No? Gus goes to kill Hector just before the nursing home bombing takes out the two of them along with Tyrus. They make it very clear Gus had a quick and reliable method to eliminate the Salamancas, in this case with the syringe filled with whatever that would have killed him, but the whole point is to highlight how Gus was keeping Hector alive past the point of self-preservation because he was too focused on exacting things his way. The series is pretty consistent about showing where big characters have outs, buyouts, ex-partners offering to pay for cancer treatments/better job offer, Gus having the option to work with Gale’s with and not Walter’s from the beginning to keep things predictable, it’s all there and part of the greatness of the show to highlight how these characters aren’t always in a be-all end-all situation, they have moments where they can either tap out from their life of crime or have things be resolved at a compromise to what they were originally after, and not taking those chances represents most of their regretful fates.
