Hello Dennis, my old boss has a 67 fairlane xl500 convertible, 390 2 bbl - 4spd- power steering- dual exhaust , it's been fully restored to original , about 20yrs ago , still timeless beauty
I think all of us subscribers to Lou's channel would be bidding on this car if we had the means, and it was for sale! Hearing that 289 Windsor through the factory pipes takes me back!
What a rare find! I remember when these were new. They were radically different from my Dad's boxy 64 Fairlane, but after a while they "grow on you!". Thanks Lou for bringing us such rare and unusual cars from America's past!
Hi gojoe283, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this find, and glad to read it brings back memories too :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Wow Lou I just gave no words here I mean this is a outstanding piece of automotive history. I was just 8 years old when this car was produced. Man that Dennis has some outstanding and unique pieces of automotive history. There is just no way to find another car in this no mileage condition and being brand new yet. That had to be just a awesome time in the ride along. I bet it still smelled new yet. Dennis it is amazing to see your car collection and you never know what is next when it comes to seeing your cars. This car sure was sporty looking and I loved the color of the car too. I just cannot figure how people could give this car a thumbs down. Lou it is just amazing and thanks so much for sharing this!
Hi Steve, "I just gave no words here I mean this is a outstanding piece of automotive history" High praise :-) Good time in the ride along, and happy yo share it with you. Lou
Oh WOW most incredible find ever what a Time Capsule Denise and Lou you so made my day the original owner is right this car is worth a lot of money now. Thank you so very much. 708 miles time to trade it in Both of you guys so rock !
This is spectacular , that's how you go back in time , the car looks like it was stole from the past ,can't describe how awesome it could feel to own a car like that ...

I hope Lou truly appreciates getting a 4 mile ride in this incredible treasure. They just advanced the odometer a HUGE amount considering how few actual miles it has. Look at it this way... If the car would have had 50,000 miles on it, Lou would have gotten a 280 mile ride in comparison. The owner is a VERY generous man.
Hi S Android, I appreciate it, however the video is for you to enjoy. So please subscribe, watch the commercials (the ones you can, as that is how I get paid) and after you shared I rode comparably 280 miles, I feel I need to get out and stretch :-) Lou
Thanks Lou and Dennis. Lou, as you might have noticed today, I've been catching up on your videos that I've missed. Dennis sure has a wonderful car here, and to think of that low mileage. I've owned about one-hundred and twenty cars in my life. I love cars and I've always wanted to try out as many as I could. Most of my cars were crashers. But when I think back on those I've owned, my 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 coupe always comes to mind and was probably my favorite. It had the same powertrain as Dennis' car here. And probably the thing I like best about mine was that 289 with the cruise-o-matic trans. The 289 was velvety smooth, they had good pick-up and pairing it with the cruise-o-matic was a combination satisfying to just about everyone. Another thing was how much I enjoyed the sound of the factory exhaust system. It was a genuine Ford sound true of the 289 cars in the 1960's. Unfortunately, Dennis' car having a the hole in the muffler wasn't making the sound I'm talking about, no insult meant. I just wanted people to know that the sound wasn't authentically representative.
Another GEM, another favorite of mine, '66 Fairlane, SPECTACULAR car! WOW! Such a VALUABLE piece of investment. Everything is Original. BEAUTIFUL and CLEAN engine hub. Love this car.
All I’d like to add is Dennis, the cars owner, is one generous soul, taking us all for a ride in his 704 (now 708) Ford. Think I’m kidding? Brother bought a 69 GTO in the late 80’s and spent 2 years making it perfect. A 1976 Nova ran the stop sign slamming into his fender. That’s why cars like this shouldn’t be on the streets. Thx Lou!
As soon as I saw this Fairlane arriving and I saw the wet asphalt, before we even knew the low mileage I thought...oh no, this is being driven on wet roads. This car is a gem and I hope Dennis lives close by so his car remains pristine underneath. The prevalence of Japanese cars from the early 70's which had far better quality control and paint runs became a thing of the past. Amazing to be awarded judging points because it had a paint run from the factory. This is a beautiful piece of mid 60's auto history and it goes to what you do Lou as a creator of a classic car archive. In Australia where I am, the Fairlane was only available as a Custom or the 'upmarket' 500. No XL's over here! Australia in the mid 60's only had an extremely limited range of models from the US 'Big Three' before the Japanese car invasion really got going and Fairlane was always the upper class Ford and if you had a Fairlane, you had really made it to your station in life. What an excellent example of probably the best '66 Fairlane in the US.
Great post, but I’ll debate you on Japanese car quality in the late ‘60’s and very early ‘70’s. They were great mechanically, almost bulletproof, but their bodies rusted, and interior plastics exuded a foul smell and got brittle and cracked in very little time. But Detroit didn’t learn, got lazy and just made behemoths, while the Japanese got even better. By the early ‘80’s most of the Japanese brands were indeed more robust!
I quit driving my Mustang except for a few very local car shows when it turned over 12K miles! Five years later it still only has 12,500 miles. However only 708 miles on this Fairlane that is amazing! It takes a lot of self control to not drive your prize possession at least a little bit!
Hi kickit59, I'm glad I had my camera for this car, because you have to see it to believe it :-) Glad to read you're a great Care Taker for your Mustang, Lou
My favorite color in 1966. My Mustang was that color. My Fairlane XL Conv. was light blue with blue interior but very worn when I got it and I enjoyed it for one summer before selling it. Great car!
Amazing how similar were the appearances of the Fairlane and Galaxie. And when you look at it from the side, you can tell that the “midsize” of ‘66 would easily be considered full size today. What an absolute diamond of a car. 👍
Hi soyounoat, I was so happy when Dennis shared we can take it for a ride to share with you the Viewer...it was quite the joy filled moment, and I'm happy we can share it. You're welcome, Lou
Even if someone doesnt like this particular care - they would have to be in awe of it because its all as it was from the factory. That in itself is super impressive! I like it myself, but just sayin'. Three Thumbs Up for this piece of mobile history! Thanx again, Lou! Ya did it again - bringing us a diamond!

