doesn't. I'm looking forward to driving that 61 around this summer. There's nothing that gets a car more attention than the fins and Cadillac did it every time.
Hi georl1, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read you have two fun Cadillacs. NICE!
This is the absolute high watermark of American excellence.
The zenith when exuberance was acceptable and encouraged.

@@loucostabile Yup....It takes up the room of TWO normal sized cars and should be permanantly placed in a bus or railroad museum!

@loucostabile new subscriber. Best wishes, and much success!
THE BAT 🦇 MOBILE

This car is '50s flamboyance perfected. Thanks, Steve and Lou

Hi Big Hank, Happy to share the Big Cadillac with you :-) Lou
It’s crazy that actually was a car. I remember as a 7 year old I saw one of these park up the street one Saturday morning. I just hovered around it for a while. The fins and taillights, they actually seem bigger now then back when I was 7.

Even though black is not favorite color of mine, this Eldorado Biarritz is one fine example of past American luxury. I can picture this Caddy in White Diamond Tricoat with a burgundy top (like mine). Thank you again Lou.
Happy to share this "fine example" with you :-) You're welcome Steven.
Lou, another great Cadillac video. The wings on the tips of the front fenders are Egyptian wings which were first used on the 1941 model. Steve's collection is out of this world! 1962 was the first year for Cadillac's dual master cylinder.

Indeed ! Spot on
I have a 58 Austin Cambridge A55, and it's a grand car. It's just that there is something very special about US car design ( ers ) right from the beginning.
The most beautiful car ever made in my opinion!
Beauty Winner! NICE!
