Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

@@Mouseproject6-3 with this in mind, I think it’s powerful as all hell that the writers allowed Nacho to be the one that pulls the trigger on himself. He was above all of them in terms of morality, and importance. Having his death be at anyone else’s hands in that scene, even mike, would have been a dishonor to his character. Nacho is brilliant. He plays it so well that Gus isnt incriminated in any way. Plays off their suspicions like a joke, tells everyone he did everything out of pure spite, redirects Hector's hatred from Gus to himself, and reminds everyone that Gus saved Hector's life. The cherry on top was him attempting to kill Bolsa to incriminate himself evern further. Then he goes out on his own terms so that Hector won't get the satisfaction of torturing him

The way Mike is visibly affected by nachos inevitable death was awe inducing. Michaels inept emotional attachment to those that are in the game but are still decent human beings is unparalleled. He cared about Ignacio the way he does Jesse in the BB series because Ignacio carried himself the same way Jesse did. Flawed but selfless. Ignacio cared immensely about his family and the betterment of his name and valor much more than he showed an interest in the fruits of being a criminal. That being said, Ignacio and jesse are still two very different characters but share similar morals and personal traits which is so damn cool.

Since not even Mike dared to help him escape death i think it's heavily implied that going against Don Eladio's cartel wasn't the main problem here, but rather waging a one-man war against the timeline already established by our lord and saviour Vince Gilligan and, honestly, who can blame the guy for looking so desperate against an adversary like that?

I was thinking about how sad it was that Nacho was going to die to protect Gus because of what he did when he was forced to work for Gus. Because he said "I put you in that chair!", I only then remembered that detail and realised how badass Nacho's death actually was. "YOU THINK OF ME!". Such a great line.

  • @pigriderstarwatcher9217

The moment after Nacho shot himself, at 3:36, you can see a nearly intangible change in Gus’ expression. This was unexpected for him, not the servant he once treated as a dog that should be restrained. Nacho died like a man on his own terms, and no longer had to beg anyone. Gus was shocked but he needed to hide it still.
In addition, at 4:21, Gus was walking firmly but his face was serious, dignified, and perhaps… sad, compared to Victor and Tyrus who can’t hide their smirks anymore. This is a great characterization of Gus’ arc: he realized that he mistreated Nacho and now Nacho’s death earned his respect. I guess these two scenes may explain why Gus had a place of respect for Jesse once he realized Jesse’s potential (since Jesse is a second Nacho in a way), and why he did a monologue similar to Nacho’s in his later confrontation with Lalo.

I agree. Even though he'd seen Nacho as nothing more than a tool, Gus couldn't help but acknowledge that Nacho would've successfully killed Hector if he hadn't revived him long enough for the paramedics to arrive. I think after Nacho had died everyone but Hector felt at least some kind of sadness about it, in a way. Earlier in the series Nacho had risked life and limb in assisting the Twins, even with a bullet wound, which would no doubt earn the respects of most people. And respect is valued highly in the Salamanca Family. I couldn't help but see them feel a little betrayed as he voiced his true feelings about the Salamancas, almost hurt. Maybe even feeling as though it was a shame that he died as they used to think highly of him.
Gus seemed shaken by Nacho in this scene, especially since he probably though Nacho would go back on his word and sell him out. But as he voiced his sheer contempt it looked like Gus found a kindred spirit in Nacho, bearing the same hatred for that family. Maybe even some sympathy as he walked away.
Mike was obviously saddened, he cared for Nacho and even vouched he leave the crime world without consequence. He knew what was coming, and quietly urged Nacho to do what had to be done. Almost cried afterwards. He might've saw a bit of Nacho in Jesse later on.

Gus was relieved that this loose end was finally tied up, the Salamancas had no more respect for him after he betrayed them and got Lalo "killed". Gus knew that Nacho was not going to sell him but was relieved nevertheless that he didn't do so. Getting his father safe and far from all this madness was ultimately what led Nacho to take that bullet in his head and clear Gustavo so he could keep his word of leaving his father alone.