@@loucostabile :Wow,well done! Its 1966 all over again! What an absolute gem of an original survivor. I never thought I'd ever see a car like this. Ah the good old days. Lou those were the days when an American car was something gr8. Makes you wonder what happened to good old American ingenuity, when Detroit was king and aids meant assistance. Have a gr8 God bless day Lou and owner.
Simply amazing! From such a different (and I would say better) time. I love the trunk of treats. Thanks for the great trip back in time, Lou - a great video as always.
All I can say is “wow”. If I hadn’t seen it I wouldn’t have believed it. The amazing part is that the original owner bought the “right” car. I have never seen anything like this, but usually it’s a four door with a six cylinder engine.
Great car story Lou. This is like a few years back where there was a Apache pick up that remained unsold from the dealership in Nebraska. It had less than 20 miles
… This one is a beauty. I love that 289. It is so cool. 704 original miles that’s crazy. I was just going to Passthrough to leave you a thumbs up… But decided to watch this great car. I didn’t think it was going to be as cool as it is. See you on your next one. I won’t forget the thumbs up.👍
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou. I actually pulled out the 289 engine and transmission in my Fairlane and put in a big block 351cleveland engine and C6 transmission. Believe it or not everything fit in perfectly with no altercations whatsoever. Talk about having twice as much power as before with the 289 engine , I know the 289 engine was just not enough to power this car properly. But I haven't seen a convertible Fairlane in decades now.
Amazing ‘66 Fairlane 500XL convertible in remarkable new condition. Reminds me of a hardtop GTA 390 one of our neighbors owned back then. The original tires are actually BF Goodrich Silvertown (not “Silverstones”).

Truly breath-taking! It's amazing it's survived all these years without even the slightest transport mishap. Actually owning an automobile like this is quite a burden. The second owner found that out. Even on that short drive, one rock on the windshield or something from a tree hitting the top or hood would leave the owner in tears. It's good Dennis isn't afraid to drive it a bit. Many would drain all the fluids and just roll it in and out of tailors.
OH MAN was that ever special! Like a lot my contemporaries who grew up in the 60's I was wistful and slack jawed watching this video. I don't think I blinked once! Best video yet Lou. Cheers.
If there was a heart button I would click it. What a fabulous car. A far cry from my friend's in high school that got cut up and a 429 transplanted. ;) I thought the Coronet survivor was a treat. This is better in my opinion. And what a treat it must have been to ride in it even if for only four miles. I'm so glad there are people out there that have the self control to preserve these irreplacable beauties. I do not have that same self control. I would most likely want to drive them as much as possible. Thanks for sharing another great piece from Dennis' collection.

Woww! Last time I saw a 1966 ragtop Fairlane500XL was in 1973 when I was a kid... One of my father's friend's car, and that one was nowhere near stock like this one is! That one was that deep aqua blue (like the 66 T-Bird was), with posi, ladder bars, jacked up high in the back, the 289 heavily modified, originally from a Mustang (I think the 4 speed as well), Cragar S/S mags... A convertible monster!
Wow! Gorgeous! The fact that it’s totally un-molested and in such pristine condition is incredible. I’m also a ‘66 model year, and not holding up nearly as well 😆
Hi, Lou! Hmm...only 708 miles...So...obviously it's never been to my neck of the woods! Not very much wind in the hair, either! LOL! Well, thanks again to you and Dennis for bringing us along for another awesome ride, and I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Another great video Lou love watching your channel my grandpa was a Ford guy he was one of those people that got a brand new car every 3 or 3 years I know that he had a 62 Fairlane and and 65 and I believe a 67 but I'm sure that they all had way more miles on them than this one does when he traded them in for new ones.
The preservation of these low mileage cars are so important to the history of the automobile. They also give restorers a reference to see how the cars came from the factory. It really boggles the mind to think how a car 54 years old could have 708 miles on it. Lou, do you feel guilty putting 4 miles on it during your ride? Thx again Lou!
Hi Brady Dog, Happy to read you see the historical value of this car. I felt great and honored to be able to ride and put a few miles on this one to share with you, Lou
Wow, what a car, Lou! Incredible! Brings back memories of my other neighbor up the street here from Mom’s residence. This car is beyond incredible. Thanks for sharing another glorious video, Lou. Happy Thanksgiving to you and family.
Goodday Lou, You managed to track down a rare unicorn. You were not kidding about this amazing Fairlane 500 XL. Beautiful lines traditional hardtop lines. Great stuff, Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Awesome video Lou, I had a family member with one in yellow and black, may have mentioned it in a previous video 🙃,one thing I remember about his, the day he stopped by to show it off,,I noticed as he stopped in the driveway the brake lights were not working 😕, I mentioned it to him and he said "it's brand new "they work and after a further look he said, dang already!!! Ended up being the switch and it had a problem with the brake lights all the time 🤪crazy to see another not working with such low mileage, thanks for sharing and as always you know "Howdy from Texas "!!
Hi Greg from TX, Hmmm, must be a common problem with the brake lights not working well. Wonder if it's still under warranty based on the mileage :-) Lou
A fantastic Ford and how rare? Looks beautiful with the dark red contrasted with the white convertable top. A 390 would have been nice but a 1966 289 has plenty of power and get nice gas mileage as well. I wish I had a 66 Fairlane 500XL in my garage, dream on.
Great car Lou. You've really out done yourself. Keep finding these awesome cars of yesterday. This is why I don't like cars that are over restored . Better than factory paint and even body panel alignment. This is the way these cars were. Not perfect .
my oldest brother had one years ago, painted a copper color w/black top, near mint condition. but that was a loooong time ago! this one is very rare inded
Wow, thanks Dennis & Lou...Awesome preservations!! Heard there also was some running changes in 66 Fords too. My 1966 GALAXIE 500XL, (4 SPD/ Deluxe/ps/Pb/352 /4BBL (boo!), in BURGANDY : also, had kind of funny & far from perfect paint by 1968..... Anyways, always liked the Ford Key, and my *Hazard Flasher Switch was in GLOVE BOX( I did see NOT where DENNIS’s was put.... Just an awesome survivor: though seems a little RISKY with old tires, Brake DRUMS ,Lines/ Fluid, TRANNY, exhaust leaky, TO DRIVE :: ?? I had to really upgrade my (with remembering LOW MILES: ), 66 GALAXIE: tires/Shocks/ special METALLIC ( did not have the Disc) brakes(( which kind of hard to find and fit, with Safety, )) & RADIATOR COOLANT recovery System etc,.....”DENNIS “Mock, EAST HELENA, MT.........
I know many people think he should be having a great time driving it on weekends, but when you own a time capsule the value is in its originality. Like the owner said if he got a dent it would just ruin the reason it's so rare.

👍🏻 Thanks Lou, that was like being in a time machine. It's amazing how everything stayed in pristine condition, was it in a temperature/humidity controlled garage?
@@loucostabile ... you are welcome, I'm a BLUE OVAL fan from way back. This GT was RED, BLACK interior, and buckets. My FAVORITE CAR. Raced on NASCAR tracks.❤🚘🚦🚘🇨🇦🏁🏁
@@ericbryant5069 a friend during high school had that exact Fairlane you describe red/black 390 (circa 74-76) I believe the front end was lifted an inch or 2 that gave it the perfect aggressive stance, it was always kept clean in mint cond.

Holy cow Lou ! That car is 54 yrs old ! With 708 miles . All 100% original down to the floor mats ! Like it was made and ordered yesterday! Unbelievable
Had the 2 door 66 galaixe big block. Good rig for dates☺️😘😁🤗 Large seat🤩 Keep them coming Lou Mine left me with 42,000 But I did have to add seat covers 😭
Hi Dan, This one makes you glad you have a video camera, because if I told people what I seen, they would not believe it. My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Wow, that is unbelievable. 708 miles over 64 years is less than a mile a month. Not sure how big the tank is on that Fairlane, but that's at most 3 gas fill ups in its entire life. Surely the fuel system must have required some purging over its life?
That is amazing for sure!! I wonder why the original owner thought it would be collectable? The 66 Fairlane's were thought to be beautiful when they came out. Especially when compared to the 65's. But few thought they would be collector items. Anyway, rhetorical question, but it is sure collectable now!!
Hi Jeff, Happy to share this episode with you. Great excitement taking a car out with this low mileage and be able to share a few "new" miles with you. You're welcome, Lou

a friend of mine had a 1966 ford convertible with the 427 engine,it was a rocket on the street but he never raced it at the track.the guy he bought it from did race it at the track but only in pure stock [no slicks and exhaust closed.]he won his class every week but did not do good against real race cars at the track.i do not know what happened to that car and i lost track of my friend.it would be worth a fortune today. jim
I remember seeing brand new cars from that era with runs in the paint from the factory on the rocker panels all the time. Has the car ever been waxed ?
Wow. This one hits my heart. My first car was a ‘67 Fairlane, 2-dr hardtop, the same body style as this. Mine was a hand me down from my Dad, as I got a full scholarship to college, so he gave me the Fairlane when he bought a new ‘70 Ford LTD. Unfortunately, while mine looked great as a hardtop in beautiful Clearwater Aqua, it only had the 200 cid 6-banger (Dad was on an economy kick in ‘67 as he had just put my older brother through college). The car LOOKED sleek and fast, but alas, with the anemic 6-cyl, it wasn’t. But hey, it got me to college and with the low power probably kept me from doing something really stupid behind the wheel! 😂
Interesting for the person who wants a Trailer Queen to look at. At the risk of adding a few miles it really would be a good thing to get it on the highway a few times a year. The top should be raised and lowered once in awhile too otherwise the hydraulics will dry out and leak. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t need wheel and master cylinder rebuilding rear seals etc. The tires and convertible top are probably hard as a rock. Nice car but only for the right owner.
who are the 7 that dis liked this, 708 miles absolutly amazing! best ever, good work lou!

Hi Brian SD, Happy to share this LOW mileage car & a ride with you :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi Roy, Happy to share this "time traveler" with you :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
All I can say is “wow”. If I hadn’t seen it I wouldn’t have believed it. The amazing part is that the original owner bought the “right” car. I have never seen anything like this, but usually it’s a four door with a six cylinder engine.
Hi Dave, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Great car story Lou. This is like a few years back where there was a Apache pick up that remained unsold from the dealership in Nebraska. It had less than 20 miles
Hi Vincent, Happy to read you enjoy this story :-) Cool story on the pickup too. Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
… This one is a beauty. I love that 289. It is so cool. 704 original miles that’s crazy.
I was just going to Passthrough to leave you a thumbs up… But decided to watch this great car. I didn’t think it was going to be as cool as it is. See you on your next one. I won’t forget the thumbs up.👍
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read you enjoy this episode, Lou
Thanks for showing this car. I actually had a 1967 Fairlane convertible for a while. I wish I had it today.
Hi Donald Donald, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Even the exhaust manifolds have almost no rust on them!! What a time capsule!
You're right :-)
Amazing ‘66 Fairlane 500XL convertible in remarkable new condition.

Hi Joseph, High praise :-) Happy to share this one with you, Lou
OH MAN was that ever special! Like a lot my contemporaries who grew up in the 60's I was wistful and slack jawed watching this video. I don't think I blinked once! Best video yet Lou. Cheers.

@@loucostabile It really was a blast seeing a "time machine" vehicle. Good job Lou!

Hi Crazcompart, Happy to receive a "Woww!" from you :-) Glad to read this one brings back good memories for you, Lou
Wow! Gorgeous!
The fact that it’s totally un-molested and in such pristine condition is incredible. I’m also a ‘66 model year, and not holding up nearly as well 😆
Hi mercoid, Happy to read you and this car share the same birth year. Glad to receive a "Wow!" from you on this car, Lou
Did you guys say, 750 miles, Original miles, WOW! AMAZING! The car was only driven a block away from the garage!
Hi Vern 708 original miles. You're right, AMAZING! Lou

I know many people think he should be having a great time driving it on weekends, but when you own a time capsule the value is in its originality. Like the owner said if he got a dent it would just ruin the reason it's so rare.

708 miles over 64 years is less than a mile a month.
Not sure how big the tank is on that Fairlane, but that's at most 3 gas fill ups in its entire life. Surely the fuel system must have required some purging over its life?

Hey Dennis, the 289 a solid lifter motor or hydraulic lifter motor , just googled the hipo was solid lifter motor
Hey John, Thank you for sharing your research, Lou
Ahhh, good memories :-)
Interesting for the person who wants a Trailer Queen to look at. At the risk of adding a few miles it really would be a good thing to get it on the highway a few times a year. The top should be raised and lowered once in awhile too otherwise the hydraulics will dry out and leak. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t need wheel and master cylinder rebuilding rear seals etc. The tires and convertible top are probably hard as a rock. Nice car but only for the right owner.
